Chapter Twenty Six
Haeri's WorldAfter many more pictures and laughter, the Lee family, plus Sehun, finally heads out to enjoy some delicious barbecue together. Haeri and Sehun stay close to each other; there's there almost magnetic pull between them. Dinner is a delicious, happy affair involving lots of catching up. It turns out that Sehun has been accepted to Yonsei University, another top university in the country, alongside Haeri's own Seoul National University and the prestigious Korea University. Haeri can't say she's completely surprised: she knows from her math club days that Sehun is extremely intelligent and sharp, though he doesn't always show it.
After driving back to the house, Sehun finally bids the Lee family goodbye. As Haeri closes the door regretfully and steps back inside, she asks her parents, "Did you guys plan that with him?"
Her mom winks at her, and Haeri laughs out loud. "Thanks again. This day was indescribably awesome." She gets a hum of satisfaction in reply. It's late, so Haeri decides it's time to go to bed. Once she's in bed, she's tired but finds she can't get to sleep: the events of the day keep playing in her mind, over and over again. Once a whole hour has passed, she listens to some music and finally feels herself drifting off...
Like the news of her getting into Seoul National University, the news that Oh Sehun has asked Lee Haeri to prom (and that Haeri said yes) spreads through the school quickly. Haeri finds herself appraised by girls once again as she walks down the hallways. Reassuring herself that it's the last week of school for her, as seniors are not required to come the actual last week, Haeri ignores the judging coolly.
Perhaps the hardest part about everything is facing Lina. Haeri knows that Lina firmly believes that Sehun is no good and wants her to move on. So it's with a bit of apprehension when she plops down next to Lina at lunch that day. To her utter relief, Lina is not upset at all. Lina shakes her head a little bit, but it's with a smile.
"Haeri," she proclaims, "things seem to have a way of figuring themselves out with you. I shouldn't have worried."
Haeri ducks her head in response and shakes her head too. "Yeah, they do, don't they? I guess I am pretty lucky sometimes."
The rest of the day runs smoothly, as does the rest of the week. To Haeri, who is looking forward immensely to the weekend's prom, the week just can't pass fast enough. And then finally, at last, the weekend has arrived. Haeri wakes up on Saturday with a thrill in her heart; the anticipation that the dance is going to be great. She and Lina have made plans together to get ready; Lina's coming over at around two so that the girls can hang out and do their makeup together, and then around four-thirty the guys are coming over so they can take group pictures at the park nearby. After that, the pairs have each made their own reservations at different restaurants, so they'll be splitting up for that and meeting up again at the dance.
As Haeri didn't attend junior prom, she can't help feeling a little nervous, too. Mostly about how she should act and what kinds of songs she should expect them to play and- Shhh, she reprimands herself. You're just there to have a good time with Sehun, remember? She feels a little better after that.
At two, the doorbell rings: Lina is exactly on time. Haeri squeals and runs downstairs, excited, excited, excited. The fun is just beginning!
