Lovelyz, Seventeen & Twice Comeback Reviews

(Disclaimer: I do not hate Lovelyz, Twice or Seventeen, I like the three groups. But the following may offend some Lovelinus, ONCE and Carot....maybe JYP Stans as well..... If I do, I apologise in advance and hope this won't be taken harshly. It is, however, a matter of opinion and my first reviews.)

Lovelyz, Seventeen and Twice have recently comeback on the same day (Technically not, Seventeen uploaded their MV earlier than the other two). All three groups are basically gonna cause a big fan war in April, soon BTS and April are gonna join (That's all the other groups I know who are gonna comeback afterwards). I will be giving a ranking out of 5 for their song and music video (I'm not going to do choreography because I'm not good at judging choreography overall)

Lovelyz came back with Destiny. The song overall is beautiful and catchy, it reminds me a lot of anime songs and this is full of J-Pop inspiration. I love it! Although the chorus tends to be a bit repetitive, it's enough to give it power. I've seen from a few comments on the video that Kei or Jin should've done a high note, but I didn't think it was needed. First, the song was already powerful in terms of its concept and especially backing tracks, having a high note would kind of overwhelm the song, in my opinion. The only thing that brings it down is the backing track. It's a lovely and beautiful track but it's too strong and overpowers Lovelyz' voices, but I only had that problem in the chorus. The song overall I give it 4/5

I'm a big fan of artsy music videos, especially with lots of symbolism. Lovelyz tends to use certain key items or motifs for their music video. For example Candy and colourful balls in Candy Jelly Love, bubbles, feathers and flowers in Hi~, Hiding in the most ridiculously way in Ah-Choo, and Masen Jars in For You. This time, there's marbles and anything that can spin. Much like their concept, It's a unique video that does tend to look simple but how it was produced was beautifully done. From the symbolism to the post-production, it was beautiful. Although there were a lot of fans who got dizzy after watching the video because of the spinning. I actually get motion sick but it didn't really affect me as much as I thought it would. For that, I'll give it a 5/5.

Seventeen came back with Pretty U. I'm gonna be honest, it wasn't as good as their previous songs. It was ok at first listen but a few more listens and it got to me. Although it wasn't as good as Mansae or Adore U, it was still a decent song. I love the groovy backing track and especially vocals. The rapping seems a bit out of place at some points, but sometimes it smoothly flows. I've seen the live performance, and I prefer it live than the actual studio version. It has so much energy that I was looking for. My only complaint is that the song is a bit forgettable...which is the main thing that downs it. I'm still jamming to Mansae after it but Pretty U isn't a bad song. I'll give the song 4/5.

I love the music video. Personally, I like it when groups release a music video that shows the viewers that they're having so much fun. The video was such a fun and Mingyu is so cute >.< . There's not much to the music video so it did bore me at some points, but not enough to stop the video. I have no complaints with the music video so I'll give it a 4/5.

Twice came back with "Cheer Up!" This is where ONCE will bash me, but everyone has different music tastes. So once again I'm sorry in advance if I have offended you. The song...isn't that great. Compared to "Like Ohh Ahh", it's just another song. Because of the hype, I was expecting a lot but I was disappointed with the overall song. It had so much potential but it was missing something in the song. "Like Ohh Ahh" was ok at first listen but now it's got me singing along. "Cheer Up!" on the other hand, I wasn't feeling it. I really tried to like the song, I really did but it just didn't work for me. I've actually had to listen to the song more than ten times and I still found the song very forgettable and monotonous. Maybe it's because of the fact that I don't enjoy the majority of the songs that JYP produces. The backing track was unique (almost like an alien theme) and had reminiscence to "Like Ohh Ahh" but not as great. There was something lacking in the song that I can't find something that it'll fix it. So for that, I'll give the song 3/5.

The music video, however, was very creative. I really enjoyed the special effects with changing the concept of the video. Not your average music video. I'm going to be very honest, I've never watched the music video for Like Ohh Ahh. *gasp* I know I feel guilty and probably going to get a lot of hate because of it. However, my reason was because I have Kinemortophobia, the fear of zombies. I tend to get paranoid when I see one or something that looks like a zombie and it goes to the point where it gets serious. But "Cheer Up!" was a bit different, there were no zombies (which I'm glad there wasn't because zombies are the most overrated concept, I'm not only talking about K-pop but in gaming and movies) it was a very interesting and fun video. It looked like Twice was having fun and that's a great thing. My main complaint is that the video feels a bit forced, like the director was trying to do something unique. But for some reason, it style of different themes reminded me of another song but I can't remember what it was. But overall it was a great video. I'll give it a 5/5

How did you like my reviews? Did you guys agree or disagree? Let me know down in the comments. Once again, I apologise if I had offended any ONCE. I really like Twice, but their latest song didn't do any justice but if they worked on the song a bit then it would've been a great song. Seventeen's Pretty U was pretty good and had the energy yet calmness I like, and  Lovelyz ' Destiny was amazing, just a few touch ups and it'll be perfect.

Anyways, MyLovelyGyu signing out~

Is it just me or did the opening of Cheer Up sort of sounded like Ohh Ahh? Anyway good points. I'm a Lovelinus and I did watch all three MVs, though I'm not an Once or Carot, I am fans of their music and members~ I agree that the soundtrack/instrument was a bit too powerful and sort of overshadowed Lovelyz's vocals >_< But it was still amazing nonetheless. The lyrics itself for Destiny is so deep and beautiful~ I hope they get their first win even though Seventeen and Twice fandoms are bigger >_<

I agree with you about Seventeen's comeback song. I mean I like the song but it's kinda forgettable than Mansae And Adore U. Pretty U isn't a bad song after all but yeah.. As for Lovelyz and TWICE, I haven't listened to their song yet. But I love Lovelyz's teaser videos. It sounds catchy to my ears and I'm looking forward to watch their new MV.
