Pairing: Seulgi/Irene

Summary: The number of times Joohyun catches Seulgi staring.

A/N: Inspired by Seulgi’s eyes that oozes with charisma, and Joohyun’s nerdy glasses. (PS. This is cliché, but I still hope you’d enjoy reading ^^V)

 

                                              

 

The first time Joohyun catches Seulgi staring at her was when she was dissecting a frog in their Biology class.

 

Thanks to her clumsiness, she managed to get the frog’s blood on her white lab coat and a little bit of it on her glasses. The first thing she did was look around and pray that no one saw—

 

 

Someone saw.

 

Never mind then. She’s someone Joohyun doesn’t know, so it’s easy to pretend to be cool. But she was pissed off for being caught, really. Why can’t she mind her own business? Why couldn’t she just concentrate on the frog instead of looking around?

 

With one last glance, Joohyun averted her gaze at the girl who caught her at her most vulnerable state. She gracefully wiped the blood stain on her glasses and continued to work on the damn frog.

 

It’s a good thing the unknown girl has pretty eyes though, so it’s okay.

 

 

 

The second time, Joohyun was in her choir practice. She was concentrating hard on their conductor when she caught someone at the back of the room watching them— me? She’s not sure, but she feels the weight of the stare on her.

 

Joohyun could never forget that face (or eyes). Biology girl! Why are you here?

 

The girl has the same look when Joohyun first caught her looking. No smile, just looking, as if Joohyun was interesting. She doesn’t understand why this girl keeps studying her with her eyes though.

 

The only explanation Joohyun can come up with was because Wendy was behind her.

 

 

And besides, she doesn’t know this girl with pretty eyes. But maybe Wendy does.

 

 

 

 

The third time Joohyun caught Biology girl staring was in the library, but Wendy wasn’t behind her. No one was behind her. Only books.

 

Joohyun slightly move down her book and scrutinized the girl. Is she looking at me or behind me? So she can’t help but crease her cute little eyebrows slightly at the girl as she questions herself of what made her so interesting to the other girl.

 

 

Oh well, a busy brain is good though, Joohyun thought. She let it go one more time and covered her face with the book she's holding so she won’t see the distraction.

Unknown to Joohyun, Seulgi gave her first smile her way.

 

 

 

 

The fourth time was when Joohyun’s clumsy side appeared in front of Seulgi again.

 

She miraculously tripped over nothing, and managed to spill her books on the floor along with her glasses. With her blurry vision, she gathered the books around her first and looked for the hardest object to see— her glasses. Why couldn’t I pick a brighter frame?!*

 

“Here.”

 

Someone grabbed Joohyun’s hand and put her glasses on her palm. Still dazed from the aftermath (because Joohyun felt like her world shook when she tripped), Joohyun could only look at the blurry person in front of her.

 

“Oh. Thank you.”

 

“No problem. Be careful next time.”

 

With her limited vision, she could only see the white of her teeth when she smiled. The girl stood there and just looked at Joohyun a little bit longer, until Joohyun felt the familiar weight of the stare and squinted her eyes to have a better view.

 

But the girl was gone before Joohyun could properly focus her eyes. And when she finally came back to her senses and remembered she was holding her glasses, she put it on quickly and looked at the direction the girl went off.

 

But Seulgi was already ten steps away, and all Joohyun could do was wonder.

 

 

The bell rang, and it felt like thousands of students came out at once to block her view of the girl. Joohyun could only sigh in frustration.

 

 

 

 

On the fifth time, Joohyun unintentionally showed her dorky side.

 

She was on her way to the rest room. It was during class hours so the hallway was basically a dead zone. So Joohyun can’t help but sing the song stuck on her head that her seatmate (damn you, Sooyoung!) was singing before she left for the rest room.

 

As she grew closer to her destination, her singing got louder until she got to the rap part of the song, topping it off with her very own choreography.

 

“Pops nae ibane— JESUS CHRIST!!”**

 

And there she was again, Biology girl— giving Joohyun her most embarrassing, most shocking moment of her life— washing her hands in front of the sink (and not surprisingly staring back at her).

 

“I thought Red Velvet came.” Said Biology girl with her charming smirk, while Joohyun just stood frozen with the rap part’s choreography.

 

Joohyun only moved when she realized Biology girl was staring at her for some time when she already had finished washing her hands. She squinted her eyes at the girl again trying to understand why Joohyun seem to be her favorite thing to look at, and that was the only time Seulgi moved just because she was afraid Joohyun might see through her the longer she look.

 

Before Seulgi could leave though, she can’t help but tease Joohyun a little bit by singing “la la la la la la la la la”.

 

All Joohyun could do was turn red and curse Sooyoung over and over again (for singing, and then making Joohyun sing too) until she finished her business.

When Joohyun came back, she gave the biggest shock in Sooyoung’s life by hitting her at the back of her head. Hard.

 

“WHAT THE ACTUAL FCUK JOOHYUN?!”

 

And Joohyun shouted back, “I HATE RED VELVET!!”

 

 

 

 

Joohyun thought as she felt the weight of Biology girl’s stare again. They were in lecture, and Joohyun caught the girl staring at her when she glanced at her direction.

 

Normally, people caught staring will avert their gaze once their subject caught them, but not this one. And it’s giving Joohyun the stress of her life when she wondered why.

 

“This has got to stop.” Joohyun muttered to herself, finally deciding to approach Biology girl once and for all (if Biology girl doesn’t have the guts to approach her first).

 

When the class ended though, Biology girl was nowhere to be found.

 

 

Next time, Joohyun would be ready for sure.

 

 

 

And Joohyun was ready, alright.

 

Because when Biology girl stared at her, Joohyun was already staring back. It felt like an accomplishment, so she can’t help but to give a smirk while she walked closer to Biology girl.

 

“Hi. I’m Bae Joohyun.” She said to the already smiling girl while she took a seat across from her without asking first.

 

“Kang Seulgi.”

 

“Oh, so now you’re giving me your name?!”

 

“Uhm, I don’t see what you mean.”

 

Joohyun sighed, “Never mind. At least I already have your name. It’s a bit tiring calling you Biology girl.”

 

“Biology girl?” Seulgi laughed like it was the most ridiculous thing she ever heard (which it actually was so far).

 

“Anyway, Bae Joohyun, what can I do for you?”

 

“Well,” Joohyun squinted her eyes, a habit she developed during their staring game. “If I’m not mistaken, you’ve been staring—”

 

“You’re not mistaken.”

 

“I KNEW IT!” Joohyun pointed a finger at Seulgi accusingly, and Seulgi could only laugh again. “I MEAN WHY? Do you have any idea—”

 

“Calm down.”

 

“— how much your stare distracts me? Not to mention—”

 

“Distract you?”

 

“— it’s totally embarrassing me! You just have no idea—”

 

“Slow down, Joohyun.”

 

“— do you? A total of freakin six times—”

 

“Six?”

 

“— SEVEN! If you count now!”

 

“Seven, huh.”

 

“Yes. So tell me why.”

 

Seulgi smirked, that same smirk during the fifth time Joohyun caught her staring (not that she’s counting, nope). She let Joohyun rant while enumerating the times Seulgi’s stare was giving her a hard time. This girl just keeps pulling Seulgi’s attention over and over, and she doesn’t mind one bit— because Joohyun could have all of Seulgi’s attention. She can have all of Seulgi, to be more specific. She only hoped Joohyun wouldn’t mind to have all of her.

 

“Out of all the times I’ve been staring,”

 

Seulgi smiled at her fisted hands to give her courage. She finally looked up to Joohyun and stared, like how she stared at her during all those (thousand) times— like giving her soul for Joohyun to take.

 

“You only caught seven?”

 

And that shut Joohyun up.

 

 

 

 

 

* Why couldn’t I pick a brighter frame?! – If there’s anyone who’s confused by this line (possibly people who doesn’t have any problem with their vision lol), it was inspired by my own experience actually haha (because I have a really bad eye sight). When I find things without my glasses, the hardest thing to find for me is my glasses because it has a light colored frame and I have a hard time seeing its outline. If only the outline is more defined, I prob won’t have a hard time looking for it. And since I noticed Joohyun wearing kinda the same thing, I wrote it up there lol.

A/N: This is another sporadic inspiration (because when I look at it, it kinda felt rushed?). This is only my way to let out some stress, so bear with me? I kinda forgot how to write after so many years, so forgive the mistakes since I’m still testing the waters. You’d probably see me around irregularly cause I’m probably not ready to write longer ones. And I crave comments! They’d be much appreciated no matter how short ^^ And yes, I’m open to constructive criticisms.
