So maybe he wasn’t fit for this job.

Then again, was he ever fit for any job?

Probably not.

As essential as an ending may be for a story, a beginning is equally important.

For him, this was the beginning to his story – the exposition to a sonata.

This was where it all began – his identity, forged.

EXCERPT

If anything Do Kyungsoo dreaded the most, it would certainly be target practice. He may have easily passed the exams given to the students on a daily basis, but when it came to physical exercises, he would always be the last one out of the pack. This was the part he hated about his job – how physically tiring it can get. Perhaps running may be the issue, or maybe the lack of sleep, but this job was beginning to take its toll on him.

                He fired. BANG.

                The sound resounded in his ears as the bullet coursed through the air. in his breath, Kyungsoo prayed for the best. Please make the target. Please. Just to his luck, the fired bullet hit the neighboring target. Damnit.

                His instructor’s voice called out, “Deputy Do, work on your shooting. The rest of you, come with Lieutenant Go.”

                “Yes, sunbae-nim,” Kyungsoo chorused with the rest of his teammates. Soon after, Kyungsoo was alone, yet again. Kyungsoo quickly reloaded his gun before pointing the metallic head at the target again. Determined, Kyungsoo focused intently on the target.

                BANG.

                “I think he’s going to fail,” an instructor commented. “Just look at his posture. It’s all incorrect. What good is it to score the highest in the class, but not be able to perform the correct actions in real life? At this rate, he’s going to drop out of the academy by next week.”

                “But here’s where you’re wrong,” a new voice said – everybody present looked up. Recognizing the academy chief, everybody formally bowed. The instructor, who had previously spoken blushed. “I see potential in Do Kyungsoo. He will bring the police force to new heights. Just you wait.” Silence soon followed as the audience overlooked Kyungsoo’s progress.

                This time, the young police officer had landed his bullet on the correct target.

                “He will reform the police force in the next few years – he won’t fail us.”

[Author's note: 14/08/01] This story will be the prequel to "A Foundation of Lies." It will also be a part of the series, "Black Suits." This fanfiction will be mainly centered on Kyungsoo and his life pre-Elemental days. (This also means that Na Hee will not be featured in this story, and instead, another female character will take place Na Hee's spot, so to speak.
