From the Thorns... ► Jung Aran // The Gwangju Delegate

Jung Aran

ItonamiKanmi• Kanmi • 7/10

the basics.

name » Jung Aran

nickname(s) »
- "The Shut In"

Aran, whenever she's not working or going to school, can usually be found in her room at her home working on compositions or her performance. She doesn't really go out a lot, or at all really, so her peers came up this nickname for her.

- "Born Singer"

Her father came up with this nickname for her. Ever since she was born, Aran has been surrounded by music and sang all the time. Not only that, but she was very talented in it. She loves performing, like her father. Many people in Gwangju call her the born singer as well.

birthday & age » September 14 & 17

kingdom » Kingdom of Gwangju

face claim » Kim Shin Yeong

backup face claim »  Sonamoo's High D (Ah, why must it be so difficult finding a gallery for our girls...)

appearance » Aran has long, dark brown hair that can be seen in various hairstyles, but is mostly left down. She's rather petite, standing at 158 cm and a light weight of 47 kg. Aran has a doll-like appearance that makes her appear more fragile than she really is. She's also known to be quite beautiful amongst her peers with clear, smooth skin.

style » Aran's not one for traditional dresses, considering her father's affiliation with a few foreign countries allowing her access to certain items that can't be found in the South Korean kingdoms. However, she'll wear them every now and then, but that's mostly when she actually gets out of the house. Her hair is usually kept the way it is or is tied back in a braid. Aran really loves to accessorize, though. She has a whole collection of pendants and earrings in multiple shades of green, most either emerald or jade. When she performs, Aran usually wears the traditional dance hanbok if she performs in South Korea, but overseas, she wears whatever is in fashion.

" I'm a born singer."

"What is life without music?"

the girl next door.

plotline » The Gwangju Delegate

personality »

Positive- Hardworking, Mature, Practical, Patient, Caring
Negative- Perfectionist, Overly Cautious, Aloof, Inflexible, Meddlesome

"Let's work hard today."
Aran is usually practicing or writing music in her free time. Despite being known as the born singer, that title didn't come without hard work. She's shed blood, sweat, and tears to be known as the best of the best in her age range and even further. This is probably one of her best qualities..

"I'll learn from this and improve."
She's also rather mature for her age, since her father was usually gone for performances and the like. Aran faces her mistakes and works to improve them and she doesn't stoop to other's level when they want to belittle her.
"It's a lot more logical this way."
Aran is rather practical. She doesn't really like theories or concepts up in the air. Aran is more concerned about reality rather than the world of ideas. She's also more frugal this way, although, it's not like she really needs to save money.
"I can wait."
You'd be surprised how patient she is. Even if she's been waiting hours on end, Aran has an enormous capacity for patience.
"Are you alright?"
Aran is a humanitarian and will always be there to remind the other delegates or her father to take more care of their health should the situation come to it. She's really attentive to those who are ill and very caring. No matter who they are, Aran will care for anyone's health. If she didn't love music so much, she would have been a doctor.

"I'm not done yet. It's not perfect."
With her hardworking trait comes her tendency for perfection. If things aren't perfect, then Aran works hard to ensure that it is. If things are unorganized, then she'll organize it. If her performance isn't clean enough, then she'll go over it so many times that she ends up collapsing at times. This perfectionist trait of hers may offend others as well.
"Is that so..."
Aran is very cautious, especially around the unknown. She approaches conversation with disguised uncertainty and chooses her words extremely carefully. Since she hasn't socialized a lot, Aran is very careful when speaking with others.
"..."
While she's caring, Aran can be very aloof if you don't know each other very well. She's distant, trying to protect herself while determining if the person she's speaking to is someone she can trust. Aran doesn't do this purposely, but it really does seem this way whenever you speak to her if you aren't close.
"This is my plan and I'm sticking with it, sorry."
Aran can be surprisingly inflexible when suggested to try new things or to get rid of her perfectionist ways. She doesn't like to follow whatever other people say unless they're her father or Seona. The unknown frightens her, after all. So, Aran wishes to stay as she is, not wanting to change.
"It may not be my business, but..."
Since she cares a lot about people, don't be surprised to find her being a bit meddlesome. Aran just really wants to help, but this trait of hers can be a little misplaced. To others, she's being nosy in someone else's business and that doesn't go well for most people.

Performing (singing, dancing, etc.) // She always remembers the thrill
-
The color green // She doesn't get tired of it

Dislikes »

- The Ocean // It's full of the unknown and she can't swim so...
-
The idea of falling in love // It sounds like a world of heartbreak from hearing all the love songs
-
Listening to her own voice // They say that the voice you hear isn't the voice that others hear, so Aran doesn't like listening to her voice because she can't hear what others can
-
Messy things // She really hates it when things are unorganized and messy and may attempt to clean everything up (unless it isn't hers to touch, but it's difficult to hold back the urge)

Habits »

Hobbies »

- Composing
- Practicing (singing, dancing, etc.)
- Playing the saenghwang, a free reed mouth organ

ETC »

- If it's music, then Aran can do anything. She even has something called "perfect pitch" which allows her to always find the right notes. However, she's not that well versed in politics or any of that. She's good with public speaking, since she is a performer, but she only has an average intelligence with everything else. If anything, there's not really much she can do outside of music except for housework.
- She's not exactly narcoleptic, but she's a bit close. Aran sleeps anywhere and at any time, even in the most stifling situations. However, the only place she doesn't sleep is on the stage, of course.

home is where your heart is.

background »

Jung Aran was born surrounded by music. She lived it- breathed it even- and she's always been in love with it. From a young age, she's been influenced by the music around her and always sang. Her father was known as a legendary performer along with the rest of the members of TVXQ, so they have been a great influence on her as well. However, when she was young, her father wasn't around a lot because of his overseas "concerts" so she was alone with her mother most of the time. Her mother was a very selfless woman who cared for Aran very much, but she became ill after giving birth to Aran. At a young age, Aran became responsible and much more mature in order to keep a household running whenever her father would come back. When Aran turned five, her mother died in her sleep. Luckily, her father had come back the next morning to handle the situation, albeit shaken. TVXQ's activities halted to hold a service for Aran's mother and despite being so young, Aran knew what her father meant when he said she would never see her mother again. She cried, but her tears quickly dried with her father's and the rest of TVXQ's efforts. Since her father was still active and there wasn't really anyone she could stay with, Aran travelled with her father to many different places for his music and became closer with him and the other members of TVXQ.

It wasn't until she was eight that Junsu had gotten married and there was someone that could look after her. While Aran didn't like being away from her father, she understood it was for the best and returned back to Gwangju to greet Junsu's new wife. She was really nice and funny. Aran liked her a lot, but she wasn't her mother. Nevertheless, she was her auntie figure. Aran grew up under her care for the next couple of years while taking an interest in performing, after years of watching her father.
School was okay. She wasn't the greatest student, but she wasn't the worst either. Aran was in the middle and she was fine about that. What she really cared about was music. Every second of the day she was free, Aran either slept or practiced. She knew that TVXQ's performances didn't come from just talent alone. Countless hours of practice had been spent on refining their faults to give a performance their fans would never forget.

It wasn't until she was fourteen that her father retired from performing and became not only a dance instructor, but a legend. Aran stopped living with Junsu's wife and she and her father returned to their old home after nine years. Since her father had much more free time, Aran spent a lot of time under his tutelage along with the other TVXQ members as an aspiring performer. If there was a single area that she was talented in, it was music. Aran's talents exponentially grew from studying under TVXQ and once she turned fifteen, she started performing.
The day she finally faced the stage was downright chilling, but in a good way. Aran was tnrilled by the stage, by the sounds that surrounded her that was her music, by the people that watched her with their faces in awe, and most of all, the proud face her father and the rest of TVXQ wore out in the audience. She was chilled to the bone by performing and she knew then that this was going to be her life from now on.

It wasn't a surprise that her popularity rose so quickly. Her father was a legend and Aran was simply a born singer. She performed in the other kingdoms too, along with a few overseas events. She was a star, she was loved, she was practically worshipped even, but she was missing something. Aran was missing something in her music. She was missing love- romantic love. That was the most popular concept after all. The Gathering was beginning to roll by and as usual, Gwangju held a music competition to choose its delegates. Her father and the rest of the TVXQ members suggested that she may be able to know about romantic love if she attended the Gathering. Desperate to improve her music, Aran entered the competition and with her talents, she had won. With a large breath, Aran readied herself to venture the unknown, no matter what was there, if only for the sake of her music.

family »

Father / Jung Yunho / 46 / Dance Instructor (Former Performer) / Passionate, Kind, Friendly
It wasn't until her mother's death that Aran and Yunho became close, only to part again. After he retired, Yunho spent a lot more time with his daughter and began to understand her more. Although he was a bit regretful that she grew up too fast, Yunho couldn't love her anymore than he already does. He adores her so much and watching her onstage reminded him of his early years. Right now, Yunho couldn't be any prouder of her. The only thing he hopes is that she meets a good man who will cherish her during the Gathering.

"Uncles" / TVXQ / 44-46 / Former Performers / Funny, Charismatic, Eccentric
Ever since she was born, Aran has known them and always thought of them as her uncles. They love to make her smile with their weirdness everyday and treat her as they would if she were their own daughter. While they can get a bit overprotective sometimes, Aran loves them all the same and the feeling is most definitely mutual.

"Aunt" / Ahn Heeyeon / 40 / Housewife (Former Performer) / Funny, Kind, Intelligent
Heeyeon's been Aran's aunt figure ever since she was eight years old. She loves her as if she were her own daughter and had taken care of her for many years before TVXQ retired. Even after TVXQ retired, Heeyeon still comes over time to time to see Aran. She even taught her a few things since she used to be a performer as well, but not to the level of TVXQ.

friends/rivals »

Little Sister Figure / Jung Seona / 16 / Princess of Cheonjiwang / Clumsy, Bizarre, Warm-Hearted
Aran had first met Seona during her concert in Cheonjiwang, but it wasn't until the Gathering that they became good friends. Usually, Aran is really careful around people, but not Seona. The Princess of Cheonjiwang was very transparent with her emotions and always sincere. Aran couldn't help but be captivated with her natural charm, but most of all, she was captivated by her selflessness. Aran's always done whatever she wanted, but seeing Seona made her think more about others. In a way, being around Seona changed her into a better person, made her less cold looking around others. Aran can't help but want to protect her new little sister.

Love Rival / Han Miji (FC: Seo Ji Hye)/ 19 / Court Lady of Ulsan (Delegate) / Manipulative, Cunning, Quiet
Miji had met Yoongi a few years ago and fell for him at first sight. He had travelled frequently due to the fact that his family dealt with the majority of the trade that came in and out of Daegu. They first met when she was assigned to give him a tour of Ulsan. As a court lady who had been given a position at an early age, many of the people of Ulsan speak badly of her. Yoongi defended her, causing Miji's current infatuation of him. During the Gathering, however, they began to drift apart due to Aran. Determined to make him hers, Miji is prepared to do everything she can.

the one and only.

love interest » BTS' Suga / Min Yoongi

backup love interest » Seventeen's S.coups

BIRTHDAY & AGE » March 9 & 19

NICKNAME(S) »

- Suga // his alias for his compositions.
-
Lazy // given to him by Aran because of his tendency to be extremely lazy. She called him this during their first training session together because he was being too slow for her. Later on, this becomes more affectionate.
KINGDOM » Kingdom of Daegu

HOW THEY BECAME A DELEGATE » Daegu couldn't send all of their royalty, so Yoongi was chosen alongside Taehyung because of his status as an influential noble of the kingdom.

FAMILY »

Father / Min Hyejoon / 50 / Owner of Daegu's main trading company, Lilac / Stern, Protective, Stubborn
They used to be very close until a few years ago. Instead of taking over Lilac, Yoongi wants to pursue a career in music like his sister had done. However, his father loathes the idea of music and wants his son to inherit Lilac because it was much more stable. They've been at odds and tensions rose between them because of it.

Mother / Lee Minhee / 45 / Housewife / Demure, Kind, Patient
She loves her son, but believes that music is too much for him. It's too flighty and unstable and she wouldn't be able to see him as much anymore, like her daughter. She doesn't oppose it as much as her husband, but the opposition is still there. Yoongi and his mother don't argue as much as he and his father, though, but they still have tensions between them.

Older Sister / Min Chaerin "CL" / 21 / Performer / Sassy, Hardworking, Supportive
Chaerin and Yoongi used to be extremely close when they were younger, but just a few years ago, she told their parents she wanted to pursue music after viewing a concert of G-Dragon's. At that time, Chaerin was the heiress to Lilac, so their parents refused. Since there was nothing she could do to convince them, she left and ran away to pursue music in Gwangju. Every now and then, unknown to their parents, Chaerin sends letters to him about her time and how happy she is. She supports his dream to pursue music whole-heartedly.

FRIENDS/RIVALS »

Little Brother Figure / Kim Taehyung / 17 / Student/Noble (Delegate) / Cheerful, Bizarre, Reckless
Since their parents work closely with the royal family, they were forced to spend time together when they were kids. Sometimes, Yoongi felt that Taehyung had too much energy for him to handle, but other times, he always made him smile. Since he's the older of the two, Yoongi is obligated to look after Taehyung, especially with the kid's recklessness. Nevertheless, at the end of the day, Yoongi is glad to be friends with an earnest guy like him.

Good Friends / Jung Daehyun / 20 / Prince of Cheonjiwang / Charming, Calm, Compassionate
They first met at the Gathering. Since Yoongi's the heir to Lilac, Daehyun made it one of his priorities to speak to him. At first, they simply spoke about business and were polite to each other, but after the subject of music came up, they quickly became good friends. Sometimes, Daehyun spoke to him about Taehyung as well, concerned about the young man his sister took an interest in. Yoongi was quick to assure him that his "little brother" was a good guy.

APPEARANCE » He may not be the best looking guy out there, but he always had this cool charm that not many others had. Yoongi's not the tallest guy, but he prides in the fact that he's taller than Aran, standing at 176 cm. He weighs a light 60 kg and took a liking to coloring his hair. Currently, it's a mint color that coincidentally matches Aran's kingdom color. He's not that fit, but he's well-conditioned due to Taehyung's father.

STYLE » He rarely wears his kingdom color, mostly because it tends to clash with his hair and even the people of Daegu agree. Usually, he just wears a pair of pants and a simple shirt to go. However, for special and formal occasions, he's usually forced to don a hanbok that's his kingdom's color or whatever else is available.

PERSONALITY »

Positive- Creative, Hardworking, Flexible, Sweet, Modest
Neutral- Independent, Observant, Casual
Negative- Lazy, Impatient, Blunt, Irritable, Messy

BACKGROUND »

Born as a Daegu man, Min Yoongi grew up in the higher society compared to most. His father was the owner of the kingdom's greatest trading company, so needless to say, there wasn't much else he really needed. He had a loving mother and a cool older sister. His father was a bit stern, but that was to be expected with the company and all. Yoongi was a good student, albeit a bit lazy, but he still managed to bring home good marks as expected of him. There weren't any troubles, really. At least, not until his teenage years. When he was sixteen, his sister had gone to see a concert of the famous G-Dragon of Seoul. She came back, announcing that she wanted to pursue music instead of taking over the company as planned. This brought upon the first shock in the household and their parents firmly made their decision- of course not. It was unstable and was unfit for a young woman born under a prestigious family. Yoongi was a bit torn on the subject. He supported his sister in the end, because music was what she wanted to do. If she didn't do what she wanted to do for the rest of her life, then what's the point? However, their parents wouldn't budge. Without saying a word, Chaerin left. Yoongi was hurt that she left without saying anything, not even a note! Since she left, his parents put their attention on him, preparing him to become the next owner of Lilac. He travelled here and there, accompanying his father to speak about trade for Daegu. It was okay, but it wasn't what he wanted to do. When he turned seventeen, his world changed. A young performer from Gwangju had came to perform her own song in Daegu. Yoongi couldn't help but become curious, perhaps his sister had come? After all, the letters she had sent said that she fled to Gwangju, the kingdom of music. He went and watched the concert, only to see someone else. However, that someone else changed his entire world. She was only fifteen, Jung Aran, and she was the daughter of the legendary performer Yunho of TVXQ. The way she fluidly moved across the stage and sang her heart out as if it were her last performance- it was captivating. The sounds echoed through his ears and he was reminded that the girl on stage had wrote this song. Yoongi was inspired (infires man!) by the passionate girl on stage. He understood why his sister wanted it so bad and now, he wanted it too. Knowing that he'll have to tell them sometime, Yoongi informed his parents of his decision. Of course, they were completely opposed to it. First their daughter and now, their last hope of moving on Lilac? In rebellion, he started coloring his hair and began writing compositions secretly. Yoongi began to sell his music under his new alias as a songwriter, Suga, and his songs sold rapidly. Later, when he turned nineteen, Yoongi was chosen as a delegate for Daegu because they had ran out of royalty to send, but needed more delegates. Needless to say, he didn't like the idea, but after hearing Jung Aran was going to be there, he was much more cooperative.

LOVE STORY »

Yoongi first saw Aran on stage when they were seventeen and fifteen respectively. She was the one who had gotten Yoongi into music in the first place. He wanted to meet her and perhaps she could even perform one of his songs. With the Gathering, it was his one and only opportunity. He arrived at Jeju and immediately tried to strike up conversation with her, but failed because she was always surrounded by the other delegates who were big fans. It wasn't until a few days after that Yoongi finally caught her alone. However, he had saw her practicing early in the morning. Usually he'd be asleep, but his assistant was insistent that he awake at the crack of dawn. He watched as Aran had gone through the motions of her newer songs with sharpness and precision that belonged to a marksman. However, as she spun around, Aran had caught sight of him and stumbled in surprise. Immediately, she reverts into her aloof little shell of hers with practiced caution and carefully approaches conversation with him. Aran had asked what he was doing there and how long he had been watching. Slightly dazed, Yoongi answered her questions in his usual casual manner. She nodded and faced an inner conflict of whether to wait until he left to keep practicing or not. However, her inner banter was cut short with his request to study music under her. Yoongi expressed his desire to pursue music and Aran couldn't help but smile at the look in his eyes when he had said those words. He held the same passion she did. Unable to refuse, Aran agreed to tutor him the musical ways of Gwangju. Needless to say, their first training session was a complete mess. He certainly had potential, but he was... lazy. It was like his body couldn't move per his commands or something. Aran couldn't help but feel a little exapserated, having never met such a lazy person and even called him so. It felt right that way. After their little dance training came the more vocal skills. Aran was pleasantly surprised at his aptitude for rap and his singing wasn't... bad. However, she was blown out of the water by his compositions. Back in Gwangju, compositions by a songwriter signed "Suga" had begun to become the most popular over a short period of time. At that, Aran vowed to herself that she would get him on stage one day, performing his own self-written songs. Nothing was a better feeling, nothing. Over time, however, things started becoming... different. It was like she had begun to start feeling more conscious of herself, of him. It was the same for Yoongi. He couldn't help but notice all the little things about his sunbae.
(So, knowing that you probably have ideas just bursting through your head, I'm going to end it here and let you finish their story bestie ;) .)

Aran's weirdly placed naps // He could never say what he wanted in time before she fell asleep.
-
Dance practice // He could never look cool in front of her with his dance skills
-
When you want to stay in your warm bed but end up practicing outside in the cold // Combine it with early mornings and you get a very irritated Yoongi.
-
Having the pressure of the company being pushed onto him // He waned to pursue music after all!

Habits »

- Watching over Aran whenever she naps at weird intervals of the day in weird places. He always ends up doing this for some reason. Well, you never know what would happen!
- Cursing at whoever interrupts his sacred slumber... unless it's Aran. He has a soft spot like that.

Hobbies »

- Composing
- Trying to get Aran to laugh
- Practicing under Aran

etc »

- He may or may not have been hooked onto cheesecake because of Daehyun and Aran.

- Haha, anyway, Yoongi's not well versed in the manipulative mess that is the Gathering, but he is pretty good at speaking with others since he's been dealing with trade since he was young alongside his father. Other than that, he doesn't have the kind of political power that Daehyun has, or even Seona, but being the son of Daegu's largest trading company can do some things (hint hint).

last words.

comments/suggestions » Hey Megu, just wanted to come by and drop you an app! Good luck on your applyfic! Also, hope you don't mind that Aran and Yoongi aren't as involved in politics since I'm sure you wanted a blend of characters.

scene requests » Haha, you do what you do, but I would love a little tea party scene where Seona, Daehyun, Yoongi, Taehyung, Aran, and Daehyun's future wife sit around drinking tea and eating cheesecake haha. That would really be cute. Actually, maybe you could just throw in all the delegates if you can!
