PERSONALITY. Shy, proud, self-reliant to a fault, competitive, stuborn, petty, lonely, outwardly arrogant, ambitious, sassy, haughty, perceptive

 

They say pride is the greatest of the sins, and Szeyuen has a plethora of it. She has always been self-reliant to the point of hating asking for help. Szeyuen will do it herself or not at all, asking for help feels like admitting defeat and Szeyuen will not admit defeat. She's super responsible, she's been a goody two shoes who gets everything done that the authority figures expect from her. You can rely on Szeyuen to do what you ask her to do, unless you ask her to get along with people of course.

 

She's extremely competitive and stubborn, she hates not being able to do something and she hates being reliant of others. It doesn't help that she has trouble making friends in general. It's not that she doesn't want friends but she has some real issues opening up because opening up means vulnerability and Szeyuen does not do vulnerability. See about the pride thing? It's a real issue. The language thing doesn't help either for sure.

 

This makes her seem very arrogant, her reliance on herself and her pride make her look cold and haughty, further stretching the divide between herself and others, which in turn just makes Szeyuen just more insistent on showing everyone that she can make it on her own, that she doesn't need anyone. She's going to be the most gorgeous idol and she'll do it all herself.  At least her self-impost outcast status means she's quite perceptive, beware of the quiet ones, even when sitting in a corner reading a book Szeyuen is still aware of her surroundings... until the book gets way too engrossing that is and then they were supposed to leave 15 minutes ago but has anyone seen Szeyuen??

 

Though none of that satisfaction does anything to keep the loneliness at bay, to stop the ache when she sees girls laughing together, being bros, and she's on her own because she's always on her own. Because she only needs herself... right?

 

If you do gain her friendship, Szeyuen will be a frustrating but loyal friend. Relying on others is a foreign concept to her and it will take some growing to get used to having someone to depend on (and getting it through her thick skull that that's not a bad thing), but Szeyuen is naturally cheeky and mildly insolent person. Her humour is dark and sharp, often with a hint of snark, but someone who captures her loyalty has a friend who would fight for them and go through fire for them. Just... good luck getting there.

 

BACKGROUND. Szeyuen was born the only child to two very hard working lower middle class parents trying to make it work in Hong Kong. Their work hours were very long and Szeyuen was left alone a whole lot, she learned to be independent and take care of herself. Her parents worked their butts off to give her everything: a good school, after school language lessons, after school dance lessons, and Szeyuen went dutifully to all of them. She didn't complain about the loneliness, she didn't complain about having to figure things out herself, she just did them. Her parents sacrificed enough for her, she thought, so she could do her part.

 

She was 13 when she was streetcast for modeling, which she did for 5 years, mostly for magazines and such. Hong Kong being a pretty confined culture she became fairly well known as a cold city beauty and many wondered if she'd take the step into the local entertainment industry. Szeyuen chose Korea and Big Hit for one simple reason: she, too, was not immune to the BTS wave. She liked kpop a lot and it all started with her classmates introducing her to I Need U, she was sold instantly. 

 

Szeyuen talked things over with her parents, she wanted to try becoming an idol somehow, be it kpop or cantopop. She liked modeling, like the feeling that others thought she was beautiful, liked the sliver of renown that had given her, how much more would being an idol provide? Her parents weren't super into the idea, they wanter her to do the stable thing of getting a useful degree (and then mostly using it to find a rich husband to take care of her) but Szeyuen made a deal: she would audition for one Korean company and, if that failed, one local one. If those failed she would go to university and follow their plan.

 

The choice of the one company was easy, and with her beaty and passable dancing skills she was received with open arms.

 

 

- She loves the angsty BTS sound, that's the one she really fell in love with. I Need U, Run, Boy in Love, Spring Day, you know the kind. She's not a huge fan of this new sound though and kinda hopes they'll get back to being angsty boys. Her bias is Namjoon, though she's not a huge fangirl. It's mostly about the music, she's kind of a cold frog even with idols she likes.

 

- She likes EXO, Red Velvet, Blackpink, VIXX, and BTOB too. Also, surprisingly, Momoland. She likes angst but nobody can deny the bop that is Bboom Bboom.

 

- While she responds to all four versions of her name (Szeyuen, Xueyuen, Siwan, Coco), the Cantonese version feels the most familiar even if she modelled as Coco. As the first name she knew there' something confortable about it.

 

- Know the Dai dance but that's the only kind of dance she studied before she started training and she's a little rusty even there (def the whole reason her dancing twin is Yuqi).

 

- Her hair is her greatest treasure. She knows it's gorgeous. She nows it cascades like a graceful waterfal when curled. She knows it's thick and glossy and amazing.

 

- She knows how to play the piano like the vast majority of Asian kids around, but she's not very good at it. She's not super musical in general, really.

 

- She loves reading, especially old literature. She loves the old masters and she loves reading old poetry. The age and context makes it better. She's very well-read and when not practicing she can often be found reading.

 

- If she had gone to university she would have studied literature and culture studies.

 

- She has never had a pet but she's fascinated with the idea of it. Animals are soft and fluffy but also sharp and unpredictable and a little scary. She wants to know them better but she's also a little nervous around them.

 

- Has never figured out how social media works aside from posting pretty pictures of herself. If she had a twitter it would probably only be completely unironic boring accounts of her day to day life or really biting and snarky social commentary. She'd also never use hashtags or figure out how @ing works.

 

- Despite the fact that she's the worst people person ever, she really does love being an idol. All that adoration nourishes her even if it exhausts her in equal measure.

 

- Hit or miss on variety. She's either forgotten in a corner or ratting out the most embarrassing secrets of the other members in the snarkiest way. Beware the quiet ones, they see all.

 

- She's ace and biromantic, not that she's actually aware of that.You need emotional availability for any kind of romantic connet and... weeeell...

 

 

 

Szeyuen doesn't hold much of an opinion on Yesol, the girl is quieter when she's alone (which is kinda nice), and annoyingly loud and distracting when she's with friends (def not nice), but that's about all the thought Szeyuen spares her.

 

Raquelle has a short fue and Szeyuen avoids her where possible, she doesn't really want to deal with that. She thinks Raquelle is rather rude and wild, like she expects a cornered animal to act, any time that mouth opens it could be something sharp and hurtful just for the sake of something sharp and hurtful. At least she can respect Raquelle's independence, that's something, but if she wants to be an idol Szeyuen is of the opinion that she really ought to control herself more or she'll bring them all down.
