summer wish
poem number one for napowrimo
sometimes i let myself drown in the hazel
of your beautiful eyes and smile because
it’s summer when we run through bursts
of laughter and drops of golden sun,
when you twirl me around in your arms
and whisper clandestinely into my ear like
dandelion feathers drifting in the wind—
we’re supposed to make a secret wish
on every one but there are too many
so all i wish is for you to be by my side,
your hand warm in mine, squeezing tightly
because you’re afraid of fading and so am i,
but we feel safer when we’re pressed
against each other breathing soft and quiet
to the sweet scent of honey and dew, sitting
back to back with fragile fingers clasped
and i wonder what it feels like to fall in love
