I'm back

I Came Back

Today was the day that marked the 5 years that Kai and Hara had been dating. It's their day of happiness but the heavens seemed beg to differ because the sky was crying. All day, gray clouds covered the sky. It sprinkled here and there but it saved the best for last. It started to pour cats and dogs once the sun fell.

Hara just looked outside admiring the rain. The beef broth on the stove was cooking. The chicken was baking in the oven. The spaghetti was sitting on the counter covered. In 40 minutes Kai would be over and they would enjoy their dinner for their 2 year anniversary. Kai would be crossing town to reach her. Kai was informed just earlier that he had to go to Busan for a meeting or so. He was asked to go negotiate a deal with another company. With no choice, he left.

Hara looked long enough until the broth was almost starting to simmer down and the chicken was close to being finished. She grabbed her phone and sent a text to Kai. Almost here yet? The food is almost done! Be quick or I will eat without you. She pushed the power button on her phone and set it aside waiting for Kai to quickly respond.

10 minutes later, he responds. Hara huffs a bit and picks up her phone to see the text Kai had sent back. Sorry, I will be there as soon as possible! I'm kind of stuck in traffic right now. It seems like there was an accident ahead. But I'm pretty near, but if you're hungry go ahead and eat first. She smiles and texts back I'll wait for you, hurry up and be careful, I love you. Instantly Kai texts back I love you too. Smiling she set her phone aside and resumed checking on the last remaining food. It's all done.

Hara sits herself in front of the couch waiting for Kai to come. She's dressed in a black dress that reaches a little bit above her knees. She applied on minimum make up and choose to wear a pair of flats instead of heels. She thought it was not necessary because it was just Kai, the love of her life, she doesn't need to.

The clock struck 7PM, the time they agreed to meet up and he was nowhere to be seen. Hara got up from the couch and peeked through the peephole to see if Kai was outside at least. He was nowhere. She sat back down and turned the TV on and waited for him. The clock read 7:20. She continued to wait

--------------------------------------

“Shoot, shoot, she's going to be mad, oh god this traffic is seriously challenged. Oh my god, hurry with it already! Move the frigging dead body over and the car so we can go. Geez, don't they know people have places to go?” Kai shouted madly in his car. The clock already read 7:15, he was past due to his dinner date with Hara. He was beyond furious. He wasn’t the type of boyfriend that showed late ever, he was actually very punctual, but today just wasn't his day.

15 minutes later, the cars finally start to move. He lets out a huge sigh of relief. “About time, geez” he curses under his breathe. He drives up past the accident scene and he couldn't help but look outside. He notes that the dead driver had the same car as his. Strange he thought. The driver was covered in all white with only his right arm hanging out which gave Kai a glimpse at his watch. The watch was the same as his. Shaking his head, he speeds up past the scene and glances at the clock, it read 7:33. He sped up more and quickly parked and power walked over to the elevator. He checked his phone, it was 7:37. He lets out a frustrated sigh and blows at his bangs. The elevator dings and he runs out.

-------------------

Hara sat on the couch with the TV on low and looked at the clock, it was almost 7:40 and Kai was nowhere to be seen. Just as she was about to give up and put the food away, someone knocks rapidly at her door. She gets up and moves to see through the peephole to see Kai standing outside.

“I'm terribly sorry I'm late, there was an accident and everything just from there on. I'm really sorry Hara. I'm sorry.” Hara just lets out a frustrated sigh and let him in. He goes in for a hug but it was met with the cold shoulder treatment. He shrugs it off while she heads over to the table and start to uncover the food that had been waiting for them to eat. Kai starts to help her uncover the food. He noticed the tense atmosphere and tried to loosen it up a bit.

"You know what's funny babe? When I was driving here, I thought the rain was the cause of the bad traffic. But that wasn't it, there was a car accident ahead. It seems like the driver died, he was covered in white & wheeled into the ambulance.... Tragic. But the driver looked an awfully lot familiar. He had the same watch as me but I didn't get a good look. We had the same car also. It's kind of.... weird". He waited for her response.

She couldn't stay mad at him too long because it was unfair to blame his tardiness because it was out of his control. The weather just wasn’t helping and the accident was not his fault. Kai wasn't the late type anyways, in fact he was rarely late, so she loosened up and responded.

"You're probably crazy and just thinking too much because you were running late." Replied Hara while brining the utensils from the kitchen for their almost cold dinner. Kai smiled at bit at his ability to make her smile. Right as they were about to dig in, Hara's phone went off.

"Ugh, I'll be back, go ahead and eat without me Kai, I need to grab something from my room anyways." Hara left to the living room heading to her room to answer the call. She walked back into her room answering the call without looking at the caller ID.

“Hara?" She instantly recognizes the voice and stiffens up a bit. Mrs. Kim was fond of her, but she just found it odd for her to be calling at this hour and time. She rarely calls Hara actually. It took a few seconds for her to snap out of it and respond back.

“Yes, Mrs. Kim?”

“Um.... Hara.....” Mrs. Kim on the line hesitated a bit, Hara took note and tried to shrug it off a bit.

“ Yes? Mrs. Kim”. Growing a bit impatient with the random call, Hara just wanted to quickly hurry up and get it done with so she can go back and enjoy the night with Kai.

Mrs. Kim on the other line went quiet for a bit. Hara could hear some sniffling. Her curiosity grew while her patience was hanging by the thread. She was in no position to be patient. She just wanted to enjoy her 5 year anniversary with her love. Nonetheless she couldn't do anything but quietly tap her feet after grabbing her wrapped gift for Kai. She stayed still in her room still waiting for her response. The silence in her house and from Mrs. Kim was truly pissing her off, she was about to say something, but Mrs. Kim spoke up.

“Hara.... Kai was killed in an accident just a while ago. We just got the call around 7:25 after they confirmed his body................. I'm sorry honey, but Kai is gone.” She froze in her spot with her brain in a jumble. Kai is in her dinning room, he is eating right now in her dinning room. He's here, he's outside. What?

“Hara, are you okay?” Mrs. Kim asks after a minute of Hara's silence. It snapped hero of thoughts and she responded.

“Are you sure? He's in my dinning room right now, lemme go grab him so you can talk to him. Kai!” Hara sprints off to her dinning room to go find no one eating at the table. She runs around the room looking for him. She checks the kitchen calling his name to see if he was getting something, but nothing.

“Hara? Hara? Hara? Are you okay?” Mrs. Kim asks in concerned tone. “Hara?”

“He's here, we just talked and hugged! He's here, I know he's here, lemme go find him”.

Not trusting herself, Hara runs around the house checking every room to see where he went. She checked every corner of her house while Mrs. Kim waits patiently on the other line.

After many rounds of checking, realization settles in, Hara bursts into tears and collapses onto the ground closing her phone while Mrs. Kim was shouting her name on the other line. Hiccuping and wailing, realization and confusion sets in. Was it her imagination that Kai came? But he hugged her and they talked and she was mad at him and he was helping her set up the food and and. She smelled her shirt, her shirt did indeed smell of his cologne, she smelled him on her shirt. He hugged her. He hugged her.

“Kai, where are you?” She shouts aloud hoping for Kai to come out of nowhere and answer her. But to her dismay, no response. She continued to cry on the floor and curling herself into a ball. Still confused as ever but she refused to believe that Kai died. Her phone was ringing continuously somewhere. Hara ignored it and continued to cry and understand the situation. Kai was here, she could smell him on her.

Faintly in the background Hara hears and sees the TV still on. From her position she looks up and sees the TV on with a breaking news.

“There was a car accident today that has been ruled as a hit and run. The driver of the car that was hit was pronounced dead at 7:25PM today. We send out our condolences for the families of Kim Kai.”

Hara sits up upon hearing the news. She's frozen in her spot. Her tears fall endlessly while she looks up at the screen to see a picture of Kai smiling shown on the screen. Their memories of the past 5 years flashes through her mind overwhelmingly. Unable to shake them off or control them, she slowly gets up and heads over to her room. She couldn’t stand to see his picture on the screen anymore. The news was too much. She weakly opens the door and stumbles in landing on her bed face first. She laid there crying her eyes out praying that it was just all a bad dream and she'll wake up with Kai's face next to hers. Sniffling for the next few hours, she finally drifted off to sleep. She dreamed of Kai.

Next morning she woke up with last night fresh in her mind & her dream of Kai, she looks around to find Kai nowhere but his scent on her lingered. She looks out of the window with tears already rolling down endlessly. The sun shined beautifully.

Kai came back for his final greetings the previous night. Kai is gone.

Chapter 1: This is great! when I was trying to pull all the pieces together to only figure that Kai came to say goodbye, I felt really sad. Keep up with the great work! I cannot wait to read the next chapter.
