"When all else fails, make 'em laugh." : The first thing you notice about Carter: She's very respectful and obedient. BACKGROUND
"Army Brat": Being conceived at the time Carter was, well, uh, an accident. It's not that her parents didn't want to have her, but Carter's dad, though, was doing military service, and they decided to forego a and nine months later while her father is overseas, out comes baby Carter. So for the first two years and seven months of her life, it was just her and her mom. Nick was supposed to have a longer enlistment time, but he was shot in the leg on duty and was discharged and came back home, and he definitely made up for lost time because not only did he become a stay at home dad while his leg recovered, by the time Carter's fourth birthday was nearing, out came her sister, Laurel. And after that, once Nick's leg healed up, he got a job as a History teacher at a high school, and things were relatively normal after that. Carter first shown an interest in dance, and of course, as most parents do, they started her in dance lessons.
"A-annyeong...?": At age ten, Carter's life took an unexpected turn. Her mom was offered a job as head of the Seoul branch of her company, and it would involve moving, but with a whole lot more benefits than the position she had in Atlanta. It took about a year, but soon enough, Carter and her family were packed up and swept into a high end townhouse in the center of Seoul. Nick was able to secure a part time job as an English teacher at a private school, and the girls took Korean lessons and he homeschooled them until Carter began high school, and Laurel would follow suit so Nick could start full time at his job. While confusing and difficult, and obviously irritating, but her father would make it easier by playing the popular music at the time. Carter could easily pick up on the lyrics, being sort of a mimic and was able to learn the language easier that way.
"Music will set you free.": Starting high school was difficult for Carter at first. The other kids would for her strange looks. She recalls being called a mutt or mixed breed many times when she first started at her school. It hurt, definitely. And she thought that she was only person in the world that would be treated this way, and she was honestly scared for her sister and didn't want this happening to her.
But one day, after school, she was upset and angry and pretty much ready to punch the next person who tugged on her pigtails or barked at her. And life has a funny way of giving you chances to do that. She ran into a scene she knew all too well: four boys ganging up on one, but then she noticed their barking noises, and looked over -- he was like her. Suddenly the little boy wasn't just like her, but her sister, teary eyed and arms bracing for a physical attack. And boy, did she let that anger out that day. She had a busted up knee, bruised cheek, and a busted lip, but the boy was unscathed and that was all she could ask for. The boy became her best friend, and his name was Vernon. He was the same age as his sister, and after that Carter sort of became his guardian, keeping an eye out for him.
"Find your dream.": But my god, did she ever get a talking to and get in trouble for fighting with her school. Since she was a pretty good student, and she was just protecting a younger student, they let her off with a warning, but strongly advised that her parents found her an outlet to keep her out of trouble during the school afternoons. So her parents decided to reenroll her in dance, after all, she loved it when she was younger, and her father also insisted on putting her in taekwondo classes for self defense. So she was pretty busy after school, but Vernon would tag along every so often and a pretty cute little brother to her. Instead of ballet, which she loved, she was enrolled in modern and contemporary dance. And she fell in love really fast, finding dance to be a really positive outlet (and the taekwondo wasn't too shabby for her anger either.) Carter was even allowed on the dance academy's special dance team that performed at competitions. And that's where she was discovered.
"So dream. You never know.": After nine months on the dance competition, she was approached by a JYP representative, asking if she'd be interested in auditioning. She said she'd consider it, after talking to her parents. They encouraged her to go for it, after all, it was a great opportunity, and her high school graduation was right around the corner, so she'd be set with something to work towards. So she went to the audition... And didn't get in. But she didn't feel like she should give up. Disappointed, yes. She'd just have to keep trying. So she started working harder at dance, dropping taekwondo to put more hours in at her passion. She was given the solo spot at another competition, and she was approached by another representative, but this time from SM. He offered her a pass for their next audition, so she accepted and went. This time, they saw something and she was admitted in as a trainee.

FAMILY RELATIONS :
+ Captain Dad! / Nicolas "Nick" Benedict / 50 — Stay at home dad, part-time History teacher : hard-working, passionate, witty, generous.
Carter sees nothing but the good in the world because of her father, who's been through so much but is still able to smile and go about life with a positive attitude. He cares and worries about his kids so much, because he feels at fault for her troubles. It's his side that they're teasing, and he just gets so upset that there are people in the world like that. The fact that she stood up for herself and for someone else made him sure that she was going to be okay. And looking at her now, he couldn't be prouder.
+ Working Mom / Haeeun "Hannah" Benedict / 46 — Supervisor of Microsoft Development, Seoul Branch : intelligent, socialble, concerned, sassy.
While her mom is usually really busy, it was her mom that inspired her to go after and be ambitious. Her mother works hard and is very smart, two traits that Carter tries to imitate and use in her own right. Her mother is a bit more of a "tough love" kind of parent, but it helped Carter and her sister get on the right track to standing up for themselves and believing in their dreams.
+ Baby Sister / Laurel "Nana" Benedict / 17 — student : sassy, mischevious, happy, forgetful.
Precious baby Laurel would forget her head if it wasn't attached to her body. She's got more of her mom in her than Carter, but is just as sweet as her father is. While Laurel has an easier time in school than Carter did, the older constantly worries and tries to check in with her younger sister, just to make sure that she's doing okay. She also reminds her of important dates, because Laurel is always forgetting.
FRIEND / OTHER RELATIONS :
+ Best Friend <3 / Vernon Choi / 17 — student, trainee : mischevious, sarcastic, charming, easily manipulated.
Vernon is literally Carter's best friend ever. They are self proclaimed platonic soulmates and would do just about anything for each other. If Carter's nose is shoved in her phone during breaks or in the car, it's probably her talking to this boy. Vernon sees her as this older sister figure and admires her and her abilities, and Carter just dotes on Vernon like another younger sibling. Vernon says he will be a really big fanboy of Phantasia and promises to buy all their albums, but he wants anyone BUT Carter's photocard as a joke.
+ Loooove me! / Seo Eungi / 20 — fellow groupmate : humorous, playful, nosy, humble.
They have a relationship similar to Jackson and Mark. While Eungi takes the role of Jackson, being playful and enticing Carter to play, Carter takes the plunge as a Mark type, quiet but easily loud when paired with Eungi. Carter greatly cares for Eungi and really likes how happy Eungi can be all the time, and strives to keep a smile on like her as well. These two can get a little out of hand sometimes, causing a bit of chaos when provoked. It's adorable to see these two jump around each other, though.
+ Unnieee TT^TT / Tiffany Hwang / 26 — idol, SNSD&TTS : silly, generous, maternal, pushy.
As a fellow English speaker, Tiffany definitely sat down and helped Carter with her Korean and encouraged her in English. She constantly pushes Carter to go and talk and meet people, and so she did, starting with Eungi. And that's how that relationship started. Tiffany really helped Carter out as SM, and made her feel safe in a new environment. She does like to poke around little miss Carter's business though, constantly asking how she is, if she's eaten, are you busy, and of course "are we going to find you a boyfriend soon?" which Carter just sputters and flops about at.

If there's one person that Carter desperately wants approval and attention from, it's BoA. This woman can do it all, and all Carter wants to do is BE her, or at least be like her. Of course, at first, everyone was critical of Carter, and while she was great at dancing, she wasn't a strong vocalist and was criticized by her vocal teachers constantly for scoring low on her evaluations. It didn't help that she missed Vernon, she missed her family, and honestly, she was even missing the dull consistentcy of school. But her dance instructors adored the girl, constantly recommending her for backup dancers in the company, which encouraged her a lot to keep going through this process. When she met Tiffany through an evaluation, and the elder decided to help her out and check in on her, she decided that, gosh darn it, so what if the world was against her. She was going to debut, so many people that she actually cared about were for her success, and that was enough to keep her going. And soon she improved in a lot of areas, and they noticed her potential as a rapper. She could talk fast and in time, and sure, she slurred a bit, but that wouldn't hinder anything if she kept training. So SM put her in a focus on rap and dance, noticing that she excelled in these areas, and even took the time to check on other trainees and help them when their instructors pointed out mistakes or weak points. Her main instructors began putting her in charge of groups when needed, and it wasn't hard for her to take on the leader role. As a strong trainee after some time, SM placed her in SMrookies, keeping a close eye on her as she continued to improve and help others improve. Her confirmation as a member in the lineup of Phantasia was confirmed before her leader position was. She'd trained fairly long, she was one of the older girls, and she was naturally able to pull the girls together. She was a good choice, they thought.

Jimin is the definition of a cinnamon roll that is too good, too pure for this world. He's charming, with his cute smile and shy tendencies when you first meet him, you can't help but want to know him. He's also super easy to get along with, and goes along with being the of the jokes, making fun of himself and others without feeling hurt. After you get to know him, he's silly and likes to have fun, willing to be a bit strange or out there in order to get a laugh or two out of everyone. Jimin is full of energy, constantly doing something or moving something, the kid can't sit still. If you ever need a pick me up or a positive ray of sunshine, Jimin's the guy to go to. He's sweet and will cheer you up in whatever way he can. He hates seeing people upset and puts them as his priority, especially if they're his friends.
One thing about Jimin is that he's critical, especially of himself. He won't directly criticize you, instead saying "i must of been off if you didn't do it either, i'm sorry" because he thinks it must of been his fault that you did something wrong. He does get upset over comments about his height or his weight, or just his general appearance. Another thing is that Jimin is childish despite not being the maknae. He has a very innocent approach that's almost naive and it's infuriating to some people. He whines when he doesn't get his way and he clings. Oh man is Jimin a clingy person. When he likes you, he won't let go. Ever. He just doesn't want you to disappear, but it can be too much at times and drives some people away.

...carter and jimin first met at phantasia's first end of the year awards show. she was honestly really excited about this, and was seen bouncing around backstage, and jimin, j-hope, and v were preparing for their own stage. carter just happened to run into them while they were headed towards the stage. flustered, she bowed, apologizing and then greeting them, to which they introduced themselves, with j-hope cooing over how cute she was, instantly becoming her friend. the boys promised to keep a close eye on phantasia, and carter did the same for bts. the reaction cams showed that both sides were impressed by the other's stages.

..being their bubbly selves, when phantasia and bts were guests on the same shows, it was easy for them to get close and play around, but carter also got along with a lot of the energetic members, namely j-hope since they were both so dance focused. with that in mind, carter was much closer to j-hope than jimin for a really long time. especially since j-hope had this ability to really work with the dancer and bring out her confidence and silly side.
they'd be seen going to dance sessions and lessons at a local studio just for fun, she and j-hope. of course they made it very clear that they were only friends, j-hope comparing her to his sister and carter comparing him to her best friend, vernon. so it wasn't uncommon to see the two being weird backstage, or even carter visiting bighit a couple of times. it was cute, seeing bts being such good friends with a girl group, especially since they've mentioned it was hard for them to get close to other groups because of their image.
what was hilarious, though, is that carter had never seen any of bts' mvs. ever. none, nada. she had seen them perform live and that was more than enough for her. but when j-hope figured that out, he made her sit down and watch ALL of the mvs. every single one. when they got around to 'dope' was when he noticed that her jaw was a bit slack and her eyes flicked about the scene, but was trained on someone in the group. He couldn't really tell who, but he anyways. "Are we that good, huh? Tell me, tell me!" He joked, before moving on to the last mv, Run. and then and there he found out who she couldn't stop staring at: park jimin.
"Yaaah, you have six other boys and you pick the actual innocent one, incredible." he teased, smiling as he watched carter blush and squirm when she was caught. "i, uh, i..." she stumbled for words, trying to find an excuse, but it was too late. after that, j-hope decided to play matchmaker. in his mind they were perfect for each other, because jimin would never hurt carter and she wouldn't try and ruin him in one go.
CONCLUSION :
it takes FOREVER to get them together, okay, because j-hope is more or less just trying to embarrass the two and carter's crush ebbed and grew throughout her time with being friends with him. jimin started liking her maybe a year after her initial interest, more or less. it was during one of the cocoa's unit's promotions, and he noticed that carter wasn't just that flustered newbie at that awards show. she was confident and wow, was she always that pretty? but with j-hope trying to be matchmaker, it was pretty much just the two being flustered and constantly embarrassed around each other. so jimin decided to take the inititive and ask her to hang out on their own time.
of course when fans saw these two together, they swarmed and asked what they were doing out together. jimin was easy going about the situation, smiling and saying that they were just running errands and decided that two people could get them done faster, and then they went on their way. jimin was a bit jittery, of course, not knowing how to actually admit he had a bit of a crush, so he did it in a kind of cliche way.
she was observing a family on the playground, giggling and talking about how she and her family would do that when she was younger, and mentioning how she'd like to do that with her future family when her children were small. jimin took a leap of faith and backhugged her, nodding. "I'd like to do that too."
"Jimin?" carter was shocked, turning around to face him. he blushed brightly. "I... I might not be the one you have a family with, but... I'd like to have the chance to be him."
