Origin story

the porter twins, elizabeth and emma, have been orphans since the day they were born. their mother, caroline porter, had died in childbirth, and their father was a no-show. as you may know, orphans are stuck in an ophanage, and that was the twins' life for five years. everything changed in one faithful day. a woman who introduced herself as miss anna visited the quaint little orphanage the twins were staying at. she was a pretty woman, couldn't have been older than thirty. she met with the owner of the orphanage, to adopt one girl from the orphanage. while it wasn't commonplace that a lady would suddenly adopt a child without any prior meetings, none of the staff minded. after all, the orphanage was all but bursting with unadopted children, and every year, it just gets more crowded. by some of luck (or misfortune, you decide) elizabeth was selected. just elizabeth. emma, not entirely understanding the concept of her sister getting adopted, didn't put up much of a fuss, but elizabeth has always been the astute one between the two, gave a fight when it was time for her to leave. she thrashed, screamed, and did everything she can so she wouldn't be separated from her other half. alas, there is only so much a five year old do against an adult.

let's pan over to miss anna a bit. just who is she? well, for starters, anna isn't her name. not her real name anyway. miss anna, isn't just some old maid that just wanted to adopt a child. no, she's much more than that. she's the director of an elite group of assassins, the shadow league. it's not a large group, with only twenty people that's officialy part of the league, with elizabeth being the twenty-first. every few years, the director or one of the other members, adopt a child from an orphanage (anywhere in the world) to train to be part of the league. after all, they need fresh meat if they don't want to die out. why did they choose elizabeth? why not any of the other children in the orphanage? simple, they could control elizabeth by threatening her twin if elizabeth chose to disobey (at least in the beginning, when recruits are still unwilling). then why not her identical twin, emma? the same tactic would work with the younger twin, if not more effective than otherwise. well, they tend to favour first borns, despite elizabeth being only fifty minutes older. and so, elizabeth was brought to russia to start her training.

five years. in five years elizabeth porter was torn down, and rebuilt into elizabeth makarova, the master assassin. she underwent intensive training every single day of those five years, and every single day, they reinforced the idea of elizabeth makarova, and destroyed the memory of elizabeth porter. they almost succeeded. whille the majority of what elizabeth porter was destroyed there's one aspect of her that stayed, even with elizabeth makarova. it was her other half, emma porter. no matter how much elizabeth porter was beaten out of her, she could never forget emma. eventually, emma became her driving force, the reason she's still going. when things are getting difficult, she would think of emma and she'll get the strength she needs to get through the obstacles her way.

at ten years of age, elizabeth was a full-fledged assassin. trained in multiple variations of combat and espionage. but before she could be sent out to accomplish missions, she had to go through the graduation ceremony. a battle to the death with a fellow recruit. if that wasn't terrible enough, the one who she battled was the person she was closest to in the league. a thirteen year old boy who's name was constantine. they weren't really as close as emma and elizabeth were, but then again, the league had a way of making one asocial, but they were at least a little bit close. the battle lasted about thirty minutes, the two matched perfectly. until elizabeth got distracted for a split second, and constantine took advantage of that momentary distraction. constantine could have easily killed elizabeth then and there, but he hesitated, slightly unwilling to kill the person who had been the closest friendly figure in his years training. his hesitation was his downfall. elizabeth quickly noticed his hesitance, and with a few precise moves, he dropped to the ground, dead. elizabeth merely stared as they took away, eyes devoid of emotion, her conscience withouth a trace of guilt or remorse. after all, she was an assassin.

the shadow league were, in a word, mercenaries, on siding where the money is. it's basically like a school to train assassins, and after they graduate, they're free to do what they want. of course, they have an obligation to return to the league when summoned, but other than that, they're free. the catch is they're branded for life. mentally, and  literally. after graduation, the logo of the league is burnt somewhere on their bodies. some go for more visible places, after all, the shadow league is an elite group, and their logo is known amongst the people. showing their branded skin would warn their enemies, and show that they're dangerous. elizabeth had hers burnt at the back of her hand.

after graduating, elizabeth took on job after job, every time doing better than the last mission. her name incresingly getting more and more popular in the underworld after every successful mission. eventually, she was known throughout the upper echelon as the assassin with the perfect track record. an unstoppable force. rumbra, the red shadow. elizabeth was eighteen by then, and has long since moved from russia to new york, but then again, an assassin has no permanent home.

elizabeth was twenty years old when she saw her twin sister again. of course, she had been keeping tabs on emma porter since she was fifteen, occasionally checking on her and seeing if she's safe. but this time, she hadn't checked on her twin for a while. mostly because she was in the middle of a four month long mission. elizabeth was surveying a university in paris. it was called école nationale supérieure des beaux-arts. elizabeth saw emma before the latter saw her. god knows elizabeth wasn't ready to see her twin again in the flesh. sure, it's been a decade, but the assassin wasn't ready to face her. so elizabeth quickly finished the mission, and left france. turns out, her younger twin had gotten a scholarship to the prestigious school in the architecture academy.

now here she is, reading a letter---an invitation. the fact that the letter found her was impressive enough for her to accept the invite.

important relationships

sophie turner cause identical twins duh
emma porter | younger twin sister

it's been sixteen years since the two of them have been separated, but neither of them forgot the other. once can't just forget the person one's shared a womb with. emma is now an architecture student in a fancy academy in paris, and elizabeth occasionally checks on her in varying methods (but mostly online). elizabeth still cares for her deeply, though she would deny it verbally. if elizabeth has a weakness, it's definitely her twin.

eva green
miss anna | mentor

miss anna was elizabeth's mentor, and elizabeth was anna's best student. anna moulded elizabeth into the perfect killing machine. there is not really much interactions between the two of them, especially since elizabeth moved out of the league, but elizabeth holds a lot of respect for her mentor, and anna recognizes elizabeth's skills

trivia

— elizabeth hides the brand in her hand with gloves. scarcely will she be seen without her trusty gloves. it's just a pair of fingerless gloves, made of basically indestructible material, of course.
— she's not very expressive. it would be pretty difficult to get a reaction from her.
— she doesn't eat much. she's used to eating small portions
— she doesn't get drunk easily. part of the training in the league is being able to handle copious amounts of alcohol
— she refuses to talk about herself and her past
— she speaks in a monotone as to not betray emotion
— elizabeth is a woman of few words
— when she speaks any language, she takes great care in making sure her accent sounds native to the place she's currently in
— she prefers to fight with just her body, not using a weapon, but she can still use most known weapons

Alright. Good morning, my name is agent cameron adams with the united nations. my specialty is in military psychology, so i'm here to determine if you'll be a good fit for our project. Now, Can you tell me about yourself?

"elizabeth makarova, but you already knew that," elizabeth said in a steady tone. she paused for a moment, hesitant to talk about herself. "i trained in the shadow league in russia for five years, starting when i was five years of age. i'm a mercenary, specialising in espionage and assassination."

i understand that you have some special... abilities. Can you describe what those are for me?

"like i mentioned earlier, i trained in the shadow league," she said. "during my five year stay, i've been trained in the arts of assassination and espionage, among other things." she stopped speaking, but agent adams was still looking at her expectantly. "i mastered the ways of disguising oneself to maintain anonimity. i can enter all high security buildings in half an hour without setting a single alarm. looking around this room, i can find thirty two creative ways to kill you silently in the span of five seconds. fifty seven, if you include methods that would create noise. would you like me to continue?" elizabeth asked agent adams, who was increasingly looking more uncomfortable.

do you have any weaknesses that i should know about?

elizabeth bristled slightly, the movement too little for agent adams to see. the image of her younger twin flashed in elizabeth's mind. elizabeth bored her startlingly blue eyes at the agent, making the already uncomfortable agent more uncomfortable. "why should i tell you?" elizabeth's voice was low and full of venom, a stark contrast to the steady tone she spoke in normally. "so you could easily eliminate me when i become expendable? no thank you agent adams."

What would you consider your "origin story"?

"why do you find so much enjoyment in asking questions that i've already answered?" elizabeth asked, voice returning to it monotony.

"at five years old, i was recruited to train in the shadow league by our director. i trained in the shadow league in russia for five years. after graduating from the league i took on jobs ranging from assassination, to long winded missions involiving copious amounts of espionage. now i'm sitting in frontof you, answering invasive questions."

(a/n i'm sorry this is so short, but it would be ooc for her to talk her past too much)

Can you tell me about your family, friends, and work or school relationships? anyone important or close to you in your life, really. There's a confidentiality agreement at stake, here.

"i have no parents. my mother died in childbirth, and i never knew who my father is," elizabeth said. "i have a twin sister," she said slowly, already regretting mentioning her only weakness to a stranger. if agent adams noticed her reluctance to tell about her sister, he didn't react. "but i haven't  spoken to her in over a decade. i have no personal relationships with anyone as it would be a hindrance to my work."

is there anything or anyone in your life, past or present, that may compromise you or project hero in any way?

"i'm a mercenary," elizabeth said simply. "hired  arms,  if you will. i hold no loyalty to this project, or anthing in this world, really. you should keep an eye on me, to see if i'm going to betray you and your little heroes at the sight of a larger pay."

"in fact, it's a wonder why you would hire me, an assassin/spy to play hero because everyone who knows my name knows i'm not."

let's change the subject. what can you do for project hero?

"anything you, or your boss wants," elizabeth said truthfully. "you're the one who hired me, and as long as you keep paying, i will kill anyone,  go and find information from the most secure database, infiltrate the pentagon, anything. i'll even play your hero."

how do you work best? do you prefer working in a team or alone?

"i work alone."

you're one of very few to get to this stage of screening to be a hero. Why didn't you reject our invitation?  why are you here?

"the fact that your invitation even found me is an impressive feat, as i take great care to make sure my tracks are hard to see," elizabeth admitted. "i don't reject missions, even long winded ones like this."

shall we roleplay a few scenarios? let's say a terrorist has another member of the project hostage with a bomb in their cell with them. there's also a nuclear missle pointed at new york. you know how both of these can be disarmed, but you have twenty minutes before the bomb detonates and the nuclear missle is launched. what do you do?

"you're not giving me enough details," elizabeth said. "regardless, there are more than two people in the project, correct? one other could just head to the cell with the bomb to disarm, maybe more than one to apprehend the terrorist. i could remotely disarm the nuclear missile. if worst comes to worst, redirect the missile to another location."

the project has reason to believe that one of four individuals is the leader of a major crime ring. There isn't enough evidence to identify which one, but you and another hero have a hunch that points to one of them. we're informed that the crime ring plans to violently murder a large number of innocent people in 48 hours. what do you do?

"forty eight hours is a long time, but it would only take me less than half of that," elizabeth remarked. "first step is to gather information, which luckily, is my specialty. when that doesn't bring any conclusive results, give a visit to the individuals mentioned, starting with the most suspicious one, and coax the answers out of them." with this, elizabeth smirked a little, the movement small, but still visible enough for agent adams to discern what elizabeth actually meant. "it's up to your interpretation to find out what i mean by coax."

you're sent on a solo mission to a remote location to gather information about new military weapons a terror group is designing. while on the mission, your cover is blown before you go in, but you know where and how to get the weapon designs. what do you do?

"it's incredibly unlike me to have my cover blown, it's only happened a handful of times, but i'll play along," elizabeth said. "i go in and retrieve the designs using the path that will lead to it the quickest. if i happened to run into people, knock them down. then leave with the plans. simple."

another hero tells you that they've fallen in love with you. you return their feelings. what do you do?

"i return their feelings? that would suggest i feel emotions, something i've been incapable of feeling since i was recruited to the league." elizabeth answered truthfully. "after all, how can a killing machine feel love?"

alias rumbra, the red shadow

costume elizabeth wears a black, tight fitting body suit during her missions. the top part of the suit is long sleeved and covers her neck. she has a belt with compartments that contain the tools she needs in missions. the bottom part  is some just relatively plain. she wears boots that's just a little bit shorter than knee length boots. she wears her hair in a tucked french braid to keep it out of her face.

Costume enhancements

— her suit is made of durable material that's allows easy movement on elizabeth's part
— her suit could withstand a lot of things, including, but not limited to, sharp things, high and low temperature, quick movements, et. al.
— her belt contains all her gadgets (a thin and strong rope, her weapons which is most of the time a small pistol, tranq darts, poison, etc.)
— words

type of Skill assassination

use of Skills

espionage she's a master spy. she has succeeded in exactly three hundred and seventy three missions relating espionage
— information gathering a big part of being a spy is being able to collect information, and elizabeth excels in this. she knows how to retireve information using various methods from as simple as observation to using torture to get it
— stealth she knows how to move quietly as to alert no one
— infiltration she knows how to scope out a building, plot out it's weak points and use it to enter said building swiftly
— disguise sometimes, she's had to disguise herself to get close to her target or to enter a facility without raising alarms. give her an hour, she'll look unrecognizable through the use of make up, prosthetics, and clothing
multiligual she can speak a total of thirty languages fluently, and she can pretend to be fluent in thirty more. being able to understand your target is pretty vital in her line of work
— martial arts she's pretty well versed in most of the knows forms of fighting in this world, but she mostly prefers the ones that don't require weapons other than her body
— flexibility her body is pretty flexible. it has to, after all, how is she going to fit in that air duct. she could porbably pass for a gymnast if she wanted to
— assassination and i quote, "looking around this room, i can find thirty two creative ways to kill you silently in the span of five seconds. fifty seven, if you include methods that would create noise." basically, she can kill people with ease
— weapons she prefers to fight with just her body, not using a weapon, but she can still use most known weapons

special training

acting she's an excellent actress, able to switch between one persona after the other. she's also skilled in the art of seduction, among other things
computer programming she can hack into some pretty secure computer systems if she tried, with hacking being a integral part of gathering information

piloting (am i using that word right?) she can operate most known vehicles on earth with relative ease

so pretty naman this girl

anything i missed? guess who's excited for the upcoming season of game of thrones and decided to use sophie turner as fc? (hint, it's me). the shadow league is inspired by the league of assassins and the red room lmao. also i hope your okay with her not actually being good like an actual hero.i wrote her to be more morally ambiguous bordering on ruthless.

scene requets

— one of the heros meeting emma and mistaking her for elizabeth

character's theme song anything lidsey stirling, really
