What dreams are made of...

For me, there's only you.

what dreams are made of

“You’re my best friend and the reason why the love stories in my novels ring true at all.”

With a rather loud sigh which broke the silence of the night, Jeongmin slowly leaned back from his computer and rested his head against the backrest of his desk chair. He continued staring at the screen for a long moment, his eyes focused on the last line of his script until his vision got blurry and his eyes started to hurt. His mind went in circles and he couldn’t decide whether to keep it like it was or whether to change it. On the one hand, he was happy with the way it had turned out, but on the other hand, there was so much truth in it that just reading the sentence made his heart ache. It had taken him all night to write down his feelings and now that he was done, an empty feeling started to spread inside him. Jeongmin scrolled through his script one last time, rereading some lines and changing a few parts before he finally decided to close the document. He knew that he would read it all over again tomorrow anyways and that there was no rush to do it now. Tiredness had fallen upon him and as soon as he had turned off his laptop, he got up from his chair and stretched himself. His hand found its way into his hair and for a minute he just stood there in the dark, trying to unravel the mess of brown hair on his head. “I should really go to bed,” he whispered to himself, his own voice startling him for a second. He let out a silent laugh while he made his way through his flat, shoving a few cardboard boxes aside with his feet. It hadn’t been too long since he had moved into his own place and he hadn’t taken everything out of the boxes yet, partly because of his lack of time, partly because of his lack of motivation. But he regretted it now, seeing how difficult it was to make his way through to his bedroom in complete darkness. He slowly stumbled forward, cursing rather loudly as he made his way through the mess. He hadn’t made it past the sofa yet and he knew he’d end up running into it if he wasn’t careful, so he decided to stand still for a moment. His eyes scanned the dark room that was only dipped into a dim lit by the moon shining through the windows. When he made out the outlines of the sofa in the dark, he started to walk again, this time fastening his pace slightly. Silence surrounded him as he walked and it was only interrupted by his own heavy breathing. Only when he concentrated really hard, he could hear a faint snoring coming from the sofa. It would have startled him if he hadn’t known from who it was coming from, but the sound was so familiar to him that he was barely even noticing it. Jeongmin stopped when he reached the sofa, slowly leaning over it. A smile tugged at the corners of his lips as he saw the familiar outlines of his best friend. The moonlight enlightened his facial features slightly, revealing the smile that was dancing on his perfectly shaped lips. Jeongmin’s eyes went all over his best friend’s body, only stopping to stare at the tiny bit of stomach that wasn’t covered by his shirt. A warm feeling started to spread inside him and while it was making him happy, it was also scaring him. His eyes were fixated on his best friend’s face while he exhaled loudly, fighting the urge to reach out and run his fingertips over the smooth skin of his best friend’s cheeks. The inner battle was driving him crazy, and even though he knew that touching him would be inappropriate and definitely wrong, he couldn’t help but to lean forward even more.

A sudden bang could be heard and Jeongmin moaned at the sudden piercing pain in his head. This time he had leaned too far and had lost his balance. While he was lying on the floor next to the sofa, the person on the sofa woke up with a start, immediately sitting up and searching for the source of the noise. Jeongmin was too busy with rubbing his head to notice that his best friend had woken up, but he instantly shifted his gaze up when he felt a hand on his head.
“Hyunseong,” he whispered, rather to himself than to his best friend. Hyunseong smiled softly while he sat up, keeping an eye on Jeongmin the whole time.
“Are you okay?” A tone of real concernment echoed in his voice and he furrowed his brow, not waiting for an answer before he reached out and ran his fingers over Jeongmin’s forehead. Jeongmin nodded quickly, the cool fingertips on his forehead causing him to shiver slightly. Hyunseong trailed his fingertips along his hairline and while Jeongmin knew he should have felt uncomfortable, he didn’t. In fact, an unfamiliar feeling of happiness had risen up in him and he was craving more of Hyunseong’s gentle touch. When his best friend pulled his hand away, he let out a soft sigh and slowly got up. He knew he had to fight this new feeling inside him, he had to resist it at any cost. But a hand on his arm kept him from going further, and before he could even realise what was going on, Hyunseong had pulled him next to him onto the sofa. Jeongmin froze for a moment, his eyes fixed on Hyunseong’s face as he tried to figure out what he was thinking. He hesitated before he slowly leaned against Hyunseong’s shoulder. The older male sighed in content and Jeongmin knew that it had been what he wanted. Both of them were trying to sort out their mind and a long moment passed before Hyunseong finally spoke up: “I fell asleep while we were watching the movie tonight, didn’t I?”  Jeongmin let out a small laugh before immediately covering his mouth with his hand. The laugh had been misplaced and when he glimpsed at Hyunseong’s serious expression, he regretted it. But it had seemed funny to him that it was the first thing that had come to Hyunseong’s mind, even though a feeling inside him told him that his best friend wanted to say a lot more than that.
“Yeah, you did. But it’s fine, I used the rest of the time to work on my next novel.” He nodded slowly to himself, his mind wandering off for a moment to everything he had written down. The atmosphere was somehow tense, and when Jeongmin caught Hyunseong staring at him, he couldn’t look him in the eye. He had a feeling that something was about to change, and that thought was scaring him and at the same time it was filling him with joy.
“What did you write about?” Jeongmin bit his lip, his heart skipping a beat as he felt Hyunseong wrapping an arm around him. The sound of his beating heart seemed to fill the whole room and it seemed so loud and penetrating to him that he was sure that Hyunseong could hear it too. A million thoughts were running through his head and he knew he had to choose his next words wisely. He had thought so often about telling him that now that it was happening, it felt unreal. When he finally opened his mouth, his voice was only a whisper: “You.”

His breath quickened and he didn’t dare to look at his best friend, too big was his fear of having disappointed him. Hyunseong had read all of Jeongmin’s novels and he knew what he would usually write about – love stories that seemed cheesy and unreal – and Hyunseong found it hard to imagine that he was a part of one of those stories. But when Jeongmin finally lifted his head and his eyes met Hyunseong’s, he gave him a reassuring smile. His hand found its way into Jeongmin’s hair and he ruffled it softly before slowly running his fingers through it. Jeongmin was confused for a second and didn’t dare to move, the reaction of the older male had been unexpected and he wasn’t sure whether Hyunseong was taking him seriously or not. But Hyunseong pulled him closer and Jeongmin could feel that he wasn’t mad. He let out a sigh of relief.
“You know,” Hyunseong confessed after a moment, his voice merely a whisper, “while you were writing about me, I was dreaming about you.” A wave of heat gathered in Hyunseong’s cheeks and if it hadn’t been dark, Jeongmin would have seen the taint of red covering his best friend’s cheeks. Jeongmin nodded very slowly at what Hyunseong had said, his eyes were still locked with Hyunseong’s and he couldn’t help but to get lost in them. When the words had finally seeped into his mind he shifted his gaze down, trying to hide the smile that was spreading on his lips. He found it hard to contain his happiness, the feeling was taking over his mind and body and he could feel a warmth spreading in his chest. He hesitated for a moment, not wanting to destroy the construct of pictures in his head, before he muttered under his breath, “What was the dream about?”
Hyunseong cocked his head to the side after hearing Jeongmin’s question, giving him a mysterious look that the younger male couldn’t interpret. The moonlight coming from the windows was falling so perfectly onto Hyunseong’s face that Jeongmin immediately noticed the smirk plastered on his lips. “Should I show you?” Hyunseong asked and raised an eyebrow. To his own surprise, Jeongmin didn’t think twice about it and nodded confidently. Jeongmin’s confidence seemed to encourage Hyunseong and he leaned forward slowly, shortening the distance between the two. Shivers ran down Jeongmin’s spine and the speed of his heartbeat seemed to increase even more when he felt Hyunseong’s breath on his neck. Cool fingertips met the heated skin of Jeongmin’s neck as the older male pulled him closer, resting his long fingers on the back of Jeongmin’s neck. Jeongmin closed his eyes, the anticipation rising up inside him driving him insane. The moment Hyunseong finally leaned forward to lock their lips in a slow and passionate kiss, his heart seemed to explode and an intense happiness washed over him, hurdling his mind into oblivion. Jeongmin slowly wrapped his arms around his best friend’s waist, holding him close while pressing his lips firmly against Hyunseong’s. His hot breath on Jeongmin’s lips and his sweet taste made him unable to think and they kissed for a long time, craving to taste every inch of each other’s lips before their lips parted.
Jeongmin looked down for a long while, trying to catch his breath after the intense kiss. Hyunseong was silent, but Jeongmin could feel his heavy breathing on his cheek and his fingers playing with his hair. He shivered at the new sensations and his lips curved into a smile as it slowly came to his mind that his most secret wish had been fulfilled – he had kissed his best friend.
“I wish I had dreams like you… Dreams that come true,” Jeongmin murmured and a suppressed laugh resonated in his voice. His heart was jumping in his chest and he felt happy, so happy that he had the urge to laugh and to kiss Hyunseong a thousand times. When his eyes met Hyunseong’s, he knew that he felt the same way.
“We did lot of other things in my dream too,” Hyunseong retorted and scratched the back of his head, giving Jeongmin a shy smile. Jeongmin laughed softly and nodded, instantly knowing what Hyunseong meant. He had known his best friend for so long now that he could tell by subtle gestures, even by just the way he smiled, what he had in mind. Hyunseong’s smile was so dazzling and it triggered so many feelings in him that it took Jeongmin a moment to smile back at him.
He reached out and cupped Hyunseong’s cheeks, the smooth skin with his thumbs. “You should show me some time in the future.” And before Hyunseong could even blink, Jeongmin had leaned in and pecked his cheek. A wide smile started to form on Hyunseong’s lips and he wrapped his arms around Jeongmin, holding him so tightly that Jeongmin could feel his heartbeat.
“Our future?” It was merely a whisper, but Jeongmin had heard it and when he looked at Hyunseong, his eyes were clouded with happiness and love. “Our future,” he breathed out and captured Hyunseong’s lips again in a long, sweet kiss.
