BACKGROUND + Both of her parents were usually working, so Yang Minhye usually ended up being taken care of by her aunt and uncle. She had two cousins she grew up with, Yang Haeyeon and Yang Yoseob. Minhye didn't mind. She really liked her cousins. As she grew up, Minhye was rather spoiled. She always got what she wanted since she was the youngest out of the Yang family and thus, their little princess. Rather than simply being their cousin, Minhye was known to Haeyeon and Yoseob as their precious little sister. So, Minhye grew up loved and sheltered and an overall happy child. She seemed pretty smart too, but she was simply a fast learner like Yoseob. When he took an interest in music, Minhye's curiosity peaked. Her cousin began to practice singing, she followed too. Minhye started out listening to the same kind of music Yoseob did- Brian McKnight's. The two of them would listen to his songs along with those of a similar genre (R&B, soul, etc). Minhye also began to listen to dance and rock as well with her cousin, not wanting to be stuck to one genre. While Yoseob stopped at dance and rock, Minhye kept venturing in the world of music. Classical, ballad, hip-hop, pop, blues, country, electronic, jazz, and more- she loved all of them. She fell in love with music. Minhye began taking vocal lessons along with Yoseob. She wasn't good at first- she was actually tone-deaf! For the first few weeks, it was a complete disaster and her vocal teacher wanted her to quit, but Minhye refused. She wanted to get better, to stand on stage and become one with music. Minhye began to train herself to recognize notes and pitch, each and everyday. She listened to her vocal teacher and Yoseob demonstrate nearly every note there was in existence until she completely memorized them- engraved them into her heart. Minhye studied how to read sheet music and how each piece in a song blended together to one complete puzzle. It wasn't until after months and months of studying that Minhye finally sang her first note that wasn't absolutely horrible. Yoseob had joined a high school band around the same time, so he got to become familiar to the stage. Not wanting to lose to him, Minhye sang nearly every second of the day in order to get her vocals familiar with the notes she memorized. Slowly, but surely, she began getting better.

When she was around thirteen, Minhye auditioned for JYP where her cousin Yoseob was. The two of them were accepted as trainees and Minhye cultivated her vocals there. She spent so much time in the practice room that the other trainees joked that she lived in the practice room. After around a year or so, Yoseob left JYP, but Minhye stayed, knowing that she can still improve and having hope. She stayed at JYP for three more years, developing her own style and improving her other skills. However, like most who were trainees, Minhye got cut. 

She felt lost after being abandoned by JYP, but while aimlessly wandering the streets, Minhye had gotten scouted from Cube Entertainment for her looks. Finally having somewhere to go, Minhye agreed and trained under Cube. She enjoyed it there much more, able to freely develop her own style rather than JYP's. Her vocals improved yet again, learning new things from a different perspective from a different company. Yoseob was there too, able to finally debut under the boy group Beast. At the company, she was known as Yoseob's Cousin rather than Yang Minhye. While she enjoyed being there along with her 4minute unnies and Beast oppas, Minhye didn't like being known simply as Yoseob's Cousin. If she debuted at Cube, then she would only be riding on his popularity. When she turned nineteen, Minhye resigned from Cube, wanting to known as her own person. She auditioned for YG Entertainment in 2014 with her vocals she honed throughout the long years and trial after trial, she became a trainee. 

PERSONALITY + Yang Minhye is known for always having a smile on her face. She's always so cheerful and bright, trying to find the fun and good out of everything. It's really rare not to see her smiling or being the cute ball of sunshine she usually is. Her cheerfulness is contagious, so it's no surprise that the people around her can be seen with smiles too. As described by her cousin Yoseob, Minhye's like the sun. Warm, bright, and always there, even if you can't see her. She's also extra persistent. Minhye doesn't know when to quit. When something's difficult or hard, she doesn't give up at all. Minhye charges on with that ever-present smile on her face. Actually, when faced with challenges, she gets more fired up than ever! Minhye is also extremely hard-working. Even if it's only the tiniest thing, you can gurantee she'll spend countless hours working to improve. Blood, sweat, tears- she'll shed anything to perfect herself. Even on her days off or if there's time to rest, Minhye works to improve.

As the youngest of the Yang family, Minhye is still rather childish for her age. She still loves to play with stuffed animals and watch children shows. Being treated with extra attention is what she's used to and naturally doing aegyo or pouting. She can get a little bratty sometimes. If no one's paying any attention to her, Minhye bothers the other members until they finally pay attention to her or anyone available. Being surrounded by love ever since she was born, Minhye has always been used to getting what she wanted. Whatever she wanted, her cousins or other family members will get for her. If she doesn't get what she wants, Minhye becomes a little whiny and bratty, but mostly very pouty. Sometimes, Minhye can get a little too fired up. Her determination can self-destructive. She can seem over-competitive or strain her vocals from practicing too much and even injure herself onstage from being to determined to give a great performance. It's done with good intentions, but it can get excessive very quickly. Her cousin Yoseob also describes her as a young adult that still needs to be watched over like a child.

TRAINEE BACKGROUND +  Yang Minhye began training from a young age and juggling it with her education was difficult. She wasn't used to the dance training at all, but she got through it. Minhye was a fast learner with dancing- more than often called a "copy machine" but it's extremely difficult for her to freestyle. She could only regurgitate what she sees. Minhye also went through intense vocal training as well and many times, she wanted to drop and quit. However, she didn't let herself. The dream of becoming one with music on the stage still rested in her mind. Training in JYP for the four years she was there was suffocating compared to Cube and YG. JYP had a specific style it was locked into and Minhye didn't feel comfortable. While the other trainees and sunbaes were cool and fun, Minhye was slowly being suffocated by the style she was locked into, but she was determined to succeed. However, they had cut her off, like they did with so many others.

Training at Cube left much more freedom, but it was still just as difficult. They focused much more on dance than Minhye thought they would and while she did well, it was only because she was a copy machine, not because she was actually good at dancing. Her vocals still improved from learning from a new perspective under Cube and speaking with the other trainees and sunbaes at the agency. However, she was always known as Yoseob's Cousin, never her own person. Minhye was just training and living under his shadow, so she left Cube to make a name for herself.

YG was much more different from both Cube and JYP. While the style focused more on the current trends and such, the vocal training just seemed to... fit. The power, control, and overall style was one she fused with her own. Everyone looked past that she was Beast's Yang Yoseob's cousin and saw her as Yang Minhye, YG trainee. From a new perspective yet again, Minhye refined her vocals and while the dancing wasn't as intense, it was still a bit difficult for her because she spent most of her focus on her vocals. This time, nothing felt suffocating in YG. It was a nice and friendly place with people who saw her for her. In YG, she felt she belonged, kind of. Under YG, her vocals improved exponentially with her new musical freedom and comfort. While she stressed over the evaluations, Minhye persisted and got through them with flying colors. After hearing she will be debuting soon, Minhye began refining her dance skills, so that she wouldn't bring the group down should she stand out like a sore thumb onstage with horrible dancing.

Close as ever still, Yoseob and Minhye still keep contact and hang out with each other. Many B2UTYs thought she was the rumored girlfriend of Yoseob's because of their closeness, but were surprised when she was revealed to be his close cousin.

Minhye isn't that tall, but her youthful features make up for it. They say it's a common trait in the Yang family, after all! She has a rather young face and is quite slim. In fact, her limbs are really thin, so it's no surprise she has absolutely no physical strength. Minhye used to have black hair a long time ago, but she dyed it light brown and it's quite long. She used to have a forehead fringe too, before she switched to brushing her bangs to the side to reveal her forehead. She has clear, unblemished skin that's usually mentioned here and there by others. She has large eyes that form little crescents when she smiles. In her opinion, her best feature is her eye smile, which can be seen nearly 24/7.

PERSONALITY + Unlike the other members of VIXX, Leo is extremely reserved and basically the total opposite of outgoing. He's known as the "poker face chic" of the group and can be cold at times. Leo's actually just pretty shy, but masks it by being a block of ice (although, the other members don't buy it). He's not much of a talker and doesn't smile much either, which leads to him being a bit misunderstood by those who don't know him well. Leo's actually a real softie on the inside though. Although he can appear cold and uncaring, Leo's always been very grateful and touched by his fans and he's very kind, especially towards children and animals. While he doesn't always voice it, Leo holds a lot of love inside of him and tries to show it through his actions. 

RELATIONSHIP + If one were to see the two together, it would appear that Minhye is usually the only one talking to a block of emotionless ice, but that's not the case. No one really sees the occasional, soft glances given her way or the gentle nudges here and there. Usually, Minhye's a ball of sunshine bouncing through the roofs, but with Leo, she's much more mellow... but still ever shining. Minhye is always trying to get Leo to smile or laugh whenever she sees him. Sometimes she's successful, but most of the time she fails awkwardly. Nevertheless, Minhye is extremely persistent and thus, keeps trying. Although one would think Leo dislikes it, he actually welcomes her company. Always smiling and bubbly, she gives off a good, positive feeling whenever she's around. Leo views her almost like a female N, but not as overwhelming. Whenever he's down or in a bad mood, Minhye always seems to be refreshing or healing to him. On the other side, Minhye just wants to see him be happy- to freely show it. His smiles and laughs are like precious treasures to her, so she's always trying to get him to do so. Although on the surface, it appears that Minhye seems to be annoying Leo, that's not really the case. It's kind of like an unspoken language between the two, a world that only they know. Sometimes, they may not even speak because they just know. While they aren't officially dating, it kind of seems like they are with the way they look at each other, full of affection and acceptance of one another. Their relationship can't exactly be categorized as simply "boyfriend and girlfriend" but rather, companions, kindred spirits, and maybe even soulmates. Although it appears that they seem like polar opposites, the two of them aren't actually that different at all. The two of them prefer face-to-face interaction in their little corner of the cafe rather than texting or calling.

HISTORY + 

"I will definitely get you to smile!"

They first met through Hyuk at one of VIXX's concerts. While the other VIXX members were extremely outgoing and boisterous as ever, Leo was much more quiet and reserved. In fact, he was the farthest from her. Minhye, curious, approached him with her usual smile and attempted to start a conversation, but Leo kept quiet and just stared at her. Unperturbed by his lack of response, Minhye just kept speaking and had the other members of VIXX join in. Eventually, she found out that Leo was more of the reserved and chic member of the group, but N also informed her that he smiled from time to time too. Determined to get him to smile, Minhye tried out all sorts of jokes and things to crack even the tiniest of smirks, but to no avail. At the end, Minhye was unable to get even a smile from the vocalist.

They met once again backstage at a music show. Still determined as ever, Minhye bounced over and tried again, but still to no avail. She was dragged away by the other members of Cosmos before she could try for the tenth time that moment.

Another meeting at a cafe and it wasn't Minhye who noticed him at first. Leo was getting tired of her attempts to get him to smile, but at the same time, he liked her company. Getting a cup of coffee himself, Leo noticed that she didn't wear her usual smile that evening. She had her headphones in with an uncharacteristic straight face as she thumbed her childish cup of hot chocolate. He was intrigued, especially the sight of her face without that eye smile. In fact, it kind of made him feel a little empty. The good feeling she carried with her that he had felt the first time they met was absent. Curious, Leo took a seat across from her. Minhye took immediate notice of this and lifted her head. An instantaneous smile graced her face and she immediately began speaking to him. Leo noted that the good feeling she always brought felt even better that evening. Feeling comfortable enough to speak, Leo asked why she wasn't smiling earlier. Minhye's surprise at his question wasn't disguised as she answered that she felt stagnant at the improvement of her vocals, which put her in a down mood. Familiar with the feeling, Leo advises her shortly that she'll figure it out soon. Minhye smiles, but this time it's a wide, genuine from the bottom of her heart smile. From that evening forward, they felt a common understanding and for the first time, Leo smiled at her too.
