one || Do you buy Kpop merch, or do you just watch videos and hope that your bands will win?

I just watch xD I’m a bum, I know.

two || If you bought Kpop merch, how much merch do you have? And if you didn't buy any, what video did you watch the most (you think)?

I probably watched Nalina by Block B the most. That or As A Man by Gummy. The storyline in that one just mesmerized me.

three || Current song on repeat?

Roll Away Your Stone by Mumford and Sons.

four || Favorite radio song right now?

Ummmmmm I don’t really listen to the radio.

five || Your favorite fan fiction?

Of all time? Well, my top 3 are probably Jaharaan Love, Paper Boats, and Tempest in a Teacup.

six ||  Favorite author of all time (not fan fic wise)?

Markus Zusak. The Book Thief trumps all.

seven ||  Something you were glad you heard?

I’m graduating in 5 days :D

eight ||  Favorite quote?

“What is essential is invisible to the eye. Only with the heart can one see rightly.”

nine || Favorite line to your most played song?

Don’t it make you sad to know that life is more than who we are? - Name by the Goo Goo Dolls

ten || Top five most played songs?

1) Name by the Goo Goo Dolls/ Apathetic Way to Be by Relient K

2) Roll Away Your Stone by Mumford and Sons/ Love is Waiting by Brooke Fraser/ Awake My Soul by Mumford and Sons

3) Oh Danny Boy by Sinéad O’Connor

4) You Are More by Tenth Avenue North

5) I Won’t Let Go by Rascal Flatts and pretty much all their CDs.

eleven || The oddest story idea you ever thought of and wrote?

Well, I haven’t written much, so the strangest thing I’ve ever written would probably be 500 Million.

Jenny

  1. If you saw your bias (specify who) walk through the doors of your school, what would be the first thing that comes inside your head? Like the very first words you would think?

If I saw Taemin strolling through my school, my thoughts would probably be along the lines of, “GAH. THE FABULOUSNESS IS OVERWHELMING.” And then I’d faint or something xD

2. Most embarrassing moment ever?

This one time, at band camp… Just kidding xD I think the most embarrassing thing I’ve ever done was set fire to my friend’s table. Or the time I popped a guy’s jaw out during sparring.

3. Grab the nearest book to you, turn to page 18 and type out line 14.

This is an excerpt from This I Believe. “I go because I believe that no matter where you came from or what you believed in, when you die, you want flowers on your grave and people who visit you and remember you that way.”

4. Tell something that most people don’t know about you.

I like to eat frozen peas. I also have a strange fixation with the tabla.

5. What store would you choose to max out your credit card, assuming that you have one.

I don’t have one, but if I did, I would just live in Barnes and Noble xD

6. Which came first? Chicken…or egg? Give an explanation.

I’m going to steal from Luna Lovegood and say the circle has neither beginning nor end. You could argue this question until you’re blue in the face, but at the end of the day, we still don’t know.

7. Best childhood memory?

Rafting down my street after it flooded. I caught walking pneumonia and bronchitis afterwards, but it was so worth it. I also have a lot of fond memories camping and watching the rain with my mum.

8. When you retire, where would you want to live? Or do?

I’d like to travel the world, but settle down in a scenic place like Montana or Ireland.

9. Do you know all the words to your national anthem? If so, type the first verse. Can you sing to it with the right tune and rhythm?

I do, because we had to memorize it for eighth grade Music.

      O say, can you see?

      By the Dawn’s early light

            What so proudly we hailed

            At the twilight’s last gleaming

I can sing it correctly, whether or not it sounds good is another question entirely.

        10. Bungee jumping or sky diving? Why?

Bungee jumping because knowing me, I’d forget to open the parachute.

11. If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be and why?

I’d rid the world of human arrogance. We believe that the world needs us to take care of it and that without us it would die. This isn’t true. We have the potential to wreck the Earth, yes, but destroy it? Never. In truth, we are a very insignificant presence on the Earth and it is very capable of going on without us. What’s truly in danger is humanity.

Summer

  1. What's your favorite season, and why?

I love Spring and Fall equally. Both times are beautiful and everything smells so good xD I’m also really inspired during these times.

2. Why do you write?

That’s actually a ridiculously hard question xD Writing isn’t something that comes easily to me, and more often than not, I’m staring at a black document trying to find the perfect sentence. I actually started writing during a really low time in my life in order to sort out my thoughts and emotions. I found it was easier to cope when I wrote about someone else who was in the same situation as me, as well as to give myself advice. I continued to write because once I started, the ideas just didn’t stop.

3. A few good years from now, do you see yourself being the person you've always wanted to be?

Haha that’s another tough question. I don’t have the best opinion of myself and a lot of the time, I don’t think I’ll amount to anything. But if I had to pick something to become, I’d like to be the protector of my family and friends, of their happiness, safety, and memories.

4. Write a letter to your Mom, Dad or maybe even both. Tell them how you truly feel.

Dear Mom,

I know that this is probably being written too late, and it’s also probably too little, too late, but I want to let you know that I love you. I know our relationship hasn’t always been the ideal, secrets-and-shopping-days type, but you are still my biggest source of inspiration and courage. I’ve never told you this, but I love it when people mistake me for you on the phone because it makes me happy to know that even though we don’t look alike, there are still parts of me that make me your daughter and no one else’s.

I also want to thank you for letting me be myself. I know when I was a kid I was stubborn and difficult when I didn’t like something or didn’t get my way, but you bore through it and never strove to change this quality. As a result, I am not afraid to stand my ground when I know something is wrong or when I’m under peer pressure to do irresponsible things. Just a few days ago, when that lady was doing my hair for prom, she said she’d never met a smarter or more sensible eighteen-year-old in her life. We had been talking about after prom and I mentioned that my date had invited to me to go drinking at a friend’s house with him. I had to refuse multiple times before he finally let me alone. The hairdresser was amazed at my conviction and I told her I owed it you, for letting me stay stubborn. (I also owe it to your own dislike of spirits and alcohol xD)

I also want to recognize the fact that if it weren’t for you and your desire for a child (as well as your love of Asian children), I wouldn’t be here today. I can only wonder at the possibilities of who and where I would be, if I weren’t who I am here. It’s a difficult concept to deal with. And I am aware of the fact that my current interest cough cough obsession cough cough with Asia and Korea worries you, but I want you to realize that you’ll forever be my mother. This is because you are the one who took the time to deal with me and my attitudes, teach me and most of all, love me. I will always remember the crossword puzzles, the late night walks with Lucy, the “Girl Talks” on the bridge by Al’s Café, and most of all watching the thunderstorms from inside the garage. I’ll carry these things with me to college and wherever else God may lead me.

Love,

Molly

P.S. You totally threw that rabbit out the window. Bryan remembers it too.

5. In reality, do you want to be good friends with me? Give a good explanation. I like to read long answers.

I feel like that we’d be good friends in real life because I admire you, as creepy as that sounds. And to be completely honest, I don’t admire many (alive) people. I admire that you have “trust issues” because to me this says that you truly value yourself and the ones you care about. I admire your faith because I often struggle with my own. I admire your writing because it touches so many people, including me. After I read any new chapter of yours, I feel as though I’ve learned something or grown as a person, even if it’s in a small way. So yeah. I’m sorry for being all stalker-ish and stuff :|

                6. Tell me the best novel you’ve ever read. Why did you choose that certain book?

Gah, that’s such a difficult question XD I read too much for my own good. There’s no way I can choose just one, so I’ll give you my Top 5.

  1. The Book Thief by Markus Zusak. I first heard of this book way back in fourth grade, but I kept putting off reading it because I wasn’t particularly interested in Nazi Germany. I finally read it last year and instantly fell in love Zusak’s harsh, gritty prose and stark views on life, war, and humanity. The story is about a little girl named Liesel Meminger growing up in Nazi Germany. She is illiterate, but with the help of Rosa and Hans Hubermann, her foster family, she is able to overcome this obstacle and as a result becomes fascinated by books. After certain events transpire, she ends up stealing two books from a book burning. And so begins the illustrious and short-lived career of the Book Thief.
  2. The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry. Although this book is considered a children’s fairytale, it contains themes far beyond the comprehension of a mere child. True, the storyline is simple and sweet, chock full of talking animals and plants, however, this only serves to exemplify the novel’s message. This book is both entertaining for children, and helpful for adults, as it serves as a powerful reminder that age has very little to do with wisdom and true insight.
  3. Please Look After Mom by Kyung-sook Shin. This is easily one of the saddest, most heart-wrenching stories I’ve ever read and yet it never crossed over into the dreaded maudlin, soap opera theatrics that I’ve been running into lately (Twili- I mean, what?). The book follows a Korean family trying to locate their missing mother, who is simply referred to as “Mom” throughout the duration of the novel. The children in the family are grown, and the book has several flashbacks, which depict their poor treatment of the woman who raised them. The point of view shifts several times throughout the storyline, going from one family member to another as they remember and regret their neglect and mistreatment. This is an excellent book for any person who wants a genuine insight into Korean culture.
  4. Brave Story by Miyuki Miyabe. This book is really freaking long (a little over 800 pages), but is definitely enjoyable. You just can’t skip anything. What I love about this book is that it forces you to pay attention to all the details, which is a considerable task considering the book’s size and the frequent travel between worlds that occurs. Another thing I enjoyed was that the main character, a young boy by the name of Wataru Mitani, is nothing remarkable. He has no special skills or marks of greatness and there is little to no talk of any “Chosen One”. In fact, the first time he lands himself in Vision (the mythical land where the adventure happens), he gets kicked out after being told his being there is a mistake. I found this to be extremely refreshing. There’s too much going on the book to make a summary, so I’ll just say the book was awesome and you should definitely read it.
  5. Fruits Basket by Natsuki Takaya. I realize this is a manga and not a legit book, but it still holds a special place in my heart because this series is what started my interest with Asia. It also really helped me to realize the importance of an open heart and mind and I can still relate to the themes and characters even now. The story follows a young girl named Tohru Honda, who is currently living in the woods after her mother’s death. One day, while walking to school, she discovers that she’s been living on private property belonging to her classmate, Kingka Yuki Sohma. After a short meeting with Yuki and his cousin Shigure, Tohru decides to become the housekeeper of the Sohma estate, and soon becomes tangled up in the family politics and drama. This manga is actually aimed at middle school kids, but is a pleasant, light story to read even if you’re beyond that age. There is a 26-episode anime out, but I recommend the books because the anime gets several aspects of the story wrong. This is because the two were created at the same time, and the manga was nowhere near the end at the time, so the anime ends rather abruptly, and without meeting all the characters.
  6. Friends or family? Explain your answer.

I think that friends are really just family you choose for yourself and both has good and bad things about them. I’m actually not in the best state of mind to answer this question, since my best friend and I are currently experiencing a change in our relationship. So right now my emotions are all tangled up and fried to a crisp.

7. In all honesty, what do you think of me? Tell me the positive and negative things you see in me.

I think you’re a talented, sensitive writer and a devout, loyal friend. I like reading your blogs about your friends, because the way you describe them is really admirable. I think that sometimes, you can be a little harsh on yourself, and you should learn to believe more in yourself. It’s good to be humble, but I think you deserve a pat on the back for how well you write.

8. Do you have any teachers you deem as "unforgettable"? Tell me about him/her.

I’ve been very fortunate to have wonderful teachers throughout my entire school career, but there are a few that do stick out to me because I really respected them. However, I think the one that I will forever remember is my seventh grade English teacher, Ms. Feather. She was really short, but incredibly smart and very well cultured. I believe she’d retired now and traveling around the world. Seventh grade was really, really not a good year for me for several reasons. First off, it was middle school. I think that sort of speaks for itself. Second, I was awkward, quiet, and bookish, which made me an easy target for bullies. Third, seventh grade was the year two boys made a fake IM account in my name, and then went around and tortured people online. I was so confused and scared when I learned that someone was impersonating me, and I actually took a day off because I was so upset. Thankfully, one of my friends informed me early on, and was able to figure out who it was by asking them questions. We went and told Ms. Feather about what was happening and I can still remember the look on her face when we said that there was someone pretending to be me. She was talking with another teacher when we found her, and after we talked, both of them got real quiet and Ms. Feather got that look on her face, the one that let you know someone was going down. She walked us down the principal’s office and had explain what happened and who we thought it was and why. And the worst part was, I’d never even heard those boys’ names before. But the profile they had made about me was revolting. It was just full of racial slurs and degrading statements that weren’t true and I can remember thinking, ‘Is this all people see me as?’ But anyways, I didn’t go into school the next day. The day after that, I was called down to the office and the boys were there and there was lots of tears on my end, even though I swore I was gonna be tough, but Ms. Feather said something I will never forget. She said, “Make fun of me for my grammar or my spelling, because that’s something I can change. But never, ever make fun of me for the things I cannot change.” And to me, it was like she was reassuring me that I was fine, just the way I was. And that was such a relief to hear.

9. If a person you trusted so much betrayed you, will you forgive that friend of yours? Why?

Ah, this relates very well to what I’m going through right now. But what she did wasn’t really betrayal, per se. She didn’t divulge any great secrets of mine or anything along those lines. But what she did feels kind of like she betrayed my faith in our friendship, if that makes any sense at all. And I may be a horrible person, but I can’t forget that. I’ve forgiven her, because I know she doesn’t travel well, and she was probably remembering some unpleasant things at the time, but I can’t view her the same way. After she yelled at me, I felt something shift, and I was afraid to go near her the rest of the night. And then, in the morning, she acted like she’d done nothing wrong. She didn’t apologize until today, when I called her about it. It’s been at least a month and it kind of hurt that she never even thought to apologize. I just don’t feel like I know her anymore.

10. If for example, you're standing in front of he gates of heaven, and God is there.
He asks you, "Why should I let you inside my Kingdom?"

How will you respond?

Honestly, I don’t think I could respond. I’m…not a very good person. A lot of the time, I feel like a stranger in church. Like someone who doesn’t belong there. And I know God loves me and wants me to accept him, and I want to follow him, but I feel like I’m going into unknown territory blindfolded and I panic. I’m a coward, but I’m trying, but I don’t think that’d be a very convincing argument.
