APPEARANCE — neither too tall or too short, haseon is an average height of 5'5", or 166cm, and weighs 51kg. haseon is not haseon without her square jaw and heart lips. while she has tried ombre and even went pink during her old and golden days, the care routine for colored hair has graduallly become too much work for her. today, she prefers her locks to be a more subtle color like brown or black.

FASHION SENSE — after attending hanyan, haseon's choices in outfits has changed. if she were a freshman, perhaps she'd wear a pair of washed-out jeans and a chic graphic tee. nowadays, her outfit only consists of sweats, a hoodie, and maybe a cap if her hair is greasy. now, that might sound really simple but there are actually many perks. first, you can toss it on when you've only got five minutes to get to class. second, it's super comfortable aaaand affordable. third, it's somewhat stylish??

it's not the biggest surprise that haseon is known for being a member of the nonexistent club called 'hanyang students that could probably survive the quiet place (don't mess with them, they're actually kind of scary)'. if it's not sports related, the only talk about haseon always involves the words 'silent' and 'intimidating'. she's even heard unbelievable claims like "haseon has a speaking disablility, that's why she doesn't talk" or even "haseon got her tongue cut off when she was younger, you can sign to her though". one, haseon can't sign, though she'd very much love to. and two, she's really only quiet to get a good look at everyone. haseon is sharp-eyed and could get a good look at everyone within a matter of seconds.

as she has grown, haseon has really followed the saying "trust your instincts" as there is a higher possibility that they're right. it's very likely that if you give her a couple of seconds, she could figure out someone's true intentions and instincts. it's as if she's some kind of human lie detector and could see right through you. never underestimate haseon's intelligence. she's both thoughtful and cautious with every move. with that kind of personality, haseon always two steps ahead. she's a cap, what can you expect? homegirl is always on top of her game.

once haseon is comfortable with you, which doesn't take long if she genuinely feels that you're a nice and kind-hearted person, you'll start to believe that the cold and hushed haseon was just a façade or a front she was putting up. while she might be labeled 'boring', haseon is actually a teasing and playful . she's the type of friend who would probably insult you, in a jokingly manner of course, without even realizing it. her intentions are never to hurt you, her humor is just dry and extremely sarcastic. her jokes come off weird majority of the time but if you understand and relate with her humor, you'll find her absolutely hilarious.

haseon is an expert at analyzing the atmosphere. she can adapt to any situation and even knows exactly what to say to lighten the mood up, or at least try to raise the mood. it probably would be something along the lines of "i'm throwing myself off a cliff, anyone want to join me?" and the group of people she is with could take it either way. nonetheless, haseon will be your most loyal and faithful friend. once she has befriended you, she will stick by your side through all the rocks and stones that might come your way. unless you break it.

it's not very easy to break haseon's trust and do her wrong but when you do, she will come for you. haseon might not start the war but she sure does have the right armor to help her win. during the whole period of haseon just watching and studying, haseon is collecting dirt and information she could use against you. words coming out of when she's heated are vicious. and haseon doesn't regret or taking any of it back. when she leaves the friendship, she leaves for good.

when faced with difficulties and hardships that others might not be able to get up from, haseon conceals her feelings and endures it all. this might be a wanted trait or skill for many but it's problematic for haseon. she has a tendency to just shut everything else out and focus on the one thing in front of her. haseon will bottle up her pain and refuse to talk about it. she'd rather struggle on her own than reach out for help.

BACKGROUND —

"started from the bottom, now we're here? there was never really a bottom."

haseon doesn't have a very sad background to interest others. it's rather quite simple and boring. she was born into a pretty wealthy family of three: her parents and herself, she lived in a house too big for her family, she went to a good school, she had good grades, and was fantastic in her extracurricular activities: track and soccer. her family decided to move to south korea after seven years in florida and in korea, her birthgiver became the birthgiver of another girl. haseon told her dad that she wanted to become a surgeon which was not what he was hoping where her heart would lie. nonetheless, he supported her decision.

"never did i think i would be attending hanyang- never knew it existed, for that matter- university and living at the hwangmok house."

three years after telling her father she'd rather be saving lives and not scoring goals, it was time to choose where she was headed. haseon's dream school was always yonsei university. she studied extra hard and even almost cut out soccer from her life in order to get in. but, unfortunate for her, haseon was rejected. she had two other choices: pusan national university and ewha womans university. that is until a good friend of hers suggested her to check out hanyang university as they have a really good pre-med program. so it was decided. she would be attending hanyang university.

freshman year, haseon dormed at the moobon house. it was nice and all but all the kids were snobby and stuck up. perhaps they accepted her because she gave off the same vibe. sophomore year came around and it was time to choose dorms again. haseon was not choosing the moobon house again, of course. it was too hectic in the dokgo house and the kids from the namgung house were just not haseon's taste. there were no other places but the hwangmok house to stay at. and despite hearing all the rumors from other classmates, hwangmok actually didn't feel that bad too her. yeah, it may be rundown, might be ranked last, and has a lot of history behind it. but it was quiet AND cheap. and honestly, what can get better than that?

PART ONE

FIRST OFF, WHY THE HWANGMOK HOUSE? — answer well, haseon! this is probably the most important question being asked, she thought. "uhm, well. it was quiet around here..? and to be frank with you," the volume of her voice lowered, "the kids from moobon ."

WHAT CAN YOU CONTRIBUTE AS A FELLOW HOUSEMATE? — "i like to think i'm good company for dinner. does that count?" her face scrunched before her lips curled into a soft smile, "i'm kidding. i consider myself an expert at washing dishes and cleaning the counters."

ARE YOU GOOD WITH YOUR HANDS? — her eyebrows raised in shock as she attempted to come up with a polite answer. "ahh. . ... we've just met. i don't think its appropriate for me to say." haseon's eyes squinted slightly as she questioned why that would be a question, until she realized that she was thinking the wrong way. "i mean, of course. definitely."

ARE YOU WILLING TO DO MANUAL LABOR? YES OR YES — "uhh no." a beat passed and the interviewer looked at haseon like she's absolutely rude and spoiled. "that was sarcastic, sorry." she rubbed her nape.

DO YOU SMOKE? — haseon answered this question with hesitation and caution as she didn't know if the interviewer was a smoker, "actually, the smell of cigarettes isn't exactly my taste."

WHAT TIME DO YOU GO TO SLEEP? — "eleven 'cause i don't have the endurance to interact with others." she let out a quiet sigh, "i'm kidding, kind of."

ARE YOU A MORNING PERSON? — "honestly? i'm not but i wake up early nonetheless."

DO YOU PLAY MUSIC WHILE STUDYING? — "it just really depends on the day." she shrugged. usually, there would already be music playing in café beirut but on her own, there'd only be music playing to remind her that it's okay to be not okay.

ROOM DESCRIPTION —

as someone who really only comes to the hwangmok house to sleep and eat and rushes to get out of the house, people would usually expect to not be able to see the floor of haseon's room (despite her being someone more on the organized side). and knowing haseon likes shades of beige, green, and blue, they'd also expect her room to be those colors. haseon prefers her side to be themed with monotone colors. and contrary to popular belief, it's is very tidy. i mean, she literally spends three hours cleaning her side every saturday (and sweats are easy to find). it consists of a standing mirror, makeshift desk, a storage chest located at the foot of her bed, another storage chest acting as a stool for her desk a dog bed, and a rack with her nicer clothing hanging.

on top of her desk lies her laptop, a picture of her family, a mason jar full of pens and pencils, and a lot of medical related books. if you look hard enough, you'll find other genres such as romantic comedy and mystery mixed in with the educational books.

the shelves underneath the main surface of her desk contain simple skin products and makeup products such as an oil based cleanser and moisturizing cream. it also acts as storage for her brush, bobby pins, and oh so many hairties.

in yukhei's case, the sailors are all the girls he has up to him. and no, he does not kill them nor is he doing it on purpose. he might break their hearts but nothing bad... .. right?

to make it short, when you see yukhei walking around on campus, it's like he's screaming "i radiate so much f@!%ing confidence, don't touch me" and "oh look at me! i'm very very friendly and talkative and will flirt with you, girl or guy *heart eyes*" both at the same time and you're kind of at a loss on which to believe.

LOVE STORY —

"stop trying to beat me, i'm the fastest runner here."
"yes. yes, you are the fastest."

in the year of 2015, yukhei was a freshman with big dreams of becoming an astronomer. not an astronaut, an astronomer. however, he wasn't just any freshman. no, this kid was one of the fastest 3200m runners in the graduating class of 2018, perhaps within the older hanyang students as well. he was the star, the one everyone strived to beat. boy has got mad speed and while people might've not known who he actually was, everyone has heard the name 'yukhei' aT LEaST once when it came to running.

approaching was the year of 2016. a pile of new freshmen were incoming and the pack of seniors were leaving. new freshmen meant new competitio and new runners to look out for. still, yukhei remained the untouched track king. while some freshmen (and even the upperclassmen) might've came close, there was only one runner who ran the two miles in the exact same time. and her name was ko haseon.

while yukhei and haseon don't have much history, they know each other and are completely aware of what the other is capable of. back in high school, often would they see each other compete their rounds. but it wasn't like they were actively watching and studying the other person's form and style. it was always girls vs. girls and boys vs. boys for 3200m. well, it still is but that's not what yukhei and haseon are competing against each other for. no, they're competing for the title 'hanyang's star track runner'.

in haseon's case, she didn't feel any major tension with yukhei. in fact, she didn't even want to compete with yukhei for the title. she came to haseon for the education, not because she heard yukhei was going to be there and wanted to get the chance to really show everyone who's on top. no, if that was her true intention, she'd be in a school specifically made for runners. the only one making the two competitors was yukhei. boy was heated. not only was he pressured from being the well-known track star but there was pressure on keeping the title as well.

as annoyed as he was with the arrival of haseon, he was actually kind of enjoying having someone that'll make him work harder. plus, not that he would ever admit it, but he liked teasing haseon and not having to really worry about hurting her.

"i don't know who's laptop this is but i think that person is really gonna need it so if it's yours, check with the cute, brown-haired, male barista."
"hi, thanks for not being a douchebag and keeping the laptop as your own. i don't see you though?"

haseon goes to café serio every day besides saturday, everyone who knows her knows that fact. they also know that she stays there until late and would suspect her to get tired of studying constantly. and they know that haseon will sometimes leave her laptop there because her brain is fried and she just wants to go home. but what they don't know is that her forgetting her laptop started some kind of penpal situation between her and another person.

long story short, haseon forgot her laptop on a friday night. the employees took it to the backroom to keep it safe as they were nearly done with closing up. on saturday, an employee who was not on shift the day before found the laptop in the backroom. not wanting to dismiss the fact that someone just left one of the highly needed school items, they stuck a sticky-note saying "i don't know who's laptop this is but i think that person is really gonna need it so if it's yours, check with the cute, brown-haired, male barista" and put it near the front counter.

the following day, when haseon came back early to the café, she was handed back her laptop with the sticky-note. obviously confused with who the 'cute, brown-haired, male barista' was, as there were only two employees she saw, haseon simply wrote back "hi, thanks for not being a douchebag and keeping the laptop as your own. i don't see you though?' and asked for the sticky-note to be given to the person who first wrote on it. little did she know that the employee she was looking for was yukhei.

"i see you like green pens."
"no, they're ugly."

"....?????? hope that was sarcastic."

to differentiate on who wrote what, haseon used a green pen to write and yukhei wrote with a blue one. they continued to write to each other and their notes got longer and longer. haseon kept with it because she liked getting to talk to someone without knowing who they are. yukhei didn't want to leave haseon unreplied to so he wrote back to her anytime she wrote to him. it was their own little thing that went on for about two months.

eventually, yukhei wanted to know who the person behind the paper(?) was. they've been talking for quite awhile and yukhei was not gonna let this other person go after he shared and told so much information about himself. so he asked her to meet up with him on saturday, during his shift because that worked best for him. haseon denied- why did he have to pick the day she doesn't go to the café? -but she said she'd meet up with him any other day. confused as to why haseon would say no to a saturday, the day everyone has off, he was actually okay with planning another time, though the two never got to it.

yukhei had to work an extra shift because he missed his last one. his manager was okay with it as café serio wasn't the most popular one near or on campus and yukhei was a hard-working kid. he chose tuesday as that was the quietest day for café serio. as his penpal has wrote to him before that she's there all days but satuday, he had high hopes of seeing her.

but when he walked in, all he saw was a scrubby haseon sitting in the corner table next to the window with all her textbooks, notes, and papers. most importantly, he instantly spotted a piece of lined paper with a green pen lying on top of it. not to be one to instantly jump to conclusions but yukhei was sure that haseon was the one writing to him. "green was an ugly color to most, no one uses green pens," he told himself. but he kept his newly gained knowledge a secret. he wasn't sure if he was ready to expose himself, even though he was just a couple of weeks ago.

"you know, you look really cute when you're all focused and determined."

"i mean, you see me like that at practice but i don't hear any compliments."

slowly but surely, the notes gradually stopped and actual interactions between yukhei and haseon grew. yukhei became much more open with the girl. on the other end, the new yukhei caught haseon by surprise. she wasn't used to yukhei actually spitting out other words besides "i'm gonna beat you" or "my time is gonna be better than yours".

yukhei did a lot of the talking at first. he was the one to initiate the conversation and keep the conversation going. haseon's guard was still up but she still replied and entertained the boy. yukhei worked more frequently and purposely came during the hours haseon was there. haseon's schedule didn't change. she still only came to the café to study, conversing with yukhei was just like a reward for her.

not only did yukhei and haseon interact in the café, but they hung out a lot outside of that time. they'd run together in the morning, stick near each other at practice, and even went stargazing every saturday. it was like they couldn't spend a second without each other- actually they can. haseon loves personal space.

it took awhile, but haseon was the first to realize her feelings for him. i mean, she'd been talking to yukhei via letters for two months and continued to talk to him- without knowing he was the one behind the notes -for another four months. she looked forward to seeing him at the café and spent her time chatting away rather than studying. until he stopped showing up.

"what happened to your lover boy?"

"i don't know. it's like he never existed."

he no longer came. his face was no longer the first one she saw upon entering the café. their conversations were no longer the thing that kept her sane during her study sessions. but it's not like she cared, right?

no, wrong. she cared a lot. she wondered and thought about him a lot. she still saw him at practice and around campus but it was awkward. and it wasn't only him she saw, but another girl leeching onto the boy. that just made haseon ponder even more about what went wrong and how she could solve the issue. but this wasn't a word problem from math. this was real life and no formulas were helpful.

so her solution was to isolate herself from everyone. everyone except her penpal- which is still yukhei but she still has no idea.

after receiving haseon's letter, he did not hesitate to send back one. yes, he knew it wasn't a good idea but he really really missed her. it was not the same with misun (the leech). he didn't click with misun like he did with haseon. he didn't feel at ease with misun like how he did with haseon. misun was just. not. haseon. but yukhei continued to let himself think misun was the one he liked, especially because he thought haseon was disinterested and distant.

haseon didn't exactly miss her penpal as much as her penpal missed her. her heart was still with yukhei and she couldn't just take it and place it with her penpal, even though they are the same person. she was confused, stuck, and stressed. is this how university love is supposed to feel like? is this how it's supposed to look like?

the two continued to talk over letters. it was a slow three weeks of writing to each other, back and forth. yukhei couldn't take it anymore. the atmosphere was not the "i can talk about anything with you" but rather "i'm telling you only 50% of my day and hiding the other 50%".

another week passed. within that week, yukhei broke it off with misun. he also asked haseon to meet him at that spot meant for stargazing. haseon was kind of spooked, honestly, but complied. the rest is up to you.

"i missed you."

".... ... .. . .... ... me too."

it's like the whole awkward phase of yukhei saying "sayonara" never existed and they are able to continue right where they left off.

haseon doesn't want to do anything with yukhei and yukhei has no choice but to live with that.

"but mr. astrologist, a capricorn and an aquarius only have a compatibility rate of 25%"

"where'd you find that?"

"not everything on google is true."

while the wounds are still fresh and open, both are willing to try and heal them.

"this is broken. we're broken and we haven't even dated!"

"can i fix it?"

"i don't know."

haseon is iffy and yukhei has to show her that he didn't just disappear and reappear to not stay in her life.

RELATIONSHIP STATUS — it's complicated. besides that, they're still friends who are in love with each other deep down.
