Sleep With Us

Of Storms and Nightmares

A small toddler waddled his way to the door of his parents bedroom. He had his favorite, worn stuffed puppy under his arm and his right thumb in his mouth as he reached on his tippy toes for the handle. “Uh, mama,” he whined as he stretched his long, skinny limbs. “I want mama.”
After stretching and still not being able to reach, the toddler sat down in front of the door and began sobbing softly. “I don't wanna go back to my room,” he cried in fear of the monsters hidden under his bed.
He had had a horrible nightmare where the monsters with wicked smiles and terrifying eyes had crept up from under his bed and chased him, yet no one was around to save the little boy from his worst fear. It was traumatic for the young child, even more so with the fact that he could not find comfort in his beloved parents; therefore, almost making the dream a reality. He began crying for his mother as he continued to sit in front of the dark door until the wood was pulled back, and an extremely tall male stood in front of him.
“Baba,” he sobbed, small hands reaching for the tall man. There was tear tracks staining his cheeks and a bit of mucus dribbling from his nose in a way that only intense crying can reduce a person to, yet his father could still see the beauty of his youngest child.
The male looked down with sad eyes as his large hands wrapped under the small boy's armpits, hoisting him up into the strong, protective circle of arms. “Shh, baby Sehunnie,” he cooed. “It's okay, baby.”
The father turned around and began closing the door when his lover called out to him; “Yi, leave it open a bit, in case one of the other's need us.” Yifan nodded as he left the door slight ajar before walking back to the other male cuddled in the fluffy blankets.
He sat down next to his hidden man before Sehun noticed his mother. “Mama,” he cried as Yifan set him down on Joonmyeon's chest.
“Aw, baby Hunnie. What happened, sweetie?” Joonmyeon asked in a soft voice, rubbing the small child's back. Yifan continued to sit next to his husband, his own large hand resting on Sehun's long right leg.
    “I had a n-nightmare, and n-no o-one sav-ed me from th-the m-monsters,” he hiccuped.
“Aw, baby, no monsters can get you,” the mother quickly replied, reaching to press a soft kiss against his tear-stained cheeks.
“And remember that no matter what, baba will always be there to protect you,” Yifan added, kissing the top of the brunette child's head.
Sehun nodded before asking his next question hesitantly. “Can I sleep with you?” He knew that his parents didn't really want their children sleeping with them anymore because they were much older now; for example, Sehun, their precious little baby, was now slightly over five.
Yifan sighed slightly and looked at his husband, who was staring at him with large glistening eyes that shined with unshed tears. “Joon,” Yifan said softly.
    “Yi,” Joonmyeon argued, “he's scared.”
“I know, just this once though, okay?” Joonmyeon nodded before pulling back the edge of the blankets, allowing Sehun to crawl under and cuddle up to him. The boy seemingly fell asleep instantly from the comfort his mother had assured him with and the warmth of the elder's body. “Mama's boy,” Yifan teased lightly after he got back under the covers on his side of the bed.
“Shut up,” Joonmyeon grumbled softly, eyes bright as his precious baby curled up against his side. “You know as well as I that if Zitao had sat outside sobbing because of a nightmare and then asked to sleep with us, you'd cave.”
Yifan laughed softly before he smiled brightly. “True,” he replied, “that's very, very true.” Joonmyeon smiled at the answer, knowing that Yifan could never say no to his precious daddy's boy. “Love you,” the deep voice rumbled next to him.
“Love you too,” Joonmyeon replied instantly. The two parents smiled at each other as their eyes began to close from tiredness, but suddenly their door was pushed open again.
“Umma?” a small voice called from Joonmyeon's side of the bed.
“Jonginnie?” Joonmyeon called. “What's wrong, baby?” Sehun had begun to stir as well, turning around to see his slightly elder brother.
“Mama, the storm's scary, can I sleep with you?” the small tanned child questioned tentatively. Joonmyeon instantly noticed the slight scratch in his strong baby's voice and the small tracks that ran down his cheeks and pooled under his chin, yet he hadn't even noticed the massive storm going on outside their cozy home.

He was shocked to see the massive bolts of lightening brightening the sky, and the deep rolls of thunder that were shaking the house slightly. He didn't really enjoy massive thunderstorms anymore, not with children all under the age of ten, who were mostly afraid of them, but years before he would have love to witness a night such as now.
So by analyzing that his baby had been crying, an extremely rare thing for Jongin, he nodded his head, reaching for the boy and allowing him to shuffle under the covers. Jongin cuddled against the same side Sehun was on, moving to wrap around his smaller, younger brother. “Thank you, umma,” he replied softly.
Joonmyeon smiled, mind at ease now that he was distracted by the two youngest. He had been missing his precious babies cuddling with him while he slept recently, but Yifan, on the other hand, had been thoroughly enjoying sleeping cuddled up to his husband, able to start anything without worrying about one of his sons walking in. Joonmyeon glanced at the elder, who was looking dejected at the thought of his two youngest curled up with his husband and seemingly ignoring him.
Joonmyeon giggled at the look on the other's face, throughly enjoying the fact that both youngest were huge mama's boys. “They love me more,” he taunted playfully as he heard soft snores coming from Jongin and Sehun's light breathing.
“Shut it,” Yifan growled grumpily. “At least I have the older boys,” he flanted in the other's face, causing Joonmyeon to pout from the truth of that statement.
Both Minseok and Luhan were Yifan's little angels, but not nearly as spoiled as Zitao. Luhan could simple bat his big doe eyes up at Yifan, and the man would instantly buy him anything he wanted. On the other hand, Minseok would just have to give his husband a hug and a smile, and the elder would have the world sitting at his small feet.
Even his little Yixing was more of a daddy's boy than a mama's boy. He was always asking for Yifan to take him places or hold him, and since Yixing had a few health problems, Yifan always gave him whatever he asked for. “He's sick, Myeonnie. He should get what he wants, I mean the other's can pick on him sometimes, so someone should play with him,” his husband would always say. Joonmyeon would sigh and shake his head, allowing Yifan to spoil the slightly sick child anyways.
What really killed him was how the triplets all seemed to favor their father, except Chanyeol, who seemed to want Joonmyeon just a bit more. Baekhyun and Jongdae were always hanging off of Yifan's long arms or legs, begging for new toys and for playtime with him, to which he always was willing to give. Chanyeol, on the other hand, would always come up to Joonmyeon, wrapping his freakish long arms (something he definitely got from Yifan because Joonmyeon was not tall like his husband) around his mother's waist, asking in a deep yet absolutely adorable voice for a new toy or some one-on-one time with his mother.
“At least I have Kyungsoo and the babies,” Joonmyeon replied, “and Chanyeol.”
Yifan laughed, “That still means I have the twins, Xing, two of the three triplets, and Taozi.” Joonmyeon pouting, counting how Yifan had six daddy's boys, yet he only had four mama's boys. “Too cute,” Yifan smirked, gently flicking the tip of his index finger against the younger's adorable button nose as he scowled in thought.
“Whatever,” Joonmyeon grumbled, turning over to cuddle with his babies, but he noticed a small figure standing in their doorway as well. “Kyungie,” he called to the small, delicate boy. “Are you okay, sweetie?” The small boy shook his head, large owl eyes glistening with tears as he walked quickly over to his mother.
Joonmyeon instantly pulled back the blankets before he brought the delicate child into his safe arms. “Another nightmare, baby?” Kyungsoo nodded his head as he buried his face in Joonmyeon's neck.
“Must be a full moon tonight,” Yifan whispered as he observed his husband rubbing the small boy's back in a soothing manner. “Everyone's being plagued with nightmares, and there's a massive storm going on, so something must be effecting everything.”
“Must be,” he whispered back after he noticed Kyungsoo finally fell asleep against his neck; now he had Sehun on his left shoulder with Jongin wrapped around him, and Kyungsoo asleep on his chest, face buried in his neck. “Go get the others.”
“What?” Yifan asked bewildered. “What if they're actually sleeping?”
“Then carry them in,” Joonmyeon demanded. “I'm sure most of them are afraid and awake thanks to the storm. You know they all hate them.” Yifan nodded in response, mind troubled at the thought of his children lying awake in fear of the natural mess going on outside of their walls. “Please, Yi. You know that ever since we tried telling the boys they couldn't come sleep with us, they've tried to be more independent. I'm sure they need us tonight,” he added softly.
“Okay, Myeonnie. I'll go get them,” Yifan replied, reaching over to press a kiss against his husband's forehead. “Besides, it's been so long since all the boys have slept with us.” He smiled, secretly, glad that his babies were going to sleep with them again after so long because he too had been missing his babies cuddling into them at night. Joonmyeon smiled back as he watched his husband get up and move towards the door.

Yifan went to his oldest sons first. He pushed open the door to see Luhan curled into Minseok, sobbing into his twin's neck, and Minseok desperately trying to calm him. “Shh, Lu. The storm will pass soon. Shh,” cooed the slightly older boy.
    “Minseok. Luhan,” Yifan called.
Both boys looked up at the sound of their father calling him. “Daddy!” Luhan sobbed, launching out of bed and into Yifan's awaiting arms.
“Shh, Luhannie. Don't worry, baby.” Minseok stood as well, walking over and latching onto Yifan's other side. “Minseok, take Luhan to your mother and mine's room. We want you to sleep with us tonight, okay?” Minseok nodded before pulling Luhan away and turning towards the door.
Yifan quickly took Luhan's face into his hands though, pressing a few kisses to the boy's forehead and temple. “I'll be in there to cuddle with you in a few minutes after I get your brothers, okay?” Luhan nodded, standing on his tippy toes to press a quick kiss against his father's lips.
“I love you, baba,” he mumbled.
“I love you too, lu baobao," he smiled brightly. "I love you too, my little baozi,” he directed to his other son.
“Love you, appa,” Minseok smiled before he took his brother into his arms and moved towards their parents' bedroom.
Yifan continued to smile as he moved to the triplets room, but it was quickly replaced with a worried look upon seeing the boys. After quietly pulling open the door, he noticed the elder two children on either side of the youngest. “Shh, Channie, it's okay,” Baekhyun cooed to the tallest.
“Yeah, Yeollie, it's alright,” Jongdae mumbled, softly rubbing Chanyeol's right shoulder.
“I-I-I want mama and baba,” the youngest sobbed.
“Chanyeol,” Yifan called, causing all three boys to whip their heads in his direction. “Come here, my little giant.” Chanyeol instantly jumped out of the circle his elder brothers had made around him and sprinted into Yifan's open and awaiting arms much like Luhan had a moment ago.
“Baba,” sobbed the tall child. “C-can I sleep with y-you?” Yifan pulled his son closer to his chest as he felt his shoulder getting soaked and gestured for the other two to come over.
“Yes, agi geoin, you can sleep with us,” Yifan answered, moving his head to press kisses against the boy's unruly curls. Chanyeol pulled away and smiled through his tears before he moved back to cuddle against his father again. “My little bacon and orange,” Yifan called to his other two sons, “can you take your little brother to your mother and mine's room?”
Both of the small boys nodded before moving closer Chanyeol, who moved closer to his father instead. “No,” he whined, “Baba, can I stay with you? I don't wanna leave.”
Yifan sighed before nodding, standing up with the tall boy curled into his neck. “Why don't you two head off to mama, okay?”
Baekhyun and Jongdae glanced at each other, and that’s when the father noticed the slight shaking of his elder boy. “Baba, can we stay with you too?” Baekhyun asked, big watery eyes looking up through his bangs.
“Please, baba?” Jongdae added, small hands moving to curl into the thin material of his father's boxers.
Yifan looked down at his other babies before kneeling down to their level. “Alright,” he sighed as he moved to press a kiss to the top of Baekhyun's head before turning to press another against Jongdae's sharp cheekbone. “Wanna piggyback ride?” he asked with a big gummy smile, hoping to ease the nervousness and fear in his sons.
Baekhyun squealed as he instantly ran behind Yifan, jumping onto his right shoulder. Jongdae shyly nodded before moving to jump on his father's left side. “Let's go,” Baekhyun yelled, giggling loudly whish caused Jongdae's own bubbly laugh to filled the large bedroom.
“Alright,” Yifan said, moving to stand up carefully now that he was covered in small children. He shuffled towards the door before moving over to his (favorite) son's room. “Panda?” he called when he entered the third youngest's bedroom.
“Baba!” the small boy shouted upon seeing his father.
Yifan smiled as his precious little daddy's boy before he came closer to the bed. “Wanna sleep with mama and me tonight?” he asked the small, exotic looking boy.
Tao’s eyes sparkled as he quickly stood up on his bed, panda plushie under his arm. “Please!” he yelled, latching onto Yifan's long forearm.
Yifan shuffled the small child until he was cuddled against the right side of his body like Chanyeol was on his left side, as he balanced Baekhyun and Jongdae each hanging off his strong shoulders. “Let's get Xing, alright?”
The boys nodded quickly before Yifan made his last stop at the room directly next to his own. “Xiao qilin?”
The small lump in the thick blankets shuffled slightly at the sound of the elder’s voice. “Baba?” a soft, scratchy voice called.
Yifan shuffled as quickly as he could to the small, hidden boy. “Come here, baby. Come sleep with mama and me,” he called softly as the blankets lower to reveal a delicate and skinny child with messy black locks.
Yixing nodded, sliding out from under the covers with his black and rainbow unicorn tucked under his skinny arm. He reached for his thick sown blanket as well before taking his father’s outstretched hand. “Are you okay, xiao qilin?”
“Yes, baba. Now that you’re here,” his dimpled smile covered his face as he looked up at the extremely tall man. “Can we go sleep now?”
Yifan nodded before moving back towards the door causing all five boys to shout (well, Yixing only smiled and gave a soft “yay” but that was close to a shout for him) in glee as they were carried back to their parents bedroom, but Baekhyun asked Tao an interesting question along the way. “Why weren't you scared of the storm Taozi?”

“I wasn't because I knew baba would come get me,” Tao smiled, looking up at his father, and Yifan smiled down at his precious little panda.

“I love you, xiongmao baobao,” Yifan cooed.

“I love you too, baba,” replied the child instantly.
“What about you, Xingie-hyung?” Jongdae asked.
“I knew baba was coming to get me too, so I wasn’t that worried,” Yixing answered softly. “I love you, baba,” he quickly added on.
“I love you too, xiao qilin,” Yifan smiled just as they entered his bedroom. The first thing he noticed upon entering was Joonmyeon buried under Kyungsoo, Jongin, and Sehun and then Luhan and Minseok sitting where he generally sleeps.

“Who's ready for bed?” Yifan called loudly, causing Luhan to squeal and Joonmyeon to laugh at the sight of the tall man drowning in small bodies. Yifan quickly moved over to the bed to gently placed Chanyeol and Tao down on the covers before turning around so the others could climb down. He then picked Yixing up by his armpits, bringing him close to press a kiss against the boy's smooth cheek before he placed him on the bed as well.
“Wait! Baba, I don’t have Mu lu!” Luhan quickly called before Yifan could even get under the covers.
He groaned as he turned to go grab Luhan’s precious stuffed deer. “Appa,” Minseok called softly, “will you get Jag-eun ppalgan too, please?” Yifan smiled as his eldest sons before he pressed a kiss to the top of both of their heads.
    Gwangwang myeongso!” squealed Baekhyun.
    “And Teong!” added Jongdae.
“And Banzai! Please appa!” shouted Chanyeol.
Yifan sighed heavily before nodding and heading off to grab the mentions plushies. Stopping in the triplets room first this time, he went to Baekhyun's bed, taking the adorable jaguar plushie into his large hands before grabbing Teong, Jongdae's shark plushie, and Chanyeol's hyena, Banzai.
He then trudged his way to the twins room, quickly taking Luhan's deer, Mu lu, and Minseok's red panda, Jag-eun ppalgan before he began to head back to his bedroom. He stopped outside the door, thinking over what each boy brought into the room before he headed in the direction of Jongin's bedroom and Kyungsoo's.
He stopped at Jongin's first, snatching the small tabby cat plushie, Jongin's precious Mohohan. Then he quickly entered Kyungsoo's tidy room, noticing the boy's special bunny lying upside-down on his floor. He bent down to grab the bunny plushie, yet all the other toys fell to the floor as well.
“,” he growled, quickly snatching all seven toys up and into his arms before moving in the direction of his bedroom and family. “I'm back,” he called behind the mountain of stuffed animals.
“Yay,” he heard his boys shout as he dropped the toys on the bed; he then slowly began handing them to their assigned humans.
“Here, Kyungie. I got Peullopi for you,” he cooed, handing the boy his soft bunny.
Kyungsoo's face lit up as he was handed the toy, and he sent a large smile up at his father. “Thank you, appa.”
“You're welcome, cutie,” he answered, ruffling the boy's shaggy black hair.
“Appa?” Jongin called from his place buried under Joonmyeon's arm. “Did you get Mohohan too?” his eyes shining with hope as he wished that his father had remembered his precious kitten.
“Of course I remembered Mohohan, baby,” Yifan laughed, handing the tabby kitten over to Joonmyeon, who passed it over to his son.
Jongin squealed when his plushie was in his arms, and he squeezed it closely to his chest. “Thank you, appa!”
“You're welcome, sweetie,” the father answered, a huge gummy smile across his face.
He then moved to get under his covers as the children moved around the bed. After the boys had finally shuffled into their places (Chanyeol curled next to Joonmyeon's right side with Minseok behind him, Luhan wrapped around Yifan's left arm, Baekhyun and Jongdae crowded against their father's right ribs, Tao curled up on top of Yifan's chest, and Yixing lying between his separated legs, head resting on his father's stomach), they all began to demand kisses.
“Please, baba,” Yixing asked softly, moving up to sit on Yifan's hips, massive unicorn plushie covering most of his small body. Yifan nodded, pulling the child close before pressing a few kisses to his son's smooth skin. “Heise too, baba!” Yifan smiled before he pressed a large kiss against the top of the fat unicorn's head as well.
“Baba,” whined Tao, “I want kisses too! And so does Xiongmao!” So the father complied, pressing kisses to his precious son's face along with the panda plushie in his arms. After he was down, everyone seemed to want kisses, and of course their respected plushies needed some too.

“Umma, will you give Poong a kiss too?” Sehun asked quietly, to which Joonmyeon smiled before pressing a short kiss to the nose of the adorable puppy plushie. Finally after a few long minutes of kissing and cute begs, all the boys were satisfied and cuddled back in their seemingly assigned spots.
“Alright, now it's time for everyone to go to sleep. Babies, remember baba and I will protect you from the storm,” Joonmyeon mumbled as he ran his fingers through Chanyeol's messy bed hair. The tall boy nodded as his large eyes closed before he yawned loudly and closed his heavy eyelids.
Joonmyeon smiled at his precious giant, and before long he heard soft snores coming from the boy. He glanced over to his husband to (a) barely see the man thanks to the bodies of six children, and (b) hear his deep snores along with seeing his other children already sound asleep.
“Aish, that man falls asleep too easy.” He mumbled before looking down at Kyungsoo, who was curled into a small ball on his chest, wide awake. “Go to sleep, agi olppaemi,” he whispered.
“I'm scared, umma,” the tiny boy whispered in a shaky voice.
“Please, baby,” Joonmyeon cooed, “I promise, you're safe. Do you want to sleep on appa's chest?” Kyungsoo shook his head in response, having always found more comfort in his mother than his father. “How about I sing you a lullaby to make you go to sleep then tomorrow you can help me make breakfast and your favorite cookies?”
Kyungsoo looked up at his mother, eyes larger than normal and shining brightly before he smiled widely, showing off his small baby teeth. “Please?” he asked hopefully.
“Of course, you're my agi olppaemi,” Joonmyeon cooed before he pressed a few butterfly kisses to the adorable boy's face. “I love you,” he smiled.
“I love you too, umma,” Kyungsoo smiled back, pressing a messy kiss to the mother's cheek. He then moved to cuddle against Joonmyeon's chest, head directly over his mother's heart as Joonmyeon began to sing him his favorite lullaby.
Within a few moments, the last child had finally fallen asleep, and Joonmyeon smiled once more before he too closed his eyes and drifted off to dreamland as the storm outside finally slowed to soft pattering.

Author's Notes:

Hey~,

I know I should be working on my other fics, but adorable familyau has been circling my head for awhile now, and we had a massive storm the other day, so this idea wouldn't leave me alone. I wrote this as a oneshot, but I'm thinking of making it a series because I think familyau is just too cute in EXO. Maybe if people like it I will... I don't know.

Hope you all enjoyed,

~ Kay
