Is the Subscriber and Members Only feature really a good feature on AFF?
I think I can understand why those options are there, but at the same time…
For authors who want to share their works with everyone, putting Subscribers Only and Members Only is really limiting your audience, and I hope authors understand that?
Sadly there are people here who just want subscribers and views and comments for the karma points (as a writer I don’t like that because like you know… why the heck are you doing that here? This is a place to share your creativity, not to see how many subs and points you can get, this ain’t a game bruh!), but there are also authors like me who are just here to share stories and ideas with their fandom.
I know for sure there are readers who don’t even have an AFF account and bookmarked my stories to read the updates and they’re some of my biggest fans! I’m amazed by their dedication...
So I’m really curious about those features now...
If it should be taken off or if there should at least be a disclaimer when you mark your story with one of those options stating
[Sub Only & Members Only = Ren pushing all the readers away LOL]
“You’re limiting your audience”
[Authors: I don’t understand, where are all the people at?]
because honestly, it seems like some authors on this site don’t understand why they’re not gaining subscribers. They’re not realizing that they just blocked access to their story from readers who don’t have an account as well as picky readers who like to read a few chapters to see if they want to subscribe or not. I personally know what that is like. I’ve subscribed only to unsubscribe because the author limited who can view it. That’s not to say that they just wanted subscribers because maybe some authors aren’t confident in their writing and so they limit it and the people who do subscribe and stay subscribed are the people who like their writing. I don’t know, but I’ve felt really bad each time I have to subscribe only to unsubscribe simply because I couldn’t get a sense or feel if I liked the story or not. I always feel like an when I unsubscribe lol
I was actually that kind of author before when I first started out. I was insecure about my writing and had my stories on Subscribers Only and Members Only before. This was a looooong time ago on different accounts... and I’ve changed since then. Before I’d write for the subscribers, but now I write for me(as in I try to avoid thinking of what other people want and more on what I want in my fics) and whoever happens to be there just gets to enjoy my crazy ideas with me!
[Update Notification: Boom! BACK WITH AN UPDATE BISH, ARE YOU READY?!]
Subscribing is something that allows readers to be alerted to know an update has been made to their favorite stories, that’s all I see it as, really… though I could also see it as a following, but still, there are followers who aren’t subscribers.
Someone’s blog post made me really think about it now and I’m not throwing them under the bus, I just found it really interesting now that I really thought about it.
:D
You’re welcome for the spam of Ren gifs… LOL
