On the 8^th of January 2514, a handful of people were sent a message offering them a spot to be beta-tester for a new virtual reality MMORPG called ‘Paradox.’ Read or unread, accepted or declined—several individuals were forced into testing the new game.

On the 27^th of January, the game was released to the public. It became a hit with raving reviews all over the world as the first virtual reality game experience. After only two days, ‘Paradox’ had 1.5million players and counting.

After a few weeks of the game being released several incidents of attempted suicide had been reported— oddly enough, all of them were players of the game. Fortunately none of the suicide attempts had succeeded, all cases had said to have fallen unconscious before any harm could be dealt.

All cases linked to Paradox were classified as ‘trauma’ and/or ‘addiction’. The game was soon banned globally and its company forced to shut down—but what could stop an unknown, untraceable company? Nothing—and so, the number of players continued to grow until almost all youth were seized by the game.

This story is is heavily based on MMORPGs (Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games) so I will do my best to explain terms non-players may not know. If you don't know a term or expression etc. you can just ask me or google it.

'Paradox Online' is inspired by Tower of God, 1/2 Prince, Moonlight Sculptor and Sword Art Online, as well as my own experiences.
