Still A Jerk

Keeping up with the Jerk

Ami sighed as she looked at herself in the mirror. She was wearing a red casual baseball t-shirt and shorts with a pair of black sneakers. Her hair lay down over her shoulders and she was wearing light make up. She was, yet again, going on a date with Barom. After Barom's confession, they started going out on dates at least three times a week. Throughout that period, Ami wore comfortable and casual clothes, unlike the outfit she wore when Barom confessed to her. She found it more comfy and more natural whenever she wore her type of clothes whenever they went out. Barom didn’t mind.

It's been exactly a year since Barom confessed to her; It was their one year anniversary. Ami was happy with their one year together. Sure, Barom had his 'jerk' attitude, which Ami both loved and hated. They had bad times and good times, and Ami was happy in having both. There was only one thing bothering Ami's mind. Barom never said 'I love you' to her.

Whenever she would ask her friends, they would always say that their boyfriends have already said those three words to them. Most of them were surprised that Barom hasn't said those words to her, although they were the first couple to become official. Ami once brought up saying 'I love you' to Barom first with her friends but they all said 'no' to the idea. According to them, the guy should say those three words first.

"Just break up with him." Seolhwa once told her, hearing her story. "It's been a year and he still hasn't said it. He probably doesn't really feel anything." she said. Ami couldn't help but feel pained at Seolhwa's words. She might be correct with Barom not having feelings for her, or she may not be correct. Miho didn't help her confusion either.

"Maybe he's just not ready to say it yet, or maybe he doesn't know how he should say it. Just give him time." Miho said. Ami didn't know who to believe nor what to do. Chaeyoung only told her she was over thinking. Maybe she is, maybe she isn't. Ami wasn't sure; She isn't really sure of anything at the moment.

Her phone buzzed from her bed, signaling that she received a message. She grabbed her phone from the bed and quickly read the message. It was from Barom.

'I'm here' it read. They've agreed on meeting up outside Ami's apartment. It was like that for the whole year. Barom would pick her up, with his car, at her apartment and would drive her back to her apartment at the end of the day. It was their usual routine.

Ami glanced one last time at the mirror before taking her bag and walking out of her room. She passed by the living room, where her friends was, and bid them good bye before walking out of the door and to the elevator, but not before hearing sarcastic words like ‘still going out with him’ and ‘just break up with him’ from Seolhwa. Ami could only roll her eyes and shake her head at her friend. Ami bit her lip as she waited for the elevator to arrive. She didn't know how to act in front of Barom. She was still bothered with the fact that he hasn't said those three words to her. Seolhwa's words made her more uncomfortable.

The elevator arrived and she quickly went inside and pressed the button for the ground floor. She sighed and bit her lip. She was really confused. It wasn't that big of a deal at first, but when she asked her friends, she started to think otherwise. Ami can't help but regret asking her friends about it. She wouldn't think so much about it if her friends didn't tell her those stuff.

The elevator door opened and she took a deep breath.

'I'll just enjoy myself today' she thought to herself before she walked out of the elevator and out of the apartment. She was greeted by Barom's car in front of the apartment. She walked towards it and looked inside, through the window, to see no one inside. Ami was about to look around for Barom until a pair of arms wrapped around her, startling her.

"Ah!" she yelped in surprise and gripped the arms holding her.

"Hey." Barom sang. Ami glared at him and Barom could only chuckle at her startled expression.

"Missed me?" he asked as he removed his arms from Ami's body and opened the door of the passenger's seat. Ami turned around to look at him before speaking.

"Barely." she stated simply and was about to enter Barom's car when he stopped her.

"Are you sure you didn't miss me?" he asked, once again, with a sly smile. Ami nodded with a serious look and Barom chuckled. "How about this?" he asked before he quickly leaned in and pecked Ami's lips, startling her once again, "Did you miss that?" he asked, pertaining to the kiss. Ami looked down and pushed Barom away, making Barom chuckle once again.

"So you did miss me." he teased with a smirk on his face. Ami glared at him and smirked back at him.

"Maybe,Or maybe not." Ami said and stuck her tongue out at him before entering the car. Barom laughed as he closed the door and walk to the other side of the car. Ami, on the other hand, could only smile. Although she acted like she didn't like Barom's kisses, she did.

"So where are we going?" Ami asked, once Barom was on his seat.

"Where do you want to go?" Barom asked back as he started the car.

"I want to eat." she replied simply, remembering that she didn’t eat dinner yet.

"Then we'll go eat!" Baromdeclared excitedly and started driving. For the whole drive to the restaurant, Ami and Barom just kept on bickering and teasing each other. Although they've already become a couple, their bickering and teasing still hasn't change.

In just a few minutes, they arrived at the restaurant. Barom parked the car and Ami quickly went out of the car. Barom followed her. Ami stared at the place in front of her; It was Barom's favorite steak house. They visited the steak house numerous times already, but mostly when there's a special occasion since it was quite expensive eating at.

"Come on." Barom said as he automatically placed his hand on Ami's waist and started to walk towards the restaurant, dragging Ami with him. They sat on their usual table, a round table with round continuous seats, and started looking through the menu. They were about to call a waiter to get their orders when someone called Barom.

"Hey Barom!" a man's voice called. Both, Ami and Barom, looked at the owner of the voice. A wide grin suddenly appeared on Barom's face and Ami couldn't help but smile at the two people approaching their table.

"Dabin!"Barom greeted as he stood up from his seat and hugged the said man. "Hey Chanmi." he greeted the girl with him.

"Hi guys." Ami greeted them as she stood up with a big smile.

"It's nice to see you guys here." Dabin said looking at the two of them, "What have you guys been up to?" he casually asked. Dabin and Chanmi were Barom'sfriends, and now Ami's friends as well. When Barom introduced Ami to Chanmi and Dabin, they welcomed her and treated her nicely.

"It's our one year anniversary today." Barom said as he wrapped an arm on Ami's waist and pulled her closer.

"Really? That's great! Congratulations, you two." Chanmi congratulated them. They talked for a few more minutes and catched up with each other's lives for a bit. Ami couldn't blame them. It's been a while since the three of them saw each other.

"We have to go now. We still have a party to go to." Dabin said and bid his goodbyes to the two.

"Have fun, you two." Chanmi said and the two of them started to walk away.

"Thanks! See you guys soon. I love you guys!" Barom yelled before Chanmi and Dabin could walk out the restaurant. At the words 'I love you', Ami froze on her spot. Suddenly, she wasn’t feeling that hungry anymore.

'I love you'. The three words Barom hasn't said to her, she suddenly remembered.

"Let's order." Barom said and took his seat. Ami sat next to him and stared at the menu, not knowing what to order with her sudden loss of appetite. Barom called the waiter and told him his orders. He looked at Ami and waited for her order but got nothing as she stared at the menu.

“What are you getting?” Barom asked, seeing that Ami had no immediate plans on telling him her order. Ami sighed and gently placed the menu on the table before looking at him.

“I don’t really know.” She admitted, making Barom raise an eyebrow, “Can you order for me?” Ami requested as she closed the menu. Barom stared at her for a few seconds before saying something to the waiter. The waiter bowed to them and quickly left the table.

“Are you okay?” Barom asked as he wrapped an arm around Ami, “You usually don’t ask me to choose an order for you.” He pointed out. He was right. Ami didn’t like it when other people chose her meal for her. People tend to get what food she wants, and usually eats, wrongly. She didn’t trust others to order for her.

“Yeah,” she replied, laying her head on her boyfriend’s shoulder, not knowing what to reply. She couldn’t tell Barom what really bothered her. In fact, she felt a bit pathetic and over emotional. She was feeling down just because Barom hasn’t said ‘I love you’ to her. It didn’t seem much big of a deal. Hearing him say it to his friends wasn’t that comforting either. It was so easy for him to say to his friends. Why hasn’t he said those words to her?

“Or is it because you finally trust me to order food for you?” Ami heard Barom say, and as he says it, she could imagine him with a smirk on his face. Ami couldn’t help but smile and look at Barom who was looking at her with a teasing smile. She hit Barom on his shoulder and he couldn’t help but chuckle. He wasn’t totally wrong though. After a year with Barom, she’s slowly starting to trust him in choosing what she likes. But she still wasn’t fond of making others order for her either.

Shortly, their food arrives and Barom, once again, had a teasing smile on his face. Ami’s meal was set in front of her and she couldn’t help but smile seeing it was what she wanted.

“I chose the right one, right?” Barom asked, cockily, obviously knowing the answer. Ami rolled her eyes and ignored his question, earning a chuckle from Barom.

“You should trust me more.” He said and started eating his food. Ami just laughed at her boyfriend’s childishness before she started eating. They both ate in silence, with Barom bugging Ami from time to time. Ami was only half done with her food when a certain song played at the restaurant.

“Oh,” she heard Barom gasp, “I love this song.” He said and bobbed his head to the song. At the word ‘love’, Ami’s mood suddenly dropped. She didn’t want to feel down, but she couldn’t help it. Barom uses the word love even with music.

“Hey, hurry up and eat so we can leave.” Barom said when he noticed Ami just staring at her plate.

“I’m not hungry anymore.” Ami said as she pushed her plate away from her, suddenly losing appetite. Barom sat up on his sit, seeing Ami act weird. He scooted closer to her and wrapped his arms around her. By his touch, Ami flinched, surprising Barom.

“What’s up?” he asked, curious to why her girlfriend was acting that way, “Does the food taste bad?” he said, looking at the plate in front of him. Ami gently shook her head and removed Barom’s arms around her.

“No. I just lost my appetite.” She dryly said and looked away from him. Barom stared at her for a while before calling the waiter and asking for their bill. The waiter returned and they quickly paid the bill. Ami stood up and went out of the restaurant with Barom following her.

Ami walked straight, not really minding her surroundings. Barom took a good watch of her to make sure she wasn’t gonna bump into anything or anyone. He unlocked the doors to his car and Ami quickly went inside the passenger’s seat. Barom soon followed and sat at the driver’s seat. The car started, and Barom started to drive away from the restaurant.

They rode in silence; Barom driving quietly, and Ami just looking out the window as if she was the only person inside the car. Ami didn’t mind the silence. She was too busy thinking about what her friends said. On the other hand, Barom felt like dying. He didn’t mind the silence at all, but he knew that there was something wrong.

Barom turned at a familiar and parked in front of a mall. Ami looked at him, surprised and curious to why they were at the mall. Barom ignored her look and open his car door.

“What? Are you just gonna stare at me?” Barom asked, seeing that Ami had no plans on getting out of the car. He quickly went out of the car and closed the door before he started to walk to the mall. At his words, Ami couldn’t help but scoff and roll her eyes. She went out of the car and followed Barom, knowing that he had something in mind.

Ami walked a few feet away from Barom, making Barom roll his eyes and walk back to where Ami was. He sighed and wrapped an arm around Ami’s waist, and started to walk to his destination, dragging Ami with him. Ami just let him drag her. They stopped in front of a store, the numerous lights almost blinding them.

“What are we doing here?” Ami asked, not being able to hide the smile on her face. Barom smiled victoriously, seeing that his girlfriend was once again smiling.

They were at an arcade. The arcade Ami and Barom first got along at. The same arcade that the two of them shared their first kiss with each other.

“Why? You don’t want to play?” Barom asked, teasing Ami, “It’s okay. We can leave if you don’t want to.” He said                 and was about to turn away when Ami suddenly gripped his arm and pouted at him. Barom smirked at her and couldn’t help but chuckle. Ami just rolled her eyes and went inside the arcade, leaving Barom behind.

“Hey!” Barom called, catching up to Ami as she went to the arcade’s cashier. He smoothly wrapped his arms around Ami and putting his head on her shoulder, back hugging her. Ami placed her arms above his, savoring his touch. They stayed like that as Barom paid to the cashier and took their card. Barom pulled away from her and took her hand before dragging her to a basketball game.

They played around the arcade for hours; Running around to different games and just bickering with each other. Ami forgot what she was thinking about and Barom couldn’t be happier seeing Ami was back to her old self. There was only one thing more he had planned for the night, and he was sure that Ami was gonnaenjoy it.

“What are you doing?” Ami asked as Barom handed her a gun. She raised an eyebrow and glared at him, as if daring him to speak. But Barom wasn’t the type of guy to be intimidated with Ami’s glare.

“Let’s see if you’ve improved since when you last played.” He challenged, a smirk growing on his face. The last time she played a shooting game was a year ago, when Barom taught her. She did well when Barom guided her, but she was nothing when she played alone. She knew in herself that she didn’t improve at all, but she wasn’t the type to back down to a challenge either.

Ami took a deep breath and positioned herself in front of the screen. She tried to remember what Barom taught her and tried to imitate the way he positioned her hand on the gun. She focused on the screen and started to play. She tried her best to hit the enemies, but just like she predicted, she didn’t hit any of them. Ami scrunched her face, disappointed in herself, but still kept on playing.

In the middle of the game, she felt a hand go over hers and held the gun properly. She sighed, knowing it was only Barom. He guided her throughout the game. Memories of Barom’s confession, a year ago, came rushing into her mind. It was an unexpected confession, and unexpected feelings. Barom’s intention, to why they came to the arcade, was now clear to Ami; He wanted to re-create his ‘first move’ on her.

Ami smiled as she leaned back, leaning the back of her head on Barom’s shoulder. She let go of the gun and Barom swiftly wrapped his arms around Ami, once again back hugging her. Ami sighed as she felt Barom kiss the side of her head. She looked up at him and their eyes met. He smiled at her, making her smile back. Slowly, Barom inched his face closer to hers, and their lips touched. Ami pulled away first and stared at Barom’s eyes.

She opened to say something, but closed it again and shut her lips tightly. Ami wanted to tell him those words; the three words that she’s been dying to hear from him, but remembering what her friends said, she decided not to and to just shut her lips. She was going crazy; Just looking at this man’s eyes made her heart beat go wild. She loved him, she knew it. Her heart, her mind, and her body was screaming it. She loved him so much, but she wasn’t sure if he really felt the same way.

A loud beeping cut off her thoughts and her head quickly turned to the screen in front of them. The screen was all messy and the game looked like it couldn’t be played anymore.

“Oh!” Barom gasped as he saw the screen and removed his grip on Ami, making Ami a bit disappointed. He looked around and approached a young looking woman wearing the arcade’s uniform.

“Hi, something’s wrong with the game. Could you check it out for us?” he said as he pointed to the game. As Barom and the girl conversed, Ami couldn’t help but feel jealous. She wasn’t the type to get jealous too easily, but for some reason, she was.

Barom walked back to the game with the girl trailing behind him. Before the girl could get near the game, Ami took a deep breath and walked out of the arcade. She walked and walked, hearing the soft calls of Barom behind her. Somehow, her feet lead her to an isolated area. An area that’s too familiar to Ami.

"What's wrong?" Barom asked, as he grabbed Ami’s arm, stopping her from walking and turning her around to face him. Ami just looked at him with a straight face on, making Barom sigh in exasperation.

“What’s up? You’ve been acting weird ever since we were at the restaurant.” He pointed out and looked at her straight in the eye, “The girl fixed the game already.” He said. Ami looked away, not being able to look at him in the eye. She looked everywhere, except his eyes; Her eyes going from place to place. She was contemplating on whether to tell him or not about what was really bothering her. It was really something she was bothered about, but she found it too shallow to be even thinking about.

Barom tugged her arm and tried to wrap his arms around her, to hug her, but Ami stopped his hands and stepped away from him. Barom sighed.

“Hey! What’s wrong again?” he asked, exasperated, “You know, it’s kind of rude to just leave the girl there after she fixed the game.” He said.

"Nothing! Just go out with her if you want! You'll probably tell her 'I love you' immediately!" she bursted out. Ami took a few deep breaths before her eyes widened, realizing what she just said. She looked up at Barom with a surprised face.

"So, that's what this is about." Barom said and crossed his arms, “I knew it.” He admitted, as if he knew what bothered her all this time. Ami shook her head, trying to deny what she said and bring back what she said, but she couldn’t. No words came out of .

“I… I’m just not feeling well.” Ami excused as she hung her head down. Barom shook his head and sighed.

“No, you’re feeling fine.” He disagreed with her, “You meant what you said. I know what’s wrong.” He pointed out. Ami sighed and was about to defend herself when a sudden thought went to her. Ami glared at him and crossed her arms.

“Well if you knew what was wrong, why didn’t you just say it?” she said, irritated. She couldn’t accept the fact that he was bringing all the blame to her. If he knew why she was so bothered, why didn’t he just say those words in the first place.

“Why didn’t you say it?” he asked back, an eyebrow raising.

“Girls aren’t supposed to say it first!” Ami fought, her face scrunched up.

“And who told you that?” Barom teased, a smirk growing on his face. Ami scoffed, not being able to accept her boyfriend’s questions. She sighed loudly and turned around, about to leave, until Barom spoke, making her stop in her tracks.

“I love you.” He said making Ami froze in her spot. Ami’s heart beated faster, and she could feel her face heat up. She couldn’t believe her ears. He finally said those words.

“I don’t think you do.” Ami teased, a small smile escaping her lips, although she knew Barom wouldn’t be able to see it. She was about to start walking when two muscular arms wrapped around her body and hugged her tightly, not letting her get away.

“I really love you.” She heard Barom say behind her. Barom kissed the back of her head and she couldn’t help but smile in happiness. Ami gripped Barom’s arms and leaned her head back on Barom’s shoulders.

“I love you too.” She softly said, blushing, as she bit her lips.

“What? I can’t hear you. Can you repeat that.” Barom teased. Ami laughed and was about slap his arms until he turned her around to face him. He placed one of his hands on her waist and the other at the side of her face, caressing it. Ami’s hands was on Barom’s chest.

He leaned his forehead on hers and stared deeply into her eyes. Ami sighed in comfort and softly slid her hands up to his shoulders and wrapped her arms around Barom’s neck. Barom smiled before leaning in and capturing her lips with his. Their lips touched softly before he pulled away and leaned in once more, giving Ami another peck and pulling away, once again.

Ami pouted, not satisfied with kisses Barom gave her, and he couldn’t help but chuckle. Barom placed his hand behind her head and leaned in again for a deep kiss. He her bottom lips softly, asking for entrance, which she willingy gave.

After kissing for a while, they pulled away, out of breath. They breathed hard, still with their foreheads connected. Barom smiled and Ami smiled back.

“I love you.” He said, once again, making Ami’s smile grow wider.

“I love you too.” She said and was about to give him a small peck on the lips when he spoke.

“But you should’ve just said ‘I love you’ first, you know.” Baromteased, a big smirk on his face. Ami stopped on her tracks and glared at the man in front of her. Ami rolled her eyes and pushed Barom away before walking away from him.

“Great way to ruin the moment, jerk!” Ami said as she walked away. Barom chuckled before he started running, catching up to her.

“Look, I love you.” He said as he placed an arm on his waist, “But you really should’ve said it first rather than acting like this.” He teased and kissed Ami on the side of her head. Ami could only roll her eyes.

                “Jerk!”
