STYLE. Jae eun can be jokingly said to be the personification of the brand Muji. She's a simple person who doesn't like to draw too much attention to herself, she likes neutral and matt colours which is always seen through her clothes. She definitely goes for comfort over style and enjoys wearing long coats. She often wears contact lenses but sometimes she'll have glasses on. Enjoys accessorizing with a simple watch, sometimes a sun hat. Jaeeun also carries around an old jean bag that was made by her grandmother.

Jaeeun is quite the nice friend to have. She is warm and friendly to quite a lot of the people around her. Some would describe her a little like a warm ray sunshine who is really down to earth. Many times Jaeeun would try to put herself in the shoes of others and try to understand their view on certain things. Though Jaeeun can be said to be quite the wallflower compared to her previous colleagues, she seems to shine in her special (and quiet ways). Despite her love of daydreaming, Jaeeun is a really responsible person. She would hate to trouble others or cause them any inconvenience so she takes every job given to her seriously and tries her best to do well or in some sense please everyone.
Being a type 9 in the Ennegram, one thing Jaeeun hates most would be conflict. She would do anything to avoid conflict rather not deal with it, giving in to the other party. This makes her quite avoidant in certain situations where she feels overwhelmed. She would choose to avoid any converstations on it. In times like this, Jaeeun becomes rather stubborn. Her stubborn ways are also shown in her way of working and her baking. Others would suggest other things, Jaeeun would listen but would head back to her own way of doing it - unless proven wrong. She doesn't want things to go wrong and becomes very hard on herself in terms of that.
Quiet and sensitve Jaeeun isn't just all that, at times, with a dose of courage, she becomes her rebellious teen self. She would make impulsive decisions that makes her feel like smacking her past self. Jaeeun thinks that she is the most boring person ever, but in reality she just hasn't really allow herself to discover more about herself and allow herself to fail and learn again. She hasn't learnt to be fully vulnerable to the people who care about her and know that it's ok to depend on others at times.
BACKGROUND.

Jaeeun's love for baking comes from her mother, being a famous baker herself. When she was a lot younger, her single mother was really busy and let Jaeeun stay with her grandmother in hongsan and would only be picked up by her mother during the weekends. She would attend the school here too, till she was 8, Jaeeun's mum decided to take a break from her work and brought Jaeeun back. It was then Jaeeun began to pick up baking from her mum as she was trying to figure out new recipes. Truth be told, her mum's business was failing and she was trying to figure out. Jaeeun would miss her grandmother badly and would call back every night.
Fast forward to when Jaeeun was 20, they got a phonecall saying her grandmother suddenly turned ill. Jaeeun was in culinary school in France. Her mother only allowed her to travel back and stay one weekend with her grandmother and sent her back to France so she won't miss school while her mother stayed on. The following two weeks her mother stayed with her grandmother and Jaeeun had a miserable two weeks in seoul. Her grandmother passed away after that.
After graduating and returning to seoul, Jaeeun got in a famous hotel which was her mother's wish and started working when she was 22, starting as an apprentice till now she's one of the head baker and also created a few creations of her own.
At 25, her mum passed away in an accident, leaving Jaeeun by herself. It was then, she was comforted by her colleague, Joonho. She began to fall in love. They dated for 2 years, but even though both didn't say anything, their relationship had turned stale, in some sense comfortable and boring. Through a friend, Jaeeun found out that Joonho has started cheating on her. Not wanting to face the truth, Jaeeun tried to avoid it, till Joonho himself confronted her saying that she didn't care for the relationship enough to even say something. They broke up but still saw each other at work. Jaeeun thought she could handle it but she couldn't. In the end, she decided to quit. She decided to close herself up at home and didn't want to meet anyone.
It was one day when she received a call from Ahjumma Hong who said that all these while, her grandma's home was being put up for rent and the previous had left last week, leaving the home empty. She mentioned previously her mother was the one who did the paperwork. Jaeeun decided she needed a fresh start and take a step of courage to, all these to happen right in - hongsan.
LIFSTYLE.
how are they living now
CURRENT LIFE. Two weeks after arriving to hongsan, Jaeeun decided she could not, not do anything. She began to source out and plan. Initially she planned to apply for the hwangs but then it was Ahjumma Hong who came to her and said she's old and tired. She has a store that sold side dishes. She loved the pastry that Jaeeun baked for her and thought that she could rent out the store to her so that every one else could come enjoy her pastry and she could still earn. Her only requirement was to have some space for her to still sell her side dishes. The store was quite the perfect place, it's a ten minutes walk from where she's currently staying. So Jaeeun kick started Jogae bakery. Jogae means seashell, which was one of her favourite things to do when her grandmother brought her to the beach and would call her a beautiful seashell.
STRUGGLES. Jaeeun had got herself so busy so that she could avoid her emotions. But even though she is almost done getting over Joonho, it was herself she couldn't get over. How bad was she that Joonho went to cheat on her. She suddenly had a feeling all these years, she has lost herself. She's been numb to herself trying to please everyone else. She gets very self judemental very easily to the point that the few around her has asked her to learn to love herself more. She's on a journey to discover herself being immersed in the favourite place of her childhood.
TRIVIA.
🍞 Some of the ahjummas when being introduced to Jaeeun would exclaim, "ahh this is Little Eun! You're so big now." All Jaeeun wants to do is to hide her face somewhere.

— Hi, I'm Jaeeun of Jogae Bakery here.
if you're new to the island, what brought you to hongsan? if you're a resident, how has it been like living here?
— I would say I'm a new and old resident of hongsan. It's been a few years since I was here and the last time was only a few days. But it's been great, I loved living her as a child and the feeling is still here.
what is one thing you wish you could run away from in life?
— Umm, possible for me to skip this question? *Akward smile* Well, as long as everything is peaceful, that would be the best.
what do you think about when you hear the word, "family"?
— For a while, I haven't been sure. I do miss my grandma and mother. But Ahjumma Hong have been showing me a lot of love, she's been indispensable. I guess that's like becoming family. Sou and Enri too!
everyone has their bad days and personal struggles. when you run into a problem, how do you handle it?
— Sigh, I would try my best to not think about it. I know it's not healthy and it's something I've been trying to deal with.
what's something you hope to gain as you continue to live your life here in hongsan?
— Part of that answer would be trying to find out what makes me, well me. A little of self discovery. I don't have a full answer, would just have to continue to be here to find out.

PERSONALITY. Woojin is the Mr Nice guy in hongsan. Staying here since he was young, he would greet many on the way to any place. He is kind and doesn't mind helping out. He's quite an observant guy and pays a lot of attention to details.
Even though not the most vocal, he is someone who would speak his mind and wouldn't remain silent when things happen. He tends to look out for others but sometimes is said to be quite like the "dad" of his group of colleagues though some of them are older than him.
At times, Woojini would overthink stuff and needs to gets to the end of things.
BACKGROUND. Woojin has been staying in hongsan almost his whole life. He has a younger sister, Enri and is also Ahjumma Hong's neighbour. His parents does a small courier service in hongsan using their van. When he was younger, he would follow them everywhere and he feels like he could be hongsan's unofficial tour guide, though he knows there's a travel agency that's run by the Kims that does that. He enjoys cooking for his family when he was younger and when he graduated he went to Seoul to work a few years before deciding to come back and help with his family as his mother was not too well and is currently still quite sickly. His sister wants to be a baker and he wants to support her as well. When the hwangs had an opening, he knew it was the best solution to work there and in a way support his family by being near.
LOVE STORY. their story goes a little way back. Though Jaeeun has cleanly forgot but Woojin remembers her grandmother bringing her over to visit Ahjumma Hong once a week. Then Ahjumma Hong baby sits him (Enri was not born yet) He remembered playing with this noona who was 2 years older than him. He remembered her being very friendly. Though it was not crystal clear, it was a nice memory. So when Ahjumma Hong reintroduced them again, Woojin was quite surprised to meet Jaeeun again. Though to Jaeeun, them playing together was a very hazy memory. Woojin hears a lot about Jaeeun through Ahjumma Hong and Enri. He would come by and become their handy man at times after his work hours as the three women (actually one is a girl) are clueless with plumbing and fixing stuff. He didn't mind as he helped Hong all the while previously. But after interacting more with Jaeeun, he found himself drawn towards her.
Jaeeun on the other hand, was touched by the moments Woojin would sacrifice to help out though he was busy enough himself. She began to look forward to meet him and found him so easy to talk to. But her internal fears of her previous relationship has given her panic attacks to anything relating to dating. And she finds herself holding back. Plus to her, Woojin is 2 years younger. When he dated Joonho, he was about a year older.
CURRENT STATUS. just friends currently.
Being friends with Jaeeun's grandma for a long time now, Ahjumma Hong or who sometimes Jaeeun just calls Hong affectionally, is also helping out at Jogae Bakery. They both have become friends and often remembers Jaeeun's grandma fondly. Hong has been a great source of strength and counsel to Jaeeun even as she feels particularly alone right now. Her only requirement she ask of is for her kimchi and side dishes to be sold at Jogae which Jaeeun readily agreed.
HONG
Sou, short form for souffle. Jaeeun met him in one of her bicycle rides near the beach back in Seoul. He has been living with Jaeeun for 2 years now and has now joined her in her adventure in hongsan. Sou is an old soul and enjoys sunbathing and just sitting by the bakery's door. He has become somewhat of a mascot and an attraction. Jaeeun new favourite thing to do with Sou is to watch sunsets together.
Before Jaeeun decided to kick start Jogae bakery, she had comtemplated working in the hwangs. She met Yeonjoo to take a look at the hwangs but eventually decided not to. Had a good chat with Yeonjoo though it was small talk. When Jaeeun started Jogae, she asked Yeonjoo if she needed a supplier for pastry and that's when the hwangs became her client.
YEONJOO
Like Jaeeun who has a hobby in photography, Junkyu met her one afternoon taking some shots of Sou and asked if he could do the same. They both had a nice talk and Jaeeun invited him to Jogae bakery from some bread to realize he knows Yeonjoo.
JUNKYU
Enri currently is studying and working part time at Jogae. She, Jaeeun and Hong jokingly calls themselves hongjaeri, a play on their names. Enri is happy go lucky and the chatty one of the trio. She often asks Hong for relationship advice as she often has crushes on the guys in her school. Enri also wants to be a baker and is learning a lot from Jaeeun. She's a big fan of Sou and loves playing with him. Ships her brother and Jaeeun
COMMENTS. hello hello, it's me again. I really do like stories like this. Hmmm I was thinking lots about food hahahaha and had an idea of a baker in hongsan and started spinning her story from there. If there's anything info that feels off, do let me know cause I kind of filled up the small info first before the main stuff and had to edit quite a bit for everything to make sense. Hope you like her character, I would say she's more simple and it would be her journey that would shine more :)
SCENE SUGGESTIONS. I would like to see the two - Jaeeun and Woojin baking/cooking together. And many antics from Ahjumma Hong and Enri to get them together hahaa.
These two would definitely take a while before realizing they liked each other.Oh maybe Woojin gets jealous when Jaeeun takes photos with Junkyu and gets her to teach him.
Oh or like there could be tourists from France and Jaeeun got roped in to help translate, a small moment for her to shine.
