Ulzzang ▬ Park Sora
Gallery ▬ 1 2 3 4 5 )

Backup ▬ Lee So-Ah
Height ▬ 170 cm
Weight ▬ 66 kg
Style ▬
Haneul tends to favor a casual style.  Since she does most of her work at home, comfortable clothes tend to be her typical style, pajamas of every color of the rainbow.  She's partial to tank tops at home as well.  When she goes out, she likes to be business-casual.  A nice top, usually tastefully designed and soft material, and a comfortable pair of slacks or a knee lenght skirt.  She has a soft spot for pumps, has a small collection breeding in her closet.
Appearance ▬
Haneul keeps her hair down when she's at home, usually only brushed in the morning to work out the bed-head.  When she goes out she'll either put it into a tight bun, or make sure it's perfectly straight.  As it's naturally a touch frizzy, she refuses to be seen in public like that.  She has a tatoo of a star on her left ankle she got at sixteen.  Haneul tends to use little make up, but has a penchant for red lipstick.

The Mind »

If there was one word to describe Kwon Haneul it would be: confident. Haneul has, since a very young age, been confident in her ability to get what she want out of life. She's not one to settle for any less than her aspirations to the letter. She's strong-willed and loud, and doesn't take crap from anyone. One would say she's confident to the point of being full of herself. She has a hard time relating to others, and being friends with her is difficult for most people. She's not one to be shy about what she thinks; her opinion matters whether you want to hear it or not. It's how she shows she cares, but it can be off-putting; especially with her penchant for blunt, to the point language. It causes her to appear insensitive.

She's a hopeless romantic deep down inside. She believes Mister Right will bump into her in the middle of a coffee shop and sweep her off her feet and won't accept less. To Haneul her vision of reality is law, and she has an absolute desire to be in complete control of her destiny. When she's taken out of control she panics and doesn't know how to deal with it. Luckily for her, she's never had her control too challenged yet in her life. She's a natural leader, and charismatic; if people can survive her abrasive bluntness, they're compelled to follow her.

She's independent and self-sufficient, and quite honestly doesn't like relying on others for anything.  It comes with her boundless confidence in herself.  She is sufficient to solve any problem that comes her way, no matter what that problem is.  She's meticulously organized and on top of every deadline.  "Ten steps ahead" is a motto of hers.  Part of the draw of screenwriting, for her, is creating a fictional universe in which she has absolute dominion.  Deep down inside, despite disacknowledging it, she realizes reality is out of her control and the thought actually terrifies her.  She covers it up with sheer willpower and force to make reality obey her.

As such, this leads to misfortunes in love.  Haneul finds it dificult to allow herself into the vulnderable state relationships require.  For this reason, her romantic life has been a pitiful failure since her first date at fifteen.  She's never held down a boyfriend for more than a month, usually her controlling attitude drives men away.  With the end of her twenty-fifth year drawing to a close, she's starting to hear the hum of her biological clock telling her she'll never find anyone.

The History »

Background ▬ Haneul was born seven months after her parents got married, much to the shock and dismay of both families.  But her parents were progressive enough to know that they were going to be together forever when they concieved her, and only actually got married to satisfy familial pressure and for the legal rights afforded to married couples.  Ilsung and Sohee tried very hard to instill the value of love before social requirements in their house.  They met overseas, both spending a semester abroad in different (but nearby) colleges in Venice; and as such had more Western ideals than their peers.  Sohee being older than her husband actually took on a more dominant role in the marriage, instilling her values of controlling her own destiny into her impressionable daughter.

Her parents instilled one unintentioned dream on their daughter.  Their fairytale meeting, two Korean students in one of the most romantic cities in Europe coincidentily running into each other in Piazza San Marco, gave her high expectations for her own romantic future.  Coupled with her lessons on love, she came to believe in a grandiose notion of what her future love life would be.  It caused to her to miss many people around her, specifically her childhood best friend Kim Jongdae.  Haneul, Jongdae, and Woo Sangsoo all grew up together in the same apartment complex, and played together in the lush park up the block.  Being small children, they had the whole area covered and discovered a secluded area with a small brook; which became an important spot for the trio.

Haneul had a fairly unnoteworthy academic career; recieving good marks and making it into college breezily, but not remarkably.  She was notorious around campus as being a prude when it came to the opposite , no one satisifying her intense prerequisites.  Though she was inseparable from Jongdae throughout most of high school.  They'd even promised to be each other's "back-up" if they couldn't find anyone better.  Haneul wasn't quite sure why she accepted it, since it didn't mesh with her future, but she couldn't say no to him.  They ended up being accepted to different colleges and their contact became relegated to e-mails as their busy lives and the amount of Seoul between them kept them from meeting in person.

She remained close with Sangsoo, and became even closer as friends after walking in on him and her brother Daesung in the middle of a particularly intimate moment.  Haneul and Daesung are close, the between them made Haneul a more protective big sister than a teaser, seeing Daesung as a child more than anything, but supportive and happy for him.  She supported his elopement with Sangsoo at 18 despite initial protests from their parents.  They eventually came around, and made a dramatic appearance at the wedding at the last second to give their blessings.

She faced an unnatural devestation when she recieved the invitation to Jongdae's wedding after not getting an e-mail from him in three months.  It was at that moment when she realized exactly why she accepted Jongdae's proposal in the park all those years ago: because she was in love with him and too blinded by her own desires to see it.  She almost vowed to not respond to the invite; to quash her feelings because they didn't coincide with her preconcieved notion of the future.

And then she decided to grab the bull by the horns and take control of her future; and Jongdae's.  She was going to win her love back, and so help whoever stands in her way.

Lifestyle ▬  Haneul's comfortably middle class in every regard.  She makes enough to have some loose cash as a cushion, but not enough to have any sort of lavish lifestyle.  Most of her paycheck comes from shooting off "local color" columns to the weekly paper and her parents, but she gets sizable paychecks when TV companies decide to buy her scripts.  Haneul is a screenwriter, and proud of it, with a dream to someday write a critically acclaimed drama or film.  She did some independent films in college that got some rave reviews in the indie sphere, but never really caught on outside her campus. She lives in a two-bedroom two-bath apartment in a relatively cheap distrct of Seoul above a Paranormal Research Agency.  It suits her well, and there's a grocer a few blocks up the road where she buys her basic needs.  Her comfort comes from knowing that this lifestyle is only for now, and someday she'll be living in a mansion with money to spare.  She lives with her childhood friend Sangsoo and her younger brother, Daesung.

The Love »

Love Interest ▬ Kim Jongdae
Backup ▬
 Do Kyungsoo

Age ▬ 26
Occupation ▬ Bank Teller

Personality ▬ If there was one word to describe Kim Jongdae it would be reserved.  He's an incredibly careful, diligent man who carefully thinks out what he wants and what decisions he makes.  He's not one to take too many risks.  Jongdae tends to make whatever life throws at him a happiness; he's an absolute pro at finding silver-linings.  He's confident in one thing: that things will work out, and that everything has it's purpose.  He doesn't feel like he needs to much dominion over his life, setting him at odds with Haneul.  But this never interefered with their friendship.  He's a profoundly compassionate person, and tends to be a bastion of mercy and forgiveness to anyone who wrongs him.  He doesn't hold grudges. He's got a bit of a sneaky side, and appreciates a good joke at someone else's expense provided no one gets hurt... much.

He tends to belittle himself regularly, he never thinks he's quite good enough for anyone and deals with some feelings of self-loathing he hides from everyone.  He went through some spells of depression that still pop up every now and then, simply because the one he loved never once looked at him.  When Jongdae falls in love, it's hard and passionate; denial of that love is like a denial of air or water.  But his biggest problem is he isn't capable of working up the confidence to confess to his first love, Haneul.  So when his passions begin to cool for her, and he begins to fall for Soonkyu he's not going to let her slip away.  He doesn't betray his mentality of careful dilligence, but allows for calculated risks that draw the two together.  With this, he thinks, he'll truly find the bliss he knows life has in store for him.

Relationship ▬ Haneul and Jongdae were inseparable since they were toddlers.  Their families moved into the building at the same time, and thus, they were quickly introduced for play dates, which also included the slightly younger Sangsoo from the floor above them.  The two remained incredilby close throughout their education and served on the student council as joint-representatives from their class.  When they were sixteen, Jongdae almost confessed his feelings for her at their special place in the park, but didn't have the confidence to go through with it for fear of being rejected.  Instead, he opted to pose it to her this way: "If we're both alone done the road, say our thirties, why don't we just get married?"  To his surprise, Haneul chuckled and agreed.

"I suppose being stuck with you wouldn't be the worst future."

Jongdae always had feelings for Haneul, for as long as it was capable for a boy to have feelings for a girl.  Haneul, however, only regarded him as an incredibly close friend.  Their meeting wasn't romantic enough for her, and he knew that because she told him exactly what she wanted and expected out of life.  As they got into college the pair grew distant, though still kept in touch through phone calls at first, but gradually slipping into e-mail communication.  Jongdae actively tried to lessen their contact as an attempt to cool feelings that would never be fufilled.

First Meeting ▬ It was the summer of 1992, the two met on a playdate arranged by their parents.  They took to each other instantly, spending a rousing afternoon in the sandbox building sand castles that Sangsoo would stomp down so they could redo them.  It was an instant bond forged by fate between the trio, and specifically, between Jongdae and Haneul who spent nearly everyday together from that point onward.  This casual, childhood first meeting is what made Haneul believe she couldn't have feelings for Jongdae: it's simply not romanic enough.

The Ending ▬ Haneul ends up making a huge scene at the rehersal dinner the night before Jongdae and Soonkyu's wedding.  After Sangsoo gave a dry-run of his speech, she was overwhelmed.  She couldn't take how happy her love and his fiancée looked.  She ripped the microphone from him and spilled her guts onto the floor.  Immediatley embarrased, she bolted, and didn't stop running until she reached the spot in the park the trio would escape to as children.  Despite the cold, November air she stays until she's surprised by Jongdae, who followed her.  Haneul thinks she won, and this will be the dramatic confession she's been waiting for.  But then it's not.  Jongdae is instead furious with her, for hurting his fiancée, for hurting him all these years for ignoring his obvious affections, for waiting for the night before his wedding to say anything.

"There was a time I would have jumped willingly into your arms, Star, but you know, there comes a time when it's too late.  Now's that time."

The Wedding ▬ Jongdae and Soonkyu's wedding is a small, intimate affair due to the small size of both their families. They only invite their closest friends, bringing in a wedding party that totals about 30 people.  They rent a small chapel on the outskirts of Seoul and have the reception at a Holiday Inn down the road.  It's not about the extravagence to them, it's about the simple.  Jongdae wears a smiple suit, without a tie, and Soonkyu wears a simple white dress with ruffled short sleeves.  They do a cupcake tower in lieu of a cake, and Soonkyu carries a single white rose instead of a full boquet.

The Vow »

The Fiancée ▬ Lee Soonkyu
Age ▬ 24
Occupation ▬ Motivational Speaker
Personality ▬ Soonkyu is a sweet, slightly pudgy girl who believes firmly in the power of positive energy.  She gets great enjoyment out of thie simple things, and longs for an uncomplicated life.  She's not as strong as she wishes she could be, and tends to be cut deep by words.  She struggled in high school with bulemia, but has recovered and now uses her experiences in her motivational tours.  It's an everyday struggle, she says, but after she met Jongdae it's gotten even easier to put that past into the past.  She generally has a belief that people are all, at their core, good, but isn't quick to trust.  Soonkyu's a strong emoter, and wears her heart visibly on her sleeve.
