Crafting a strong character voice || Part 5

Link to exercise: Crafting a strong character voice || Part 5

HASHTAG EXTREMELY PROUD because I finally figured out how to add links to words! (。´∀`)ノ

And the thing is it took me 20 excruciating minutes, which is fairly reasonable considering I usually take an hour to adjust to new technological stuff. I really don't like dragging people into my mess or troubling others with stuff like this so I didn't ask anyone (except my sis because she's a tech genius BUT SHE DIDN'T KNOW) so I took it upon myself to figure things out, even though I'm sure my sis is the more tech-savvy sibling. Not saying I'm not tech-savvy or anything, I just take a longer time than her to figure things out but I figure out tech stuff faster than most of my classmates, I swear! People always underestimate me and they claim they know how to fix their computer problems but I always get frustrated of watching them so I do it for them instead. This kinda makes me a hypocrite because I don't like it when people help me, I like to figure things out for myself (most of the time) probably because I'm too prideful to accept help haha but okay, anyways, back to the main point. *insert embarrassed emoji*

I'm actually very tired even though it's early right now and my eyes hurt but I'm doing this because I've really been wanting to for a long time! Pardon me if this is one badly written piece of idk what you call it (drabble/inspiration), I'm hoping that if I do this exercise again and again I can improve myself each time.

Based on this picture, I'll write a first paragraph of me describing this picture, followed by a few paragraphs of my other characters describing this picture. So bascially, one picture and about like 10 different descriptions which have a few similarities in them.

Golden dark sand, damp where the edges of the foamy white waves and sand meet.

The sea a crystallized blue, so clear that I could see the starfishes lazing on the ground.

Tiny orange fishes swimming contentedly, going around in circles. I envied their carefree and mindless actions.

I could briefly see the silhouette of seagulls in the far distance against the gorgeous sapphire sky, squawking

as they swooped in close to the building waves, growing higher and higher, until, splash! The waves reached the

shore, and the seagulls were long gone. The damp sand grew uncomfortable in between my toes, but I didn't mind.

So rare a chance I could find myself here, I had to appreciate and absorb each and every single moment. I had to.

And even though I was here, the thought of all the piled-up work on my white desk was still ever-present in my brain,

gnawing away at my nerves. I once loved my job, a long long time ago. Now, it was nothing but a burden. I couldn't

get away from the stress at all. I couldn't take my mind off of the ominous brown cave behind me.

It was beckoning to me, calling out my name. I had to resist the urge to go closer, lest I give in to temptation

and lose myself in the damp darkness forever. All of a sudden, I saw it. In the very depths of my mind, I remembered.

His face as we went inside the cave, a mix between fear and pride. He had no choice but to put up a front for my sake.

Even though I couldn't see his face anymore once we were enveloped by the darkness, I could still feel his hand

in mine, quivering.

And then I spun around, and walked away.

Hurrrrrr I want to write Yixing really badly (because I'm a bit stuck on his story for the College Beverage!AU) and I just, idk. I really want to write really badly even though I have no inspiration so I apologise if everything sounds crappy. Because it actually is.

(Yixing-get-away-from-me-omg feat overly obsessed/happy Sehun touching his precious baby Xing)

Yixing breathed in the salty beach air, letting out a happy sigh when he settled down on the

wet golden yellow sand. He had rolled up the legs of his trousers, but they ended up wet anyway.

Never mind, he'd just have to deal with damp pants on the bus ride home, and a lecture from Sehun afterward.

Yixing wished he hadn't forgotten his phone on his desk so that he could snap a picture for Sehun to admire

even after Sehun wrote countless pink post-it notes to remind him

and ended up sticking them everywhere - even on the inside of Yixing's favorite white button-up that he wore to work -,

yet Yixing still forgot and left his work in a hurry when he was about to knock off and saw the familiar bright

yellow bus across the building about to leave, eventually forgetting about his phone.

Well, he wasn't really concerned that his phone would get stolen, and if it did, whoever it was would

return it promptly 10 minutes after Yixing's shift ended from all the messages Sehun would send him.

In fact, he could just imagine the 'where are u?', 'is the beach fun', 'did u bring an umbrella'

and evitably "u forgot the damn phone again didn't u" when Sehun realises Yixing's not going to reply

until two days later, with Yixing claiming, "I don't have this amnesia thing, huh- wait, what were

we talking about again? Oh, is that cake for me? I love you too Sehun." as always.

Yixing snapped out of his daydream when he heard a loud and high-pitched annoying squawk too close to his ear

for comfort, before his hair ruffled from the wind of the seagull dashing away from him,

his favorite brown hat in it's beak. Yixing only watched sadly as the bird's sillhouette became tinier and tinier,

until it became a dot in the distance. Pity, he really liked that hat.

But still, Yixing wished he had some bird feed on him. Maybe if he had offered some to the seagull,

it wouldn't have snatched his hat up. Yixing gets up when he realises the sky started glowing orange,

the distant horizon where the sun rested a beautiful red and yellow. He turned around to stare at the

mouth of the dark cave, and briefly he thought he saw a shadow moving quick as lightning away

out of Yixing's sight. The salty air around him became colder all of a sudden and Yixing shuddered,

his feet taking him to the nearest bus stop, but not before he threw the cave one last glance.

He could've sworn he saw a person peeking out from the cave, and winking when he caught

Yixing staring back at him.

My excuse for that (^) is that I ship KaiXing and ing. Kaixing sounds like 开心 which is really adorable (to me hehe btw I think the hanyu pinyin is supposed to be kaixin but idk because my chinese is so bad) so yeah, that was Kai winking at Yixing at the end. I don't even know how I wrote that, I just did, and now I feel like continuing and making that thing into an oneshot. ingKai anyone? Haha kidding, I'm still stuck on Yixing's story and I've yet to write Luhan's, I can't take up any more stories because school is starting in like 4 days, but pfft when has that stopped me? 〜( ̄▽ ̄〜)

And now for Sehun's. (feat Sehun-looking-so-damn-fiiiiiiine-dayum-son)

-

Sehun shifted uncomfortably for what seemed like the tenth time that day as

he glared at the blue ocean in front of him. The stupid wet sand ruined

the pair of blue sneakers Yixing had bought for him last Christmas, and looking

at the muddy and dirty state of the shoes now, he knew Yixing would kill him

when he got home, and afterwards apologise and offer to cook Sehun's favorite

aglio pasta and set the kitchen on fire. Again. He glanced at the obnoxious gang of

stupid seagulls to his right, squawking noisily as if to fuel his rage further and he

could almost swear one of the seagulls were laughing at his pain and agony.

Hmmph. Sehun of course, didn't back down from the challenge the ocean seemed

to be throwing at him, and he got up swiftly with his infamous smirk that Tao

often whined at to wipe off his face before he did it for him,

and he kicked the sand at the pack of seagulls. Of course, the seagulls squawked indignantly

before even a speck of sand could hit them, and flew away. Yixing would be

absolutely upset if he were here and demand for Sehun to apologise to them,

but Yixing wasn't here, and Sehun got away with his playfulness yet again.

All of a sudden, Sehun was all too aware that he was way too close to the sea before

he heard the famillar roar of waves building up higher and higher in front of him,

and sure enough, he was absolutely drenched from head to toe a mintue later.

Sehun vaguely thought he heard a soft snicker, but brushed the feeling off

and thought it was just the water in his ears. He huffed in annoyance as

he took a few steps back, back to the safety of the unconfortable wet sand, shivering

as a gust of chilling winter air hit him. Teeth chattering, he gazed at the cave in resignance,

before taking a few steps closer to the mouth of the dark, dark, dark cave. He didn't know

why, but something seemed to pull him towards it. Maybe it was his mischievous side

getting the better of him, or he just wanted to feel warm, dry earth underneath his bare feet

instead of the damp and cold sand, but nonetheless he stepped inside the cave

and gasped when he saw what was right in front of his very eyes.

And then he slipped and fell.

I seem to be doing this exercise wrongly... I'm writing different scenarios instead of working on character voice hehe oops. (。´∀`)ノ

I didn't intend to scare anyone with that end lol I'm sorry if anyone gets scared! The end is actually Sehun slipping because he assumed the ground was gonna be dry but hell no it was wet and slippery (kind of like moss) and since I ship SeKai (as brothers instead of lovers but either works for me), what he saw was actually Kai grinning at him and like a bunch of random funiture in the cave and when Kai was gonna say 'hi wut u doin bruh btw i saw you kick sand at those seagulls hehe lol we cool rite' and then Sehun got shocked because he wasn't expecting anyone there and because it was too dark he thought Kai was a ghost haunting the cave and then he slipped. And fell and became unconcious. I imagine Kai to be snickering and shouting, 'KARMA !' before helping Sehun up. Because that's what brothers are for.

(I'm sorry my imagination just)

Now for Tao. (feat let-out-your-gay-beast-zitao/swagmaster)

Shoes in his left hand, Zitao sighed softly as he walked along the shore,

feeling content at the feeling of the cool dark blue waves splashing gently against

the sides of his foot. The warm brown sand was always so welcoming and inviting

to him, and he loved how his each and every step left an imprint that was soon

washed away by the waves. Gone forever until the next pair of feet walked along the same

shore he was walking on. His eyes were closed as he took in the comforting sounds he knew

all too well, ears familar with the rhythm of the sound of the waves hitting the shore.

Always the same rhythm, paired along with the distant squawks of seagulls in the far distance.

Music to Zitao's ears. Then, his eyes snapped open when voices started

resonating in his head.

"Why don't you trust me?"

"I'm bent on making your life a living hell, Huang Zitao. I'll make you regret that day."

"Why are you being like this?"

"Too bad, his mine now."

"Stop it!"

"Ah ah ah, but he doesn't know that, does he?"

"The Huang Zitao I fell in love with isn't like this!"

"I'll make you regret."

He let out a hiss of pain and anger as his knees buckled, and he ended up with a

mouth full of sand, his limbs sprawled out. Of course, he quickly got up, but then

hesitated when he was about to resume his walking. It wasn't his fault, right?

He couldn't tell anyone his troubles lest he wanted to risk Xiumin getting injured again.

Kris would never believe him, in fact, Zitao was all too certain he would call him a liar

and rush off afterward to her for comfort. Sehun had enough problems as it

is, goddamnit. And Jongin would just beat everyone up without reason and get in trouble

with the school principal again and get suspended. There was nothing he could do but

watch the ones he loved suffer. But as for himself... Who said he wasn't suffering as well?

He couldn't stop what was happening. He had to watch her get the revenge she wanted

oh-so-badly, but at the cost of everything he wanted to protect so badly.

Zitao looked up to the blue sky with despair in his eyes, and supressed the growing tears.

He opened his mouth, and shouted as he clawed at the pain gnawing at his heart.

"Why is everything falling apart? Didn't you promise me forever?"

The biting wind howled at him, and that was the reply he got.

He turned around and left without a word.

This one was supposed to be sad but it somehow ended up dramatic??? Anyway that's based off of College!Beverage AU oooooo too much drama in that AU I know I just can't stop myself from getting these ideas okay ;-;

Second part is coming up soon, and Jongin's definitely in it! :D

(Btw my laptop went crazy and returned to the previous page while I was editing so I'm sorry if I missed out on any corrections or anything, I always miss things out when I re-edit things for the third time!)
