APPEARANCE / Carter is definitely someone that stands out, and not because she's beautiful. Sure, she's pretty, but it's also pretty painfully obvious that she's of foreign descent. With an heart shaped face and large brown eyes, it's hard to miss. Another dead giveaway? Her blonde hair. It's her natural hair color, but occasionally she'll darken it to brown or dye it red. It depends, really. She's about average height and on the skinny side, but with her wider hips and her chest, which stands at a C cup, it's obvious that puberty is hitting her hard and fast. She has a light smattering of freckles across her face and a birthmark on her neck, and her ears are both pierced. Yes, people do get the wrong idea when they see it. 

STYLE / Carter really likes fashion, so she keeps up with all the latest trends and cute things in fashion magazines. She's especially fond of types of jackets, like cardigans, university jackets, leather jackets, pullovers, etc. etc. She's actually quite girly and when not in the Academy uniform can be seen in skirts and dresses more often than not. PERSONALITY / Carter has this thing of never not smiling. Seriously, her catchphrase is "Smile until something good happens!" so she's pretty much this ball of sunshine and cheer wherever she goes. If you ever have a bad day, you go to her because her smile and good mood is practically a virus and you'll leave her presence feeling a lot better than you did before you got there. Oh my god, this girl's blood is a steady stream of caffeine and sugar because she does not stop. Carter is always go go go go GO and there is no such thing as a red light unless you overload her, but more on that later. It makes her really good for physical activities and considering her background, she probably had a lot of training keep that energy level up. Mom? Do you need mom? Okay here comes Carter, actual mom. She has very strong maternal intitution and will baby you if you're younger than her. She just has a strong caring instinct and doesn't hestiate to pull the mom card if anyone tries to make it. Bad things? What bad things? Bad things are just happy accidents, no trouble! Carter is ever optimistic and always on the bright side of life, she does not want to be a debby downer because anything's possible. (carter: "The word impossible even has 'i'm possible' in it!") She seriously just genuinely believes that everything will work out in the end, and even then, things happen for a reason. Modesty gets you places, and Carter has humility under her belt. She appreciates comments and will accept them with a smile, but never boasts her talents or skills without solid reason or prolongs her victories and achievements. She prefers to cheer on others instead of trying to bring fame onto herself. 

This girl... will fall for anything. Literally. Anything, even if it's the stupidest thing in the entire world, if you tell it to her with a straight face, her eyes will get even wider and rounder and she'll just ask "Really??? Are you serious???" over and over, genuinely believing that the sky actually turns green on a solar eclipse or that worms actually are more intelligent than dolphins. Carter is by far the easiest to prank in the entire Academy, and the little mischevious ones make a huge ordeal of the entire thing. Don't touch Carter's things. Ever. She's SO possessive of what's hers and makes a point to label her things in her favorite color (carter: orange, of course!!) with her full name in order to make sure no one touches anything that's actually hers without her permission. It sometimes crosses over to her friends, makign her clingy and can scare others off when provoked. She has this mentality of "...But I was here first no go away." when it comes to things and people. They say that even the brightest smile hides darkness, and hers is no exception. Because of her mixed hertitage, she was seen as ugly, as someone who didn't belong. An outsider. She's very insecure of her looks and her presentation, which is why she's so obsessed with her appearance and if she looks good. She constantly seeks validation that she does belong in many ways and it's something that can destroy you from the inside out if you don't stop it. Because of her insecurity, anxiety is very rampant in her emotions. As mom, she also worries over everyone as well, especially her friends and family. It's a switch she just can't turn off, because once one source of anxiety and panic is settled, here comes another one barrelling through her mind. As a teenager, emotions are rampant and horomones aren't easily controlled. It's like a war in your head, and Carter's no exception. She feels a lot and expresses only the good emotions, pushing the bad ones down and it sometimes overwhelms her and makes her feel all of those bad emotions all at once and it's very fun. So her emotions are in a fragile state and she's constantly trying to figure out how to put them together. 

LIKES /

— Coffee. She LOVES caffeine, especially in the form of coffee and if you bring it to her she will love you forever.

— Audrey Hepburn. This woman is Carter's idol, she adores all of Hepburn's movies and hopes to be able to do even half of the good that Audrey Hepburn did in the world. 

— Music, any kind, any genre. She's partial to Hip Hop and Broadway though. (carter: Have you heard of Hamiliton???!)

— Feeling validated, whether it be in her looks or in her relationships with others.

— Making others smile, because everyone's better when they're happier!

— Labels. Like, the actual kind of labels you stick on things. like her stuff. yeah, hers. You can't miss the bright orange tag that clearly labels "CARTER'S" stuff from literally everyone else's.

— Cats. She named Vernon's cat, and the boy was dumb enough to keep the name. 

— Shopping, it's a bonding experience with her. If you can survive shopping with Carter, you can brave anything else in life.

— People disturbing her naps (when she manages to get one in). like no sir, it is time for sleep not anything else. you may see yourself out.

— If you can't find her and you can't hear her talking, chances are she's probably climbing things. Like she's literally gotten onto the roof of her school because she found a ledge and was like "hey, i bet i could get on the roof if i kept going..." and she just does it. 

— ALERT ALERT CARTER IS A CLOSET ERT. She has a bunch of saved fanfiction and a few weird dirty romance novellas stashed away in a box under her bed. She tries to hide them with makeup magazines and fashion magazines and books to be safe. 

— If you give Carter enough coffee, she gets REALLY hyper and REALLY affectionate and loses her filter and things get a little weird after that -- then a couple hours later, if you survive, you can witness Carter dropping like a hot skillet biscuit onto the ground or whatever's below her and on her thumb because she's an actual five year old.

— Her proudest moment in her life thus far is the fact that she can fit a whole cinnamon roll in in one go, it's said that her flexibility just stRECHES TO . (look friends idk how she does it either but it's incredible and she can down like five of them she's giving jin a run for his money here.)

— Is an asymptomatic carrier of haemophilia. Her father has the condition, and so he jokes that Carter has to do all the tough guy stuff for him since she can actually handle a bruise.

BACKGROUND /  Carter was born into this world on the Fourth of July, which is ironic in about every way since not only was she born in America but to a Captain of the American Navy. Unfortunately for this little one, she was a last ditch effort to save her parent's falling apart marriage. At age 4, Lee Yoojin, Carter's real non, filed for divorce against Daniel Benedict, the case being settled relatively quickly and the two were officially seperated before the year was out. Yoojin then disappeared from Carter's life forever, leaving no means of contact for her child and Daniel with no real means of being able to raise her, so his sister took care of her while he finalized papers to retire and become an off duty captain so he could be with his little girl..

Before they were finalized, however, Benedict was transferred, ironically, to South Korea, where Carter's mother was from. The ordeal was above her father's head, so reluctantly the two packed up and moved to Seoul, where Daniel then worked as a lecturer at the Naval Academy there. So he still needed someone to pick Carter up from school and spend time with her before he came back from work, but luckily in their little townhouse complex, there was a high schooler named Kim Taeyeon who loved kids, and from then on became Carter's babysitter.

Taeyeon first expressed concern to Daniel over Carter's habits in school during the younger girl's late elementary/early middle school years. As bright as Carter was outside of school hours, when speaking about school or the action of physically going to school would make the girl become withdrawn and reluctant to do anything involving going near her school. Daniel wasn't one to force her to say anything, so when she refused to talk about it, he let the subject drop while keeping a closer eye on her. Her withdrawn tendencies started to overtake her usual personality, making her sad and uninterested in anything, and that's when Daniel decided to be that snoopy parent. She had social media, and so he went to check... and was shocked at what he found. As it turns out, Carter was being bullied for her looks. Words like "mutt", "half-breed", "ugly" and the like were all being thrown at her, because she didn't look like them, because she didn't belong. Daniel noted that it was mostly the boys picking on her and giving her a hard time, and was furious.

He had no idea what to do with this information now that he possessed it. After all, he was a popular boy in school and had no problems with bullies or being picked on. So he went to Taeyeon, asking her what to do and if it was his fault. First, Taeyeon told him that it wasn't his fault, that it was the immaturity of the kids and the other parent's fault for not teaching their children to be kinder to people just because they appeared different. Taeyeon then suggested her alma mater, an all girls school (with a strictly enforced no bullying policy) that was located nearby, and arrangements were quickly made.

Because of the bullying, her father was concerned whether or not she could defend herself, and looked for the best martial arts academy he could find... Which brings us to the Royal Pheonix Academy. Yes, Carter Benedict used to attend the mortal enemy school of the school she now attends. But, much like the precious school she had went to for her studies, Carter was subjected to bullying once more during classes, and it didn't just stop at the names. Students from the Academy stole her school uniform, filled her water bottle with NOT water, shoved her around, and messed with all of her things because they could get away with it. Taeyeon caught on when Carter was waiting for her outside of the Academy with her actual kungfu uniform on, head hung low.

"Where's your school uniform, CC? Your bag? Your other clothes?" The older blonde had asked, crouching down to her level and taken by surprise when she saw tears gathering in the young girl's eyes.

"I... I don't know unnie, I don't know anything." Carter sobbed, distraught over the treatment she had been receiving once more. She truly felt that besides Taeyeon, no one treated people like her nicely and she would never belong here in South Korea.

Taeyeon's face hardened, nodding briefly. "Go wait for me in the car, sweetie. And don't worry about any of your stuff okay? We'll go shopping after this and get you new ones, okay? I can get you a new uniform too, just breathe and get in the car. I'll be there soon."

Needless to say, Taeyeon pulled Carter out of that place that very afternoon and had exchanged some very angry words with the heads of the Academy. When Daniel arrived that evening, Taeyeon informed him that Carter would not be going back to the Royal Pheonix Academy and that he should find another one if he wanted her to keep learning. And what popped up in their research was the Fearsome Alpaca Academy. It was a strange name for sure but Taeyeon promised to take Carter there the next afternoon to visit before signing her up for anything again.

The afternoon started rather strangely, being greeting by a large, loud group of kids and Carter was honestly taken aback as she scanned through the faces. She thought that she recognized a girl from her new school, but honestly wasn't sure what to make of this place... And then she saw him. No, not her love interest. But Vernon, Vernon Choi. Someone like her. Someone like her who was laughing, smiling, truly and genuinely, and no one was making fun of him. He looked like he belonged.

"This is it." Carter tugged on Taeyeon's sleeve. The older looked over at her. "You sure?"

Carter's eyes never left the smile on Vernon's face. "I'm absolutely sure."

The improvement in Carter's mood and personalirt from transferring to the Alpacas and her new school is incredible... but she still has a lot of nervous ticks and insecurities that are left over from the bullying.

LIFESTYLE / Some townhouse in the upper part of the city that's a little bit closer to the naval academy her father works at. It's a rather nice set up and Carter's not complaining because she gets her own bedroom and bathroom/closet space. It's two bedrooms+bathrooms on the second floor, and the first floor has a living room, dinging+kitchen area and a pretty back porch. ( layout here )And it turns out that Vernon's family only lives like three doors down, so it's not like she's far away from her friends at any point in time. She goes to an all girl's high school with a uniform, and is on a speciality track for Fine Arts, specifically Music and Theater.

FAMILY /

Captain Dad! / Daniel Benedict / 47 / He's a naval captain, so there are stretches of time where he's on duty, and then times where he is not. When he is on duty, Carter misses him A LOT and makes sure to call the base to speak with him if/when she can. When's he's not, Daniel is Super Dad and does all the dad things so he can still have a presence in his daughter's life. It wasn't easy for a long time for both of them, and he's so grateful that Carter hasn't shut him out fully. Carter really does adore her dad, and whenever he's home or he promised to come to one of her events (which he only truly promises when he KNOWS he will be able to make it so he doesn't disappoint her) she's even more smiley and just loves everything and everyone. It's hard to bring her down when her dad's home.

Big sister/Nanny / Kim Taeyeon / 26 / Beautiful in face and heart, Kim Taeyeon was the Benedict's saving grace when they first came to Seoul. Daniel was desperate to find a nanny or babysitter of sorts, and with Taeyeon's high school graduation right around the corner, she took it upon herself to help the struggling family. Taeyeon is like the big sister Carter never had, and she loved the older girl dearly. It goes the other way around, too. Taeyeon is VERY protective over her and makes a point to pick her up from the Academy from time to time when she's able to. (College, man. It up all your free time.)

FRIENDS /

You're... like me. / Choi Vernon / 15 / Vernon is like her brother (he comes over all the time because he's Taeyeon's favorite apparently) and they spend a lot of time together. Which means of course they're going to try and embarrass each other all the time. Carter admires Vernon a lot, even if he doesn't realize it. He's just.. he's positive, and it's a habit that Carter really tries to take on so she can help him and everyone else in return. Vernon sees Carter as a big sister, and appreciates it when she understands his shy tendencies even when no one else would. But everytime he tries to rap she cuts him off and threatens to tell his little sister that he said "oh my god" that oNE time when he was like ten but Sophia can't know it's a bad word -- so she always has the upper hand on the guy. 

The Holy Duo / Sistine Park Kang Park??? / 17 / With names like Sistine and Benedict, it was hard for the joke to not come around and hit them in the face. So they rolled with it. Carter thinks that Sistine is beautiful inside and out,and faintly reminds her of Taeyeon, so she sort of latched on when she was enrolled and Sistine came over to greet her for the first time. Sistine brings out the ert in Carter, which is hilarious because you can see Carter try and control herself and Sistine's just laughing maniacally and zooming in on pictures of Jungkook's eyebrows or thighs because she likes Carter's internal cat dying noises she makes when she's distressed.

Coffee for Ties. / Yoon Jeonghan / 18 / These two are always huddled together because Jeonghan is constantly asking for hairties and Carter constantly wants coffee. It's like a drug deal happening on the bleachers, because they act like it's a huge secret but it's really obvious. Jeonghan is like her big brother and cheers her on ALL THE TIME. He's on the sidelines on matches like "Go Carter go!" and ruffles her hair a lot and Carter calls him pretty a lot. And he's very much appreciative of that. And her as a person. But really, like 75% he just likes being called pretty, 15% the bleacher exchange, and the rest is actually they like each other and get along well. 

My cinnamon bun! / Xu Minghao / 16 / PRECIOUS BABY CINNAMON BUN THAT MUST BE PROTECTED FROM THIS WORLD. Minghao is honestly so sweet and kind and nice and it's just really incredible to Carter that there are people like Minghao in the world. He's so shy and can get really hardvon himself when it comes to not being able to speak Korean well and Carter sees this and is just like "Nooooo friend let me protect you from this world and let me love you." She's super supportive of this boy and tries to help him with Korean as much as she can, and he in turn helps her out with her kungfu. 

Platonic Soulmates. / Kim Taehyung / 17 / BEST FRIEND BEST FRIEND A+ RELATIONSHIP OVER HERE. Carter LOVES this boy more than probably Vernon and the younger boy HATES it. Taehyung was her first friend at the Academy and they partner up to save themselves from embarrassment and try their best in their little corner of slow and reluctant to fight. Taehyung is so kind and has this beautiful smile and CARTER JUST LOVES HIM SO MUCH. They talk so much on Line and text and call each other that some people think they're dating and it's just that super platonic soulmates relationship that they've got going on. Taehyung loves her just as much, so it's not just a one way street here. He's always doting on her and complimenting her, because he knows about her fears and her insecurity and he's just like "you can't be alone in this I am here for you I love you"  and they just love each other a lot okay. 

Baby Koala / Lee Chan / 15 / If you see a small child with greenish hair latched onto Carter, don't worry, it's not a human-alien parasite, it's just Chan. Chan is the youngest in the academy, which means he is a child which equals Carter is mom. Carter thinks that Chan is actually really mature for his age and therefore doesn't try and mircomanage him or his stuff (...much) and Chan's jsut glad there's someone who's like "oh you want to cuddle right now? yeah bro sure" and he likes having a big sister sort of figure in his life that's not forcing him to go shopping or anything. Carter's also a fan of American music and buys him Michael Jackson CDs and sometimes vinyls and he gets really happy.

Duet Partners for Life / Boo Seungkwan / 15 / They say that people of like minds find each other, and it was definitely the case for these two. He's really close to Vernon and so she saw him a lot, and once they both discovered they were in Choir at their schools their relationship just flourished from there. Now he comes over a lot to just sit there and play piano with Carter and sing random braodway musicals or pop songs that they can plunk out the notes to or just jam to. It's Carter fault he's obsessed with the musical Hamiliton and will yell random lyrics from the Cabinet Battles across the way and chances are you'll hear Carter scream the next part back.

please don't kICK ME / Jung Nari / 15 / There is no one that genuinely terrifies her more than her (when he's angry ofc) father than this small firecracker right here. Oh my gooood, she's terrifiying. Since they're in the same class, Carter sees her a lot but that doesn't lessen the actual fear she has when she sees Nari getting ready for battle. It's not that she's not good at what she does, she totally is 100% rad and honestly Carter does admire her for her skills but at the same time it's scary. It's a contradiction but that's Nari and Carter might be a little more than okay with the fact that she's that way. ((an actual lowkey girl crush over here ngl you used wendy i'm obligated))

LEARNING STYLE / Carter hasn't been in the Academy for long, but she's an eager learner. She's just... very hestiant of actually hitting someone. She's a bit of a pacifist, and frequently stops and turns to the teacher and asks, "If I tell you I'm a pacifist, do I still have to hit him?" when it comes to sparring. The best way to teach her is to give her a dummy of sorts for her to practice hitting instead of giving her Tae to practice with (well, she still gets him, they use the dummy together but you get it, yah?)
