Upon first meeting, before talking to her, you may assume that she's quite shy and quiet due to her looks. Once Hyomin starts talking, you feel very energized right away. Her tone of voice is very enthusiastic and she's easy to befriend and talk to. She asks questions to learn about the other person first, and responds in ways that make you want to keep talking even if you usually don't like talking about yourself. Hyomin likes learning about people more this way, rather than having a barrier that makes you seem distant. Hyomin can be considered shy to those who she first meets and she feels intimidated by them, although she tries to be friendly to them as well.

" I don't want to " 
After working with her for a little bit, if Hyomin doesn't have something urgent to work towards, she will approach it slowly, trying to drag it out as long as she can. To those who only work with her during these times, they may think Hyomin is lazy and unmotivated to do work or practice, and it's true. However, if there is something she is very passionate about, she will get it done right away. The thing is, if she is already doing that task as well and as fast as she can, she hates when people nag her to do it faster, which actually causes her to slow down. People who work or practice with Hyomin just has to keep in mind that if she's already doing something she should be doing, they should encourage her rather than pushing her to do it more.

" Are we friends now? "
While Hyomin is very open towards people, she's never sure if they consider her as their friend as well. Being nice and friendly doesn't necessarily mean that they're friends, thats what Hyomin thinks. But when they do say 'yes' to Hyomin, she gives them a big bright smile and becomes a big baby towards them, or their sister, depends on that person actually. Usually if they're older than her and they act crazy, she kind of judges them, but laughs along and keeps it in mind to tease them later. If they act like a child, she still judges them, but takes it upon herself to take care of them, even if they are older, it just depends on how that person acts.
 

BACKGROUND

" 오빠! "
Hyomin and Minhyun have been as close as siblings could be since they were born. The two siblings did everything together and know absolutely everything about each other. They're not the type of siblings who fight or hate each other, but the complete opposite. They do tease each other, but it's only harmless teasing that maybe brings them even closer. As a kid, she was, and still is, pretty naive. She never really changed because she didn't interact with a lot of other people, so she she was always the childish yet friendly person. The siblings went to the same school and Minhyun being a year older than Hyomin, always helped her with any homework. Hyomin actually didn't make too many friends as a kid because she wasn't really interested in talking to other people besides her brother, really her childhood was surrounded and focused on just her and Minhyun. 

" Spread your wings " 
Eventually, Minhyun and Hyomin had to be apart for a year because he went to his first year of high school as Hyomin continued her last year of middle school, so she tried opening herself up to new people. She did get bullied for a little while because the popular girls were jealous of how close she was to her brother - " Um, he's my brother though? " - but she ignored them and made her own friends. They were jealous of Hyomin because Minhyun never paid much attention to any other girls except for Hyomin, even though when they wanted to talk to him, he brushed them off shortly. Hyomin avoided the bullies during school, so they didn't affect a big part of her life. Minhyun and Hyomin saw each other at home anyway, so they still spent lots of time together, and they adapted the same habits and interests. 

" Music is what feelings sound like "
During the school time she was away from her brother and hasn't made much friends yet, Hyomin took comfort in music. In the last year of middle school, she was always seen with headphones, taken off during classes of course, she had a variety of music and songs on her iPod and just let herself immerse into the melodies. When she had breaks, she wandered to an empty part of the school and didn't notice until maybe two months later that she always danced a bit, just by feeling the music. Once she discovered it, Hyomin went to show Minhyun at home after school and he was impressed and cheered her on to keep learning and improving. She didn't learn any lessons officially, but always searched up idol groups such as Wonder Girls and SS501 and tried to copy their dances, adding in her own style.

" Don't leave me "
Their interest in music blossomed, and they wanted to become idols. However, that darned age difference didn't allow Hyomin to audition just yet, but she didn't want to hold Minhyun back so she told him to go ahead. Their mom objected strongly at first, not believing that he would make it, but he went anyway and got accepted as a trainee. Now because Minhyun became a trainee and he wasn't allowed to have his own cellphone, he and Hyomin lost contact before he earned it back. She felt alone during that time, but knew he wouldn't like her to be depressed so she worked hard and practiced until she was old enough to audition as well. By that time, Hyomin actually forgot which company he went to, and she went to JYP Entertainment herself. The same happened with their mother objecting, and Hyomin did the exact same thing.

He tries to talk with her as much as he can with his busy schedule, but he knows she's up to date with his activities anyway. He has mentioned in interviews that he has a little sister that he loves very much but never let them knew she was training to be an idol as well. He wants to reveal it later when she debuts so she won't be compared to him.

→ Best Friend, Choi Minki (Ren) ⋮ 20 (I), 21 (K) ⋮ Idol in NU'EST ⋮ Cute yet mature, and open-minded. ⋮ Hyomin talks to Ren about anything and everything she can. She loves his cute yet mature nature, which she thinks is similar to herself, and trusts him with anything.

Hyomin approached her first because Kate speaks English and Hyomin wanted to practice her skills by trying to communicate in English. At first it was broken English, but Kate found it cute coming from Hyomin, so they became friends with Kate helping her English as well.

→ Classmate/Friend, Oh Hayoung ⋮ 19 (I), 20 (K) ⋮ Idol in APINK ⋮ Observant, dependent, and funny. ⋮ Hayoung is Hyomin's only close girl friend outside of the company, but Hyomin doesn't mind. Hayoung is kind of like a sister to her, and they get along really well because of Hayoung's shy but funny personality, and Hyomin's childish but sassy personality.
→ Sunbae, Choi Youngjae ⋮ 19 (I), 20 (K) ⋮ Idol in GOT7 ⋮ Sassy, quirky, and innocent. ⋮ Youngjae is Hyomin's sunbae, but they also trained for a short time as trainees. TRAINEE LIFE When Hyomin first entered as a trainee, she kept her lips locked about being Minhyun's sister, just saying she has an older brother when asked. She worked hard and always practiced the dances over time, allowing the company to cast her as a backup dancer for many artists of JYP. She made friends with her fellow trainees, but didn't bother with the ones who treated her as competition rather than trainees on the same level. 
When she met her celebrity sunbaes for the very first time, she became flustered and stuttered a lot. She's cooled down a lot since then, but they still from time to time. For the trainee sunbaes, Hyomin respects them for training for so long and still working hard towards their goal.

Because no one found a connection between the two, paparazzi assumed that they were dating. Later revealed that they are siblings, everyone felt silly and started supporting HIGH5 a bit more.
→ Tension within HIGH5 // Late 2015 // False // One on of Hyomin's really lazy days, she asked the members to leave her alone so that she could unwind by herself because she doesn't want to spread her negativity around, but fan-taken pictures made it seem as if the members were purposely outcasting her because of internal group conflicts. They are currently dating, after talking to each other endlessly after they first met. JR leaves sweet little messages for Hyomin whenever he can, just to brighten up her day, and to let her know he's thinking of her. Hyomin felt as if she was dreaming for that time, but when Sunyoung was catching up with Hyomin, Hyomin told her everything and asked if it was real, in which Sunyoung squealed very loudly and pinched Hyomin to show it was real. She still feels embarrassed around him in person because of his natural charisma, but she's slowly getting comfortable with starting skinship first. JR loves how she's trying hard to show she likes him back despite her shyness in a new relationship, and waits very patiently for her each time.

The two message and text each other as often as they can, and always have something to say to each other. Their relationship is still in the honeymoon phase, and gives everyone around them shiver because of how cute they are. " Oh my god, you guys are so cute, I'm going to throw up. " They try to secretly meet up at night when JR isn't too tired from practice or promotions and are their true selves around each other. They talk about their day or week and just enjoy each other's presence. 
 

HISTORY

" Remember when... "
They first met back in 2012 at NU'EST's debut showcase, when Hyomin went to cheer Minhyun on in person. She's heard stories about s and have always wanted to meet them because they sound very interesting. She went to meet them backstage and had a quick introduction before they went on to perform. After the showcase, Hyomin was allowed to tag along to the celebratory dinner, being Minhyun's sister, and got to know all the members more. JR caught her eye because of his charisma and his changing voice, but her shyness made her avoid his eye contact for the whole night, making JR think she didn't like him. 

" I can't forget "
Back in NU'EST's trainee days, Minhyun always bragged about his cute little sister, so when JR met Hyomin for the first time, she was exactly as how Minhyun described her. He was intrigued by her, but had to quickly focus on his performance, but he tried his hardest to impress her. At the celebratory dinner, JR kept silent as his usual self, and merely observed Hyomin at first, but she kept avoiding him and talked to the other members more. He felt a little saddened by this because he took it as she didn't like him. Minhyun later back at their dorm, saying she really liked him and JR tried warming up to her after that.

At first, JR was unsure whether or not Hyomin even liked him or not, seeing as she avoided any eye contact with him at NU'EST's celebratory dinner, but when Minhyun pushed him to do it, JR went out of his comfort zone to try to get to know her. After some subtle flirty messages, JR noticed that Hyomin was just a really shy person about her feelings and he loves when she shows more sides of herself to him that not many other people get to see. JR sometimes feels insecure about their relationship because he's never been in love before and can't help but doubt if this relationship will last. Minhyun figuratively slapped JR and told him to man up, because Hyomin really likes him and he shouldn't doubt anything. Minhyun gave JR a big pep talk, and left Hyomin's number for him to do whatever he wanted.
