About YMSH #3: Chapters 1 and 2 are up!

I'd like to celebrate the reveal of the first two chapters of YMSH!

As promised, I will be using this blog to write up my progress on my story instead of including it at the end of every chapter so everyone can focus on the story and read my thoughts on it whenever they wanted :)

To start off, Chapter 1! It's a no-brainer that starting the story itself is the biggest challenge, but once I got going I couldn't stop! It was pretty hard trying to keep it light and still bring a little bittersweetness to the fact that Serin leads a somewhat double life, although I hope I conveyed that well enough for everyone.

Obviously this chapter was the equilibrium, how things are usually in the life of Serin because this story will mostly be in her point of view. Of course that doesn't mean we won't be able to see the others' perspectives so please anticipate those!

I hope some will understand and maybe love the the pop-culture references, but I did make sure it was all within the Korean context; research on South Korean censorship laws was a pain, but well worth it. And if you haven't guessed, yes I am into the Walking Dead and my roommate kindly gave me copies of the first few hundred comics. And the universe itself and what Robert Kirkman's take on 'What humanity is capable of in the worst scenario' is very fascinating. This will probably go into the story somewhere hahaha

Also, if it's not clear yet, I set the story to be in a South Korean high school where rules on uniform are a little bit more relaxed, for example students can dye your hair only in natural-looking colours and have piercings (more on that later~). The legal drinking age in South Korea is 18, but even then we are all aware that some break that rule. That's not to say I'm encouraging it but let's get real, so there will be instances where you will see these high school young 'uns have a drink, or two, or many orz

Don't drink recklessly, drink responsibly everyone.

And yes, Serin's parents were unimaginative when it came to naming their children :')

Moving onto Chapter 2, ahhh I enjoyed writing this one. It's more of how the four kids interact with one another, and a little glimpse into their friendship. Obviously, even though Serin doesn't go out with her friends that much it's clear that they haven't isolated her because they still invite her to things, which shows how much they care *cue awwws*

My favourite part has to be the sharpie and discussion; I wanted to convey Seulgi and Serin's 'girl power' attitude and it will come up in later scenes because FEMALE EMPOWERMENT YO. This is interesting because as far as I'm aware there isn't really a huge movement in South Korea regarding gender equality, particularly at work. I guess with the President being female it already kinda shows how progressive South Korea is on that front? idk, enlighten me please~

But that scene was probably my favourite in this chapter, second being the texting between Sehun and Serin. I don't have siblings, but I imagine conversations like this are common? Brick me with carrots if I'm wrong :')

Speaking of which, a little clarification on that! The names I gave them are what the other person has them as in their contacts, so Serin would be 'Noona' to Sehun, and Sehun would be 'Pokerface' to Serin. Also in Chapter 1, 'Wisdom my ' is Seulgi; her name is indigenous to Korea and means Wisdom. Hope that makes sense now!

As an afterthought, I have an important question: how would you describe Min Yoongi's voice, apart from devastatingly y?

You will probably not believe me, but I spent 1.5 hours a while thinking of that.
