Goodbye “sana_11,” Hello "Mstyper"

(The actual title of this blog post should be, “Goodbye “sana_11,” Hello “mstyper” “. If you do not see that as the title, it’s probably due to something happening on AFF because lately, some of my chapter/blog post titles would change.

Thank you.)

Hello!

Yes’m! I’ve changed my username from sana_11 to mstyper for the many reasons I will be explaining below:

  1. I see my own username as having the same values as my personal name, thus, I rarely change my username on any site, and I usually keep the same username on several social media platforms. This new username, mstyper, is for the record, my third username ever made.
  2. Because I see my username holding the same importance as a personal name, there is one difference: I add one more meaning when I choose a username; I must have a username that best fits me as a whole. The new username is the best written description of me. Not only is it a description of me, but it implies my interest and explains my hobby. Why is this important? Well, we’re never going to see one another in real life, so I want a username that best describes me so it can give you a piece of information about the kind of person I am, in a certain way, of course, lol.
  3. So if I hold usernames to the same values as a personal name, why did I change my username? My previous username, sana_11, was too one-sided. I am, in no way, really including you guys into my writing life, and after four years of being on AFF and befriending many of you whom have supported me from the beginning, or even just now, I want to ensure that my username, at least, will kind of give you guys a more friendly feel to it when you guys talk to me on here. I know, visually, sana_11 is much more personal than mstyper, but back then, it was a username to define me and not be a way of relating you to me or me to you.
  4. Why mstyper then? How is it a username that relates us together? Well, if you break mstyper into two pieces, you get “ms” and “typer”. Do you see what I see? Even if you do, it’s more than just a person, or in this case, a “miss”, who “types” her stories. Prior to typing my stories and stashing them online on AFF, I used to write my stories via pen/pencil on paper. I still do, occasionally, but definitely not as much as typing them.

    But why not “mswriter”?

Well, a writer is a person who writes with the use of an instrument of some sort (pen, pencil, brush, etc). I don’t write my stories because I type them now. Also, I somewhat share this profile with my best friend Yuna, who is the author of many of the Yuna Inspired Story series, or the YIS series (pronounced “yes”). Although she may be the author, she partakes in no writing of it. And here is where “writer,” “typer,” “typist,” or “author” comes into play. A writer is what I explained previously and is also a person who can write for others. A typer, well, is a person who types; however, a typist is usually a professional person who types for a profession. An author is the original creator of an art, and in regards to fan fiction and writing in other areas, an author may or may not have any part in writing anything. In short, when it comes to the YIS series, I am solely a writer/typer whereas Yuna is considered the author. On stories that are not marked with “Yuna Inspired,” I am then an author, writer, and a typer. Thus, mstyper was purposely chosen to best define my relationship with the stories.
  5. Mstyper not only defines me, but I have chosen it to describe your relationship with me. I’ve noticed that many authors/writers on here usually have some sort of nicknames for their subbies. Although I like the word “subbies” to describe you guys, that isn’t a personal name, in a way-ish, lol, and I really, really hate referring you guys as “you guys” because I feel rude when I use that phrase. I know, some of you might say, “well, “you” is also a collective plural, so you don’t have to add “guys,” but being born from an Asian background, “you” is too informal, and I want to respect you guys (sorry) as much as you all have respected me. So with this new username, I also came up with a personal nickname to replace “subbies” or my usual “you guys,” and it is “typies” and yes, this nickname refers to anyone who is a subscriber, reader, or ghost reader of any of my stories, and not just the subscribers.
    1. I had also debated on several nicknames:

i. Typos: I decided not to after I realized that it is a word that points to grammatical errors, and I don’t want you guys to think that I’m relating you to something negative. Before I made the realization, however, I had thought of this nickname to represent that you are my guardians in writing and are the help that leads me to becoming a better writer each time I post a new chapter because a writer/author learns from their own writing errors (again, I’m not saying you are a mistake/error to me) and I will always learn and receive plenty of love from you.

ii. Typas: I feel that this nickname has some spunk to it, haha. But I shot it down because it looks weird (when written); it even sounds weird…lol

iii. Typers: Yes, the normal of the normal. I didn’t shoot it down because it’s a part of my name, but because it’s too cliché. Like how “subbies” is very natural and commonly used, I feel that “typers” doesn’t do justice to represent the wonderful significance you are to me. And most important of all, you guys are more than just a “typer”. You are a friend whom I share the same common interests with, a friend that I can learn from, and a friend I am proud to “live” in the same community with.

  1. This reason is a reason that doesn’t negatively affect my profile, but I would like to take precautions with. This year, I was met with the misfortune of having one of my stories written similarly, and although this is in no way going to really change anything (because I’m sure s/he can still find my page/stories), if my username changes, I’m hoping that maybe s/he may not be able to recognize my page, and thus, hopefully, will not make the correlation that I wrote the story she had similarly written. It’s nothing big, but it’s my wishful thinking. Because of this incident, I also see changing my username as a way to bid goodbye to the bad incident and look forward to the better future.
  1. This reason is also another reason that doesn’t negatively affect my profile or has a big meaning, but I would also like to take precautions with (this is the reason I came up with last. The other six were already conceived before this came along). If you are a kpop fan, you might know who I am talking about. If not, well, I’ll still explain. JYP Entertainment recently (I think?) debuted a girl group called TWICE and in this group, one of the girls is called Sana. Yes, my username came before she debuted by four years, however, because there are many more Korean readers than Japanese readers, I don’t want my username to be seen as what some people would call “attention grabber”. I have occasionally seen some inactive authors or even some authors who hold dual accounts (or even more), with one account as their personal account and the other as their “interest account”, meaning, their interest account will have stories featuring only the idols/biases they’re passionate about with the bias’ name as the username to attract other fans to subscribe to their stories. Anyway, to come back to how this relates to my username, I don’t want any of my new typies (haha) to click on my page just because, if I still kept my old username, I have the name Sana. I don’t want to unintentionally mislead a new typie to think that I am a fanatic Twice’s Sana fan and will only write stories about her.

Like always, I’m very open about my personal life (as long as it doesn’t include others), so here are all of the reasons why I’ve changed my username. Yes, nothing big and probably unnecessary for typies to see, but again, I feel very much obliged to include you into my writing—err—typing life. XD Feel free to write/not write how you feel regarding these changes, reasons, or even the nickname down below in the comment section.

Although I have changed my username, please feel free to still call/refer me as Sana_11 or Sana. I will not mind and/or correct you. Feel free to call me in whichever username you like because really, the new username change is just a mere description of me to allow you to have a better understanding of me, act as a personal bridge for the both of us, say hello to a brighter future, and to avoid any misleads from other typies/readers.

I hope you are okay with this change and with these reasons.

P.S. Don’t worry. If you don’t like being referred to as “typies,” I’ll try to not use it often because I try to avoid being too direct too. I’ll only be using “typies” whenever I need it to sound less rude and direct. Thank you for understanding.
