expensive education
A little backstory about my field of study and education before I get into this, I will be graduating Fall (hopefully) of 2017 and I will be getting an associates degree in graphic design (a 2yr degree) from a branch college. For those of you who don't know what a branch college is, it's just basically a branched off college from a major university. Right now I'm at a community college but I was supposed to transfer to the main college in a different city once I graduated. However, because it's me and thins have to be difficutl for me I guess, I found out the main college won't accept most of my credits once I get my associates degree. So, basically, if I were to transfer it would be like starting over. To just add insult to injury, the main college got rid of every art related degree and replaced it with fine arts. I'm not going to go into why that , but it does. And the other main university in my state doesn't offer a 4yr degree in any art related thing. So, now, I have to look for colleges outside of my state that, preferably, specialize in graphic design or any digital media art like animation or even photography. Now, I don't want to generalize, but people put down art degrees a lot. In the States, people prioritize science, math, and medicine. Those are the three main branches because jobs for that are abundant and you can get a very good salary if you follow through. I'm not saying that those aren't important, but I think things like humanities or humanities study is also important. People aren't just facts and figures, the world isn't just cold facts. Personally, as an artist, the majority of people either give up on art or just steer clear because you hear horror stories of starving artists and yeah, while it can be difficult to make it primarily as a true artist (living off of selling your work) art is still important. Creative outlets in general i think are rather important and for most schools to just dismiss that makes me really sad. And I want to get out of my town, so it might sound weird that I'm complaining about this, but there's a good reason for it. College is just so, so, so expensive here. And because I'll have to go out of state, there's something called "out of state tuition" which tacks on an extra few thousand to whatever I have to pay a semester. It's just...really an unpleasant situation to be in and I'm not happy about it at all. I want to say I still have time to think about it and not worry, but considering how fast 2016 went for me, 2017 will be just as fast. I'm disappointed in the main college tbh but there's nothing I can do. Being an adult and thinking about stuff like this really . And I don't have many options. A change in career field is just a flat out no, and it's either finish my degree here or find another alternative abroad maybe but still...I have relatives in California from my mom's side but I've never met them so it would be weird living with people for a year just to gain in-state residence. It's all a mess rn tbh and I think I'm disassociating
