You Make My World Stop...

Intoxicated With You

Honestly speaking, this was the worst day in Baekhyun’s plain life.

Sure, he’d had enough bad days, like the one when his parents divorced, his father leaving their small family and ignoring the fact that his kid was only ten back then. One of his children at least. Refusing to bond with his younger brother (or have any kind of thing tying them to each other), he took his mother’s maiden name as soon as he turned eighteen, becoming Byun Baekhyun. He didn’t blame the other at all, considering that he came from the love that sprung from a love affair. If there was something he felt, it was pity and maybe just a bit of jealousy.

The following bad day in his life happened when he didn’t pass the college entrance exam. Like it wasn’t enough that his mother was thinking about getting married again, he had to listen to all of her nagging and a speech, in which she kept stating how disappointed he made her feel, how all of her years of suffering had gone to waste and he was just like his father: ungrateful, demanding without giving anything back, taking advantage of what she had to offer instead.

Baekhyun decided to move out soon after, making her regret ever comparing him to that piece of trash of a person, whom he refused to call father any more. He was lucky to have his friends and their neverending support. Kyungsoo and Jongdae helped him find a cheap place to stay at. It was a small apartment, with a kitchen and a bathroom, a living room that he could sleep in too, near the café he had been working at since highschool as a part-timer, now accepting the full time deal.

That’s where he met the most handsome guy in the world and his present boyfriend, being head-over-heels in love with him ever since day one. He couldn’t help but fall for the other’s personality and looks, as soon as he set his eyes on him, when one day he came rushing in the small café Baekhyun was working at, hair all over the place and glasses slightly slipping off his nose. He kept stating apologies towards the other customers, something along the lines “I almost thought the storm was going to catch up to me. I was clearly wrong.”. And then a thunder was heard from outside, making the tall man get smaller in his seat and shiver a little, his brown eyes growing with fear and a bit of shock.

Baekhyun just giggled and pushed his order in front of him, coughing to get his attention. The other just flashed an embarrassed smile and thanked him, still amazed by the calmness displayed by the coffee shop worker. Then there came the sentence that sparked something inside of Baekhyun, a thing that no matter how hard he tried he couldn’t make it go away “Hi. I’m Chanyeol.”. It was pretty sad that the man had him wrapped around his finger just from this much, but his deep, husky voice and that playful look would’ve made anyone fall in love right then and there (Baekhyun thought).

Soon after they’d started dating (which clearly was inevitable), they moved in together in the older’s house (apparently, Chanyeol was born just a few months apart from him). That was the first time Baekhyun experienced full bliss. He finally felt loved and wanted, like he belonged and nothing could ruin that…

Or so he thought… Just because he didn’t get into a prestigious college or something similar, didn’t mean that others didn’t. Well, Baekhyun didn’t care about the rest of the world, his only interest was in a certain Park Chanyeol. His boyfriend had big dreams, ones that went past the borders of South Korea, so far they reached a place the older didn’t even want to think about since it was stealing the only person that brought happiness in his life.

And that’s how this worst day happened. He wanted to be supportive, but in fact he was really anxious and constantly hoped that his loved one would change his mind instantly and shred the plane ticket to pieces. It was too big of a wish, being left with the urge to beg on his knees Chanyeol not to leave. Of course he didn’t do that. He had too much pride, so he let himself get hurt instead.

“I’ll be back before you know it!” the younger spoke softly, knowing that Baekhyun was feeling really nervous. They had been talking about this for months, only recently reaching an agreement that Chanyeol could leave only if he followed the other’s small (not really) requests. He had to be away for six months, after getting into that exchange student program, his final destination being the States.

“I’ll be fine. Stop looking at me like that.” Baekhyun stated and hated the stinging in his eyes. All of his hiding would go to waste if he started crying in front of his boyfriend, especially on the day of his departure. He had secretly wept in the bathroom when Chanyeol was asleep or in their shared bedroom when he wasn’t at home, every day since he found out about that decision the latter took.

Baekhyun really hated this (a lot) and it wasn’t the fact that he didn’t trust his boyfriend. Actually, the belief that he was lacking was the one that bothered him the most. He was almost sure that after Chanyeol left, he’d be really infatuated with all the exotic beauties he’d come face to face with in the States and he’d forget about a certain Byun Baekhyun that was waiting for him back home.

“Just know that I love you no matter what, okay? Always. Like we promised.” Chanyeol confessed, kissing the older lovingly. Let me hear you say that when you come back and then I’ll truly believe it, Baekhyun thought, giving one last hug, before his boyfriend grabbed his suitcase to head towards the long line of passengers. Chanyeol suddenly felt someone tug on his shirt, refusing to let go. He turned around to see the older peering up at him from behind his black bangs “I-I love you too and I’ll be waiting.”.

The first month went by quite fast, but nothing could surpass the cheesiness of it. Apparently, since Chanyeol had sensed that Baekhyun wasn’t fully agreeing with his desire to leave, he placed little clues for him to find, in the weirdest of places.

One day, a week in their long distance relationship, the older was preparing something to eat for lunch, and searched around the kitchen for a certain ingredient. What he came across was the perfect recipe for love. On a small note, hidden inside one of the cupboards, were words written by his boyfriend that simply read: "If all else perished and you remained, I should still continue to be; and if all else remained and you were annihilated, the universe would turn to a mighty stranger.".

Baekhyun couldn’t stop the tears that kept on falling, hunger long forgotten, now missing Chanyeol even more. If there was one thing he came to love even after highschool ended, that would be Emily Bronte’s book, Wuthering Heights. He discovered it through his literature teacher, that had insisted they’d read it and make a long review as one of their final projects. It was written so beautifully and Baekhyun could relate so much to some of the characters, that he couldn’t help but adore every bit of it. Chanyeol was aware of that, as their second date had them both fighting over which movie to watch, the 2009 version of Wuthering Heights putting Transformers to shame as the older won the battle.

That discovery gave Baekhyun no rest, as he kept searching throughout every room of his small apartment, not missing even a corner. He spent hours doing only that, ignoring the growling of his stomach as he gathered more and more notes. The man ended up on his couch, laughing through his tears as he thought about some of the places Chanyeol had chosen as hiding for his quotes (one behind the toilet, one covered in a plastic bag and put in the shower head -so that’s why it wasn’t working properly-, one put among his pile of underwear -of course he’d hide one in there- and another stuck to a bottle of chocolate-scented lube, the one Baekhyun hated the most, so they ended up never using it after Chanyeol had bought it -if I could get laid now, I’d even be willing to try this-).

He read every piece of paper carefully, over and over again, feeling butterflies playing in his stomach (although that might have been the hunger) and giggling like a teenager in love from time to time, just a few standing out more than the others, having all of his attention set on what was written on them.

  • You’re more myself than I am. Whatever our souls are made of, mine and yours are the same.”.
  • I can not live without my life! I can not live without my soul!”.
  • I have to remind myself to breathe - almost to remind my heart to beat.”.
  • Baekhyun, I am you – you’re always, always in my mind - not as a pleasure, any more then I am always a pleasure to myself - but, as my own being.”.
  • If anyone loved you with all the power of their soul for a whole lifetime, they couldn't love you as much as I do in a single day.”.

A/N: I hope you enjoyed this! It was like a short prologue or something. This is going to get more depressing and maybe angstier (just a little warning). It won't have  too many chapters (I hope). Oh, and yes. Those quotes (the stuff written on the notes) are all from Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte (I couldn't help it. I love that book.).
