Thoughts on Ko-Fi?????

BEFORE I START IM GOING TO MAKE IT VERY CLEAR THAT IF I DO DECIDE TO DO THIS I WOULD NOT BE EXPECTING ANYONE TO GIVE ANYTHING AT ALL IT WOULD BE TOTALLY UP TO YOU AND I WOULD NOT BE SAD/OFFENDED IF YOU DIDNT WANT TO GIVE OR COULD NOT AFFORD.

Ok so a post came to my attention on twitter about a website thingy called kofi which allows people to make a donation of about the price of a coffee (it's listed as $3 on the website but idk how this translates around the world cuz I'm British so I'm just as lost but yeah)

its done via paypal so I'm assuming it's fairly secure, but I do worry about how it would feel.

So so what are your thoughts? How would you feel if authors offered this? I've already aired my worries that people would start to write for money or that people would think I was writing solely for money.

PLEASE GIVE ME YOUR HONEST VIEWS!!!

TO BE CLEAR, IM NOT ASKING WOULD YOU DONATE IF I OR ANOTHER AUTHOR DID THIS. IM ASKING IF YOU FEEL ITS MORALLY OK/ IF YOU AGREE WITH OFFERING IT!

PLEASE BE HONEST I JUST WANT SOME HONEST THOUGHTS!!!! (I'll probably add a quick poll on my page as a quick yes or no thing but I'd love to hear detailed views!!!!!!

but wait i suddenly think it's fine to just put the ko-fi button on each a/n without context? like you just put it at the bottom of the page and those who'd be interested, will click on it when they feel like they want to give you tips :o

i just checked out this post because i made ko-fi so my readers can like leave me a tips if they want. but i don't plan on putting it on every a/n corner lol i mean i don't want to be seen as desperate because i really, truly genuinely write for fun! but it'd be nice if you give an option for your readers to show just how much they love your works to the point of leaving you tips. as a reader, if i have that extra $1 i'd love to give a tips to my fav authors. after all, they worked so hard to write and provide us good quality contents that we actually enjoy. i think there's nothing wrong with that ;) but this is just my personal opinion! <3

I totally dragged the idea on my last comment lmao but it's not that it's all bad. Like some other people commented, it can also be used as a way to send love to your favorites writes and friends. It's all just basically how you gonna use it!

(i'm mad i had actually written a big text on my opinion about this but the page suddenly reloaded grrr)

Okay. So. I guess I'd kinda understand if an author did this because, ya know, the whole time, patience, effort you put into a fanfic and stuff... but, unless they turning it into a book and making it official, I don't think it's necessary.
I mean. (I don't really write so this is my genuine view on it but) Writing fanfic is supposed to be something for fun, a time-killer, a stress-reliever, something casual. If a reader decides to donate because they really liked a story and/or that's their favorite reader, "okay ily and ur fics here's this lil appreciation gift, or something, okay, that I
can agree with. That's okay. But, making it you literally job? uhhhh i dunno.
The risks of someone doing it solemnly because of the money and take advantage over some readers is high. People might even start writing about famous ships (like our blessed kaisoo) just to get more money, which is bad.
But that's like my opinion. If you think the opposite that's like totally okay.

okay but honestly now I'm thinking about it this way - I'm a seasoned author, you're a seasoned author - our fans might think of it differently. we've already written an load of stuff yanno, so it would seem as more of an "aw i love ur work you've done so much, here accept my small gift" but others may catch wind of this and use it as a way to make money using aff. they make use it to say if i don't get a certain amount of money i won't write - which tbh ppl do this with comments and up votes so idk it might not change anything.

just more thoughts lmao

actually I think this is a great idea like because it's not like a patreon where it's like a set payment per month as a support the person's lifestyle but like I like this, I appreciate this, I want to give you a little something for it. I don't think it's a begging for money thing because it isn't mandatory and it is a one time payment. If you support a writer, a brand, etc you give to it.
And like some people put their fanfics on Amazon and make money off of it, I feel like reading the fanfics for free but dropping a little tip isn't much to ask for.

honestly since you brought this up, I had no idea this existed, and I've made one of my own. I might make a blog about it too and already have one to give it a trial run.

and like keep in mind that like not everyone can give, not everyone wants to give, but there may be people who do, and this is for them to show how much they love it. it isnt really asking for anything, it's giving an option for someone who really loves your work to show it in a way that can benefit you outside of a a comment, even some people don't like commenting and would rather show their love for a story in other ways. it could also start a career in posting stories on other platforms, amazon books, etc. it might make the author make more or put more work into their writing if they're getting little tips here and there.

like I don't really believe it's asking for money, I feel like it could be an option for those who want to, because some will like the ideas and others won't, so if they don't, just don't donate. cause like there are plenty of ways to show affection to authors, this is only one way.

As a writer, I don't have an interest in creating one.

But as a reader, I would LOVE to be able to tip my fav authors in a secure, anonymous way like that.

For it not to feel intrusive or obnoxious, it should be a quiet link at the bottom of a fic or in the author's profile where people seek it out to show support, rather than something the author hypes in each a/n. Encouraging comments/upvotes is totally different, imo, from encouraging tipping, and bc one is about feedback and the other is about revenue- WHICH THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH (I have ppl I want to tip!!), but will inevitably bring out haters who suspect ppl aren't in into fic writing for 'authentic' reasons. We've seen this struggle play out even recently in our corner of fandom :(

So I'd totally support you making an account if you're interested, Tea. Just be judicious with how you link it if so.

At first i thought 'why not?' but when i think about it, i am actually kind of scared that when many people do this it will turn from an offer to a must overtime 'cause lets be honest when some people find a way to make money they will use it, like how 'MissMinew' (the first comment) said... Just my honest opinion. :)

I don't know. I feel like it's ripping people off. Kind of like those "I'm in much distress, pls donate some money to me". Not that I don't doubt people can be in financial distress (I was there a month ago and it was horrible, I know what it feels like!!) but just ... I don't think it's right to ask people to donate like that.
And if people want to write for money, I think there are other ways to do it.
The amount doesn't really matter to me. I think it's wrong. >.<'
