personality — "Introvert": While he does slowly grow out of his shell, Taewoo is a very introverted person. It takes him a while to warm up to people and he is rarely the one who starts conversations. On variety shows, he tends to get camera shy and hardly talks (often like VIXX's Leo). When at events with the group, he'll tend to stick with one of the members instead of going off and greeting the other celebrities there by himself. Taewoo will slowly grow more out of his shell and become more outgoing, but at the time of their debut, think VIXX's Leo around Mydol era.
"Sensitive": Taewoo is a crybaby. When he watches a sad movie with the members, reads mean comments that netizens leave for him, and when X.Press wins awards, he turns into an emotional wreck. Taewoo will go really deep in his feelings, think about how much he cares about people in his life and thanks them with all the emotinos he has. Nobody, not even Taewoo himself knows why he's so over-emotional but to most, it's nothing bad and to fans, it's actually sort of cute. If he's singing so passionately on stage that it strikes a nerve he'll start crying.
"Shy": As said in the introvert description, Taewoo is quiet and keeps to himself. But it's not only that. If his senior or someone he likes says hi to him, he'll just put his head down and wave to them. When he first met the other X.Press members, he just looked at the floor the whole time before slowly getting friendlier with them.
"Optimistic": So judging by the traits above, you think he'd be a complete negative Nancy, right? Wrong. Actually, Taewoo is a very optimistic person. When the group he was in previously was failing, he always stayed positive that they'd make it big someday (even though they never did and the group ended up disbanding). During his trainee days, he'd always dream big and look on the bright side of things, hoping that someday he'd be in a group like Shinhwa (legends, haven't disbanded for 17 years, etc.). Heck if the worlds population was being eaten by zombies, he'd probably be telling all the survivors to looks on the bright side at the fact that they're still alive. While s can find his positiveness annoying sometimes (like when it's a completely obvious lose-lose situation), the fans find it cute.
"Lost": Now I don't mean lost in a depressing way; I mean it in more of a stupid way. Taewoo tends to get confused really easily and this gets him teased by the members a lot for. Example: If someone is speaking, he'll get randomly confused about halfway through whatever they're saying and quietly asks s afterwards what that person was saying. On variety shows, if he has to go somewhere by himself, he'll get lost and have to ask the PD where he's supposed to go. Many memes have been made about Taewoo being confused as well.

background — Taewoo's father is Yoo Young Jin, a very famous music producer in South Korea. His mother is Yoo Eunha, a classical musician. The two met through Taewoo's aunt, who is Young Jin's childhood friend. Pretty soon, they ended up dating, and after two years of being married, on June 19, 1992, Taewoo was born in Seoul, South Korea. After he was born, they ended up settling down in Incheon. Taewoo has one sister that is 19 years younger than him, named Yoo Eunji. As a baby, Taewoo was curious. He was always exploring under their furniture, climbing on tables, and getting his moms instruments and playing them (or attempting to). Taewoo's life in elementary school was pretty average and normal. But from an early age, he loved singing in front of his parents and playing the violin. He would videotape him singing to songs by Shinhwa, Fin K.L, H.O.T, and show them to his parents (which by the way, they loved). When Taewoo was 12, he was contacted by Korean Entertainment Company, Yejeon Media, and asked if he wanted to sign a contract with them after the CEO saw a video of him singing and playing the violin to Hug by DBSK. His parents were a little reluctant at first, but after seeing how much passion he had in his music, they allowed him to sign. In 2008, after 4 years of training, a mere 16 year old Taewoo debuted with 5 member Korean boy group: "Yurisangja" (which means Glass Box). He was the lead vocalist and the maknae as well, at the oldest being 23. However, only three months after they debuted, Taewoo was involved in a serious scandal that caused the whole group to disband. About three years later (2011), Taewoo was contacted by SC Entertainment and asked if he wished to sign with them. He greatfully accepted and has been training since then.

Entertainment Background — Taewoo became a trainee under Yejeon Media when he was only twelve years old. There, he trained for four years (2008) before debuting in a five member Korean boy group, Yurisangja, on March 9, 2008, as the maknae and lead vocalist. About 3 months after their debut, the leader, Jang Kyungwon, was having a birthday party at his friends college dorm and the other members of Yurisangja were invited. Taewoo had about 3 drinks that seemed like slightly bitter OJ and 4 cups of jello, which he was completely oblivious to the fact that both had heavy liquor in them. Taewoo was completely hammered and asked fellow band member Seo Ilhyun if he could use his car to go back to the dorm and sleep because it was too noisy to sleep in an empty room in the dorm (Taewoo has a drivers license, but no car). Ilhyun, being also completely drunk, gave Taewoo his car keys and told him not to wreck the car. Taewoo was going over 90 miles an hour when a woman in her mid-20s was crossing the street and Taewoo didn't stop. She was hit and rushed to the hospital after witnesses dialed 911. She was later pronounced dead at the hospital about 2 hours later. The internet exploded after Taewoo's drunk driving incident, some netizens even wanted him dead. It got so bad to the point where Taewoo would have panic attacks in the middle of the night. During Taewoo's trial, Yurisangja member Seo Ilhyun stayed by Taewoo's side the whole time and repeatedly blamed himself for giving Taewoo his car keys. About three months later, even after his parents pleading with the judge, Taewoo was found guilty and sentenced to 2 years in prison for manslaughter, underage drinking, and driving under the influence. About three hours after his sentence, Yejeon Media announced that Yurisangja had disband and that the members were released from their contracts. However, 4 months after he was convicted, the judge lightened his sentence to 3 months in prison, 120 hours of community service, and 1 year parole because of the victim's parents asking for a lighter sentence for him, as he appeared at the funeral of their daughter and truly seemed sorry for what he did. After his 3 months in prison were complete, Taewoo moved to Beaverton, Oregon and went to school at Sunset High School with Teen Top's L.joe. Seeing as how they were both Korean, they became besties immediately. His grades were pretty good as well (3.8 GPA). In 2011, Taewoo was contacted by SC Entertainment and asked if he was interested in becoming a trainee at their company after a video of him singing "U" by Super Junior was shown to them. Taewoo was reluctant to accept, as he felt that his life at school was fine and that returning to the entertainment scene would mean more hate comments from netz. But, after L.joe said that it sounded like a good deal and that they'd be able to see each other more often (cause L.joe already debuted with Teen Top at this point), Taewoo accepted and signed the contract. He had been training since then (2011).
