On reposting and other things

I keep seeing people getting extremely upset about their works being reposted or plagiarised, yet I can’t relate. I have no real issue with this. Is it because I’m dead inside?

I mean, I put my writing out here for you all to enjoy. It’s free, it’s available. As long as somebody else is not making money out of them, I’m alright with people reposting my stories. Even if I’m not credited, what difference does it make? I’m not a renowned author, my stories aren’t that amazing, and I just want readers to take joy in them.

I don’t care that you don’t know the author because who the hell cares about the author? It’s the characters and their experiences that you should care about. Not me.

So, even tough it’s nice to be credited and recognised, I would never take my stories down because of plagiarisms or reposting.

The only reason I would ever take them down is because of my own hatered for them.

As always, thank you everyone who upvotes, comments or sends DMs telling me that you enjoy my works. You’re the real MVPs. You’re the ones who keep fanfiction writers going.

That’s good for you; keep being you. But don’t let your own feelings towards plagiarism affect how you think of authors who /do/ feel hurt by plagiarism and/or reposts done without their knowledge. Just because you don’t care doesn’t mean their feelings are sensitive or wrong in any way. Just remember that. :)

I may not be a famous writer at all but I’d hate to see my fics posted on websites I don’t want them to be. With that said, it should go without saying, that I’d hate it even more to see someone plagiarize it and take credit for my work, especially if they comment on the universe or the characters without knowing jack else but what the story says. I may not be famous but I made something I was proud of, proud enough to show the internet. You can be damn sure I’m also going to be the only one who decides /where/ you’ll be able to find the fics and that I’m credited as the rightful creator of the story. It isn’t very hard to ask the author if the fic can be reposted to [insert various website] or if you’re allowed to translate into [insert language] because you like it a lot.
And you should, in general, stay away from stealing people’s things and claiming them your own.

The problem is that the plagiarizer takes credit for the stories. I don’t know about you but I wouldn’t work on a chapter for 3-5 hours just to have someone copy and paste my work and claim it as their own.

As far as reposting. If someone asks to repost my stories, I’d have no problem with it. Even if I’m not credited as long as I know it’s out there it won’t be a shocker if one day someone says my story has been reposted by someone else.
