Let's Take a Look Under the Hood

Personality: Haneul is an insecure girl hiding behind a confident facade. It all started back when she was the little awkward girl who always sat by herself in the orphanage. Although she is just naturally unsocial, the people who bullied/isolated her as a kid caused her to change as she grew up.

Haneul is the kind of girl who 'sees the cup half-empty' and often drives people away with her negativity. Usually, just the seemingly-permanent frown on her face discourages people from approaching her. But Haneul does try her best in everything-you could say that she thinks negatively so that it feels better if she succeeds. However, for this same reason, when Haneul falls, she falls hard and has a hard time getting back on her feet. She hides disappointment with anger and frustration as a habit now. And although she's trained herself to brush off other peoples' opinions, sometimes the pressure that she puts on herself is just as bad. Plus, there will always be that small hidden part of her that just can't help but care about what others think. She hates showing her weak, vulnerable side to the public, so she displays a tough, brusque persona instead. A surprising thing, though, is that Haneul values relationships more than you may think. She doesn't open up easily, yet even the smallest act of kindness makes her feel happy. But she's also the kind of person who doesn't like making the first move, so it takes a lot of effort for the other person to put into a relationship with Haneul before she begins warming up to them.

It's close to a miracle to get a sincere-sounding apology from Haneul. She really hates admitting it out loud when she's wrong while in her mind she feels completely guilty. Only her close friends can tell that she really means it. Another important thing to Haneul is looking good. Yes, she knows it's shallow, but Haneul likes it when people sneak glances at her whenever she walks by. She's very insecure, so she values her pretty face. This is why she dresses in a way that Seunghyun disapproves of; but even he can't tell her what she can and can't do. She's a rather independent woman, often getting too embarrassed to ask people for help with something. Just approaching strangers in general makes her a little anxious. Being a lone wolf, Haneul is also a bit selfish and gives off the impression that she cares only about herself. She hates doing things like sharing food or letting other people play their music in the car. But she's giving and generous when it counts; people only judge her when she's selfish about petty things.

Background: Haneul was born to a couple that didn't have a stable salary-they were both students. Hana, a high school senior on her way to college, was determined to keep her baby although she was under 18 years old when she got pregnant. Minjun, Haneul's father, was twenty-one at the time. In order to avoid getting in trouble with the law for getting a minor pregnant, he kept Hana safe in his parents' home (where they were staying due to their lack of money) for the duration of her pregnancy. He was working odd jobs and still attending college while Hana was emotionally abused by her in-laws at home and unable to go to school. Her parents were overseas and she couldn't bear to tell them.

After Haneul was born, Hana was excited to live life freely again. But she was only met with more judgement and criticism. Even the fact that the couple had moved into their own apartment didn't help much. Hana couldn't focus on the school work, she watched her husband take numerous odd jobs, her in-laws hated her and wouldn't even help them out financially, and she was taking care of Haneul all by herself 24/7. The stress proved to be too much for her and she broke, ending her own life. An eight-month-old Haneul was left motherless with an overworked, unprepared father. At his wife's funeral, Minjun was scolded by Hana's parents for not taking care of their daughter and ruining her life. They also blamed him for not letting them know about this sooner when Hana herself had begged him not to tell them.

For a while he tried to raise Haneul on his own, later deciding that an orphanage was the best option for her. But he was wrong; Haneul was the awkward, 'nobody' kid at the orphanage. All of the sweet, smart girls that befriended her were adopted, but Haneul wasn't either of those things and no couples wanted her. The meaner kids at the orphanage isolated her. To deal with her loneliness, Haneul became a lone wolf instead of an outcast. And so she resolved to start a new life outside of the orphanage once she legally turned 18.

How did you get involved: Not able to wait any longer, Haneul ran away from her orphanage when she was 17, and with only her father's old address and some money to help her, she set off to find him. Luckily, he had only moved once, so finding him wasn't difficult. But when she found him, she was shocked to come face-to-face with a boy, who she later learned was Minjun's stepson, Choi Dongwook. Her father had gotten remarried. Haneul finally found out what had happened to her mother and, enraged at her father for marrying another woman with a son who he could now take care of, she cursed him out and ran out the door. What she didn't notice was that her new 'step-brother' had followed her out. He offered to take her somewhere that would make her forget her troubles-and when she didn't listen, he grabbed her hand and practically dragged her there himself. That was Haneul's first time in the underground racing scene, and she absolutely loved it. Although she lied to look disinterested, Dongwook had a feeling that she was fibbing and introduced her to Seunghyun. They asked her a few things and when they found out that she was planning on returning to the orphanage until she turned 18, they offered her a place to stay. She learned about cars and racing, and when her step brother decided to go clean, Haneul was obviously the best candidate to take his place in the team.

Where do Your Loyalties lie:

The Crew: [ ]

NOZ (Nitrous Oxide): [ ]

City Streets: [ ]

Street Lethal: [X]

How is life with your team: Although she isn't close to all of the team members, Haneul does feel comfortable with them. She's more fond of them than she lets on, but they all know that's just the way she is. She's protective over Zelo the most because he's the maknae. There's only one guy that she can't stand- Minsoo; he calls her 'just another useless woman' and she calls him a judgemental ist. But despite their differences, Minsoo and Haneul would have each others' backs in dire situations.

Haneul is the unpredictable ace of the team and the moody older sister of the family.

Occupation/Education: Haneul went to trade school after high school, majoring in automotive mechanics, but also venturing into more broad technology courses. She is in charge of the garage's finances and appointments (which she does every night), working on the cars during the weekends. On the weekdays, she works in a technology repair shop-no certification was needed to get the job, but the place's reputation eventually overshadowed it's seemingly shady origins. With connections, she was able to get employed and fixes various gadgets for a living.

 Family:

father | Oh Minjun | 42 | bank owner | Minjun is a very reserved man, almost to the point of being socially awkward. However, he is very protective of those who he loves and is very hard-working. It's not too hard to get him to warm up to you, but he is naturally careful and precise about everything. Luckily, his looks make up for his uptight disposition | Minjun loved Haneul, even though he thinks that she now hates his guts. He still has trouble sleeping over the tragic end of his first family.

*Haneul's father is 1/2 American, 1/2 Korean

mother | Oh Hana | (deceased; 19 when she died, would be 39 now) | freshman in college | Hana was a sweet, loving girl. But she was very sensitive and prone to being emotional. She was a little on the gullible side and was easily interested/amazed in the simplest things; she was like a child, still believing in love and miracles | Haneul never was able to get to know her mother; but Hana loved her baby girl. She always stressed on doing everything well so that Haneul would be raised right. Although things didn't go as she planned, Hana regretted leaving Haneul and Minjun to fend for themselves in her last moments.

Haneul is bilingual (Korean and English)

She's never had a boyfriend (her first crush was/is Seunghyun)

She learned how to beatbox, dj, and drive from the gang members.

She's very picky about what she wears, but will eat just about anything.

She's allergic to cinnamon- her face swells up and she gets a runny nose.

Social Life?

Best Friends: Choi Dongwook

Personality: Dongwook is a kind, understanding guy. He's the kind of guy who would go out of his way to help others-even strangers. He could be seen as nosy, but he always has the best intentions. He's naturally protective and jokes around easily. Around Haneul, he's more straight forward to deal with her stubbornness, and shows aegyo to annoy her.

How did you meet: He introduced Haneul to Seunghyun and underground racing. Although he now has gone clean, Haneul still visits him often in the apartment where he lives with his girlfriend, Hanbyul, who always welcomes her boyfriend's little step-sister.

Friends: Pyo Jihoon, Yoon Bora, Kim Junsu

Personality: Jihoon is the cutest thing ever- that's how he would describe himself. He's always jokingly bragging about himself and prides himself in being cute, even when other people tell him that he's not. He's childish and can find joy in the simplest things. His role model is Seunghyun, and he does his best to gain approval from his hyung.

--Bora is the girl that everyone knows. She was popular wherever she went, being effortlessly hilarious and super friendly. She's great at reading people and getting out of sticky situations. Although she also is a bit boy-crazy, she's more of a tomboy than the average girl. But she does like looking good, of course-that's probably the only thing that she and Haneul have in common.

---Junsu is a cheerful guy who's passionate about what he does. He has a contagious laugh, has a positive outlook on things, and, at times, seems like he has no shame. Even though he's become more careful after his accident, he still loves a good rush every now and then.

How did you meet: When Seunghyun gathered all of the guys to introduce Haneul to them, P.O. did something that Haneul didn't expect- he called out 'Noona!' and ran to give her a hug. Haneul reflexively kicked him between the legs, not knowing what to do. Later, when she gave him a half-apology and expected him to think that she's a , she was suprised again by his cheerful proposal to be friends. Now always drags her with him, but Haneul doesn't really mind it (even though she may act like she does).

--Bora is employed at the same techno-repair shop as Haneul; she's the one who watched over the 'newbie' when she was first employed. They had a little bit of a rocky start to their relationship after Bora showed interest in Seunghyun when he came to pick up Haneul after her first day, but they became friends after Bora found out about Haneul's unrequited love. Being Haneul's only female friend, Bora's friendship is very important to Haneul; she just doesn't admit it. Most of Haneul's 'boy talk' is reserved for Bora to hear.

---Junsu won his last race as a member of NOZ with Haneul watching him from the crowd. She went with Seunghyun and some of the Street Lethal guys to visit him at the hospital after they heard the news of his crash. Curious, Junsu asked Seunghyun to introduce the new face to him, but she did it herself. Junsu laughed and said, 'I like her. Is she a new member?' When Seunghyun didn't respond, Junsu continued, 'If you're not sure, make her one. I've got a good feeling about her.' And that was how Haneul got into Street Lethal. Now he loves making her smile, and he watches over her in races to give her pointers and make sure she's safe.

Rival: Park Bom, Kim Jaejoong

Personality: Bom is a cute, 4-D girl. She's nice and very easy to joke around with.

Jaejoong looks cold and intimidating, which he could be if he's angry. He gets annoyed easily and has an 'I-don't-care' kind of attitude, yet he's more sensitive than he seems. But his secretive and sly ways could fool anyone to think otherwise.

What Happened: Bom is Haneul's rival for Seunghyun's heart- but Bom already has him. Haneul is frustrated at the fact that she can't bring herself to hate the nice girl since Bom always treats her like a little sister. But everytime she sees her with Seunghyun, she can't help but feel jealous.

Jaejoong used to be at the same orphanage as Haneul-he was one of those trouble makers who always got on the adults' and Haneul's nerves. He's now part of a gang that goes to check out the races sometimes. He saw Haneul's first race when she was 19 (which she didn't do too well in) and recognized her almost right away. On their way out, one of Jaejoong's friends patted Haneul's as a joke. She turned around, met eyes with Jaejoong, and, thinking that he was the 'culprit', slapped him. They got into a heated arguement that ended with Seunghyun breaking them up and dragging a frustrated/pissed-off Haneul back home. But now it seems that Jaejoong won't leave her alone while Haneul wants to avoid him at all costs. He can't help but find the 'new Haneul' intriguing; she can't stand seeing a reminder of her old life in her new one.

Love Life

Love Interest: 1) Choi Seunghyun/TOP (Street Lethal)

2) Woo Jiho/Zico (City Streets)

3) Kwon Jiyong (NOZ; Nitrous Oxide)

Personality: Seunghyun is the perfect guy to bring home to your parents (disregarding the fact that he's the leader of a street-racing team/gang). He's polite, courteous, modest, and responsible. He's an understanding leader but isn't hesitant in whipping his crew back into shape when needed. He's the kind of person that only shows his dorky side to his friends; others often mistake him for a cold and serious guy upon first glance. Seunghyun takes care of his team like a real father- he takes responsiblity for them, keeps his own problems to himself, and is very protective. He would care for someone else before himself, even when he needs someone to lean on. But his calm and level-headed persona does a good job of hiding that.

Relationship status: she- single, he- taken

Seunghyun has been with Bom for over 3 years, and has known her since they were kids. Haneul doesn't want to ruin that, so she acts like nothing's wrong around him. She feels inferior to Bom (their also makes her feel like a little girl). But these complications don't change the fact that his voice turns her to mush and his eyes always make her heart jump when they look at her.

How did you meet: Haneul was introduced to Seunghyun by her step brother during her first time as a race spectator. Although they barely knew each other, Seunghyun offered her a place to stay. Haneul felt like she could trust him and accepted his offer. From the beginning they had a spark between them that made their relationship more than that of friends, but they both choose to ignore it for obvious reasons.

That's a Nice Set of Wheels

Car: 2009 Nissan GT-R

(Haneul spent a lot of time perfecting her racing skills before she allowed the Street Lethal boys to buy her a car. She got her first car a few months after she turned 19. A belated welcome gift, you could say.)

Any Extras?

Questions/Concerns/Comments: I love this fic!! Practically all of my biases are in it, I love the background for each character, and street racing sounds awesome!

Anything else you want me to know:  I don't know much (okay, I know nothing) about cars ^^' Please let me know if my car is unreasonable or not racing material. I researched, so hopefully it's okay.

Any ideas you have for your role: Love triangle with Seunghyun and Jaejoong, please? ^^ (I guess it's a love square including Bom.)

Also a scene where she makes up with her dad.

Hey there! Don't worry, I haven't forgotten this apply fic. I just have a question. So, I figured Bora is her only 'outside' friend (friend outside of the gangs). But, what about Jaejoong and Bom? Were you intending they be apart of a street gang, either one mentioned or a completely different one, or an independent race? Or, you know, none of the above.

This is a wonderful application! I won't be able to post it in the received applications section at the moment since I'm on my phone and need to drive back to college. It'll be up either later or tonight, don't worry ^.^
Your background is fine, and if you want to include the details of your mother's deathItll probably be choi dong-wook (se7en)
