Survey Findings So Far
I'm still waiting to receive some more responses since 62 isn't exactly a great representative number for all the users on AFF, but in case you are curious, here are some key findings:
1. Unsurprisingly, 95.1% of the participants were female. Shout-out to the three boys who took my survey! Keep on truckin'.
2. Unsurprisingly, AFF users are pretty young. The largest age group was 15-21-year-olds at 62.3%. The second largest at 22-25-year-olds at 21.3%
3. Most people read fanfiction either in the evening or late at night. 37.1% said that they read in the evening, and 40.3% said they read late at night.
4. Most people are comfortable reading chapters that are give-or-take around 3000 words. 32.3% said they like long chapters (3k-5k) and 19.4% said they preferred medium (1k-3k). 33.9% however said that they really don't have a preference.
5. Story description is extremely important! 75.8% of people said that when they are looking for a new story (disregarding fandom/genre/ship), they pay the most attention to the story's description. The second biggest category was number of upvotes/subscribers/views/comments, with 16.1% of participants saying that they pay most attention to those numbers.
6. Story visuals are somewhat important, but not by that much. 54.8% agreed that they appreciate a story with a poster and background, but that the story is ultimately what matters. 41.9% said that they don't care about visuals at all or are completely neutral to them.
