appearance : chae hyungtaek looks pretty common in appearance; he isn't particularly tall or short, nor categorized as having a great visual. however, many say his bright eye smile is cute, that eventually gains him a confidence to ask a girl out somehow. in term of fashion, hyungtaek is also far from a good dresser. he will most likely use whatever comfortable to him, it won't be a big deal whether he uses the same t-shirt throughout a whole week. when wearing school's uniform, he tend to untuck his shirt and look messy, earning a lot of warn from the disciplinary teacher. 

chae hyungtaek was born and grew up in a full-gwangju-blooded family, so it's explainable how he often slips out a jeolla accent whenever he's excited, despite of living in the metropolitan seoul city for more than ten years. hyungtaek's personality is like a sun; he's bubbly, friendly and know how to keep the atmosphere up, the perfect type you want to have as a friend except his tendency to become nosy at times. his nickname 'cheaptaek' originally comes from his extremely talkative nature which resulting his mouth being cheap oftentimes, spreading any rumous be it about school or even idols dating news in general. in a word, hyungtaek is the worst at keeping secrets. however due to it, he earns his place at the school's broadcasting club and being favored as 'reportaek', the one who runs the school's radio, reporting any recent news and gossips happening at school.

hyungtaek is a boy with a lot of curiousity, he claims that he has a good sense in analysing people and gets easily challenged when something pique on his interest. that's why when the rumour about the deceased student went big, instead of being scared he eagers to find more about it; hyungtaek isn't even afraid to go to school at night to find clues. some people say he's way too stubborn but hyungtaek is not a person to believe in ghosts and such.

a little information about his family, hyungtaek has three older sisters and all of them are chatters, including his mother and father. having hyungtaek alone has already noisy so imagine to be around five alike of him. hyungtaek himself loves to play outside than spending time at home, but it's no doubt that the talkative gene indeed runs in chae family. all in all, it's a happy family.

chae hyungtaek's death → one evening, hyungtaek is dj-ing the school's radio and being his usual bubbly self, joking around with his jeolla dialect and reminding the listeners about the school's upcoming events. nothing unusal, at least everything goes well until he decides to share a story about the deceased yoo jung. he doesn't think much about it though, but when something strangely gets stucked on his throat in the middle of his story telling, he knows something goes wrong. he coughes a few times but the pain is just getting worse as if someone choke him hard, he doesn't even have a chance to catch a breath. things get even worse but when he tries to shout a help, his voice just won't come out. all the radio listeners witness hyungtaek's suffocated voice but before they able to realize what exactly is going on, hyungtaek's voice only lasts for a few seconds and everything goes silent. ever since hyungtaek is found dead, the school's radio has been completely shut off and abandoned.

"i don't think this is right, hyungtaek ah," might probably the most overused line we can hear from this childhood friend of hyungtaek, who seems to oppose every hyungtaek's attempt to find out what lies behind the yoo jung's rumour. baek junho is a timid person, and although he believes one will pay the price for poking the deceased soul, he always ends up sticking to hyungtaek in the most nerve-wrecking situation. on the outside, their friendship may seems more like a boss and lackey, having hyungtaek as the boss and junho as the lackey, but it's just because they have a very different personalities, or junho is just too kind that makes him look easy. → baek junho / 3-1 class / fc: jimin (bts)

do you know yoo jung, the deceased student of 1996? : "you mean the legendary yoo jung who was died on a fire back in 1996 but mysteriously showed up on the graduation picture that left goosebumps? oh, and how could i not know? it's the hottest topic among our class, recently! *slowing down, thinking* i've seen that sunbae's photo on the students book in our teacher's room and like everyone's said, he's indeed good-looking. well i guess he was a popular student back then?"

if so, when did you discover about the tragedy? : "i heard about the rumour somewhere... i didn't remember when but it was floating around between the graduate students. i have an itchy feeling about that so i purposedly help out our homeroom teacher to ask him what was going on back then. all he/she said it was just a coincidence but i had a feeling that he/she just wanted to believe that it was. *look around* you know, i especially have a good sense at this, *lean forward and whisper* our homeroom teacher looked nervous when i asked him/her about it. there must be something."

what do you think of kim yoojung? : "kim yoojung... most of the kids say she is too plain, quiet, and hard to befriend with but of course *crossing arm* that's not a problem for me, chae hyungtaek. sometimes i try to be friendly by asking *ugh, forcing* her to have lunch with me, but it seems like she is uncomfortable with it. i often get ignored but it doesn't matter though, i can always find another way to talk to her later."

do you think kim yoojung is related to yoo jung? : "at first, i really never think that they are related because it's not like there are only two yoojung exist in the entire nation of south korea. i have a niece named yoojung too, is she related too? *laughed* i used to think that it was no sense but looking at how the teachers oddly get sensitive over it, i think there is something more to it? kim yoojung is somehow suspicious too, that's why i often make an attempt to get some information from her but she always pushes me away... *sigh* it just makes me even more curious."

(hyungtaek is too nosy to get girls interested in her, or his bromance with junho is too dazzling for girls to handle.))

last comments : honestly i haven't watched the anime you are referring to, but this story's idea is pretty good! i'm such a coward myself so i might not able to bear watching a horror anime otl i write hyungtaek as that typical student at class who likes running around at the hallway and delivers every juicy gossip to class heheh anyway, good luck in writing the fic and i hope you enjoy reading chae hyungtaek!

→ hyungtaek and junho went to school at night to find clues, but since junho kept crying and being a scaredy cat, they aborted the mission just when they reached the school's gate. both of them went home bickering, and without realizing there was a pair of eyes watching them from afar at the school's building...
→ one mysterious death that lead someone innocent getting caught by the police during investigation. yoojung wanted to help out this friend and hyungtaek helped her (they might get closer after this).
→ yoojung told hyungtaek about his death but hyungtaek responded otherwise by challanged it back.
