Eri's tips!

Eri’s Tips!! ^^

So here~~

I’m writing this because I know there are lots of people out there who would like to write and has lots of ideas in their minds but they wouldn’t put them in words because they don’t dare to…

So I will give you a few tips about how to write easily; it will be out of my experience so I hope you can find some help from here; I will also put some examples from my own fics or some I’ve been reading! ^^

·         Think about your plot; that’s probably the most important in your story; imagine the characters and personalities; the scenarios and the relations between those characters. Write them down if you think you might forget about it.

·         Make a story line; it doesn’t have to be that detailed; you just have to make something simple. For example; in my fic ‘Holding On’ my story line was like this:

§  Hyukjae’s work

§  Meeting

§  Bonding

§  Realization

§  Ending

Simple huh? But if you want to make it more detailed then it might help you better. The point of a storyline is just not losing the main idea of your story.

I guess I should give you an advice: please… please… Even when you like your story and you’re in love with it; follow your own story line; do not change it or try to make it longer just because you liked it. I’ve read lots of stories where the author doesn’t want to finish the story and keeps going changing the plot several times; please don’t do that, is annoying and you will never be able to catch on the real message of the story.

·         Chose how will you narrate the story; there are infinite ways to do so. I recommend you to chose one and keep it until the end of the story; sometimes it’s annoying when the author changes the style. (In my opinion; I think is better to maintain just a type of narrator.

There are several ways to do it and I’ve been reading quite a lot of good stories; the first one is the narration in first person. I usually don’t use it because this way you will have to switch POVs so the readers understand the whole situation; but this is the best way so the reader will get into the story the most since it means the reader is feeling and seeing things just like the main character.

There are multiple examples of this kind of narration. Maggie Unnie’s (mkcv4) work is a good one:

A few minutes later and Kyuhyun was done talking.
“How long have you been there?” Kyuhyun asked in an irritated voice.
“When? Just then….” I said.
“Don’t just barge in when I’m the phone.”
“Barge in? This is not your private room.” I shouted at him.

There is also second person narrator; but I haven’t been able to read too many fics like that and are usually monologues. This means the narrator is talking to ‘you’. I have to be honest and tell you that I never would dare to use this kind of way to narrate because I’m not a sensitive person and I wouldn’t be able to project the right feelings.

A good example is my Rikka Unnie’s (keiclove) work ‘Love Hurts’:

“Kyuhyun-ah, I like you.”
I turn around slightly just to meet your eyes, sparkling in anticipation.
Your eyes say everything I don’t want to know, but I still know anyway.
Say hyung, if I ever say ‘I like you, too’, you will be happy, won’t you?
Tsk, I’m such a fool! Of course you’ll be happy.
Cause your eyes, they tell me you will.

Third person narrator; the one I like the most. There are several subtypes of this one; there is the omniscient one; which is the one I always use; this kind of narrator will know everything in the story; the narrator will know what are the characters thinking or doing even when they’re not with the main characters. This is the one I used in my fic ‘Living in a Sad Quote’ where the one telling the story knew everything that was happening and all the things the characters were thinking.

There is also another subtype of the third person narrator that is the focalized one; is when the narrator knows everything around the main character and can read his/her mind and such. The thing here is; that the narrator can’t know what the other characters are thinking. This is in third person too.

And now! Hybrids! I love combining the types of narrator; there’s this one I like the most that is first person/ third person/ second person. Hahaha The thing here is you do can combine all those types and it’s actually funny! Just make sure to write in the same way the entire story. The one I mentioned is actually pretty simple; because is someone who’s telling you a story but knows everything about the characters. I’ll show you a fragment of a new fic I’ve been writing weeks ago that it’s still unnamed but I’m doing by best! Here is a the example:

No; if you’re thinking Hyukjae hit the girl; it wasn’t like that; Hyukjae was a man and he wouldn’t do it.

But the girl was sure scared when Hyukjae threw at her a cockroach that started walking on her body; I remember she started to yell and scream she was going to die and such things; making herself embarrassed in front of the entire faculty.

Donghae laughed at her; it was a sweet revenge and Hyukjae came back to his poker face after that.

Tips about third person narration: you have to be objective; if you’re an omniscient narrator then you can’t call your characters by their nicknames; for example; you can’t call Kyuhyun “Kyu” or something like that because that’s too personal and it would sure confuse the reader about who the narrator is. It’s okay if it’s first person or second person because it’s a character then.

A good example would be my ‘Cakes and Lotus Flowers’ fic; which as you know; was a royal story. The secret behind this story is the way the narrator refers to the characters; looking as if the one telling the story is someone, whoever he is that isn’t close to the characters.

Queen Lee and Queen Cho sighed when Prince Kyuhyun couldn’t stop walking in circles. They both put their cups of tea in the table.

“I’m sorry you couldn’t find him here Kyu.” Queen Lee said smiling warmly.

“Where the hell is he?!” Prince Kyuhyun yelled in annoyance. “I just came a day after him!”

“Queen Lee already told you Kyu…” Queen Cho said sighing. “He had to do his Prince musts.”

“I’m a Prince too and I don’t go to battle an enemy King!” Prince Kyuhyun yelled frustrated.

“That’s because you’re an irresponsible Prince unlike our Hyuk…” Queen Cho hissed loud enough as for his son to hear.

Here the narrator never refers to them as just ‘Kyuhyun’ or ‘Eunhyuk’ but as ‘Prince Kyuhyun’ and ‘Prince Eunhyuk’ and such. That gives a special touch to your story.

·         Endings. This is one of the most difficult things to write; because you have to gather all the feelings that your readers passed by and placed them all in just your ending. It’s not easy; but when you do and it’s logical then it’s perfect. Don’t rush it; you can prepare your ending and spent three or four chapters preparing for it; but don’t do things in your story so sudden; it’s not like they suddenly became the happiest persons in the world! Haha there must be a background. You have to know that there are never perfect endings so don’t worry!

·         Personifications; I really recommend you in working just in a few stories at the same time; because for writing you must know your character at the perfection; you must think like they do; specially when is in first POV; you have to be clear in how your character will react and if it changes then you must know why it did.

·         Something else that would be helpful is about the chapters; you must write something interesting in each one of them; I would recommend you to write it at the end of the chapter so your readers will be even more curious about what happens next. Hahaha! If you don’t have anything interesting then it will become boring.

·         Write down things you think you might forget; I for example; have to write the subjects my characters are taking or how much time has been since they met and how everything is going so I can have a time line clear.

·         .The thing about is really simple; describe, describe, describe. That’s all; be really specific with the emotions and sensations and bum! You’ll get it right. While writing is important to write down even the moans; because you have to be clear and make the reader imagine it clearly. We all know the main objective of ! And if it’s KyuHyuk with topping Kyu you can always ask my Rikka Unnie (missymoody) to check it up if she likes it!! ^^

·         Writer’s block.Everybody is worried for the writer’s block! And I know; is terrifying but it’s not that bad; what I do for example is just write nonsense; scenes in my story that doesn’t really have importance; and then… little by little you will know what to write next and it will be easier. A good playlist helps a lot too!

·         Beta-ing; that’s hard actually; when you do it by yourself is tiring because you have already wrote it all and when to read it again is kind of annoying. So just look for someone to do it! I would be glad to do it for you if you dare to write something for the first time! (: It’s not hard but you should really be able to do it if you wish! If English is not your first language then you have to be even more careful at writing!

·         DON’T BE AFRAID TO WRITE!Seriously; it’s really interesting and you will notice; it’s okay if you’re inexperienced; little by little it will improve. So don’t wait for so long and if you have something in your mind then write it down as soon as you can! Don’t be afraid! (I’ll always be there to support you!!) I remember I failed lots of times in writing; when I first started (not in LJ) I didn’t have readers at all; so I noticed it was because my writing skills weren’t as good as I wish. So just dare to do it!

I hope it helps you all and let’s all write a lot!! ^^

(If it’s KyuHyuk I would be really happy to read! xD)
