"I promise, it'll be different"

You're Driving Me Away || AFF Rants

At times, I've came across stories with a common plot but just as I was about to close the page, I came across the author's note that says something like this:

"I know the plot sounds cliche but I promise, it'll be different."

So instead of closing the page, I gave the story a chance. I stayed and I read on. And on. And on. And on.

Well, guess what.

I saw no difference.

At all. :)

You made me read your story with the promise that it'll be different but in the end, it was the same old plot and the same old ending with the same old drama. Very well then. That's okay. I only have one thing to say to you.

Thank you!

Chapter 1: As much as I hate cliche endings, I don't mind them either, if I'm in the mood that is. It does get annoying how it's the same at times. But sometimes we want the familiarity of such stories. Granted a twist and turn there would be a nice change in pace.

Chapter 1: To be honest, I don't trust those "I'll be different" promises. It's just there to lure people in... and no way am I falling for that, although I do give criticism and encouragement to some stories that are cliche, telling them to add twists and turns. And honestly, some fanfics here aren't as bad as kpopfanfiction.com so thumbs up to AFF~

Chapter 1: I've learned that if the description or foreword doesn't give me anything "different", it's not worth it. When authors tell us that it's going to be different, instead of showing us, it's a sign.

I'll be really curious to see what you're gonna rant about. Lately I think that the stories that were advertised are really good, portraying the dynamics and relationships in a poignant manner, while there were some that were really crappy. For some time I had stuck to fic recommendations in LJ, and until now I still don't really like OC fics.
