「✾ Iris — Erin Kang。

IRIS — THEIR LEGEND

 Kiss My Lips
“All you have to do is just look at me like you are right now.”

name :: Erin Kang
other name(s) :: -
nickname(s) ::

The Erinator – She loves science fiction, and the Terminator franchise is one of her favorites - which is well known, thanks to her agressive pre-debut tweeting about it. V-BRANT fans in 2035 wasted no time in drawing pictures of the Erinator, who is an adorable shapeshifting robot who rights wrongs and triumphs over evil.
✕ Beckstradamus – Her tweeted-out predictions about sci-fi shows and movies are crazy accurate...mostly, because while she was growing up, she watched those movies and hence knows what happened in them.

date of birth :: 17 July 2017
birthplace :: Carson City, Nevada, USA
hometown :: Carson City, Nevada, USA
ethnicity :: 1/4 Caucasian, 3/4 Korean (her mother is half-Korean half-white and her father is full Korean.)
nationality :: Korean-American

languages ::

✕ English native – Living in the USA for 12 years will do that to you.
✕ Korean fluent – Her mother taught her the language at home while she was living in the States, and when the Kang family moved to Korea, she proceeded to learn even more.

 Smash
“I'm gonna wake myself up from being forgotten – my hidden freedom.”

face claim :: 4minute's Sohyun
back-up face claim :: A Pink's Eunji

appearance :: Erin is 159 cm tall on the dot and weighs 47 kg. Her lobes are pierced twice each. She got double eyelid surgery done about a month before V-BRANT was set to debut. Her overall figure is completely average; she's fit enough to be able to sing well and dance...pretty okay at the same time, but she has no visible muscle tone to speak of. She's a healthy weight, though - barely - which is good enough for her. (Also, her cheeks are chubby and magnificent.)

style :: Erin Kang loves sweaters, and wears them for approximately 75% of every year. Most of hers are hand-me-downs from her older brother, meaning that they're mostly brown and grey and black, and that they range between being slightly oversized to ridiculously oversized on her, and she loves all of them. The giantly oversized ones, she'll wear with a brightly colored camisole (since those are less like sweaters and more like blankets); with all sweaters, regardless of size, she'll either wear skin-tight skinny jeans or leggings and a pair of brightly colored sneakers.  Seeing as it's completely impractical to wear sweaters/blankets in the middle of the summer, during the other 25% of the year, Erin just wears what she usually would from the waist down - just replacing the sweaters with brightly colored t-shirts and camisoles. (Erin's sort of partial to bright colors.) Her personal style translates pretty well to practice, lucky for her. Erin relies on the company to supply formalwear for her, since she's all about that sweater life. The closest Erin gets to accessories is a necklace on a shoestring with a ring on it; her best friend in the world, Luke Lee, wears one of her shoelaces with a matching ring.

 Hello
“Even if no one in the world understands me.”

traits :: (+) charming, positive, earnest; (+/-) talkative, self-centered; (-) tactless, childish, ignorant
breakdown ::
Erin on stage and on-camera will charm the pants off of you, honestly. She's schmoozy when she needs to be schmoozy ("I'm a really big fan of yours - especially *insert album track that nobody listens to except the fanbase here*!"), clever when she needs to be clever ("Well, a girl group singing about the older guy they like is pretty rare, no?"), fanservicey when she needs to be fanservicey ("Everyone! I'm happy to see you here today! I wub chu all~") and overall just fun to watch and listen to. She's not the best dancer, nor is she the prettiest member, but she makes sure that every facial expression she makes is perfectly in time with what line she's singing. She's not just about showing off her vocal skills-with-a-z; Erin is all about performing, and making the performances she's in enjoyable for the audience. This works for her very, very well.

When she's not on-stage or on-camera, Erin is more or less the happy one of Iris/V-BRANT; is she ever without a grin on her face? Yes, but that's only when she's performing serious songs. It's really hard to get Erin down, as a matter of fact - no matter how harsh her trainers are, no matter how tough the competion to debut was, despite the fact that she's now in 2013, when her best friend in the whole wide world hasn't even been born yet - things might get hard, but Erin just keeps being happy. Her cheeriness isn't the kind that gets people around her to smile - most of the girls weren't too glad about being stuck in 2013, for example, and then there was Erin, who was grinning and thinking how much this was like an episode of Doctor Who - but she doesn't really mind. Erin doesn't stay happy for other people; she stays happy for herself, who is really the only person she needs to please, in her opinion.

Erin is also a surprisingly hard worker; whatever it is, be it singing, dancing, modelling, cooking, or buying sweaters, she'll put 900% of her effort into it. She tries hard at everything, and if she doesn't succeed, she'll try and change what she did until whatever she's trying to do works out in her favor. Erin never resorts to changing the odds, though; she's against cheating in any way, and if she can't do something honestly, she's not going to do it at all. If that means taking the long way around, or going to bed a little later at night, that's fine; as long as Erin gets her work done well and honestly, she's 100% okay.

The most major aspect of Erin's personality, though, is that she talks a lot. Seriously, it'd take all the duct tape in the universe to shut her up once she gets going; she asks one question, and before you have the chance to answer, she's already asked about a million follow up questions. Her conversational skills leave only one thing to be desired, and that's a chance for the other person to talk. Her chattiness is a curse and a blessing; on the one hand, it's so, so irritating to have a little voice going on and on about who knows what in your ear all the time, which is what the rest of the girls are now learning/have learned to put up with. On the other hand, it's a good distraction, and it's never not fun to see where Erin's train of thought goes.

"Self-centered" isn't the exact right word to describe Erin; while she does love herself and care for her own needs and the like, it's her lack of concern about other people that I'm attempting to describe. The competition is the competition, but unless she's got to up for them for whatever reason, she's not even going to bother learning their names.  The other members have problems of their own, sure, but if they don't affect Erin directly, she's not going to fret too much about what they have going on. Live and let live, yo. The thing is, it's not just the other members that that applies to; it's the entire freakin' world that Erin is ignorant of. 2013 is a pretty violent, dangerous place compared to 2035, and Erin is aware of just about .1% of all of it.

Maybe it's because of her not-care-iness that Erin has no idea what to do in most social situations. Sure, on camera (if it comes to that) it can be written off as her being a funny foreigner, but god - Erin has moments when she's downright insensitive. Her eternal obliviousness isn't cute after a while; it's just annoying. One of the members could be crying about their hardcore relationship drama, or something, but then there's Erin, who would probably ask out of the blue what sort of ice cream flavor sounds the worst but tastes the best. (Then she'd be totally confused by the ensuing death glares.) It's best not to go with subtle hints when you want something out of Erin; if you don't say what's bugging you about her out loud, she will not understand it whatsoever, and continue to do whatever annoying thing she's doing.

She's also not...the most mature person on earth, let's say. Her interest in sci-fi and completely founded belief in aliens is one thing; her overly quickness to trust, lack of filter and impatience are completely seperate things entirely. She whines (actually whines! drawing out her vowels and everything) when she wants something and won't let up until she gets it, and unless she's on camera or watching a TV show she likes, Erin has the attention span of a goldfish on its last legs. (Fins?) Erin isn't the type of person who gets pissed off easily - she's the happy one, after all - but it's clear when she is, because she'll silently treat whoever she's mad at and pout her way through social interactions with them. She's hardly ever serious, which hurts her more than it helps her. It's just not good.

(tl;dr: Erin is a cheery, talkative and hardworking girl who's also a massively ignorant ditz.)

background :: Erin is the second child of Soohyun and Katie Kang, the owners of an Asian-fusion diner in Carson City, Nevada. Right off the bat, Katie Erin into the entertainment industry, a field that she'd tried (and failed) to get into herself as a child and teenager; small modelling gigs with voice lessons on the side were the start, but the only thing that Erin really ended up passionate about was the singing. The modelling stopped when Erin was seven, but the singing most certainly did not; in fact, most of Erin's pre-debut videos consist of tiny her at her local performing arts center, singing jazz standards and songs from musicals. Erin as a child was pretty much the same as Erin now - a cheerful, chatty and sort of ditzy girl who's exactly what she sounds like on the tin. She watched a lot of sci-fi with her dad and older brother.

Erin, Katie and her brother Joshua moved to Seoul when Erin was 12, after Katie's mother died. They didn't intend to stay in Korea for very long - there's still a diner to be run back home, after all - but the year was 2029, and Victory Media was having a special audition to celebrate the fact that they'd been doing auditions for 10 years.  Katie was still mourning her mother at the time, but gave her tried-and-true stage mom blessing; Erin auditioned and got through, thanks to her honed on-camera skills and amazing voice. The rest, as they say, will be continued in the "trainee history" section.

trivia ::

✕ loves science fiction – She grew up on the stuff. Doctor Who, Star Trek, The Matrix, The Terminator franchise, and Pacific Rim are her absolute favorites.
✕ likes vanilla scented perfume
✕ likes musicals
✕ likes jazz – Her ideal type is Frank Sinatra, for crying out loud, and her audition song for Victory Media was Polka Dots and Moonbeams
✕ likes salmon meuniere
✕ likes kimchi chilli cheese fries The signature dish of her parent's diner - a perfect mix of crisp, soft, spicy and creamy. Erin's got the recipe memorized, and kept meaning to make them for her groupmates...
dislikes romantic comedies
dislikes being ignored – Pros of having a stage mom: at least someone always has her attention on you all the time, right?
dislikes how slow everything is in 2013 – Tech is faster in the future.

“Each minute, each second is precious when I'm looking at you.”

family ::

✕ big brother Joshua Kang : 20 : librarian : introverted; clever; easily distracted : 4/5
Joshua "Joshy" Kang is Erin's second biggest support in life. Their only real similarity is their shared ditziness, but maybe it's because of that that they get along so well. Erin can go to Joshua any time she needs a shoulder to cry on who isn't named Luke Lee - for example, when she has a problem related to Luke Lee.
✕ stage mom Katie Kang : 50 : restaurant owner : daring; strict; passionate : 3/5
Katie wanted to be famous as a girl; when that ended up not happening, her next best idea was to put her dreams on her daughter. Things ended up working out pretty damn well for Erin, of course, but still - most children don't spend their childhoods being put into every opporitunity to get famous ever, which is probably why Erin's not as close to her mother as she could be.
✕ dad Kang Soohyun : 52 : restaurant owner : quiet; passive; passionate : 2/5
Erin is close to her dad, sure, but honestly, if he was replaced with a lamp post for the vast majority of her life, she wouldn't really notice. He's a behind-the-scenes kind of guy, being the chef of the diner, and took that approach to parenting as well.

friends ::

✕ best friends 'til time ends Luke Lee : 19 : college student, sandwitch maker : hardworking; arrogant; free-spirited : 6/5
Luke Lee and Erin Kang are everything to each other (in a strictly platonic sense, of course - they were each other's first kisses, but they were also nine at the time). They first met when Luke's family was eating at the diner, when they were both two years old; they simply never seperated after that first meeting. They have enough inside jokes to write a book and about 80% of their interactions are those; then there's the 10% that are the actual meaningful discussions that they have with each other (over the phone, usually, which is why Erin has the biggest cell phone bill out of all the members), and then there's the 10% that makes just about everyone on earth - Luke's friends, Erin's friends, the other members, probably the president - believe that these two are dating, which would never happen in a million years.

others ::

✕ brother's boyfriend Carson Summers  : 22 : college student, soon to be teacher : extroverted; charismatic; easily bored : 2/5
During a rare break from training, Erin got the chance to go home to Nevada; the only real first impression Erin had of her brother's boyfriend of two years was the fact that he had the same name as the city she lived in. They're like the family that you only see at Thanksgiving - you like them and all, but the fact that you don't see them for most of the year makes things way way better. Anyone who loves her older brother, though, can't be all bad, can they?

 Green Light
“The more I think about it, the farther I get from the answer. I don't know.”

stage name :: Erin
position :: Main vocalist, face of the group
talent twin :: Lee Hi

trainee years ::

✕ victory media 6 years

trainee history :: Erin's experience singing definitely paid off as a trainee; month after month, she impressed her vocal trainers, and she simply never stopped improving her voice after that. Her experience as a model certainly helped her out as well, with her recieving offers to model almost immediately. She ain't the face of the group for nothing, amigo. Why the six years before debut, then, you ask? Simple: Erin is easily the worst dancer out of V-BRANT/Iris. She can dance about as well as a fish can climb a tree, and many, many shots to debut earlier ended up not panning out because of her inability to groove. There were rumors among Victory Media stalkers that she'd debut as a solo artist or in XY, but nope. Honestly, until she was put in the trainee group that would become V-BRANT, Erin didn't have many trainee friends; her positivity clashed with the trainees whose hopes of debut were continuously dashed, and her talkativeness proved most annoying. She called Luke every Saturday at about 4:00 AM to make sure he hadn't damaged himself or anything.

pre-debut experiences ::

✕ modeling (2029-2035) modeled for Etude House cosmetics and various online shops
✕ concert vtr (2031)  made an appearance in Apollo's concert vtr
✕ music video (2032)  made an appearance in the music video for "Warbird" by Eos
✕ news clip (2033)  made an appearance in an ABC special about the Korean pop industry, along with some other English-speaking trainees
✕ film (2033)  made an appearance in the movie "Summer Diary" opposite Ahra of Eos, as her little sister (who gets cancer and dies at the end)
✕ documentary (2034)  made an appearance in an the documentary about Victory Media, where she talked about the vocal trainers

 Clockwork
“Did I act too hard? I thought about it, actually caculated it.”

chosen name :: Rebecca Lee (did she take the "Lee" from Luke? for sure.)
stage name :: Becky
faked story :: Rebecca "Becky" Lee was born to a Korean-American father and a fully Korean mother in Las Vegas, Nevada, in 1995. She initially became interested in singing after watching her babysitter perform some Frank Sinatra at the night club her parents run; initially, the only experience she had singing was in her church's choir and on a Disney karaoke mic, but her natural talent was too big to ignore. Her father enrolled her in jazz singing lessons almost immediately after realizing this, and those lessons continued until Becky was 17. A trip to Korea with her parents to see some relatives turned into a meeting with Lee Yongsoo, a distant relation with an idea for an entertainment company; she signed up right away and began chasing her dream of being a singer.

friends ::

✕ classmate Han Soyi : 18 (in 2013) : student, jyp entertainment trainee : shy; easily embarrassed; obsessive : 3/5
Soyi was the first non-Iris friend that Erin made; opposites attract, after all. She's an awkward little turtle who occasionally sells pictures of her classmates to make money. and Erin, rather than thinking that's ridiculously weird, thinks it's funny. (Oh, Erin.) Soyi is also probably the world's biggest GOT7 fangirl, having trained alongside them before they debuted; it's Erin's goal to somehow set Soyi up with JR, who she's absolutely in love with.
✕ nice awkward english boy Peniel D. Shin : 20 (in 2013) : BtoB member : awkward; funny in a cringey way; kind : 4/5
Erin actually googled English speakers to reach out to shortly after Iris debuted; Peniel came up, so Erin tweeted at him, and the conversation began from there. Their first actual meeting didn't come until later, and Erin realized just how awkward Peniel was when he didn't have a chance to think over his every word before sending it out.  Erin thought it was adorable.

others :: -

 Shattered
“Predictions have become reality.”

how do they feel about their circumstance? :: This is literally a Doctor Who episode. In other words, Erin is absolutely thrilled. Like, okay so some things kind of in 2013 - Luke hasn't been born yet (she really, really really really misses Luke. The only time you'll catch her being actively sad about this whole time travel thing is when she's thinking of him or fiddling with her necklace) or her or her brother and the effects in movies are so bad and the Wi-fi isn't universally free and it's really slow - but any second now, they're going to find out that they had to go back to the past to change the future for the better, or something, and they have to be really careful or they'll cause a paradox so make sure to not step on butterflies, everyone!

how do they feel about becoming iris? :: She's always been sort of confused by Iris as a whole; they're outside her preferred genre of music, and hence, the fact that Erin's resemblance to Becky is uncanny was never a fact that entered her mind. Now that she is Becky, though, and is fully aware of what Iris did to boost up Victory Media from the ground, the pressure is on, and the rest of the group is definitely feeling it. Erin, on the other hand, hasn't really...realized the weight of what's going on. She's just happy to debut even if it's with a different song, and doesn't understand why everyone else is feelin' the pressure.

how do they feel about the past? :: If the past had Luke Lee and faster Wi-Fi, it'd be perfect; seriously, this place isn't so bad. Erin tries her best not to spoil things from Doctor Who and Star Trek movies in the future the best she can, and puts up with the things she doesn't like with all the strength she can muster.

if they had the choice, would they go back or stay? :: Rather than going back or staying, if Erin had it her way, she'd just transfer everything she loves from 2013 to 2035 or everything she loves from 2035 to 2013. She's made friends in both worlds (times?) and doesn't want to lose any of them; if only they could all come together as one, right? However, they can't, and Erin is torn. If it comes to that choice, it might just depend on how she's feeling that day - if she'd rather stay with her best friend or her first love.

 Love & Hate
“If only I could hate you, but I just can't stop loving you.”

love interest :: Han Sanghyuk (Kim Namjoo)
date of birth :: 05 July 1995 (15 April 1995)
occupation :: Idol - VIXX (Idol - A Pink)

personality :: Han Sanghyuk is a natural entertainer; much like Erin/Rebecca, he's absolutely charming on camera, and he doesn't really need to change himself to be the charmer that he is. He's tall, dark and snarky, with a line at s that feels like daggers ready at a moment's notice. He works hard and is generally confident. He's also got a quirky side - he's not as childish as Erin is, but he is known to enjoy playing in parks - and also has interests that make Erin/Rebecca laugh, like Justin Bieber and Twilight. (If I was kidding I wouldn't have put that down.)

first meeting ::  How I'd like them to meet: these two would totally be in the same class at the Seoul School of Performing Arts. Her transfer was smack-dab in the middle of the year, which is weird, which Hyuk promptly points out to her; Erin, being Erin, had no clue that her timing was weird. And then she introduced herself, because she's Erin.

history :: They ended up becoming friends pretty fast after that weird, weird introduction; he showed her around the school and introduced her to some of their classmates, though the only one that could stand Erin/Rebecca's Erin-ness was Han Soyi - the three became something of a power trio after that, sharing lunch (when they weren't dieting, anyway) and laughing at random inside jokes as a group of three. In fact, this friend group helped Erin develop her cover story as Rebecca - she'd tell stories to the two of them about her time in the states, some rooted in reality, some rooted in...whatever Erin was feeling that day. Friends. Of course, with Hyuk and Erin being idols and Soyi being a trainee, they didn't always have time to hang  out; in fact, one of the first moments that Erin realized she felt different (how different, she could never figure out) about Hyuk was when he was promoting and she actively missed him. Erin then promptly shrugged it off as nothing.

interactions :: Erin doesn't know how Hyuk feels about her, but one thing is for certain: just about 80% of everything he says makes her laugh, which she appreciate extremely. Erin is also more or less using Sanghyuk as a replacement goldfish for Luke, which of course he has no idea of, because Luke won't be born until December 2017, but I digress. The only real difference between Sanghyuk and Rebecca/Erin's eventual relationship is the fact that Rebecca/Erin has feelings for him that aren't strictly platonic, as a matter of fact; she's fine with their inside jokes and sneaking out and talking to each other when they get the chance, but unlike when she's doing those things with Luke, she gets just a little bit more nervous. The fact that those feelings are probably not platonic, though, has not crossed her mind; if/when they do she'll probably just act how she usually would around him,

relationship :: Classmates with a good helping of one-sided crush-ness.

 Who Are You
“I don't want to admit but I have no choice but to admit.

comments :: S'been a long time, hasn't it? Anyway, here's Erin. She's....Erin. =D
I wanted to do a mythology gag, so I looked through Mari's old app, and...damn. To put it positively, I guess I've improved a lot? Anyways, the mythology gag is supposed to be that Erin runs the exact kind of diner that Mari loves. Woohoo.
I picked Lee Hi as a twin because I figured she'd be good at singing jazz...hence. c:
Also, I know that there's not tons about Hyuk's personality, but I promise I'll add more later.

suggestions :: I'm glad EXID is finally starting to get the recognition they deserve, because this means that EXID songs are a thing that happen on the regular, so those would be good! And Spica and The Ark also are perfect. Woop. But if I had to request one specific song, it'd be "Airplane" by f(x), because it's probably one of the best f(x) songs to exist ever. So there is that.
scene requests ::

✕ Sneaking out – Sanghyuk and Erin sneak out during break to buy some snacks; they then promptly get caught by a teacher, who scolds them for it. (based on something that Zelo and somebody from I think Teen Top did once. There were pictures of them getting scolded on tumblr, which I thought was weird and stalkerish, but I digress.)
✕ World's best fries – Erin makes somebody Kimchi Chilli Cheese Fries. Doesn't matter who, doesn't matter when or where. Just. Fries.
✕ World's best fries, part two – Erin somehow meets a younger version of one of her parents, and she suggests the idea of the fries to them, even giving them the recipe...because stable time loops are cool, yo.
Melancholy – Erin has a low day - even positive people get sad - and Sanghyuk's just like, "What's wrong?" Then Erin's just like, "You remind me of somebody I used to know." (General missing-of-her-best-friend would be nice, but this scene would be nice specifically.)

password :: Messengers - Iris was the goddess of rainbows and delivered messages for the gods. Lame idea, but hey.
