appearance: tall and slender, that's the first thing people notice about howon. he's very thin for his height, probably because of how he doesn't eat properly and how often he misses meals. howon has wide eyes and an expression which often comes out as him glaring at you. he has an earring on his left ear. he has a scar on his lower abdomen, just below the belly button, from an incident during one of his cases.
civilian attire: howon's civilian attire consists of a plain t-shirt, skinny jeans and combat boots. he doesn't dress up and his casual appearance often seems like he just got out of bed. he keeps his hair tied in a bun. when working his day job (as a band member), he wears a leather jacket over his t-shirt.
costume: howon's hero costume consists of a black, long-sleeved kimono shirt over a plain, black shirt. attached on his kimono shirt is his capturing weapon, detachable using locks. he wears black, skinny pants and boots. attached on his belt are metal capsules where he keeps first aid equipment and his lotions. he also wears a black mask which covers his neck up to his nose, only showing his eyes. he wears his hair in a high ponytail. overall, his hero costume doesn't have a lot to it, to allow him swift movement and to not make too much noise when moving. the black theme allows him to blend with the shadows, which is needed when doing his jobs. his gloves have knuckles on it which he uses when fighting hand-to-hand. his retractable pole is hidden in one of his metal capsules.

• howon's quirk allows him to break whatever he touches with all five fingers to shatter and become easier to break. the amount of shattering depends on the length of touch (longer contact: full shattering, shorter contact: only cracking the surface). his quirk doesn't destroy whatever he touches, it simply creates cracks on it which allow for an easier shattering. his quirk doesn't have an "off" switch so he usually uses one-finger gloves to prevent accidental contact.

• this move is when, in dire situations, howon uses both his hands to activate his quirk on a single object/being.
strengths: howon's quirk is best used in solid objects such as weapons, which are easier to break. his quirk also works on living beings to shatter their bones (since you can't shatter skin).
weaknesses: howon needs to touch the target with all five fingers of either hand to activate his quirk. when even a single finger is removed, his quirk stops working. he also can only control one hand perfectly. when using both hands, the longer he is in contact with the target, the harder it is to control. when he overuses his quirks, cracks begin to manifest in his hands, wounding him and making him unable to use his hand for the day. his quirk doesn't work on quirks which hardens one's skin/body.
fighting style: when fighting villains, howon prefers to hide in the shadows while waiting for an opportunity to restrain his opponents. once restrained, he uses his quirk on the villain's weapon or equipment to render them unusable. to make sure the villain doesn't escape, howon shatters the bones in one leg. he's a tactical fighter who makes use of the facts and information he has on-hand before he makes a move. although he takes a longer time in completing assignments, he has a 100% success rate.

upon meeting howon, a lot of people have told him that he didn't suit being a pro-hero. not only was his quirk destructive in nature, he didn't seem to be the type of person who'd save other people out of goodwill. howon is known to be very blunt and open about his opinions, which are, more often than not, goes against majority. he's also not the type to filter out what he's saying, and he's not shy in using swear words when speaking. most people, especially those who only know howon as the pro-hero shatter, tends to avoid him, finding him intimidating and unapproachable. he's often strict on others and himself, expecting no less than perfect in his and other's work.
howon, being the socially-awkward person that he is, prefers not to make himself standout, which is the main reason why he prefers working at night, doing jobs other heroes do not want to do. he is fully aware of how people perceive him and he knows that his blunt, and foul-mouthed self will only be feed to the hyenas that are the media. he knows that they can easily project their image of him onto him, and because of how he's un-hero-like and rude, they'd easily feast on him. the media is also one of the reasons he stopped working for the #1 hero's office.
the one thing howon is incredibly passionate about (that is, besides his hero work) is music and he is a member of a band as his day job/secret identity. he plays the guitar and the bass for the band. he loves music and it plays a very important part in his life, it being the only thing which has remained constant in his otherwise every changing, messed up life.
howon is the type of person who follows his mind rather than his heart. he only believes something he sees, feels and experiences rather than what people say. he's the type to not make a move unless he has gathered enough information, which is evident in how he works as a pro-hero. he is a realist. he doesn't think about the what ifs, and doesn't believe that people, especially villains, can change for the better. he's not the type to look at the good in a person, but rather, is the type to always think of the worse it another person.
because of his blunt tongue and foul-mouthed way of speaking, howon is often misunderstood. he doesn't directly help a person, rather, he'd do it in a way that wouldn't affect the person in any way, which often make him appear to be the bad guy. he's also not the type to easily throw out compliments so when he does compliment someone, it's a big deal because he means it 100%.
howon takes his job a pro-hero seriously, even though he only thinks of it as a source of income for him and his mother. he's not the type to publicly express his desires to save other people, because he doesn't actually have that emotion in him. he's the type to save those who are in front of him rather than attempt to save everyone. he does think highly of other heroes who do the more showy aspects of hero work like the #1 and he does respect them, but he doesn't think of himself as someone who'll be able to do it.
background:
becoming a hero was never a dream of howon's. in fact, for a great part of his childhood, especially after his quirk appeared, he disliked anything related to heroes. his father, who he never met after he lives his mother after finding out that she was pregnant, was a hero. howon has always resented his father, only knowing his name and pro-hero name, for leaving his mother when he needed him the most. a lot of people called his a poor child for growing up without a father, but his mother did her best to provide for him and make sure that he had everything he needed. he loves his mother dearly, and would do everything to make sure that she is comfortable and happy.
his quirk first materialized when he was 3 years old while he was out playing in the park with some other neighborhood children. he was holding on to the edge of the slide when it suddenly forms cracks before shattering with full force, shocking all of the kids and injuring some who were hit with the debris. this traumatizes howon for a while since it was the first time his quirk appears and he had hurt some other children. after that, all the other children began isolating him, scared of what his quirk might do if they come into contact with him.
on his first day in middle school, while doing introductions, a student made fun of howon, saying that his quirk was something that villains used, since it was so destructive and that he didn't look like a hero. this angers howon and fuels a competitiveness in him that he didn't have. he knew right then that he had to become a hero, just to prove the people who told him that he can't be a hero, wrong. he starts focusing more on his studies and hero-studies and starts learning how to control his quirk better, earning him, after three years, a full scholarship and a recommendation to a hero high school.
after graduation high school, howon, as the pro-hero shatter, begins working as a sidekick at the #1 hero's office. he quickly rises to the top among the sidekicks, being an efficient and hardworking sidekick, which in turn, fuels some other sidekicks jealousy. they don't bully him, that wasn't such a hero-like trait after all, but they obviously isolate him, all the more when he starts working closely with the #1 hero who takes a liking to him.
he stays with the #1 hero for 3 years before deciding to leave. the two of them were just two different and the way they saw things were just to different that they often contrasted with each other. it didn't cause any tension, whatsoever, but it was enough for him to start feeling uncomfortable with the #1 hero. it didn't help that the #1 hero was always such a magnet for the media. although their differences causes him to dislike the #1 hero, he greatly respects the things they do to save the public and deep down, he does sometimes think that maybe, just maybe, the #1 hero might be able to change villains for the better.
after leaving the office, howon establishes his own, albeit small, hero office at the age of 23, focusing more on dirtier jobs other pro-heroes do not do and the police are unable to solve. he begins becoming more active at night and away from the spotlight, solving cases which do not get any media exposure, and soon enough, he gets forgotten by the masses, the only ones knowing him being hardcore hero fans and other pro-heroes. he still works with the #1 hero occasionally, when the need rises but other than that, he tends to avoid any relation with the #1 hero, whatsoever, even in their private lives as civilians.
two years after starting his work as an underground hero, howon gets into an incident with a villain with a mutant-type quirk which enable him to turn his arms into sickly-like weapons. while fighting, a civilian gets caught in between the two of them. seeing this, howon quickly goes to the civilian just as the villain was about to cut the civilian, in turn, cutting howon's abdomen. this becomes the opening in which he restrains the villain and takes him into custody, but soon afterwards, howon goes out of commission for a month to recover. as a result, he has a long scar on his lower abdomen, just below the belly button. it's something he's insecure of and doesn't like anyone touching it, especially his mother, although she doesn't know.

introduce yourself. what is your profession?:
er, hello, i guess. man, is this necessary? my name's kang howon, a pro-hero under the name shatter. i work underground, away from the eyes of those hyenas. i'm also in a band, i guess. that's more like my main job? no, being a pro-hero is my main job since it brings in the most money. i play in a band during the day. my band members don't know i'm a hero and we're not close enough for me to tell them. heck, we only meet to play.
how does your quirk works?:
when i touch something or someone with all five fingers, cracks appear on it, making them easier to break. the longer my hand stays on my target, the deeper the cracks and the easier for it to break.
what do you think about the pro-heroes and villains?:
that's a pretty sensitive topic, you know? i mean, one obviously cannot exist without the other. without heroes, there would be no villains and without villains, there would be no heroes. others probably won't agree with me on this, but i think villains are a necessary evil. i mean, of course, what they're doing is not good and i do hate villains, but they're also what's keeping the hero industry afloat, you know? but villains also need heroes because those with quirks who do not know what to do with them are the ones who became villains, while some become villains because they resent the whole superpowered industry. i don't know.
do you know about the illegals?:
officially, i do not. off the record though, i do. being an underground hero myself, i understand the nature of their work. i can't tolerate them, officially, but i do commend their work. they do good work. that's all that matters, honestly. titles of being pro-heroes, illegals and the like, they're unnecessary.
what is your true purpose and goal?:
to give my mother a comfortable life. simple as that. i don't dream of ridding the world of evil. i can't do that. i'll do my part, then i'll just disappear like the rest of the heroes who do not rise to be just like the #1 hero. i'm fine not being known. i don't need the praise. as long as i do my work well and get paid, i don't have a problem.
how do you want your endgame to turn out?:
death comes with the job. i don't really have a strong connection with life, you know? i understand that being a pro-hero, i go toe-to-toe with death on a daily basis and i don't mind that. however, if i do end up dying before my mother, i have to ensure that she will be comfortable for the rest of her life. but honestly, i just wanna reach retiring age and die of old age, without anyone knowing.

#1 hero: my sidekick. i wish you'd stop thinking so negatively of the world. the world is not black and white; they are gray areas. i understand your opinions but i really wish you won't push people away. i was sad when you left but i know you're doing good work nowadays. let's grab a drink sometime and talk about the past.

first meeting: they first met when he saw howon busking one night. he kept bugging howon until he finally agreed to join their band, although only during performances and not officially as a member. howon found him really annoying at first.
interaction: they're close friends and he's the only reason howon joined the band in the first place. they've known each other for over 10 years. sunho really enjoys listening to howon's music and he's the first one to hear and sing howon's songs. he actually has a music player where he keeps recordings of their duets. they often go drinking together and he's the one who sends howon home whenever he gets drunk. he's one of the few people who's able to look past howon's bluntness and see the kindness underneath. he's had a one-sided love for howon for years now. his jealous side only comes out when it's related to howon and he's very jealous of how close and how much howon depends on jinwoon.
