Three Hearts and Two Realms.

He gazed upon the full moon that was glowing beautifully under the dark sky, beaming its golden rays upon the ground of the realm. Estranged trees were wreathing and twining on the ground, a vast, green and comfy grass were carpeting above them. Unique flowers, brightened with beautiful colors were blooming out of the trees’ barks, sparkling a glitter of golden dust whenever beamed by the moon rays.

A boy in his teenage years was lying down cozily above the carpeted ground, his body sunken beneath the long and cozy grasses. His brown orbs were fixated upon the dimmed sky, his mind silently counting the numbers of the blinking stars encircling the beautiful moon, relishing the quiet moment by himself, appreciating all the little things around him. Loving how the cool breeze was gently blowing against his long and brunette hair. Adoring the mellow sound of little fairies chirping and humming to a beautiful melody while they danced gracefully under the bizarre tree, flipping their glittery wings gallantly. The boy appreciated everything that he was witnessing, in that realm.

It was not long until another boy stepped into the picture frame, obstructing his view of the beautiful starry sky. A long pout cropped up on his face as he sulkily glared at the beautiful face in front of him. He stared into those pair of shimmering golden orbs that were staring into his brown ones, his dangling hair was hued with crimson red under the moon rays, charmingly swaying around his pointy face as he bent down looking at him. And the boy below couldn't help but think, that there was no beauty that could compare with this creature in front of him. Not even the glowing little fairies.

“Yah, Hyukjae. Get out of my sight. You’re blocking my view.” Said the boy under the creature, his lips pursing into an adorable bout, his eyes still couldn't leave the beautiful feature.

“Yah. Is that how you greet your master? Where’s my kiss?” Muttered the creature sulking as he casually tucked in his hair into the back of his ears. The boy only giggled at the demand of his master.

“Unfortunately, there will be no kiss for you today, Sire.” He mumbled. His tone was that of a playful one, before he gently the stranded hair of the beautiful creature. And Hyukjae only pouted at the answer.

“Why not?” He asked staring into the eyes of the other, and the latter could only giggled again soon after, amused by the childishness of the big boy in front of him.

“Because your father had granted me a day off, if you haven’t forgotten, Hyukjae.” He answered him anyway.

“That has nothing to do with getting a kiss, no?” He retorted.

“Yes, it does. For a kiss is only for its master, isn’t it?” But Hyukjae wasn’t satisfied with the answer.

“Then, am I not your master?” He asked again, a light frown shaded his face. An adorable smile then crept on the boy’s face soon after the frown fell into his view.

“Not as of today, Hyukjae. Today, you are just a friend to me.” And with that answer, Hyukjae let out a subtle sigh. Why is he being so stubborn nowadays?

“Fine, can’t your friend here at least get a peck on his cheek?” His golden orbs blinked a few times, a shimmer of dusted gold sparkled around the corner of his eyes.

“Please, Donghae, please?” He pleaded, eyes staring down at the boy.

“But I thought a peck between friends is forbidden?” Argued the other, his face was adorned with a look of confusion.

“What? Who said so?” Startled, Hyukjae barked back, a slight crease cropped up on his forehead. And Donghae returned his strange look with a raise of an eyebrow.

You said so.” He emphasized his words, staring up strangely at the creature, looking as confused as he was.

“When did I ever say that?! It’s only natural for friends to peck each other. Now peck me.” He argued again before he tapped his index finger on his pale cheek.

“Hurry, peck me here.” He demanded before tapping on it again. Donghae couldn’t suppress his giggle when he saw how hasty the other was being.

“Fine.” He finally agreed as he got up from the ground. Hyukjae quickly moved his face away from Donghae’s as to allow him some space to move about.

But Donghae only sat still on the carpeted ground, his eyes entrancedly gazing upon the golden orbs of the other, before his hand reached out for his crimson hair. His fingers then tousled around with his hair before he caressed the side of his head tenderly, being so careful and cautious about touching the other.

“Hyukjae…” His husky voice rung in the head of the other, and Hyukjae could only hum a response, silently indulging himself with the rare and tender treat from this one special boy.

“Will I ever have the same eyes and the same hair as you?” He asked, eyes now gazing at the black hair hued with beautiful crimson, shimmering exquisitely under the golden rays of the full moon. And his question was only answered with a subtle change of expression from Hyukjae, a tint of bitterness adorning his beautiful face. But he quickly garnered himself into a wide and warm smile before spouting words of convince.

“I’m sure you will. You were only a little bit different from the others, maybe a little late in blooming into a full-grown elf, but you surely will have our eyes, our hair. Someday you will.” He tried to look convincing, but his faltering smile was giving him away. Donghae understood what lies behind that smile, but he never said a word about it, for he knew it was a sensitive matter for both of them.

He tried to pry off the strange thoughts that were brewing within him, by talking about how he wanted to look like once he was fully bloomed, and by imagining how he would finally have his own elfish name once he did. Although a small part of him would constantly remind him of those strange thoughts. A constant question would always cross his mind once in a while – What if I’m not one of them? What if I'm never one of them?

But he decided to ignore those scary thoughts, for now at least.

And so,

Donghae put on a smile on his face. For Hyukjae.

“Hmm. Then, I wanted my hair to glimmer with the moon’s golden glow, or crimson red since gold is such a rare color. What do you think? Do you think I will have it? Do you think our Goddess will grant me my wish?” he asked, feigning a voice of elation as he returned the warm gaze of the other. And Hyukjae beamed his gummy smile at him, happy that the boy was now off from worrying over his strange late maturity.

“Only if you give me my peck.” He said playfully, eyes staring nonchalantly at the moon while his finger tapped on his cheek for a few times. Donghae only stuck out his tongue at the other before his lips protruded into a long pout. His hand that was tousling around with the other’s hair quickly pulled and tugged on them harshly, bringing his face closer to his.

“Ouch!” Hyukjae immediately groaned in pain as he felt a harsh tug on his head. He was about to scold the other when ---

Donghae pecked on his cheek, quick.

And soon after, with a widened eye, he saw Donghae clumsily running away into the woods, disappearing beneath the dark shadow, leaving the startled him behind.

It was only a brief kiss, but he could feel his face hopelessly burning up a rosy shade as blood hastily made their way beneath his pale skin.

“Damn, that was cute.” He muttered lowly under his breath, his hand quietly cupping the kissed cheek, feeling his skin warming up against his cold palm.

“And I’m in love, with a cutie.”

It was another night for him when he had woken up, for the elf realm has no day. For their day, is their night. For a moon was all they had to bask the darkness of their realm. A sun was so foreign to them, although they knew of its existence. But they had never wish to see one, for they knew they had to cross the harsh border to reach for the other side, to be able to see how bright the rays of a sun was.

Donghae woke up from his bed of flowers, a wide grin tugging on his lips as he thought, the night is finally here!

It was an important night for him, and for the child elves. For it was the night where the moon was crescent and cloaked with marmalade hue, and it was a sacred night for the elves. For it was the night where all child elves were gifted with their feature golden orbs, and their black hair glistened with their chosen colors. And Donghae was excited, thinking that the night was probably his night, the night where he would finally be given a name of an elf, the night where he would finally bloom into a full-grown elf. Finally.

He quickly moved out of his bed before he put on their tribe’s outfit and rushed out of his small hut, heading for the open field where the ritual would be held. Soon, he saw how most children were already scattering around the field, their faces tinged with worries and anxiety for they wonder if that night would be their turns. And on the stage, there he saw Hyukjae standing beside the tribe’s leader, both looking so honorable with their black outfits. Donghae smiled upon seeing them, for they were his masters, his guardian, and his foster family. Hyukjae returned his smile as soon as he saw him, but his face looked a bit worried as he did.

Donghae didn’t have to wait for the ritual to start, for when suddenly the wind was gently blowing against them, and the little fairies were dancing again, and the perching birds were chirping a beautiful melody. Donghae’s pulse started to race, his heart pounding heavily as anxiety slowly crawled into his mind.

And as the little fairies started to gather closer, petals and leaves swaying along them gracefully, birds chirping a little more intensely, a glimmer of marmalade glow shined from within the swirling little fairies and soon, a beautiful lady, dressed in a beautiful peach gown finally appeared out of the glow, her wings were so wide and sparkling that it blinded the eyes of many. Her marmalade eyes were gazing tenderly at each child, and whenever she gave a subtle nod in front of any of them, the little fairies would hover around the child, swirling along a sweet melody, sprinkling dust of golden and marmalade sparkles on their head. And after a few magical moments, the child’s eyes were sparkled in gold and their hair was hued with colors, some hued in blue, some in green, some in yellow, and one… in gold…

But the gold wasn’t his… Not his eyes, not his hair. None of him was of an elf. He looked at the beautiful goddess, his eyes were hinted with a sign of plea, pleading for her to grant him the feature of an elf, but she only beamed him a weak smile, before she disappeared back into the thin air, leaving only the little fairies hovering around him. The fairies’ little hands were caressing his cheek, as though they understood what he was feeling. As though they could feel the sorrow in his heart.

And a tear silently broke out of his eyes, warmly sliding down his cheek. And there was only one thought tha crossed his head at that moment. It wasn’t his night. Will there ever be one for him?

“Donghae!” He then heard Hyukjae called for his name, but he only chewed on his lips harshly before he shook his head, tears streaming down his face as he ran hastily into the wild wood.

“Donghae!” Hyukjae had called again. His voice was hinted with worries. But he ignored him. He didn’t dare to respond to his master’s call, for he knew if he did, he would only hurt the latter. Because his tears were once that made his master fell into a cliff and injured his arm. It was only an injured arm for he was a strong boy, but the thought of losing him to a cliff, and to his tears scared him. He never wanted the other to be hurt, for he was his master, his important friend, and his beloved family.

He only ran into the wild aimlessly, thorns were grazing against his tanned skin and his bare feet were pressing against the scattered rocks on the uneven ground. He never minded the pain on his body, but he only cared for his heart, because he couldn’t stand the pain in his heart anymore. The strange thought kept on clouding his chaotic mind, that one question that kept on replaying in his head over and over and over again.

What if I’m not one of them?

The thought kept on pondering around in his head, his legs kept on running, bringing him to wherever he was, and it was only a slip of leg when he felt himself falling.

Falling, and falling. Just kept on falling endlessly.

Endlessly, into a cliff.

Or a hole, at that.

And so he screamed.

.

.

And screamed.

.

.

And screamed again…

.

.

And again...

.

.

But he was still falling.

.

.

“When the hell will I finally die?”

He floated in the air as he fell; his long hair was hovering around because of the constant falling, darkness was already cloaking his falling body while his eyes tried to adjust to the sudden darkness. His throat was sore from screaming too much. He kept on screaming while he fell, but the fall was too long, so he decided to just stop from doing so, because his throat hurt. And then he thought, what kind of cliff is this for it to be this long? And he couldn’t help but say the thought in his head,

“How much further should I fall before I plummeted into death?” He said playfully even though he was still in the brink of his own death. He wasn’t as scared as he had been anymore, because it was starting to get comfortable really, with the wind gushing against his face, and feeling his body like he was flying, he felt free. And cold, if he could add.

“Aish. I didn’t know falling could be this boring.” He added another comment when he brought his arms against his chest, his legs crossing into a floating Indian seat.

But it wasn’t that long when he finally saw a glimmer of bright yellow light coming from his below. His eyes narrowed at the light, because it was too bright when contrasted against the complete darkness of the cliff.

As the light was getting closer, he knew his end was coming and he sighed deeply at it.

“It’s my end. My end is coming, and I still haven’t gotten my hair golden yet.”

Really, from so many things he could have brood over at his last moment, his golden hair was what he was thinking of? What an ungrateful little boy he was.

“I’m sorry, Hyukjae. I will die peacefully.” He then said for he saw how the light was getting awfully closer towards him. His heartbeat was speeding rapidly, his pulse pounding and his chest heaving heavily. The death god was coming for him. The blinding light and the death god were coming for him. And he’s dying… He’s finally dying…

Oh my god I’m dying!’

But he didn’t have the time to grieve over it when suddenly, he felt cold air creeping out in him, a sudden blinding ray hitting his eyes, before he felt his body plummeted into the hard ground, and he knew it would be the death of him ----

Oh wait, it wasn’t the hard ground. It was something rather cold, and liquid-like, and cold that had received his plummeting body. And just when he had fallen into whatever it was, he heard a loud splashing sound reverberating alongside with his fall, he felt his body stinging like a bee, a numb tingling feeling spreading all over him.

“Huh?” Was all the sound he could make, when all he felt was his clothes soaking, and his body feeling nothing of pain, but numbed by the coldness of water.

“Wait, water?” He then abruptly opened his eyes and he was utterly surprised to see that he was in the water!

And he’s not dead but in water! Oh how happy he was to know that he wasn’t dying from that boring fall. He could’ve prayed for a more interesting death than just a simple and plain fall. Long, if he should add.

After the thought of not dying finally sinking in his head, he then took a bit of his time to look around him, and his eyes widened in amaze, or shock to put it in a simpler way. The water around him was light blue, and beyond the clear water was what he saw a few long lines, comprising of multiple yellow, large and rectangle-shaped dots.

“What a strange lake.” He mumbled under his breath as he swirled his body around the pool of water, his eyes hovering around the large place, not noticing how a few pairs of eyes were staring at him strangely.

He then swam his way out of the ‘lake’, passing by a few people along the way, and this time, he didn’t fail to notice how a few girls were throwing him a strange look. He sneaked a few glances at the girls, and his nose scrunched up when he saw how revealed they were beneath the clear water.

“Where the hell are your clothes? Aren’t you feeling a bit too shameful for revealing too much of your jewels?” He said them out loud, which only earned him an angry scowl from the girls.

“Uh, hello? It’s only normal to wear a bikini in a swimming pool.” One of them jabbed a response, glaring at him annoyed. And Donghae only bad them a look of strange and confused as he heard the new words.

‘Bikini? Swim fool?’

“And ewww, who in this world still call s as jewels?” Another one of them had said as she stared at Donghae, her face shaded with oddness and absurd look. The rest of the girls then soon mimicked her as they too, stared and observed the boy up and down. Although hazily hidden beneath the clear water, they could still see how strange Donghae’s outfit was, for it was nothing like what their era would have invented. I mean, who would invent something as exotic like leather outfit, designated with tribal patterns and colorful colors? No one in his or her correct state of mind would. Right?

“Uh, what are you? Indigenous people?” They commented before they swiftly moved and swam away from their spots to the other side of the pool, not intending to involve themselves more with that weird boy.

Donghae only arched his eyebrows to the center, tilting his head to the side as he just gazed at the girls from where he was, before he too, started to move away by swimming towards the banks of the swim fool, as what the girls had called it as. He was pretty certain that it was a lake, but he thought, it wouldn’t hurt to call whatever the pool of water was as whatever they had called it. After all, it had a nice ring to it, isn’t it? Hmm, swim fool, why does it feel like saying a swimmer is a fool?

Once he reached for the strange banks, he slowly touched the shiny and tiled ground, sliding his fingers against them as he felt the texture of the surface, his face tinted with another look of oddity.

“Why do these banks looked so aberrant and crooked? And there is no grass on them. Not even soil. Which weird tribe did I fall myself into?” He muttered to himself, a slight crease cropped up on his face. But he only shrugged the thought off before he silently plummeted his arms onto those tiled ground, pulling himself up from the deep water, but unfortunately, his soaked outfits were weighing him down, and it didn’t help how the bank was a bit too high for him to pull off the necessary strength to bring his body out of the water. He tried to lift his body up again, and again and again, but he still failed, which garnered a pity look from a little boy that was floating about around him, on his Doraemon floater.

“Ahjussi…” The boy called, his eyes blinking blankly at the uncle whom was trying so much to get out of the water, but hopelessly failed countless of times. Donghae then turned his head to the boy, his breathing a little disheveled as he looked at the kid in his floater, his hand was pointing something like a weapon, which was actually just a colorful water pistol.

“Yes, little boy. I’m sorry but Ahjussi is a little busy right now. Can we play warrior later?” He responded kindly, still busying himself trying to climb out of the swim fool. But the kid only shook his head slightly.

“Ahjussi…” He called again, which Donghae kindly turned his head again to focus at him.

“You know you can just use the ladder to climb up the pool.” He explained before he pointed his finger at a small flight of ladders at the corner of the swimming pool. Donghae narrowed his eyes at the pointed direction, and there he saw two silver and steeled handrails were attached to the banks. After a few seconds of keenly observing the foreign object, he looked at the boy again with a confused look.

“What’s a ladder?” And the small boy only frowned in surprise, looking at the elder with a conflicted look.

“That.” He still answered anyway, before pointing his finger at the flight of ladders again.

“What does it used for?” A few seconds of silence and he inadvertently asked the little boy again, which of course freaked the smaller kid out, because an adult, okay a teenage, just asked him what’s a ladder was used for…

“To get out of the pool.” But the kind boy decided to just play along. ‘Maybe this uncle hit his head just now, so he forgets things.’ He thought to himself, a slight pity bubbling out in his chest as he looked at the disheveled teenage.

Donghae only bobbed his head up and down, still giving him a subtle nod even though he did not really get what the boy was trying to tell him. He then slowly swam towards the said ladder, with the sympathizing boy following from behind. Once they finally reached the ladder, Donghae couldn’t help but helplessly stare at the attached handrails in front of him before he scratched his non-itchy head, trying to figure out what he should do with it. He looked at the kid with a questioning look, which the kid only replied with a gesture of hand movements, urging him to climb up. But he could only grinned awkwardly in response.

“Uhh, how – how do I… use this thing called ladder?” He asked, still blankly scratching his head. The boy looked at him with a strange expression, but being a well-mannered boy, he still politely answered the uncle.

“You climb on it.” Donghae nodded his head. He then raised both of his arms and gripped on the steeled handrails before placing his right leg on one of the rung in the water.

“Like this?” He asked eyeing the boy, confirming if he did it right.

The boy only nodded a few times before urging the uncle to continue climbing up. And so, he continued on until he ultimately reached the bank and finally out of the water.

“So this is how you used this ladder! What an amazing creation! This definitely needs to be introduced to our tribe to help the ladies get their everyday water. Thank you little boy!” He spoke in sheer amazement before he gratefully thanked the little boy for helping and introducing that foreign object to him. The boy only smiled awkwardly in return.

“Ah-- Ahjussi… Are you sure you’re okay? You didn’t hit your head anywhere right?” Concerned, the boy then asked Donghae, gazing up at him from the water.

“Hm? Of course I’m okay. Why would I hit my head?” Donghae returned his concerned stare with a warm smile. The boy then nibbled on his lower lips before he pointed his finger again to the middle of the pool.

“Because ahjussi, you just fall into the water there out of nowhere.” He answered. Donghae traced his view at the pointed direction. He then looked above the area, from where he assumed he had fallen from, expecting a dark sky or at least a large dark hole to bore up there, but there was none of those sorts, because he only saw a completely closed and high ceiling sheltering them, not even a small dent could be seen from his stand. He found it strange because he was certain that he had fallen from a dark hole, but he just ignored the thought before he focused back on the boy, a genuine smile tugging on his thin lips.

“Are you worried for Ahjussi? Omoo, what a nice boy you are. Now here, a little token for a good boy. Grow up into a handsome elf okay?” He exclaimed, ruffling the boy’s wet hair fondly before he shoved his hand into his pocket and gave him a little sapphire gemstone, glimmering prettily under the bright light. Soon after, he left the boy, walking out for an exit, drops of water dripping behind with every step he took. The little boy clenched the gemstone before he pushed himself towards a lady at the opposite side of the pool.

“Umma~” He called happily. The lady turned around upon the call.

“Junsoo-yah, where have you been? Didn’t I tell you not to go too far from me?” His mother scolded him. But Junsoo just grinned cutely at her, softening the heart of an angry mother.

“I’m sorry, Umma!” He apologized, which earned him a warm smile from his mother.

“Oh, Umma! Just now an uncle asked me to be a handsome elf when I grow up and then he gave me this stone~” He said merrily before he flashed the beautiful stone in front of his mother. Her eyes immediately bulged out after being told that by her son; a slight scowl was visible on her face.

“Junsoo-yah, didn’t Umma always tell you not to talk with strangers? What if he kidnapped you?” She scolded her again, making the boy pursed into a long pout, but her anger didn’t last long when she saw the stone in her son’s hand. She quickly snatched the stone from her son, a satisfied grin gradually forming on her face.

“Oh, wow, Junsoo-yah, this is a pretty gemstone! It must be expensive! Why don’t we trade this at a store and we’ll buy you some toys, and I can buy myself a few handbags, and shoes and clothes and---”

With water dripping and trailing his steps, he walked away from the swim fool, trying to find an exit. As he wandered aimlessly around the large building, his eyes couldn’t stop from staring and glancing at everything in sheer amaze. Everything was new and foreign to him. The chairs, the people, the televisions, and even how his eyes were dawned with yellow lights was new to him. He gazed upward to look at the lights, amazed how it beamed its glow on the ground, lighting up the surrounding. He was very interested with this glow, because under its guidance, there was no darkness, and everyone could walk freely without tripping on something.

And just soon after, he saw a door, transparent door at that, just meters ahead of him. His body stiffened at his spot, his jaw dropped in surprise.  He was amazed to see people just walking casually through the door, for it had opened itself without the need of touching or pushing on it.

“Oh my goddess, the door just slid open! What kind of sorcery are they using?” He asked, but more to himself as he only observed more people passing through. And soon, he found himself staring at the people itself. He couldn’t help but mutter so many “Wow!” and “Oh my elves!” every time he saw these people, hair with multiple glint of colors, eyes heavily lined with black and glitters, clothes tightly wrapping their bodies and shoes. They were wearing something on their foot. And as he saw a few girls were wearing high heels, he mumbled with amazed eyes.

“Wow, that was genius! A foot covering with a sharp and pointy stake! That could help them tackle bad people, or catch some fish!”

And of course he failed to realize again, that while he was staring at those people in awe, people were staring at him too, not in awe but much more of a look of strange, a bit curiousity and slight disgust even.

“Umma! Look! That’s the uncle!” A small voice beamed loudly in that wide and open hall, abruptly pulling Donghae out of his amazed thoughts. He snapped his head back, turning his gaze at the swim fool boy whom was hastily and anxiously being dragged out by his mother. Donghae had his eyebrows raised,a smile b on his face, elated because he recognized the small boy and the boy recognized him too. Thinking that the boy was actually hinting him to follow them, he quickly and sheepishly followed the lead of the mother and son couple whom was already out of the building, before finding himself excitedly coming closer to the amazing magic door.

Just when he was about a few feets away from the door, the door then suddenly opened itself again, clearing a path for him to allow him to go out of the building. He just grinned contently while walking pass the opened entrance, delighted and satisfied because the door had opened for him, feeling himself a bit majestic and important for being treated with such a respectable service from the sorcery of that realm. Because usually in the elf realm, it would always be him who opened the door for Hyukjae, his father and his family, for they were his masters, and not the other way round. Which was why he found himself awfully amazed by that new and foreign realm.

Just as soon as he walked out of the building, a brighter glow struck and blinded his brown orbs, his arms protectively hovering in front of his eyes, shielding himself from the bright light. But the glow was different from that was in the building. It was brighter, and yellower, and warmer much to his liking… Slowly then, he peeked through his narrowed eyes, expanding his fingers to allow some space for him to look at that beautiful glow, and his jaw dropped again, eyes bulging out in awe as he retreated his arms back to his side.

“It’s a sun.” The words escaped his opened mouth; his eyes wouldn’t leave the large and yellow round moon, his throat swallowing down his saliva thickly as he walked another few steps outward.

It was his first time seeing a sun up close, and the sun was so beautiful in his eyes, the yellow glow was different than that of the golden rays of their moon. The warm rays were beaming on everywhere, on him even, gradually drying his soaked outfit under their heat. The sun was so large compared to their moon, floating up in the blue and clear sky, surrounded by pure clouds, as it basked its beautiful rays all around the realm, illuminating every nook and crook of the strange place. He was very enchanted with the view; very fascinated with its beauty that he unknowingly had walked a few steps forward, attempting to get closer to the sun that raised in the blue sky, unaware that he was standing blankly... on a busy road.

HONKKKKKKKKK!!!

A loud noise beamed into his ears, pulling him back from his captivation. His shoulders jerked up in shock, his eyes bulged out widely when he saw a fast and approaching car was speeding rapidly towards him. His eyes then immediately closed tightly as he awaited for the object to crash his body, for his body to ultimately grow with pain but---

SCREECHHHHHH!!!

The car managed to pull on an emergency brake. The car had stopped just a few inches from Donghae who was deeply rooted to the ground, his body completely numbed in fear, fear of getting hit to his death. His head wondered at his last moment if that was how he was going to die, a few thanks suddenly popping out in his mind, as he thought ‘Ahh, I could finally die an interesting death. Being crashed by a rhinoceros would surely be a legend among the elves.’ Oh wait, a rhinoceros?

It was soon after when a man had jumped out of the car, his face obviously plastered with worries and concern as he rushed for the stiffened boy.

“Are you okay?” He asked worriedly, his hand rubbing all over Donghae’s body, as though he was making sure that the teenage boy wasn’t hurt. But when he noticed that the teenager wasn’t responding to him, worried, he quickly cupped his face in his palms, staring intensely into his finally opened and widened eyes.

“Hello? Are you okay? Can you speak?” He asked again. Donghae only blinked his eyes rapidly. He was startled to see a man’s face to hover so close to his, a rosy shade quickly creeping up on his face as he felt his face burning up with the sudden closeness. As realization finally hit him, his numbed legs finally gave him away as he suddenly and weakly, plopped down on the ground, the man’s arms immediately wrapping around his waist as he held his body from falling down harshly, his body collapsing along with him as both plummeted onto the ground.

Seeing how the teenage boy had slumped down weakly, the man was feeling even more worried than he already was. His fingers lightly patted Donghae’s cheek.

“Hey, are you okay? Talk to me. Tell me if you’re in pain.” His face was hinted with absolute worries. People were starting to gather around them, whispers and curious glances were thrown at them as they swarmed. Still startled with everything that was happening, he only managed to squeeze stuttering answers.

“Y- yeah, I’m, I’m okay, Sire. I can speak.” He said, stuttering. The man sighed in relief once he heard him answering, but a slight frown cropped up on his face.

Sire? Who in this world still use sire other than the army and the police?’ He then took a look at the boy in his arms. His clothes were strange and bizarre, not to mention absurd, he was bare-footed, and his face, the man couldn’t see it clearly for it was hidden behind his long, brunette and messy hair, but he was certain from his appearance that this boy was not even close to a police cadet. He was too… exotic for a human being…

“Are you sure you’re okay?” He asked again, just to make sure he was fine, because he certainly didn’t want to be involved into a messier situation if ever the boy had suddenly decided to sue him for nearly getting him dead. The latter then only nodded his head hesitantly; his eyes were intensely staring and blinking at the car behind the man. And it was then when another head had popped out of the car, shouting at him,

“Kyu! Is he okay? We have to go now! We don’t have much time left!” He yelled, pressing on the pedal wildly before the engine started to growl loudly, telling him that they were getting really really late.

“Ahhhhh!!!” Donghae screamed in fear, his body curling into the man’s arm as he hid his face behind the other’s broad chest, his hand clenching his shirt tightly. He was trembling. The sudden clinging left the man appalled, his hands were hovering aimlessly around the boy’s waist, uncertain if he should hugged the latter back for a comfort, or just attempt a soft caress. But soon, he already found himself giving him a comforting pat on his back.

When the growling engine finally quieted down, Donghae then sneaked a short peek at the car again.

“That scared me. Why did the rhinoceros suddenly growl at me so fiercely like that?” He asked, fingers still clenching tightly on the hem of the man’s shirt. And the latter frowned.

“A rhinoceros?” He repeated, flabbergasted. Donghae nodded his head before a deep crease formed on his face.

“And why doesn’t it stop growling? Is it sick?” He asked, worries and concern started to crawl in. And the man shook his head, a look of confused hinted on his face.

“What is sick? My car?” he asked anyway.

“Oh, so you called your rhinoceros Car?”

“Well, yeah?”

“You have to bring your Car to a healer! I think it’s sick!” He yelped worriedly, tugging on his shirt slightly.

“A healer...? What’s a healer--- No no no, that’s not the point. My car isn’t sick. It’s you. You, are you sure you’re okay? You’ve been spouting non-sense since a while ago. Did you hit your head? Want me to bring you to a hospital?” The man asked worriedly, his eyes staring intently at the face that he was being so curious to see.

“Ugh, why do everyone keep on asking me that?! I didn’t hit my head! But your rhinoceros, it’s sick! It needed to be treated immediately!” He yelled, feeling irked because everyone just kept on saying how he might have hit his head. His head was perfectly fine! It’s not him who needed to be treated, but the rhinoceros! Why couldn’t they understand that?!

Feeling deeply frustrated with the situation and stuffy with his unkempt hair, he hastily scooped the stranded hairs that were hovering in front of his face and gathered them back behind his ears, finally revealing his face to the man who had been trying to peek through his disheveled hair. And as soon as his face fell into the other’s view, his eyes widened in utter surprise and shock, his mouth left agaped.

Donghae then narrowed his eyes at the gasping man, his forehead frowning strangely at him.

“Oh my goodness. What? Are you suddenly mute now? I said, we need to bring your rhinoceros to--- ahhhhhh!!” He screamed loudly again.  A few loud honks were pressed at them for obstructing the road. His body flinched into another frightened curl as his eyes bulged out in shock when he saw more different rhinoceros were gathering around him, one of them was white, the other one was blue and another one was bright red. Donghae couldn’t believe his sight, gasping loudly every time he caught sight of those beautiful creatures. Such a rare creature in their realm, but here they were, countless of them gathering in front of him, even coming in full package with beautiful colors instead of just deep grey.

“Oh my goddess of elves! Why do you have so many different and colorful rhinoceros?! And all of them are sick too! They kept on growling in pain! Quick, we need to attend to them and treat them! They’re in pain!” He cried, panic sweats were slowly forming on his forehead as he hastily shook the man’s body while his eyes glanced worriedly at those sick cars.

And with that shake, the man snapped back into reality. A tear was pooling at the brim of his eyes.

“Dong… Donghae?”
