Research about fanfiction

Right now i should be working on a college presentation, but the subject is really boring and uninteresting for me... In order to chill out a little i decided to write a bit, work on a fanfiction...

The moment i started typing, my mind became clearer and clearer, my headache slowly faded away, giving room to ideas.

I think, i might be the happiest and the brightest when i write...

So, I might be presenting an academical work about fanfiction soon, and i would like to know from you:

1-why do you read fanfiction?

2-in your opinion, can a fanfiction be considered an original work? Why?

3-have you ever had trouble understanding a story, duo to grammar, spelling (and general language) mistakes?

4-In case english is not your first language, but you write fanfiction in english: had there ever been a moment you caught yourself stuck, not knowing how to say something in english (vocabulary or meaning)?

*you have my word your names/nicknames will not be mentioned.

Thanks you very much o/

1. Just because they make me smile, I loooove books but sometimes I want to read a bunch of nonpressional work because they're still cute.
2. Like an original work as a published book? If you mean this, then I'd have to say 'no' because you're writing fanfictions about real people or based on another person's work (if you write fanfictions for tv shows and etc.) But that doesn't mean your fanfiction isn't yours though because it certainly does belong to the person that writes them.
3. Yes, as a person who is only fluent in English (I'm such a fail asian) reading bad grammar bothers me to the high heavens.
4. I'm fluent in English so can't answer.

1. There are fanfiction that's almost good or even better than some published stories I've read, and I love a good story.
2. If the idea is original, yes. However, with the inside jokes and references can make it less original. It really depends on the story.
3. YES. It's the reason why I'm a reviewer, so I can give that feedback. Also another reason why I don't read a lot of fanfics as I would like to >.< But I've seen e-book with worse mistakes, and I know a lot of the writers don't have English as their first language.
4. English is my first language so...-.-

1. In my personal opinion, it's because someone can choose any topic they like and base a story off of it. Then, I can follow that topic and then read the story while knowing the background of the characters, etc. Like on this site, many of the characters are real-life people and imagining the stories in real life are entertaining XD
2. Yes. Just because you borrow peoples' names or the basic background of another work does not make it unoriginal. The writer of the fanfiction is the one making up the story.
3. YES!! Sometimes I find it annoying, but I try to understand if it's because the author is not proficient in English. (I'm born in America, and I don't speak or write in proper grammar sometimes.) However, I wish people would take the time to find beta readers or some other form to edit the story.
4. n/a, English is my first language
