personal style ■ There is no word to describe Jiyeon’s personal style simply because it cannot be described. Jiyeon wears what she thinks is comfortable – a simple t-shirt and shorts does it for her, even on formal events (though there has been some scolding for not looking more presentable and wearing more, what she deemed as, “girly” attire). She can also be seen in polo shirts and plaid shirts – she has a thing for shirts you see. She also likes to shop at men’s stores because she sometimes finds their clothes to be much cooler and more comfortable than girl’s clothes. Jiyeon dislikes dresses, skirts and high heels to the point where she would rather do something stupid, embarrassing and rather ridiculous than having to wear any of those mentioned above. If she did have to wear a dress or a skirt, she would always wear a pair of safety shorts underneath. She dislikes dresses and skirts because she feels uncomfortable in them, seeing how she can’t move around as she wish because of the danger of exposing her womanly parts by accident.

Bottom line is, Jiyeon’s wardrobe consists of many different clothing (minus the dresses and skirts) and Jiyeon has many different styles that she likes to mix and match with each other. One day, she could be a walking rainbow while the other day she could be a though rocker chick – everything just depends on her mood (and at times, the weather too).

Jiyeon has the typical lobe piercings on both ears as well as a helix piercing on her left ear. She doesn’t have any tattoos but she would like to get one in the nearer future.

background ■ Unlike her older sister and brother, who both were born in Incheon, Jiyeon was born in Busan. The family was on a vacation in Busan at that time when Jiyeon was born and the family decided to stay over for a couple of months. Those couple of months turned into a couple of years as Jiyeon spent her early childhood at the place.

When Jiyeon was 10 the family moved to Itaewon, and two years later the family witnessed her brother, Daesung, going against their parent’s wishes to become a singer when he signed to YG Entertainment and began his trainee life at the company. Needless to say, their parents (mostly their father) were not pleased and for a while, they cut all contact with their son. Jiyeon didn’t like the way their parents treated Daesung – he was, after all, still their child – and so she secretly sent him encouraging text messages whenever their parents weren’t looking her way. She even visited him at the dorm after school and listened to him practice singing.

As her brother found his passion to be singing, Jiyeon found her passion to be dancing. She liked to sing too, but not to the extent that she would want to pursue a career within singing. A 12 year old Jiyeon started dancing after watching some dancers on the street and after trying out a dance class near her school she knew that this was something she wanted to do.

Daesung’s determination was very admirable, Jiyeon thought, and it inspired her to pursue her dream within dancing despite their parents’ protests. When she was 15 years old she auditioned for YG Entertainment, not to become a trainee, but to become a back-up dancer. During her days as a back-up dancer she naturally got to watch her brother and his group perform on stage (or at least in the practice room) quite often and it piqued her interest in singing. They looked like they had so much fun while singing and rapping that she wanted to see what it was all about.

After talking it out with Daesung she decided that she wanted to become a singer too – she already had the voice, she just needed the motivation to actually go through with it. Just like the situation with Daesung, their parents were also against the idea of Jiyeon becoming a singer although they saw it coming when Jiyeon once came running home and told them that she wanted to start dancing. They figured that if she started dancing, her interest for singing would emerge as well, seeing how much she had in common with Daesung.

Not wanting to use her brother’s fame as an easy way to the idol world, a 17 year old Jiyeon auditioned for CVn Entertainment who she knew was the entertainment company housing solo artist Ethan Kwon (she had a, what her sister deemed as “unhealthy”, crush on him) and another group that was known as a one-hit wonder (she later found out the group’s name to be Glitterati and after digging up their debut mini-album she became a fan -  too bad they weren’t promoting or anything) and has trained there ever since.

personality ■ Jiyeon is well known for being a loud, cheerful and optimistic girl, much like her brother, who is easy to get along with. Although she is friendly, she also tends to be very blunt and straightforward which often catches people off guard and can be offending at times. She hates beating around the bush when speaking and dislikes people who do so. If they did, she would demand them, in a rather rude way, to get to the point as quickly as possible before she lost interest in them. Jiyeon speaks nothing but the truth regardless of the situation, though there have been times where she has told a white lie. Note that she is the worst liar you’ll ever meet as it’s very obvious when she’s lying.

Some would say that she has the memory of a goldfish because she forgets small things easily. She is able to remember things that have a lot of information like memorizing a dance routine, lyrics or a recipe but cannot remember something as simple as a phone number. Skilled at brainstorming ideas, she often comes up with unnecessary and inappropriate ideas (though there are times where her ideas actually are brilliant), which usually are turned down by the other members.

With an energetic and impulsive attitude, Jiyeon is always on the go, having the habit of doing something spontaneous and slightly dangerous. She is a daredevil, liking to try out new things that not many has done before and she likes to provoke people into doing things they usually wouldn’t do, just to see whether they would give in to the pressure or not.

When dancing, which is her forte, she can come off as arrogant which she is not. She just has a lot of confidence in herself and dancing but that does not necessarily mean that she thinks highly of herself. She acts like it for laughs, showing off her dance skills whenever she can, but truth to be told, she is anything but arrogant.

Despite her rough mannerisms and speech, she enjoys sewing and is a very good cook, which surprises the other members because they never thought she was able to do something so “lady-like”. This is the beginning of their endless teasing as they joke around saying how they sometimes forgets that she is a girl in the first place and how she is the perfect wife material. In addition to being a good cook, she also takes a huge liking for any kind of food.

Jiyeon is extremely stubborn, to the point where her stubbornness can be very irritating, and once she has set her mind on something, nothing can change her mind. Determined and hardworking, she always knows what she wants and what she has to do to get what she wants. That is why she gets frustrated whenever she doesn’t know what she wants because it feels like she doesn’t have self-discipline, and she doesn’t like it when there’s no clear direction she can follow.

Jiyeon is shameless, the word “embarrassment” doesn’t exist in her dictionary as she is seen doing pretty much anything to make the people around her laugh. Affectionate is another good word to describe Jiyeon. One thing is that she enjoys skin ship very much, no matter the gender, and the other being her way of expressing her feelings. She is, however, not into romantic things like candles, fancy restaurants and expensive gifts – to her, simplicity is the most romantic.

A shoulder to lean on, Jiyeon is a friend you can depend on as she rarely break promises – if she did, it was not intentionally and was probably by accident. In return, she asks for her friends to not misuse her trust or break their promises with her. If something like that would happen, gaining her trust back would be a very difficult task to do and not many people have succeeded. Even if someone did manage to gain her trust back, note that she still would not trust you completely like she did before.

When she is not practicing, she goes out for a relaxing date with her Polaroid camera or goes out jogging. Long story short, whenever she is not practicing, she is still rarely seen inside her room or at the dorm as she is, as said, always on the go although at different tempos at different times.

→ Kang Minhyuk | Alive | Priest | Father
Working as a priest, Jiyeon’s father, Kang Minhyuk is rather strict and uptight, having a narrowed view on the world, especially the music industry. It’s too much to say that he sees it as a sin, having two of his three children working in the music field, which he doesn’t, but its close. He has learned to loosen up and accepted their choice which Jiyeon is very glad for.

Jiyeon knows her father likes to criticize whenever he gets the chance to and although she has accepted the fact she still can’t help but to roll her eyes at him sometimes. They have a normal father-daughter relationship although he’s very overprotective over her, even sending Daesung to be a “spy” in case something happens to her.

Like Minhyuk, Sunyoung was also against the idea of her two younger children becoming singers, but after witnessing them on the stage, she realized that this was what they wanted and if it made them happy she would be happy too. Unlike her husband, Sunyoung is more open-minded and acceptance towards the world and what’s in it.

Loving and caring, not to the point where she’s overprotective, towards her children. Jiyeon looks up to her mother because of her imagination and creativeness, finding inspiration in her mother’s creations. The two have a lot in common and loves spending time in each other’s company.

Bora takes much after their father and as the eldest child in the house, she’s strict towards her younger siblings because she cares for them, and both Daesung and Jiyeon knows it although Jiyeon thinks it can be a little too much at times. Underneath the layer of strictness, Bora is a cool sister, taking Jiyeon out shopping, teaching her how to skateboard and cooks with her.

Jiyeon respects Bora a lot and admires her (although she would never really admit it). As sisters, it’s inevitable that they argue, but the relationship between the two girls says otherwise. Bora doesn’t like to pick a fight and so they sort out their problems with a conversation, and for this matureness, Jiyeon admires her sister.

Daesung’s is known as a ‘Happy Virus’ and it’s pretty much true. He’s happy most of the time and very easy-going (some people might find this to be a little intimidating). A child at heart that’s what he is, despite his age, and a real chatterbox, loving to talk about anything and everything. Sometimes he comes up with the most bizarre yet entertaining stories you’ll ever hear and unlike Jiyeon, he’s actually a good liar and it’s difficult to distinguish his truths from his lies.

Even if he doesn’t technically spy at Jiyeon, like how their father told him to do, he still watches over her like the good brother he is. Any boys attempting to make a move on her would be stopped and questioned by him, and although he does it in the most comic ways he can think of, the boys still gets a little creeped out and backs off. Oddly enough, Jiyeon doesn’t have much against him being like this, as it just tells her who can get along well with her family, which is really important to her.

During her 10 years living in Busan, she befriended a lot of the neighborhood children but the one friend that she got along with the most was a boy named Daehyun, who was the same age as her. That was probably one of the reasons why they got along so well, the other neighbor kids were either younger or older than Jiyeon, but with Daehyun, she had found a same-aged friend. Daehyun acts like a second brother to her and also serves as her best friend.

Having known each other for a good 13 years, they’ve gotten used to each other’s good and bad sides, sometimes their habits rubbing off on each other, an example being Jiyeon’s habit of engaging in skin ship. Skin ship comes naturally when they’re together and it looks like they’re a couple, which they are not. Another thing that comes naturally is their Busan dialect.

Behind the mask hides an arrogant bastard that is waiting to be unleashed. Daehyun loves to throw a sarcastic remark whenever he can and like Jiyeon, speaks nothing but the truth, but his remarks are often said because he’s comfortable with you. Distant to the people he doesn’t know but is warm towards the one he’s close with. Cunning in his own ways, he often gets what he wants.

A year before Minji debuted in 2NE1, they met when Jiyeon was to teach a couple of trainees a dance routine she had choreographed. Minji stayed back after the class ended because she wanted to practice more and Jiyeon liked how determined the younger girl was. They started talking, sharing their love for dance, and has been friends ever since.

Even if they’re a year apart, their birthdays are pretty close so Minji doesn’t call Jiyeon ‘unnie’. Jiyeon doesn’t have a problem with that and it often shows how close the two girls are. Their style is similar although Minji tends to be more feminine that Jiyeon and they have a lot in common. When they are together people have dubbed them the ‘Mineon Sisters’ where Minji is the older sister and Jiyeon is the younger because of how much more mature Minji can act compared to Jiyeon at times.

Despite being the youngest in 2NE1, she still carries a mature aura which gives her some sort of authority. She’s often the one who keeps Jiyeon in check rather than the other way around though there has been times where she gives in to the other girl and joins her on her adventures. Also have occasional ‘jogging dates’ whenever they have time.

Although they are friends of the same age, they don’t share anything special in common except for their love of singing (this is mostly on Daehyun’s behalf although Jiyeon loves to sing as well), and they easily gets on each other nerves, as stubborn and competitive as they both are. Daehyun’s sarcastic remarks don’t really help the situation either as they constantly tries to surpass the other in everything – be it singing, dancing, heck even skateboarding and chess!

There are times where they sound like a bickering married couple with their verbal fights – Jiyeon is stubborn and Daehyun is determined which results in the fights lasting several hours. They usually always ends it in good terms so there’s nothing serious though there has been times where one of them has gone too far and said something that hurts the other.

Jiyeon is aware that there shouldn’t be competition between members in a group, but to her defense, she didn’t even know that they would end up in the same group. Jiyeon doesn’t hate the leader, that would be outright ridiculous, but she is very jealous of how much of a better dancer Saebyul is than her and she constantly stays behind in the practice room to perfect her dance moves.

Jiyeon treats Saebyul like she treats any of her friends. The jealousy is something Jiyeon knows she has to work with but she won’t let it get between the group’s dynamic and the member’s friendships.

Underneath the layers of friendship and rivalry, blossomed a crush which gradually developed the more time they spent together. They both denies this fact, afraid that they might ruin their friendship if they ever admit that yes, they have fallen in love with each other.

→ Lee ‘Seungri’ Seunghyun | Big Bang
The first time Jiyeon laid eyes on him she disliked him right away. She knew it wasn’t like her to judge him before getting to know him but she didn’t like his arrogant aura which resulted in her staying far away from him whenever they were at the same place. Seungri noticed this and confronted her, in which she bluntly told him how she felt and they ended it with a handshake and an “I hope I’ll see you again”. Needless to say, Seungri proved her wrong (she still finds him to be a little arrogant at times, but who can blame him) but they are on much better terms now than they were before.

They are partners in crime, bouncing around like two energetic balls while having fun in the most childish ways possible. The way he treats her is the same like how he treats most girls he’s close with but there are some subtle hints he sends through is words and actions which Jiyeon notices but thinks he’s just like that because he’s nice.

Seungri likes to act as manly as possible but everybody knows that he’s a cry baby and Jiyeon likes to poke fun at him for that. He’s witty and knows how to make her laugh whenever she’s down because his humor is similar to Daesung’s and Daesung’s humor is so lame that it’s actually funny. He sometimes tries too hard, trying to impress everyone, but with Jiyeon, he knows that nothing is more appealing than being himself.
