Personality:

Chanji is just a regular type of person. Although she is just a normal person, she thinks that she is special in her own way. She has a case of 4Dness and it can get serious at times. Meaning that on national TV she can make a fool of herself without knowing anything. Chanji really has that bright but boyish like personality as it's most comfortable with her. She has also developed a slight trace of swag from GD her bestfriend while she trained at YG. She can act confident even though her confidence level is on the down low. Chanji just likes to appear as an outgoing idol who is willing to do anything or is willing to anything she is challenged to do. But when she is feeling down, she goes all quiet and it's hard to break her open. When she is mad she uses the 'ignore and avoid' technique. Chanji really likes to fool around with or without a camera, she is still the same with only a slight difference. Chanji tends to like everything and everyone she meets or comes in contact with. Chanji is like an ideal 'older sister' or 'sibling' figure. She is very caring towards younger and older people, regardless of their color, race, age etc. She likes to socialise and make fun of herself on camera because she loves to make people feel happy and bright.

 

Background:

Chanji came from a normal family. Her father Cho Minjoon works at a broadcasting station (usually KBS but can work at other stations like SBS and MBC at times.) and her mother Lee Sehee owns and runs a little bakery in Seoul. It is also running well and has existed for over 20 years. Her parents met when they were in high school and married after University. Her mother had dreams of becoming a singer in her 20's but could not achieve or reach that dream as she got married early and gave birth to Chanji 2 years after marriage. They were happy to have Chanji as a child.

Chanji was born on the 31st of August in Seoul Hospital. Chanji grew up as an only child with no sisters or brothers in the family. Chanji was a bright kid in elementary school as she studied hard and took up instrument lessons for drums when she was only 9 years of age. She always brought fortune for the family with her good grades and polite attitude to others. Chanji gave up drums at 13 years of age as she became interested in dance. She got into singing and dancing because of the music shows that would promote Shinhwa, H.O.T and S.E.S. She was really into the catchy dances so she asked her parents to put her into dancing and singing lessons. At 14 years of age, Chanji took up dancing and singing as a dream and worked hard. Her singing teacher was a foreigner who she looked up to dearly. The foreign teacher named Amy Appleby really liked Chanji and her voice so she agreed to teach her english to improve her pronunciation. Her dance teacher Kim Jeongsil pushed Chanji hard and far to make her a good dancer. He trained her almost daily and she became one of the best dancers in his class. 

When Chanji was 15 years of age, she was scouted by a YG representative who assessed her dancing class. When she started training, she found it quite easy but frustrating at the same time. Everyone was better than her at everything so she got trained by GD -who was about to debut soon-. It was a very awkward experience at first but she found a way to become friends with him.

How did you meet: Well Chanji didn't start out in SM Enteratainment first of all. Chanji started to train all the way in YG Entertainment. She was not the best trainee but improved once she got trained by her now best friend Kwon Jiyong. 2 years into her training with YG, she got traded over to SM Entertainment. In her first week of training, she couldn't keep up with the others because SM's training technique was very different to YG. YG was very laid back and welcoming while SM was strict. After the hours of regular training, Chanji would stay back and stay up late, trying to practice by herself and in her own way. One night, Chanyeol was looking for his bag as he forgot to take it while exiting the training room. As he approached the training room, he saw the light on and decided to check if anyone was there. Chanyeol opened the door slightly and found Chanji dancing in the room by herself. Chanyeol was very intrigued by her but tripped on his way in and landed on the floor, catching JJ by surprise. JJ helped him up and laughed at him for a bit because she thought that his entrance was funny. Chanyeol got embarassed and decided to look for his bag. Chanji was curious and followed his steps around the room and figured out that he was trying to find his bag. Now chuckling at the boy, she when in head first and introduced herself to him. She hoped that she made a good impression on him because he seemed friendly. Chanyeol and JJ now stand as friends.
