whiteandblue.

Dara breathed out a heavy sigh as soon as she placed her bags on the floor and fell on the small bed. Travelling was always something stressful for her, all the post flight commotion and what not got on her nerves.

Especially since due to her horrible luck she had to resort to waiting for her flight until dead in the night. Hours and hours of squirming and squeezing to find a comfortable position to sleep in to no avail. So she just had to watch the in flight movies for the rest of the long, terrible flight.

If only she could shut her eyes for a few seconds, just to forget the world and her current situation for only a moment. Although a moment with her eyes closed could very well mean several hours with her current energy levels.

On the positive side, the sun was out and shining bright. Dara loved the sun, although the humidity she could do without. Maybe she could move here too, but not with the soon to be newlyweds.

She then sprung up yet again, this time she went to freshen up in the bathroom. The hot water of the shower soothed her, though it also brought back her sleep. So before she ended up asleep in the shower, she stepped out and began work with her makeup.

As she dabbed BB cream on her skin, certain thoughts couldn’t help but flood her already troubled mind. Thoughts and memories concerning the past that he once starred in. And because of him, the memories amounted to perfection.

Honestly, beneath all the jealousy and confused hatred Dara had for the woman, she had to admit that his future wife surely is the luckiest person in the world. Only being his friend turned girlfriend was heaven on earth for Dara, marriage would be pure bliss.

Before she began her dash outside, the sound of her phone ringing interrupted her focus. A beep with a text from the one and only, least expected in her list, or in Dara’s case he who shall not be named. Yet here he was texting her with a simple message;

Hey, hope you’ve made it - Kris

Before she could even relax, Dara found herself attacking the onscreen keys of her iPhone to text back tens of messages that she later became unsure of. Which should she send? Yeah! I’m so excited for the wedding and glad you’ve found happiness with someone else? No, too long. And I’d be partly lying, she thought. Yeah whatever. Nope, too mean. After minutes of debate, she finally landed on what she thought was the most suitable one;

Yeah, see you there

And with that, she continued on downstairs. Upon request, a cab was brought to her within ten minutes. It was too late to rent a car; she didn’t mind spending a few dollars on a drive. Not to mention she had no idea how to get around this island paradise.

She still couldn’t believe that their wedding was in Cuba. It was a tad overdoing things; after all they could have held it in Seoul. But then again it’s a wedding; it should be all about overdoing things.

It was simply a matter of opinion to her; she would have preferred to have a simple quiet one. Since Kris craved privacy she guessed that’s the main reason behind having it away from...civilization- away from the bustling city and bright lights.

If she assumed right, they would have their honeymoon here too. The thought of it made Dara want to throw up, maybe because of the strong jealousy she had for both of them. She must have been the only person against this wedding.

Although, even though she was against it, there’s nothing she could really do about it.

Dara’s little knowledge of Spanish came in handy for the taxi driver could not understand any other language. It took her millions of gestures and little phrases she had learned to simply get him to start the car. Getting him to actually drive her there was another story that Dara surely would narrate to her friends back home.

In fact once they reached, she actually remembered to thank the heavens above. It’s only by luck they didn’t get lost.

Many people had arrived, some Dara faintly recognized.  Nervousness suddenly overcame her, for whatever reason that she didn’t know yet. Late timing could be her worst fear at the moment, along with general nerves and anxiety. Especially for a person who didn’t stand out in public, someone like her.

Nevertheless, she paid the taxi man the required amount which she assumed to be a few measly dollars. That’s worth more than measly around here, Dara assured herself as she handed him his pay with timid hands.

A million and one questions were flooding the girl’s mind. Mainly concerning her firsthand appearance. Hair, choice of suitable dress and whatnot. Unlike most of the other people here, her status stood far from wealthy.

Well, one of her fears assured true she later discovered. According to the time on her watch and the required arrival time; she was forty five minutes late.

Almost all the eyes were on her, maybe everyone’s. Apart from one, one she wouldn’t mind landing on her. His back faced the opposite direction, his attention far from hers. A few people were around him, discussing something obviously between them.

Dara could only spot gestures, and when he turned slightly to the left, she could notice the ever so perfect smile etched on his lips. He burst into light silent chuckles as the gestures and unreadable words continued.

Many glanced several times at their watches, most likely wondering where the bride was and when exactly she would arrive. Now even the groom himself looked anxiously around; shooting his companions looks of question which unfortunately for him could not be answered.

Suspense filled the atmosphere and the car which everyone waited to spot from afar had still not yet arrived. The car which would carry the bride.

Ten minutes went by, then thirty, then forty. People even began to leave. Small children began crying with impatience, some whining endlessly and the less noisy ones moving around. From my seat at the far back I could see Kris growing tenser by the minute.

The master of ceremonies tried entertaining the lot but it didn’t work. Perhaps if he began this earlier on it would have worked but now people were far too impatient to listen. They were funny forms of entertainment, and if he tried them when Dara showed a bit more happiness she would have laughed.

Just then, one of the best men walked over to Kris and whispered something in his ear. Disappointment flushed in his face and his hands trembled slightly. No one knew what they said to him; though it didn’t take rocket science to figure out it brought him sadness.

The news passed on the MC, who then grabbed the microphone yet again.

“We regret to inform you all this but,” he paused for a moment, he too taking in the news, “the wedding’s been cancelled.”

Everyone’s mouth, including Dara’s dropped with shock. Especially Dara as she figured Kris expected this to be very special to him. When she saw him walk away with his head hung low, she couldn’t help but feel a pang of guilt.

Because after all, she never would have never wanted the wedding take place given the choice, although she didn’t expect her wish to come true. Now she felt guilty, ashamed and heartless. That smile that shined brightly a few hours ago was replaced with a frown barely visible from her angle of vision. Either way, it hurt her too.

After people had gone their separate ways in sad faces, Dara remained to see for herself what caused it. She probably was going too far with this, moreover being super snoopy but she didn’t care. She wanted to know why someone given the option to be with the man she always loved passed on that glorious opportunity.

So she sauntered to where they went. She wouldn’t have to worry about being spotted by them because they had long since disappeared. Her legs moved quietly and with plan, careful not to step on any stick lying around in the field or trip into a bush nearby.

Voices soon could be heard, Dara then knew she was close. Once there, she hid behind the open door, her head poking out ever so slightly.

“What do you mean she ditched?!” Kris yelled with much fury. Due to his post shock, he still couldn’t quite put the pieces together and figure it out on his own. His mind could not yet process the fact that his fiancé still had not arrived.

“Krystal called and said she wasn’t ready,” one of the best men replied as calmly as possible.

Krystal? So, that's her name.

“Not ready? Not Ready for what?!”

“She said she wasn’t ready for commitment Kris. She called and told us she took a flight back to Seoul  in the morning,” the news shocked even Dara. By now she must have already arrived so there’s no use for Kris to go chase after her, “Krystal didn’t want you to chase after her.”

Dara furrowed her eyebrows in both confusion and grief. No one could deny, it must have been painful for the person whom you loved so dearly and wanted more than anything to commit to them dump you at one of the worst times.

Utterly mind-boggling.

Kris paced around the room, his orbs scanning around frantically for something t
