A Dream-like Reality?

I place the worn-down photo frame on the side table and plop down on the oversized couch. I scoot deeper into the cushions to bring my knees to my chest and rest my head. It feels wonderful to be out of the cramped hospital room and into my own space, but it’s been 4 years since I’ve lived in the outside world and now that I am, I’m absolutely terrified. I realize I have no one left in this world to care for me. The accident that put me in a coma left me parent-less and being that both of them were the only child, I have no living relatives I could stay with or contact. Their own parents had all passed away when I was younger and I understand now, they had probably felt the same way when they realized the same thing. I’m sure they thought they’d never leave before me. Hell, I never even imagined that they would, but they did. The accident was on Valentine’s Day, we had all dressed up to go eat out at the fancy restaurant that opened. I had worn the new pink dress mom had bought me and she dawned on her own red dress. Dad wore his black suit and a red bow tie to match mom and combed his hair back, something he’d rarely do. We all climbed into Dad’s silver car, chattering in excitement.
