I am who I am
PERSONALITY TRAITS: Cocky, Cheerful, Spoiled, Impulsive, Hyperactive, Social, Petty, Enthusiastic
PERSONALITY:
Cocky, Petty, and Spoiled // Raehwan undeniably led a charmed life. And it has left him with something of an entitlment complex, expecting things that he wants to come easier than they normally should. He's not overtly spoiled however, as he is willing to put in effort to get what he wants - but if things don't go well the first time through he gets rather upset. Raehwan very much acts the spoiled child when things don't go his way right away - pouty silences, petty low-blows, and general childish whininess. He can be pulled out of this by giving him a new objective to chase after though. However Raehwan has the terrible habit of ignoring when things didn't turn out the way he wanted, so his mind if filled with memories of him constantly succeeding - and of course it's made him just a little bit cocky. He's not as in-your-face boy as some people, but he has a definitely sense of superiority and is always only too happy to show off for anyone who shows even the slightest bit of interest.
Cheerful, Enthusiastic, and Social // Despite all that though, Raehwan has a pretty decent crowd of friends. He's very much a take-charge type of person, and his love of socializing has netted him a wide variety of people he's capable of talking to. While no one would say Raehwan is super open minded, he does have the super power of being able to talk to most people without wanting to rip their head off if they differ on sensitive topics. People attribute this skill to the fact he is perpatually cheerful (if he's not pouting), but he actually quite enjoys talking with people different from himself, engaging them with a higher level of enthusiasm than he normally would. Which is saying something since his standard level of enthusiasm for things is "Hell yeah, let's do this !" Raehwan is very much a gung-ho go-getter and he doesn't care what the challenge is as long as it gives him something to do.
Impulsive and Hyperactive // One thing everyone can agree on, whether they like Raehwan or not, is that he definitely, without a doubt, has ADHD. He's always in motion, fidgeting in his seat, messing with his shirt, running in circles randomly just to let out energy - he's like the energizer bunny on Red Bull. He's always talking as well, and has the habit of interrupting people when he thinks of something to say. This extends to everything - he jumps head first into situations without thinking first simply because if he were to stop moving he'd go absolutely nuts. This also links to a tendency to rarely finish anything he starts, be it a thought train or a school project (to this day no one knows how he got through high school without ever failing a grade). He can pay attention to people, but he finds it easier if he's doing something else at the same time. He's a hard-wired multi-tasker, which unfortunately means nothing gets his full attention at any given time, leading to disorganization and forgetfullness about certain tasks that need to be finished in a certain time frame.
BACKGROUND:
Raehwan was born the only child of a well-off family in Daegu. His family came from money - his ancestors had done well back when Daegu was the third most profitable city in Korea. However with the economic dowturn his parents were looking for a chance to get out of Daegu and preserve their decent wealth. Raehwan of course didn't really get any of that - he was just a child when they lived in Daegu. Unaware of his parents' want to get out of the city, he went about his daily life same as most other kids his age, though perhaps with a bit more enthusiasm and energy than some. He made a good handful of friends once he got to school, though his teachers weren't particularly appreciative of his tendency to interrupt class and not pay proper attention. Then when he was eight his parents announced that his father had landed a job in LA and they were moving there within the month.
The complete uprooting of his life did not sit well with Raehwan at first. Although the language switch wasn't as traumatizing as it could have been since he'd been attending an international school in Korea, he was still teased for his weird name and accent for quite a while. However Raehwan is nothing if not resilient and he eventually won over his classmates with his energy and quirky way of doing things. And he was quick to forive and forget, adapting to his new home within a year and establishing himself as a well-known and generally liked figure amongst his peers. It soon became apparent to his parents and teachers, though, that Raehwan had ADHD. He was formally diagnosed a little after he turned 9, but his parents refused to put him on medication. Instead, they enrolled him in dance classes as a way for him to let off energy.
Dance became far more than a hobby for the young Raehwan though. He took to dancing in the streets by the age of 14, learning from other performers. His parents didn't care so long as he was home by 11 each night and kept his grades up enough to pass. Dance became his life, and though he was far from "the best" he become known for his enthusiasm and general hyperactivity. He was 18 when a video of him goofing off with some friends caught the attention of an SM scout. Since he'd graduated highschool and wasn't sure what else to do with himself at the time he agreed to fly out to Korea to audition. His parents set him up with no questions, just happy that he seemed to finally have a direction in life. So off he went to Korea and his new adventure.
And then he failed the SM audition. Raehwan didn't really know what to do with himself after he was informed that, as it turned out, he wasn't quite what SM was looking for right then but thanks for trying have a nice day. While initially discouraged, in true Raehwan fashion he forgot about it and began exploring the streets of Gangnam. On his adventures he ran into another building boasting idols and he decided to pop in and see what there was to see. Luck was on his side that day, and when he inquired after a position as a trainee he was given five minutes to show what he had. With no prior preparation he put on a random song and danced. Though he wasn't the crispest or the most skilled dancer, the auditioner saw something in him and offered him a two year contract with the company, and Raehwan didn't hesitate to sign.
Raehwan hasn't been training for very long: he's one of the newer trainees at only seven months. However he's certainly made a name for himself in that time, and not always a good one. While his generally laid back approach to training and genuine excitement for dance won him some friends within the trainees themselves, his hyperactivity and inability to focus through a full practice session drove his trainers insane (as well as some trainees). Raehwan is passionate, but on his own time, and the stiff schedule of training never sat very well with him. As such he's found ways of spicing things up, from dragging classes outside to starting dance offs in the middle of practice. No one's quite sure why his sabotages are so successful, but somehow people continue to be dragged along by the Raehwan wave whether they like it or not.
TRIVIA:
╳ He always has a squeeze ball on hand in case he has to sit still for periods longer than a few minutes
╳ If there's a particular bit of Korean he wants to absolutely get right (such as his introduction) he practices it over and over before using it
╳ He specifically chose a stylized version of his stagename for romanized use since "Ray" looks too boring in his opinion.
╳ Prior to being scouted he was attending UCLA as a Performance Major. He wasn't sure what he was going to do with it, he just knew he wanted to dance
╳ He has a habit of casually swearing in English
╳ He did try surfing once. He has not done that again, thank you.
╳ His favorite color changes almost everytime he's asked. He doesn't have one so when asked he just say the first color that comes to mind
╳ He has a major sweet tooth and friends often joke he subsisits entirely on a diet of sugar rather than real food. The sad thing is it might be less of a joke than they realize since Raehwan is something of a picky eater and he usually snacks instead of eating real meals

LAST COMMENT: I've had this character pretty much done for a while now but I was really nervous about submitting him since I'm not sure how you'll react to his talent twin... I had an actual vocal person help me select a clip where Jimin's voice does go out of tune and he strains a lot to show exactly how Raehwan sounds when singing. Oh god, please don't kill me for this OTL
