birth name chae haejin

nicknames
nabi literally translates to butterfly in korea. doyoung tries hard to perpertrate the name, much to haejin's annoyance. and why would \he do that? sm had decided to organize a trainee team outing to a butterfly park lmao. when they were there, the guide shared with them that butterflies only ate specific things. doyoung turned to her and said, "sure sounds like you," ever since then, haejin's name on his phone has been switched to 나비, much to her annoyance.
guruto  first given by chinese members in nct/ioa to describe her stiff personality. this is commonly usedin a phrase when haejin is being excessively stubborn and inflexible about things. this was originally started by the chinese member who called her a 木头 which is a word for being "dumb" or dense, even though it can be literally translated to wood. to make this concept easier for koreans/her to understand, they describe it as being groot from guardians of the galaxy. and from then, it has been an inside joke to "Stop being a groot" when she's a little slower - much to her annoyance, because she still doesn't understand the nickname lmao
god speed  a nickname gifted to her because she has a tendency of doing things very quickly, especially if she thinks that she is on a time crunch
otaku  lmao this is hands down the best way to trigger haejin - she used to love anime so much, it bordered onto obsession and then she grew out of the phase. but her younger brother still ocassionally takes stabs at it.

date of birth 23 august 1997 + 21 years old
birthplace seoul, s korea
nationality seoul, s.korea
ethnicity korean
occupation chae haejin
first year university -- majoring in korean literature
as much as she would like to think of herself as someone that would try to live responsibly and get a job - this isn't the reality. right now, she is currenly persuing literature in college much to the disapproval of her parents.

languages
korean (mother tongue)
being korean does not stop her from speaking in a confusing way - expect her to mix up pronouns, among other mistakes that only foreigners are supposed to make. however, in terms of the written word, haejin is eloquent
chinese (conversational)
even though conversational is stetching it by a mile - beom can barely greet herself awkwardly in chinese. she can somewhat make out sounds and the connection between chinese and korean but that's the most language lessons in sm could help her with.

Appearance
a coffee copy girl
haejin looks like a typical girl in korea: not something that would stand out of the crowd. put her in a company such as sm, and she would be concluded to look "modest" or "humble-looking" at best. she has been told by the public that her face is bigger than usual, and in order to soften her looks - she has turned to bangs. thus, her usual looks would be bangs with her long hair falling right over her shoulder.

your shoulders, knees and toes.
that being said -- in terms of appearance, her charm is a certain freshness that most people would agree comes only when you're young. her true charm are things that cannot be changed - namely, her proportions. despite standing only at 156cm and being relatively shorter than an average korean, haejin manages to pull most clothes off and receive various compliments for her legs.

style
fashion and passion - in korean, they are written the same way
haejin isn't going to lie - as someone slowly grows up, she also understands the need for style. she takes up plenty of time preparing - about a hour and half looking for the perfect outfit and doing her hair/makeup. even though to a bystander, they probably wouldn't think much of what she is wearing. as someone that is still growing up - haejin's style is ever changing. one day, she'll be out with a baseball cap and plain t-shirt tucked into a pair of shorts, another day she will pair culottes up with a formal shirt.

first rule of growing up: thou shalt not leave the house without lip tints and eyebrow pencils
ever since becoming a trainee, haejin has also become someone that is particular about the way she presents herself. she never leaves the house without at least filling in her eyebrows and spreading orange lip tint (even though let's be real, she can't leave the dorms without makeup tbh).

 she's a shooting   star

haejin has a rep of being vanilla: though pleasant to be around with, she often gets dismissed for being too boring. and then you get to know her - and suddenly, you realize why we don't judge people by their appearances. just like the appearance that she tends to convey, it wouldn't be wrong to call her stiff. but at the same time, she can be so difficult to understand and predict..
personality
we're only human, we need no reason
 reserved    stiff
plain jane, jane doe, a faceless in a sea of people - much like these names and her appearance suggest, most people tend to look at haejin and see right past her and for good reason. haejin's good-natured appearance and mannerisms seem to suggest a "vanilla" appearance: someone that is pleasant to be around with, but still seem too bland to have an interesting friendship with. she doesn't necessarily see herself as shy but many see her as being rigid and unmoving - a conversation with her is filled with awkward pauses, even with "louder" people. people get the idea that she seem to be resistant, though they aren't sure of what. thus, haejin is more often not dismissed as being "boring".

"tuesday seems a little hasty, wednesday feels a little weird
and i just don't like wednesdays"
 passive
the impression of rigidness doesn't end when you stop being friends with her though - you see it whether you are her mother, an acquaintances of 5 months or a friend of 10 years. as one slowly gets to know her - they realise the word passive could pretty much be the word invented to describe people like her. she speaks in a choppy, awkward manner and she isn't a demonstrative person. her hard-headedness is hidden behind words like "up to you", "anything," "i'm fine with whatever." you find out later, as you throw out several different suggestions that she is in fact not okay.
 critical
haejin isn't easy to please - a bone that her friends just love to pick on. haejin is easygoing - in theory, she can eat anything that you give her but in all honesty, she has an opinion about how everything is best done. tofu should be seared in one way - the ice shouldn't be too big. she pretty much excelled in korean literature because art mimics life. she manages to connect things in such a breathtaking manner when given the right type of subject but most of the time, its not a nice look. she applies her standards on pretty much everything - even people, which explains why her interpersonal relationships can suffer if this isn't kept in check
"oppa -" "did you lose your bus card again"
"..." "its the second time this month!"
"i'm still a strong independent woman." "i swear if you aren't a girl -"
 whimsical    childish / emotional
most people who arrive at the conclusion that haejin is just an awkward piece of wood would most likely get a rude awakening when she turns around and hits them with a complete curveball. while she just comes across as a slightly awkward teenage girl, the reality is messier than what she is willing to admit. emotions, being emotions, tend to be irrational. and while she does a good job in managing them, they still project and run wild in the form of whimsical behavior. expect her to make decisions that no one can wrap their head around.
 emotional    hot- temper
some things just do not mix well together: haejin's emotions and her temper is not something you want to trifle with. her temper is something akin to a volcanic explosion - she is both short tempered and hot tempered, and it isn't a pretty combination for others involved. for one, she tends to take a passive side during argument. but you should always be careful about what you say to haejin during an argument - whether or not she is within earshot because she is taking notes. she tends to hold grudges for grievances committed - especially if they are done without regards for the relationship.

when your heart is aching, when no one is by your side, just come here
 perceptive
though haejin is useless in all matters that are worldly and/or practical, she is surprisingly insightful. people are often surprised when haejin says something that hits right on the nail: most people don't really expect that out of her. haejin is surprisingly perceptive about a person and their motivations and can easily put two to two together. she is often the person her friends have tireless deep talks with people - she can usually sustain a "deep conversation" with no issue. haejin isn't afraid of intensity; and as some would come to realize, she is pretty intense herself.
 loyal
you can expect haejin to make a serious effort to keep to commmitments. and most of the time, when it comes to big things, haejin doesn't disappoint. haejin finds that after a while, people gravitate towards her. sure, haejin borders onto permissiveness. but haejin gets people - and she often sees that as power and she, doesn't at all try to weld it over people. so with her, there's no shaming, no "i told you so" (as much as she really wants to sometimes), no judgment, no "you should be better". sure, haejin criticizes. but even when she's picking at your flaws, you get the sense that she's just saying it and she doesn't expect or want you to change because friendship means love - and if you can't love them for who they are, then what's the point? haejin gives her friends room to grow. all is good and fine except for - maybe the only downside about this arrangement is that, she expects the same treatment that she gives to her friends .

stop, thoroughly observe the world. and then go your own way.
 principled   self centred
"even criminals have their code of ethics," is something that is pretty much drilled into haejin's brains. while she has her own flaws, haejin likes to see herself as a person with her own principles. on one hand, this helps to keep her uglier traits in line and on the other, it amplifies and worsens some of her other traits. while others might have an inkling of their "dos" and "don'ts", haejin finds herself thinking about this a fair bit.

everything haejin does and say revolves around one concept: herself. with other people, she tries to mind her own business. even when she is directly involved in things, there is something detached about her dealings. and the idea of "mind your own business" is a big reason why. haejin primarily puts the focus on herself - what does she want, what does she want to do. in her defense, its because she is the only thing that she can control. but receiving so many benefits from other people and etc - in a way, she can't really see other people at all.

likes
food  army stew, she is a big fan of anything soupy and hearty but army stew is so hearty and warm she usually gets cravings for it if she has had a bad day.
ice cream  vanilla ice cream, without a doubt. its sweet, but too sweet that it overwhelms her senses.
fruit  apples, she has a habit of eating it once a day
color  without a doubt - pink, because
number  2, she usually gets things in sets of twos.
artist  there's a long list - but she's a big fan of japanese alternative, pop rock music - asian kungfu generation and aqua timez are her favourite artists and she has them on repeat on melonmusic. she's a fan of swings and dpr live, as well.
most confident body part  she's been told that she has pretty long legs.
sports she actually lowkey enjoys captain ball
subject in school  korean literature because its right up her alley - its not rigid and answers aren't set in stone like mathematics but it still makes her think
season  spring because she is a hoe for cherry blossoms
accessory  she can't ever leave the house without her earpiece lmao she would combust into flames and die.

dislikes
food  the list goes on and on - but unexpected spiciness in food is a good way to kill her appetite, as well as seafood. she hates seafood - except for fish. she's good with fish.
ice cream  chocolate; its brown and its far too sweet.
fruit  pineapples because she doesn't like the color. what kind of fruit is yellow in color anyway
color  black and whites - a sure way to trigger the hell out of her is to get her to see a guy decked in all black and white because in her own words, "what is this, 2013?"
number  she hates numbers in general, but she really hates 7 because its greater than 5 and not an even number like 6.
artist  her manager says she's not allowed to talk about her music taste (usually though, she isn't a fan of music that is too much of anything)
least confident body part  her chubby cheeks - because she thinks they contribute to a wholesome, vanilla image
sports tbh she just hates sports in general
subject in school  mathematics because there are too much numbers and logic - it usually goes in one ear and comes out of the other.
season  winter - its way too cold.
accessories  bracelets or anything that is supposed to be on her wrist because they happen to be so thin, its impossible to get them to fit snugly.

fears
"one wrong slip and we can tumble down the moving steps of death" "you're exagerrating," " off."  one wrong slip and she could go tumbling down the moving stairs of death, in her own words. its usually entertaining to watch her pause a few moments to regain her footing - and she usually prefers to take elevators over anything, especially if she is wearing heels.
"its me, ya zombie," "what the f even"  she is usually game for horror movies - even though she is too much of a loser to properly enjoy them. but there's something so disgusting about zombies tearing into human flesh, she absolutely refuses to entertain the idea. as expected, she is teased to death about it.

hobbies
#filmisnotdead  a hobby that she picked up from her father, who was also a photographer back in the day when film photography was the thing. now, she still uses the SLR her dad gives her - even though she has very little understanding of film.
#spilled ink  she writes here and there - even though she is more of an avid reader than writer because she does not have much confidence in her own skills.
#journalsandfriends  it isn't uncommon to watch her collect scrap pieces of paper and pour through magazines - with remnants of glue on her hand as she hutches over her journal. this is her favourite way of passing time.

habits
one  prefers her nails to be cut short
two  when she's nervous she tends to press against nails
three  usually starts her mornings with a cup of instant tea

weaknesses
falling sick  don't bother trying to get her to do anything when she's feeling unwell - whether it be the common cold or whatever. while others can brave through the day with a stuffy nose, she would usually not even bother trying to do anything when she's sick.
stomach  she has an unusually weak stomach - though it hasn't always been this way. these days, she is usually careful with her diet and she tries not to drink milk tea etc because it usually provokes nausea.
poor stamina  she gets breathless easily; her stamina is weak and she has a harder time when they are forced to do physical trainings.

strengths;
unusually healthy  one thing she often takes advantage of is her health - she's unusually healthy and rarely ever falls sick.
lmao come back later lol

trivias
his manners are in havana  haejin's ideal type are gentle guys - most especially, guys with gentle eyes.

"noona i want to marry you" "that's teacher for you" she used to help out with her parents childcare centres and that's why she literally wants nothing to do with children

"why do they contradict too," "well, you are a contradiction so -" haejin's pisces rising and her scorpio moon tends to get in the way of her virgo sun and blends together in a rather rough manner - even though she often knows what is the right and responsible step to do, this doesn't necessarily make it her priority because she tends to live freely and in a whimsical manner. scorpio moon gives haejin the tendency to wrestle and fight for control over her feelings, that also happen to be intense asf.

turnt up for what im just looking for love haejin is a big fan of nightlife - and spends a little way too much time hanging out at night markets or at hongdae -- she usually gets free entrance to clubs because she only goes if there's a guestlist or if her older sister has a gig there.

chill out god speeed, this aint the apocalypse a habit cultivated from "holidays" with her parents which are basically her parents attending conventions overseas - she basically finishes her meals quickly and often finishes everything anxiously quicker than expected

trash but still the best she was and is still a big fan of shounen manga/anime, even though she is also getting tired of the troupes that go along with it.

"still waiting for my admission letter" "its been years its time to accept you're a muggle." a huge fan of harry potter - she was so in love with the series that she's been waiting for the admission letter since she was 10.

thrillseeker or suicidal haejin love rollercoaster and is known for taking them several times to try and conquer them lmao

basic white tastes grew up to basic white boys and loves herself some justin bieber, high school musical amonsgt other things..

power, poison, pain and joy in my dna
background
oo. my final love is still family
haejin was born sandwiched to a set of early childhood educators - chae minjun and jung aemin. as of right now, her parents runs a group of childcare centres in seoul, with her father being he director of the centres while aemin is the principal in their main centre. haejin has pretty much never been alone; having always been surrounded by things that resemble her family.

01. living inside a cctv camera
haejin's early years was spent in fear, to put the idea simply. while other children had the luxury of getting away from their parents' watchful eyes while growing up, haejin was placed in the same centre as her parents the second she was old enough. this meant that she was usually weary - and it showed because in those years, she was the least troublesome of her siblings.

she spent her earlier years torn between vying for her parents attention and affections and wanting some space from them - more importantly is, how does one come to terms with such feelings? needless to say, her parents were important influences during her early years.

it was during those formulative years that the chae parents encouraged their children to perform as a way of expressing themselves. they usually found themselves pulled out during mass dances - and this helped to encourage their love for music. while her elder sister and younger brother unabashedly love the attention, haejin found herself questioning herself.

02. this world is much colder than the one i felt when i lived with you.
in all honesty, haejin was always more sensitive than the chaes expected them to be. they eventually learnt that it was not something that haejin could grow out of, leaving the young parents at a loss because they were plenty of things and sensitive was not one of them. while haejin was young, they tried to shelter and help her ease into having a stronger mentality.

they worried about how haejin would cope with moving on to elementary school - and their worries were not uncalled for, because her younger years in elementary school were tough. haejin wasn't smart and her teachers had no qualms about pointing this out. it wasn't anything that couldn't be fixed - enrichment and tuition classes later, haejin managed to cope well with her studies. and as it turned out, her intelligence were more geared in a humanities direction - in particular, literature managed to engage her well. nonetheless, the damage was done. home, was thus, the centre of her universe, so to speak.

03. check in: jakarta, singapore, osaka
her parents always had strong educational ambitions and that didn't end even after having children. in fact, they would decide to bring their children with them. they actually happen to go overseas quite a bit for educational conferences. this trips lessened in frequencies when she started elementary school because they started applying for licensing for their centres. by the time the chae siblings reached high school, they found themselves helping out at their parents centres a lot - but mainly the main centres, where their mother presides as the principal.

04. whatever form i take, you will see me again
while her parents encouraged their children to perform - it was more because they know the benefits of self expression in young children - they just didn't expect it to take such a strong hold over them that all 3 of their children decided they would pursue music in some shape or form. in reality, the 3 siblings encouraged and fuelled their love for music - and music was the first step they took in learning how to negotiate. when they were younger, it was taking turns to play their music in the shared study room. as they got older, they were supportive of each other's choices - and even gave suggestions. the chae parents were not happy though - because like most parents, they really wanted their children to excel in their studies.

family

[ father ] chae minjun, 49, preschool director --
faceclaim, jungwoo
[ mother ] jung aemin, 48, preschool principal --
faceclaim, go ara
antisocial, extrovert
iindependent, avoidant minjung and neurotic, critical aemin are only the first things that are different. i could go on and on but the point is, they seem like a match made in hell initially. but they have always been very "us against the world", surprising one too many people with their unwavering, unified stand. at work, they are the icons of modern parenting done right. but they also happen to be traditional as well - wanting their children to go university and to find a proper path, so to speak.

power couples create power struggles
haejin's first challenge would always be her parents: she grew up being scared of them - partially because of their overwhelming influence in her life. as they grew up, she didn't really feel connected to her parents. sure, they were family but there was also an inability to communicate with one another that stunted their relationship for a bit. as parents, they didn't necessarily agree with haejin's decision to be a trainee. they also found themselves constantly fretting over her - even though they are not sure how to express their worries in an appropriate manner.

[ older sister ] chae haebin, 23, freelancer (deejay producer, model, live streamer)  --
faceclaim, dasom of sistar
we'll just have to win it over with courage
haebin is something for sure - freelancing as a deejay producer, model and a live streamer - haebin comes off as being superficial. a five minute conversation later, you'll come to realize that she is fiery. hard-headed and freedom loving, everything that haebin does is true to herself and what she believes in. its her way or no way so don't even bother trying to get her to listen. she treats life with the same attitude: thus, she always finds herself sticking out like a sore thumb in a crowd of followers. she does not mind the attention at all.

when things get tough, lean on me
haejin grew up not sure if she wanted to be like her - or if she didn't want anything to do with her. one thing that has yet to change was her admiration for haebin - even though haebin's job is less than savoury. they encouraged and inspired one another - it was haejin's willingness to take haebin seriously that encouraged haebin to make better tracks. and it was haebin that encouraged haejin to audition.

[ younger brother ] chae haechan, 18, part time student  --
faceclaim, subin of victon
i go where the money calls
"he's just like you," is what a lot of family friends tend to tell minjun and honestly, minjun doesn't recall himself ever being so stupid. except, haechan isn't exactly stupid. haechan's ambitiousness tends to project themselves in the form of making quick cash - reflecting his compulsivity and laziness (because he would much rather distribute music and risk jailtime rather than get himself a job at macdonald).

"why don't you get a job" "why don't you get in touch with reality"
haechan's relationshop with haejin and haechan has sinced evolved from es trying to reclaim territory. their personalities clash a lot when they were younger -- but this has since evolved into a respect and acceptance of one another's flaws. haechan often looks for haejin while she's training - they don't say it but they welcome one another because life is different without someone that opposes you just for the hell of it, even though they would rather die than actually admit it.
friends

im jungbin, 22, busker + student
faceclaim, heo chan of victon
"bin-ah, how are you going to get a girlfriend like this." "why are you always so full of ."
people are either intimidated of jungbin or they wanna fight him - there's usually no inbetween, even if there is. jungbin is pretty much a loner: doesn't like people, doesn't want anything to do with people and has no qualms about making this obvious to anyone that steps five feet into his personal bubble. but he manages to somehow get away with it because most people know how good he is.

your sense, manners - i see it all
their paths have always somewhat intersected: he was good friends with heochan who had somehow managed to worm his way into jungbin's life; they were in the same class for a couple of years in high school but no attempts were made to do anything more than acknowledge one another. it was only when the two started coincidentally training in the same company did they started talking. jungbin looks out for her quite a bit - going out of his way to take care of her and she inspires him to take his own music seriously - something that even he found it difficult to do. now that they have parted ways, its a little harder to make their friendship work but they are still in contact.

kim chulmin, 23, idol
group, honeyst of fnc
trope: he popular and handsome senior
handsome, well-mannered and smart: what is there not to love about kim chulmin? chulmin's personality is a balance between extroversion and introversion. chulmin is shy & somewhat softspoken but surprisingly, has no problem with being direct. most of the time though, he prefers a passive approach to matters. and people follow his leadership because of all things, he is definitely not bossy. he has amazing interpersonal skills: and he knows how to make anyone feel good about themselves without diminishing himself in any way. when they went out to eat with her family once, haechan was charmed by him.

"i am betting half of my mind on you
one of her first friends in fnc entertainment, and also one of the first few people that made her realize there was a big gap between what she wanted to achieve and what she could actually achieve in fnc entertainment. he caught her eye and though initially, he just wanted to "do a good deed' for someone that he also happened to find attractive. during her time in fnc, he went out of his way to coach her vocally, made her feel comfortable in an unfamiliar environment and was all around, a perfect senior. some of it was personal - he did enjoy her company and when she left fnc, he was lowkey devastated by it. he sort of likes her - sort of.

jung yoomun, 21, sm trainee
faceclaim, yein of lovelyz
trigger warning: everything
like clear glass, yoomun's feelings are often on display for everyone to see. if she's mad, you will know and usually, this isn't a cute display. most people assume the mistake that yoomun is nothing but a really pretty face - but they get to know her and they are shocked by the difference between their impressions and her reality. she works hard, and doesn't at all take advantage of her looks. her work ethics are something makes her respectable even though her temper is really not something you want to mess with

"shut up, i'm your person."
what started out as a friendship of convenience blossomed into a true love - their friendship is akin to swiping right on tinder and finding the love on your life. haejin really wasn't expecting it - and thus treasures her friendship with her. they met the first day of training and basically became friends because training with a friend is just easier. haejin and yoomun's personaltiy tends to clash - with yoomun being far more straightforward. yoomun isn't a fan of haejin's subtle personality and the misunderstandings it caused. but then, these days, their relationship manages to strike a thin balance of "tell it for what it is" and gentleness because they listen to each other lmao.

seo nana, 21, sm trainee
faceclaim, yujin of clc
stop making that sad face like you are a victim
seo nana always has something in her life: always a birthday present she has to go out and buy, a recital she has to attend. nana's life is packed to the brim with events and plans - she tends to be generous with gifts and showering affection onto others. she has a tendency of shouldering responsibilities - she finds herself in charge of planning for events and whatnot. on the surface, she's completely different from haejin. until she starts to feel overwhelmed as the deadline approached - and then nana is vicious, snapping and breaking down at every turn.

you hate what you see in the mirror
to put it in one word, they are frenemies - its much too troublesome and awkward to get rid of her as a friend, so they just leave this friendship standing awkwardly on a empty shelf. although they seem completely different, haejin and nana can actually relate well to one another's personality because their mindsets align well. but despite that, haejin still tends to put her guard up because she doesn't want to deal with a overwhelmed, pissy nana.

opinion on nct members
taeil
 acquaintances

i hide behind closed doors and postpone all answers
haejin has a ridiculous schoolgirl-esque crush on taeil. she likes how he seems so gentle and demure. she manages to conceal her affection for him well - treating him like how she treats every other person in nct, except if only she is more willing to listen to him. they socialize mainly in clusters - and though they click well, their conversations tend to be superficial at best.
JOHNNY
 acquaintances

sunflowers still grow at night
she looks up to johnny because they share similar hobbies - its pretty easy for them to maintain a conversation based off their tastes and what they like to do etc. they have a relationship much akin to school friends: you share the same space for 8 hours so you build a shaky friendship based off that. but johnny's humor can be a little hard for haejin to understand and they do better socializing in groups.
TAEYONG
 acquaintances

"are you sure you don't like him" "ffs" she shrinks away uncharacteristically wherever taeyong is away - leaving people clueless for the sudden change in behaviour. doyoung - then took the chance to play wingman at every opportunity he gets (but that's a story for another day). their interactions are rather awkward - and they usually struggle to hold a conversation with one another.

YUTA
 friends

"i miss japan" "you're not even japanese"
yuta and her are comfortable with one another. though affectionate with one another, this is expressed through bickering and arguing. yuta often sees her as a female version of winwin - and looks out for her. she sees a lot of her father in him - and doesn't hesitate to call him out on it. but in group settings, she tends to hold back for fear of annoying others.
DOYOUNG
 close friends

love-hate relationship, you say you can't handle it
on one hand, they bicker endlessly - and they share drinks at the same time. no one understands what the hell is going on with this two but everyone has an idea (except for them - they have no idea what is going on).
TEN
 acquaintances

""wait so is your name ten chipotle - like after the sauce" "what the "
they look like they get along. but then again, their interactions are limited to bigger groups where there are other people around to take over. they have fond impressions of one another and get along well because they take turns to pick on doyoung together. its easy for them to maintain a conversation if they have a common topic - but then common topics are hard to come by.

KUN
 friends

"haejin-ah, why"
kun thought that she was a foreigner tbh. similar to yuta, kun sees remnants of winwin in her. because of that, he instinctively looks out for the younger. she doesn't disappoint with her antics. unsurprisingly, though, she has a way of testing his patience. no matter how much he is pushed though, he never gets mad with her and remains gentle with her (something that she honestly appreciates).

it started when jaehyun first introduced himself to haejin as jeffrey. for a good half year or so, she basically called him jeffrey. their relationship is mainly jaehyun laughing at a really clueless haejin. she doesn't understand half the inside jokes that they make with one another and he finds it funny to provoke such a reaction out of her.
WINWIN
 close friends

dumb  & dumber
the two have fond impressions of one another - but mainly because their personalities are compatible with one another. she can relate well to the struggle of being looked after by others and doesn't give winwin grief when he can't seem to get words right. winwin ends up taking care of her in tiny ways - and likes feeling competent. their friendship operates on the unspoken condition that they take care of one another without making it obvious.this makes it easy for them to open up with one another - and win win happens to be one of her closest friends. /whispers winwin knows about her crush on taeil

JUNGWOO
 acquaintances

"i hate talented people" "but noona do you hate me?""wait what"
its hard not to adore jungwoo with his doe eyes and that dreamy looking smile. she has a good impression of him and tries to look after him (it usually doesn't work out well because she has little to no experience taking care of people. + he gets doted on enough by other people as it is). he still enjoys the mildly stunned reaction he gets out of her when he comes swinging with a random line directed at her affection for him
LUCAS
 acquaintances

like jungwoo, but more annoying
most of the time, their interactions happen wherever jungwoo is around. so in her head, jungwoo and lucas already comes in a set - like a buy 1, get 1 free set. lucas is a little jarring for jungwoo at first - and she found it difficult to get used to his direct approach. he has a habit of mocking her interactions with jungwoo by attempting to copy his "noona", albeit in a more in-your-face manner. she likes talking to him if only because he doesn't seem affected by her when she disses him back.
MARK
 acquaintances

its a long ride
she's really confused about mark - hard not to like him because he always greets her, but its hard not to be intimidated of him because he is a member in all 3 units of NCT and he always works so hard, he makes her want to work a little harder sometimes. their interactions are limited to pleasantries because he is almost always busy with promotions of some kind but when they gather - she is most fond of mark.

RENJUN
 acquaintances

too young to be this serious, huh
renjun often puts haejin to shame - because while haejin chooses what she puts her effort into, renjun always works hard. though they aren't close or speak much (haejin isn't close to the members in dream), she has a positive impression of kind-looking renjun that always works hard.
JENO
 acquaintances

we can sit down and be boring together
they are often lumped together as being boring af - but they can relate to one another's position pretty well. in a group setting (where they usually interact), they tend to be on the same side and find themselves on the same team. she honestly wouldn't mind being placed in the same room with him alone because they enjoy a comfortable silence.
HAECHAN
 friends

"is the name haechan cursed" she was so triggered when she heard the name haechan because she thought that her stupid younger brother had done it - again. she's fond of haechan, but that's also because she sees a lot of her younger brother in him. but she tends to hide these behind savage remarks and he isn't afraid to retaliate , tbh.  haechan also knows that she has a crush on taeil.

JAEMIN
 acquaintances

"he's so bright and sparkly"
their interactions are limited to the short duration where they were both smrookies - and tbh, she doesn't know much about him other than the supposed bright and sparkly image that he has painted of himself. but boy, is he all bright and sparkly. s
cHENLE
 acquaintances

he's the boy that laughs like a dolphin???
as with the case with most of dream, she isn't really close with them. she knows that he is the boy that is supposed to laugh like a dolphin - but she's never seen him make that laugh, so - y'know. he seems polite and amiable and they smile at each other every now and then
JISUNG
 acquaintances

"children these days  -"
jisung and her are comfortable enough that she has been the target of his mean-ness but most of it is in good fun. their interactions are incredibly limited tho due to promotions and her not being too close to anyone in dream, really.

over on the air wave
stage name beom
derived from the korean word for spring. when they started thinking of stage names, she wanted to settle for haejin but sm thought it sounded too messy. thus, they decided on beom which also meant spring. they wanted to bank in on her youthfulness, basically.

persona the butterfly effect
this was started by doyoung - and then pushed by everyone who basically agreed with him. this is used to describe her tendency to kill the mood with her pickiness.

position lead vocalist, dancer
plotline jungwoo

vocal twin ryu sujeong of lovelyz
a voice like cotton candy her voice has a tendency of sounding sweet - though just like cotton candy, one can get pretty sick of it pretty quickly.

dance twin kim sohye of ioi
traffic light number ii she is considerably slower than peers in picking up the supposed dance choreography and thus, she needs a lot of time to adjust to it - which is frankly her biggest problem. she remains pretty stiff - and really needs a lot more time than the rest to master choreography.
.
rap twin ryu sujeong of lovelyz
rapping: sm style she only raps as a form of gag - she has no skills, no techniques, no nothing. its so bad, she basically only raps to make fun of herself.

variety twin yoo jiae of lovelyz
sit down, don't say anything tbh, she is a mix between irene and jiae. contrary to her cute appearance, she is more laidback and doesn't fight for Screentime. she might talk more on shows specially for IOA but in variety shows, she tries not to draw attention to herself.

talking twin yoo jiae of lovelyz
"wow your voice is -" "deeper than expected? okay can we move on now?" there is a discrepancy between her speaking voice and her singing voice: one that people often voice out. that is because her speaking voice is a lot deeper than one would expect - and while most people mean it positively, she usually takes it the other way and tries to brush it off as quickly as possible.
training years
2012 to 2014 fnc entertainment
2014 to 2017 sm entertainment

training life
fnc ent: "i worked like a ing animal in there it wasn't humane at all"
was scouted by a representative of fnc ent when she helped out at the annual year end concert at her parents childcare concert. she managed to clear the audition rounds easily - though not without them making it clear that she had real work cut out for her.

evaluations-wise, she didn't fare too well honestly. she had a positive impression of her company and thus, worked hard to try and prove herself. her coaches didn't spare her feelings and were quite harsh with their feedback towards her. and though this discouraged her, she also used their comments as motivation to work harder.

what made haejin change her opinion of fnc entertainment? the grapevine. there were rumors of fnc signing on big name MCs and actors, established artists were dissatisfied with the company. It soon clicked that she didn't have a shot in fnc entertainment and that she had pretty much been wasting her time in fnc. it pissed her off even more that there didn't seem to be anything that she could do about it.

until sm came swooping in like a knight in white.

sm ent: "more trouble than she was worth tbh"
she clearly was not thinking straight when she auditioned for sm while she was still a trainee in fnc ent. it was just for the hell of it - she did npt think that she would actually make the cut. until she found herself accepted into sm ent - her parents begrudgingly paid off the contract terms that she had violated and that was a done deal. she was officially a sm trainee.

she was a different person in fnc / sm. while she was a lot more serious and uptight in fnc, she basically took her trainee career in sm seriously for like 10 seconds before she got too comfortable. and tbh, she got tired of caring. she only practiced and thought about improving during evaluations and she slacked off a decent bit.

surprisingly, she had a better and relationship with her coaches in sm ent than in fnc. partially because in fnc, she was always rigid and came off negatively to her coaches. in sm, she had a tendency of being more bold. this, though, might come off as being rude to certain trainees. some people did not appreciate the extra competition, as well.

predebut experiences
smrookies debut she debuted as a member of smrookies in the june of 2016.

idol life
introducing: guruto-kun
your life as an idol tends to build around the image given to you. and to be honest, she really liked the image given to her. and though it was not easy to accept, she has come to terms with how the intended image that slowly been replaced with the image of a lump of wood. her image has evolved from a youthful girl with the freshness of spring - to someone of an awkward nature. on one hand, its endearing. but with the love she received, she is also mae the of one too many memes on various mediums.

you can't win in this world tbh
she knows that she got lucky with sm ent - what were the chance of someone like her making a debut? in fact, her idol career started negatively. other than facing the doubts of other trainees in sm, the general public also doubted her character and sm's decision to include her in the roster.

sipping apple juice, watching sing street
something that she obviously enjoys about being the sister group of nct? the one too many opportunities to travel overseas. though awkward with the members in ioa, getting on a plane puts her in such a good mood. partially, its also because back in fnc, opportunities like this are basically null. as far as she was concerned, she was sort of living in a dream but with some obvious drawbacks.

"but a radio show -" "i said no for the millionth time,"
she isn't really known to be the most talented idol around, obviously. but something that she has been pushing for are opportunities to be in radio shows. sm has been denying such opportunities because tbh, sm doesn't trust her when she talks. her favourite part of being an idol is the vlives and guest-starring on radio shows

.
personal life
a severe case of middle child syndrome
being the middle child to a set of educator has its cons  - haejin's childhood was surrounded by children. haejin grew up feeling overlooked by her parents and this resulted in a sense of alienation and insecurity that she is unable to shake off. she often brushes off affection directed in her attention and has a tendency of not "seeing" the effort that people put into her. unless the other party told them expressly verbalizes something, its out of sight & mind.

big cars, big rings but you have no dreams
if you ask haejin what she wants to do in the future, you'll get this look of uncertainty that is disguised poorly. haejin is pulled in one too many diections and doesn't have the confidence to settle down on just one path. but other than not being able to choose a life path to follow, haejin is also unable to make up her mind about anything and anyone. she's wishy-washy and indirect and lmao its frustrating.

i want to be loved, but you don't seem to love me.
i wander aimlessly within that repetition
she has an odd relationship with closed ones - they obviously like each other, but she dismisses their importance in her life. this applies for even her parents - who are not as sensitive as her. her peculiar relationship is sure to raise eyebrows even amongst people around here. she has a problem acknowledging the need to love and to be loved - and wants to remain detached from people. but on the other hand, she also wants the approval of her parents about her decision to be an idol.

even if i'm scared, even if i get hurt,
i want to say i love you to the person i love
she has a problem acknowledging emotional vulnerability. though she isn't at all obvious about it, she has a hard time being emotionally honest with loved ones. this can get taxing on the people around her..

drama
#01 -- lines don't keep people out, they cage you in
i can see haejin's interactions with her groupmates being superficial or being one-sided. as in, someone thinks they are close with haejin while haejin remains somewhat detached from them. which is perfectly fine in most contexts - until they argue and haejin is unwilling to talk about what is wrong and what she really feels. she finds things like interventions stupid and i think it could destroy group morale.

#02 -- "haejin, its chuseok." "i don't know."
when the scandals of her siblings came out, it hit her pretty hard. her whole family was just like any family - and it has its own idiosyncrasies amongst other things. she felt that if she hadn't been an idol, things would have been easier for her family and she avoided going home for a while because she didn't know how to face her parents.

scandals
sm's special treatment to ioa member -- pann article
if everyone had to be honest, she wasn't too bad. but at the same time, there are trainees that have worked harder and have stronger talents. after finding out that she was scheduled to debut, there are common concensus that she seems much more serious than they had expected her to be. she stayed back later to work on choreographies and the songs.

smrookies beom caught in a night club??
her sister had a gig at a popular nightclub that night and her sister had invited her to come watch - with guestlists and all. she had sneaked out - much against the better judgment of the management. though they defended her and released a statement explaining what really had happened, knetz were all like "but what the is her sister working at a nightclub for".

are we allowing the parents who raised these children to raise the future generation of korea??
eventually, articles of haebin and haechan surfaced. haechan was exposed to have distributed music illegally through the use of thumbdrives (inspired by gdragon). haebin was also called several different names for working at night clubs articles surfaced about her parents and their occupations, and it was quite a headache for everyone involved. nonetheless, haejin felt awful even though she didn't really talk about it much.

ioa haejin is awkward with ( names )
being a newer member in ioa as compared to the rest, there is a more than obvious gap. that much is obvious to anyone with eyes. haejin struggles to open up to the other girls in ioa - and her personality makes it easy for conflicts to leak out longer than expected. i would expect articles to come out - especially w her relationship with taeyong.

q&a: hundred seconds with beom
hey there! could you please introduce yourself to the viewers!
"like - to the camera? okay - can someone tell manager-nim to stop glaring at me." she says, sounding flustered. she takes a good look at the camera, giving it a small smile, "hello everyone, my name is beom."

so i'm going to ask you a series of questions asked by fans. uh, are you ready?
she nods fervently, looking really determined,  "let's go."

what would you be if you weren't an idol?
"what would i be if i weren't an idol?" she repeats the question, eyebrows furrowed, "i'll be looking after children," she smiles a little before observing the look on the cameraman's face. "oh wait - that doesn't sound. i mean, i'll be helping out with my parent's childcare centre."

ahem - would you marry me?
there's a sheepish look on her face before breaking out into a small laugh, "me? that's funny."

these questions are really something... um, do you ever read fanfictions of yourself?
"fanfics?" there's the thoughtful look on her face, "that's really something," she says. she laughs as she says, "not really - are they any good?"

i know a lot of your fans are curious about your ideal type, could you tell us?
"someone that loves me like the fans do?" she laughs after the thought, "someone mature and quiet - with the feeling that a sunbae can give you."

out of curiosity, what are you currently obsessed with?
"i have been pretty obsessed with drawing reference books." she says with an embarassed laugh, "i was recently at a bookshop and i bought a couple home. i have been drawing in my sketchbook ever since," the cameraman looks impressed, "its nothing good though - i've just started after all."

oh, this is juicy, could you tell me anything about your romantic life?
"i wish i had a romance life," she laughs, "the only people that love me are my family and my fans,"

on a serious note, how do you feel about being part of ioa?
do you like the concept?
she looks over at the manager who shrugs right back at her. she looks at the camera with a shaky smile, "i didn't think that i would be able to debut so i'm grateful for the opportunity i'm given. its a new concept and it will take some getting used to."

thank you so much for the interview, do you have anything that you would like to say?
"some of these questions are really something, but thank you for the love everyone!"

like a clear glass bead
doyoung radiates sunlight and fairy dust especially in a room filled with people. being an extrovert, doyoung does best with people. he learns better if he can bounce ideas off with someone else. being an extrovert, he enjoys the time he spends with other people and knows how to make people fit right in. because of this, doyoung is pretty much "what you see is what you get," sure, he has certain limits but doyoung isn't the most guarded person. he ends up sharing a big part of his life with his friends - because its easier to talk to people when you already have a connection with them.
.
doyoung @ everyone and their mothers: "what tthe hell is wrong with you"
doyoung usually takes a straightforward approach to matters. people know him for his open and communicative personality. he means no harm, but he also lacks a filter. friends feel it enjoyable to press his buttons just to see what they can get out of it.

i may be nice but i have an ego
honestly, doyoung has a tendency of letting people "get away with things". people enjoy getting a rise of doyoung just for the heck of it sometimes - but when it comes down to it, doyoung does have an ego. there are some things that friends know enough not to press. and some things that are just out of bounds - no questions asked. doyoung takes prides in certain things - and whatever passion he dedicates himself to, he does everything he can to be good at.

they say it hurts because its youth his emotions tend to be his biggest strength and his biggest pitfall. doyoung likes to see himself as being consistent and transparent - but tbh there are some things that even he finds difficult to cope with. being one of the elder members, he likes to think that he is mature. but feelings aren't always mature and he finds himself acting in ways to cover up various vulnerabilities.

love story

interactions
pushing and pulling, you're so ambiguous
they deal with their relationship a lot like children. placing them in the same room is a bad decision to make offscreen because they are almost always at each other's necks. their actions and their words are not in sync - because even though they bicker nonstop, they would do it while sharing a banana milk. its easy to just brush off their relationship as a tom & jerry relationship - especially because the highlight of the relationship is basically how they try to verbally tear each other down. but there are several times where their bickering is their own way of communicating and brainstorming with one another. they don't really take what the other party say to heart - and in fact, its nice to be able to speak comfortably with the other party. there is no need for honorifics, no need to pretend. a lot of times, the other party is a catalyst for provoking ephiphany. no one really understands how or when - but they know the spark when it happens.

like the moon that centres around you
haejin and doyoung tends to hover around one another, a lot. this is much less evident and obvious now that they both have individual schedules but they pay attention to one another. haejin, at least, is aware when his team is performing and would somehow be there. she tends to take a more subtle approach of a "i'll just coincidentally show up and not talk about it at all" while doyoung is more straightforward. during their training years - if one is in the practice studio, the other would coincidentally be there. and while it is in doyoung's nature to care about people enough to know where his friends are at - it looks quite suspicious on haejin's part because y'know, haejin doesn't care.

1-4-3 ( i love you ), i still can't say it comfortably
another important aspect of their relationship is ineffective communication, which is an oxymoron because as i said, they communicate best with one another. or at least, haejin feels comfortable enough with doyoung. they even have their own way of communicating with people. and yet, they are also unable to adequately express themselves. these tend to rear its ugly head when someone has doyoung's attention, or vice versa. they tend to resort to childish, primitive methods to show their jealousy because, yes, they do get jealous. haejin is definitely more lowkey about it because she gets that rationally, she doesn't really have a claim over him. she tends to avoid him, giving him the cold shoulder every time she feels she doesn't have much of a position in his life. similarly, doyoung does the same thing - except that, he shows his jealousy by reveling in her discomfort.

when the lights start flashing like a photobooth
in front of the camera and the public eye, haejin tends to shrink away from the relationship. sure, she still does not hesitate to complain about doyoung and his childish antics to people that are around the vicinity. but she also prefers to keep their relationship professional. she is very good in separating church from state in that sense.

"I was average I guess"
"I didn't think you're average"

relationship status
be your shelter, be your storm
their friendship is adamantly stuck in the same stubborn place of being friends. sometimes - too many times than they are willing to admit, they fantasize about being more. after all, it feels right. they feel comfortable around one another, they like one another. everyone can see it, they feel it. but yet, there are always reasons, excuses. they are stuck in the same place, wanting more but unable to move forward.
