"Twelve, now Eleven, and comes Ten, then Nine. Let the countdown begins."

In the beginning, there were twelve of them.

They left when they were young, separated from their families when an evil force known as the Matokis attacked their homeland.

The ground shook and the skies filled with lights from the explosions. The raid started when the EXOians were celebrating. But soon, what was supposed to be the fireworks turned into detonations that rocked their planet to its core.

Kyungsoo remembers vividly from that day as the men with the bunny-like robots infiltrated their homeland. His grandmother was distraughted and crying as she threw up rock walls around Kyungsoo to protect him. But just when a side of his walls was blasted down, he saw his grandfather being strike down by one of the robots. His grandmother cried out in an unholy shriek as she sent seismic waves towards the advancing robots, destroying them all.

Then, Kyungsoo vaguely remembers his Cêpan, Ryeowook, carrying him up a space shuttle. Inside the shuttle, there are eleven other boys, all of them looking as terrified and as afraid as he was. They were all huddled together in the compact inner of the shuttle. One of them was still a baby.

Kyungsoo remembers letting his penguin doll fall to the ground as Ryeowook fastened a strap of cloth over his small body. He remembers that shocking feeling that ran up his spine as a force burned a mark into his chest. Then, the space shuttle took off and all twelve kids left EXOplanet. 

That year, Kyungsoo was only three years old.

It took one whole year for the space shuttle to travel from EXOplanet to Earth.

The whole ride had been grim and scary as the boys inside were scared that the Matokis will catch up with them and destroy the shuttle before they even reach the safe place called Earth.

On the shuttle, the boys all sat in an impending doom of death. Kyungsoo couldn't help but observes the ones around him. He saw the Eldest that is quite chubby and knew that he is Number One, he also saw a taller lanky kid that is older than him and he could be Number Six or Seven. And then he saw the baby, and no doubt the child is Number Twelve. Beside Number Twelve, there is a toddler gazing at him with his chocolatey eyes. Kyungsoo guesses that the toddler is Number Eleven. He extended a finger to poke Eleven's cheeks and the toddler shrieked in delight. It is the first time ever in the shuttle that they hear such a joyous sound. Kyungsoo couldn't help but smile at Eleven.

When the boys and their Cêpan got off the shuttle, they were met with an Earthling who gave them all means of financial support and new identities.

The Earthling then taught the Cêpans how to use the Earth's technology which is much more simpler than the ones back at home.

Then, the Cêpans and the young EXO Gardes split up. And they never met each other ever again. 

Sometimes running on the road, Kyungsoo misses Eleven's joyous laughter.

Deep inside him, he knows that they will meet again one day.

And that is if the Matokis hadn't get him first.

For over thirteen years, Kyungsoo lived on Earth along with his Cêpan.

And over the thirteen years, the Matokis had came to Earth and started hunting them down one by one. Thanks to the courtesy of the Elders back on EXO, Kyungsoo was still safe from the Matokis for now as the EXO Gardes can only be killed in a particular order; by their age. And lucky for Kyungsoo, he is Number Nine.

Each fallen ones before him will cause a scar of their mark to be burned into his right ankle.

Kyungsoo trailed a finger across his mark on his chest, showing the imprint of a devil's face signifying the attributes of the all mighty earth powers that he possesses.

He then wonders when would his mark ever be graced upon the skin of the ones that comes after him.

The first mark appeared seven years after he came to Earth.

Ryeowook had brought him to the beach, and the both of them were enjoying under the shades while eating one of the Cêpan's famous sandwiches when it occurred. It started with an itch that caused Kyungsoo to feel uncomfortable, before the burning pain came.

Ryeowook managed to dragged Kyungsoo back into their van as Kyungaoo started going feral, sending sandstorms across the beach. His legs shot out from beneath him and he screamed, attempting to distance himself from the pain by holding his body away from his legs. Then he sees it; the flesh on his ankle sizzling and popping with smoke.

The scar of the mark of Number One.

By the time Kyungsoo calmed down, the beach was destroyed, and the public held out an alert saying that an earthquake rocked the beach and to avoid going there.

That was when Ryeowook panicked and immediately packed both their stuff and fled Florida with the mark of a haunting snowflake burned into Kyungsoo's right ankle.

The first of the surviving EXO Gardes was slaughtered.

And that was the first sign that the Matokis has invaded Earth.

The second mark appeared when Kyungsoo was showering after gym class.

Kyungsoo had to run out wet and to hide in a janitor's closet so that no one would see the eerie glow that was burning the mark into his skin. He bit onto a piece of dirty cloth that the janitors had used to clean so as to muffle his cries of pain as his skin seared as if they were on fire.

It wasn't until three hours after the school had closed before Ryeowook came and found Kyungsoo in the closet, dirty and with red puffy eyes. Ryeowook bent down and covered Kyungsoo with a towel, before carrying him out of the school.

That night, the both of them fled China with the mark of an eye burnt into his ankle.

Number Two is dead, meaning one step closer to Kyungsoo's turn.

That year, Kyungsoo was only fourteen.

The third mark came four months later when Kyungsoo was reading in his room.

Kyungsoo was running his fingers through the mark of Number One and Number Two at his ankle while reading "The Chronicles of Narnia" and laughing at the seemingly irony of the bible-fantasy that the author was trying to portray when it happened.

Once again, he felt an itch and he started scratching. And soon, the ominous pain that he never ever wanted to feel came. He dropped the book and started screaming for Ryeowook as his skin burned like lava-hot flames being pressed to his skin.

But this time, something was different.

Kyungsoo fell into a dreamlike state. He saw himself flying, soaring in the sky as an old man on the grounds shouted for him to come down. Then, he heard bullets ringing through the air, and the old man was dead. Kyungsoo tried to climb higher to avoid being caught by the men that was shooting stray barrage of bullets at him. And then, he felt his arms grew weak and he began to fall. As he fell, the men below him cheered. They had such dark faces, such evil faces. Kyungsoo tried to summon up his powers to fly but he couldn't. The gravity had got him. As his body hits the ground, the men crowded around him, and one of them eventually shot him in his head.

Then, Kyungsoo out.

When Kyungsoo awakes once more, he was crying.

"Flight." Kyungsoo mumbled, and Ryeowook looked at him, confused.

"Number Three's Legacy is Flight. He tried to fly away from the Matokis, but his Legacy was just starting to develop and he lost control of it and fell." Kyungsoo sobbed into his Cêpan's shoulder. Ryeowook looked towards Kyungsoo's ankle and sure enough, a symbol of a dragon with huge spans of black wings, the symbol of flight, was etched into Kyungsoo's fair skin.

It was confirmed then, that Number Three is dead.

It was one of those afternoons after the young Garde's training when Ryeowook and him lay around in their basement training centre.

Kyungsoo was levitating rocks around in the basement as he tried to control his powers and not destroy everything on sight. Kyungsoo is controlling his Legacy rather well, and Ryeowook was proud of him. He could now conjure rock spears and stalactites to fire at the dummies in the basement, and he could create seismic waves only at the radius he allows. Ryeowook had told him that even his dad could not do that until he was in his early twenties.

Kyungsoo swore that he could hear a tinge of jealousy staining Ryeowook's words as the Cêpans have no powers, only the Gardes have them. The Cêpans are just the Garde's warrior protector that are skilled in mortal combat using various types of weapons. And in return, Ryeowook gave Kyungsoo a punishment which is to tickle him till he ran out of breath, before telling him that the job of a Cêpan is to protect the Garde, and not be jealous of them.

"I miss EXO." Kyungsoo whispered as he lay sprawled across Ryeowook's chest.

"Me too," Ryeowook replied, running a palm through Kyungsoo's hair. "But no fret, my young Garde, for we shall return home one day. I promise you that we will reclaim EXO one day. It has been stated in the Pittacus's prophecy that you and the other remaining nine will save us."

Kyungsoo sat up and looked down at his Cêpan. "But how can we? When we are all separated." Kyungsoo said sadly.

Ryeowook smiled. "You are only separated for now. That is because you have to train, my young Garde, and fully grow into your Legacies so that when the day comes for you nine to join forces, it is said that your powers will be even greater than Mama, the creator of EXOplanet and the Gardes."

"Really?" Kyungsoo asked.

"Yes Kyungsoo," Ryeowook smiled, "and that shall be the day where we reclaim our homeland."

"But what if they got to me before my powers grows fully?"

"They couldn't harm you, for you are protected by the Pittacus's Charm. They can only harm you when the ones that came before you dies." Ryeowook explained sadly.

"And what if they got them first?"

"Then we will have to survive."

It was a mistake.

Kyungsoo had felt it right after they stepped into the Grand Canyon.

He felt something in those deep valleys. The ground at his feet screamed at him not to enter the canyon, but his Cêpan pushed him on.

It started the moment when the huge rock fell down from the sky.

Kyungsoo should have known better. But out of desperation, he used his powers to smash the rock aside from the front of their vehicle, as he wants to get out of the canyon as fast as possible, even when Ryeowook told him not to. And that was when all hell broke loose.

Their truck's wheels exploded leaving them stranded, and the moment he got off the truck, he was hoisted into the air by a mini whirlwind. Then, a sword came slicing towards his head, and instantly, his head was flooded with warmth and light. But the pain doesn't come. Kyungsoo looked up and realized that he is covered with hot red blood. The Matoki soldier before him had his arms outstretched, mouth still frozen in victory, but his skull has been split open as if by a knife. Then, the Matoki soldier's head exploded and his body turned into ash. His attacker was dead. The charm worked; he could not be killed because he is Number Nine!

"He's not Number Four! Capture him before he escapes!" Kyungsoo hears a teenage voice shouted.

He looks over to his left and saw a young boy, no much older than thirteen, extending both palms out at him. And almost instantly, a gust of strong wind slams into his body, forcing him against the canyon walls. Out of instinct, Kyungsoo slammed his arms against the walls, causing a huge rock slide to come barraging down on the young boy before him. But like the wind, the boy leaped away just in the nick of time, and attacked him again.

Kyungsoo dodged the boy's attacked and turned towards Ryeowook, hoping his Cêpan could give him some help, only to find him in a dire situation. Ryeowook was kneeling with a knee on the floor, a huge gash at the area below his left eye as he slashed out blindly at the advancing Matoki soldiers around him with his seemingly useless blade.

That moment of weakness caused Kyungsoo to be blasted by another gush of wind, and he fell next to his Cêpan on the ground. The Matokis surrounded them. Kyungsoo did a mental count and there was about fifty of them. He wanted to cast out a seismic wave, but if he did, Ryeowook would be injured by his magnitude as well.

That was when he realized that they were trapped.

Kyungsoo's hands are cuffed and his legs bound in rope, and a bag was thrown over his head so that he couldn't see anything. Ryeowook too, but Kyungsoo couldn't see him. The Matokis threw them into the back of their vehicle while singing a victory song. The only comfort he drew from is the fact that Ryeowook is still with him and the place where their spines touched.

"It will be okay," Ryeowook whispers to Kyungsoo when he felt the young Garde trembling in fear. "We will be okay."

But Kyungsoo knows that they won't. He knows with a sick certainty that he will die, and soon the rest of his kind would be wiped out by these monsters now that they have been caught.

"They will torture you for information." Kyungsoo barely hears Ryeowook's whispers over the loud engine. "They will cast pain on you; on me, on both of us to make you bend according to their will. And you can't let them. No matter what, promise me Soo, promise me that no matter what, they can't know your number."

Kyungsoo's tears spilled from his Cêpan's words.

"Promise me please. Promise me now. They can't have anymore power over us; over you. The less they know about you, the higher the chances of your survival. So please, promise me." Ryeowook begs breathlessly.

Fathoming the horrors that are about to come, Kyungsoo can't make that promise to Ryeowook.

He knows that his vows are all that Ryeowook wants to hear, but he just can't.

As he is afraid that he couldn't keep the promise.

Kyungsoo's body felt numb as he felt the ugly General Matoki push him into a damp cave. It was then, he removes his bounds and the bag from his head. In the cave, there is nothing in there except for a bucket of water, another bucket to use as a toilet, an empty metal tray, and another weak-looking being before him.

"Brought you some company. Figured that you guys needs each other. Well, not for long until we destroy all of your kind anyways." The General laughed as he slammed the door shut, leaving the both of them in total darkness.

At the sudden lack of light, Kyungsoo panicked. He summoned up his Legacy and tried to tunnel through the cave, but he was hit with a force field causing him to stumble back with a sick wave of nausea that made him throw up.

After he recovers, Kyungsoo leaned against the walls of the cavern. He was terrified. Not being with Ryeowook scares him. Then, out of a sudden, a dim glow of light shimmered from the back of the cave.

"Who are you?" He hears a soft voice ask.

Then, the cavern was flooded with light. Before him, he sees another boy, wearing dirty clothes. His skin pale as if he had not seen the sun in days. The boy observes him with a slanted look, before squinting his eyes as if judging him.

In an instant, Kyungsoo's vision goes off, and his couldn't hear anything but his own heart beat. He couldn't feel the walls around him too. Red alarms blared in his head as he is panic-strickened. Out of maddening fear where his senses are taken from him, he casted a rock barrier around him to protect himself.

As soon as it happened, Kyungsoo's senses returned to him, and he heard a gasp from the other boy.

"You are one of us!" The boy exclaims.

And Kyungsoo let his walls down. He studied the other's ankles and sure enough there are three haunting scars on the boy's ankle; just like his own. The boy ran over to Kyungsoo and hugged him.

"I am so sorry. Why are you here? You shouldn't be here." The boy cried.

Somehow from the hug, Kyungsoo felt warmth.

He felt family.

He felt home.

Kyungsoo soon learns that the boy's name is Baekhyun, and he is Number Six. He has been in the cave for a year, and before that he had travelled with Number Three. He was caught on the same day that Number Three was killed.

Baekhyun's Cêpan was dead, he killed her himself. And the Matokis left him alone to rot in this cell as they don't know what number he is because they have no way to threatened him for answers.

It was mercy, Baekhyun tells Kyungsoo. He let his Cêpan die instead of suffering under the torture of the cruel Matokis. He says that his Cêpan is proud of him. Sacrificing a life to save a planet? It was all worth it.

Kyungsoo also learned about Baekhyun's Legacies, and it turns out that the boy has more than one of them. When Baekhyun told Kyungsoo about his Legacies, the younger was amazed. It started out with his body emitting a pale glow in his sleep, then he started to learn to control it, and he found out that he could bend the lights according to his will. To demonstrate it, Baekhyun created a mini rainbow in the cave, and Kyungsoo was awed by it.

"I can control the light and make anything I want out of them." He says proudly. "Also, I can struck people blind by preventing the light reflected by objects to enter their eyes, making them see nothing but pitch black darkness."

The second Legacy of Baekhyun was targeted towards his victim senses. Baekhyun says that it is a precious Legacy which only materialized after his Cêpan was dead. And if he had that Legacy earlier, he could have saved his Cêpan and himself.

It happened one day when the sadistic Matokis placed him in a cage with a Chimaera. The Chimaera attacked him and he struck it blind. Then, a strange sensation shot through his arms and he saw the Chimaera fall to the ground as if it couldn't move, couldn't feel anything. It cannot sense Baekhyun's movements at all, and it started going crazy as it smells no scent.

Then, Baekhyun later confirmed his Legacy when he tried it on a Matoki guard that was sent in to give him his meals. The Matoki guard ran out in fear saying Baekhyun struck him off all of his senses, and it drove him crazy.

Baekhyun was proud because ever since that day, the guards only dares to slide his food through the slit between the door separating him from them as none of them dares to enter the cell. And also, he was left alone in the cave as no one dares to disturb him.

One day, the Matokis took Kyungsoo out of his cell.

They led him into a different cell and it was surrounded by a clear blue force field. The young boy that attacked him in the canyon sat there on a leather chair while smirking at him, and the General Matoki was by his side.

"Well, well, well. What do we have here Yongguk?" says the boy smugly and the General beside him snickered. "The Garde with the power of earth. How splendid! I can't wait for that power to become mine."

"It will be yours one day, Sehun." The General cackled. Then, he presses a button and a panel behind him rises.

Kyungsoo's heart stops when he sees what's behind it.

It is Ryeowook. He was hung upside down from the ceiling, badly beaten; both his eyes blacken with bruises, his lips swollen, body mutilated and hair shaven. He looks so different that Kyungsoo almost didn't recognize him.

Ryeowook in a breath when he saw the young Garde. Kyungsoo then wondered how different he must look like too, to him. Kyungsoo is ashamed of himself; for being so useless and powerless in captive.

"My young Garde." Kyungsoo barely hears Ryeowook. The young Matoki boy turned to Kyungsoo, and the General passed something from his belt loop to the boy. That was when Kyungsoo saw that in his hand, there is a wicked-looking dagger.

"Time for some question and answer session. We have questions, and you have the answer," the boy says, "and if you don't want him to suffer much, I suggest that you start talking."

"Actually it's nothing we didn't already know, but we just wants to torture him." The General said satirically.

"Oh, don't tell him that Yonggukie, maybe he has something that he haven't tell us yet! For example his Number." The boy purred.

He walks over to Ryeowook, and lightly drags the dagger down his torso. The boy wants to break him. But Kyungsoo says nothing. Kyungsoo thought of the words Ryeowook whispered to him after their capture and finally understood his meaning.

"So tell me. What is your Number, dear Guardian of Earth?"

Then he thought of Baekhyun back in the cell.

"I killed her. It was mercy. I rather she dies than having to suffer under their torturing schemes."

Kyungsoo looked at Ryeowook as the boy started giving the old Cêpan little cuts along his chest while watching Kyungsoo with an amused expression. Ryeowook's eyes pleaded; not for him to spill, but for him to do what he has to do. Ryeowook pointed subtly towards the walls behind him, and Kyungsoo observes and saw that it is made of rock.

Kyungsoo shook his head and almost argued with Ryeowook, and the boy began to give the both of them questioning looks. There is no time. Kyungsoo knows that Ryeowook is right. And he knows what he has to do.

Giving out a battle cry, Kyungsoo stomped his foot, and a stalactite emerged from the rock walls behind Ryeowook and stabbed him deep into his heart.

Ryeowook is dead. His mentor is gone.

Kyungsoo barely knew what's happening as the soldiers pulled him out and dragged him back to his cell. They are yelling at him, screaming, in a mad way, in another language that Kyungsoo have no idea of what they are saying. But he didn't care.

It was mercy, Kyungsoo tries to convince himself. Just like Baekhyun said, what he did was mercy.

But in fact, that was nothing but an act of cowardice and he knows it.

Letting out a cynical laughter, the Matokis slammed the cell door in his face.

Baekhyun had put up a strong front for Kyungsoo. But Kyungsoo knows that deep down, Baekhyun is just that scared little child. No matter how crazy and uniquely powerful his Legacy is, he is afraid.

Baekhyun often cries in his sleep.

There was once, Kyungsoo was awaken by his screams.

"Taeyeon, I am sorry! I failed you as your Garde! I've let your Cêpan honor down!" Baekhyun sobbed. Kyungsoo had to shake the other awake to tell him that it is just a dream, just another nightmare. Kyungsoo then cradled the older boy's head in his chest as he his hair lightly.

Baekhyun will then drapes his arms over Kyungsoo's body, seeking warmth as he sniffles against the other's dirty clothing while Kyungsoo calms him down. He finds peace when Kyungsoo runs his fingers through his hair, he loves having Kyungsoo by his side as Kyungsoo is strong. The younger is so strong that Baekhyun loves the sense of security he feels when he's around the other.

"I will kill them," Baekhyun vowed in the darkness. "All of them."

There was a moment of silence between them before Kyungsoo replied him.

"You can't kill them all," Kyungsoo whispers. "I won't let you."

Baekhyun looks up at him and frowned angrily. That was when Kyungsoo smirked.

"Because I will be the one that kills them all."

"Who is the boy?" Kyungsoo asked one day while snuggling with Baekhyun in their cell.

"Which boy?"

"The Matoki boy with the power of wind."

"Pfft. He is no Matoki. He is a traitor of EXO."

Kyungsoo then learns that the boy's name is Sehun. He is Number Twelve. The young boy's Cêpan was killed when he was still a baby and he was brought up by the Matokis.

"What does he mean when he says that he wants my power too?" Kyungsoo said.

Baekhyun cocked up his brows. "Don't you know?"

"Know what?"

"Each time a Garde dies, his powers will be passed on to the next, empowering the other so that he could ward off the Matoki's attacks. That was how the charm works." Baekhyun said quietly.

"Yifan had the powers of Ice and Telekinesis from One and Two. Flight was a Legacy he inherited. But he was killed when-"

"He lost control of his Legacy and fell." Baekhyun stares at Kyungsoo dumbfoundedly.

"How did you-"

"I saw it in my dreams. I felt it." Kyungsoo said softly.

"Maybe it is your Legacy."

"Maybe it is, and maybe it's not."

"WE ARE COMING."

Kyungsoo shot up on the cell floor as he swore he heard a voice ringing through his head. Baekhyun sat up next to him as if he heard the same thing. Both Gardes stared at each other for a moment.

They can tell something is going wrong. There is a rumbling from above that causes dust to fall from the ceiling. Outside their cell, they can hear the loud footsteps of a horde of Matokis running by their door, voices raised as frenzied commands were shouted through their ranks. Both Gardes looked at each other and smirked; wrong for the Matokis can only mean right for them.

When the force field suddenly sizzled off Baekhyun immediately took the chance to rip the door open. Outside, the horde of Matokis stared at the escaped Gardes and more crazy shoutings ensued.

Baekhyun gave a bored expression as he puts out his left arm. Instantly, the Matoki soldiers all screamed as they dropped to the floor. Some shouted for people around them and asked if they are still there, and to Kyungsoo's delight, Baekhyun's Legacy worked as the guards can no longer see, hear, or even feel their companions around them.

"After you." Baekhyun curtsied while smiling sardonically and Kyungsoo smirked.

He stomped his feet and several rock spikes emerged from the ground, stabbing all of the soldiers, killing them. Kyungsoo's eyes singed with glee when their bodies plopped down lifelessly before turning into a pile of ashes.

Then, Kyungsoo went down the hall on a killing rampage, slaughtering all the soldiers and destroying their bunny-like robots on sight. He never felt more alive. Behind him, Baekhyun fired condensed blasts of laser beams, vaporizing the Matokis into nothing.

Then, the two of them stopped in their tracks as they saw three boys fighting the Matokis in front of them.

One of the boys shot a jet of water at the Matoki in front of him before freezing the water making the soldier glaciate with one hand, while he used his other hand to fling three advancing Matokis away from him with Telekinesis. Then, the boy turned to his northeast direction and saw another group of Matokis approaching, and he summoned up his powers, creating a huge water dragon, before sending it down upon them. As the water dragon hits the soldiers, it instantly turned into ice, freezing them solid.

Another boy sent a thunderbolt along his right electrocuting the Matokis. Then, he drew on the energy previously released in the thunderbolt back into his palms, creating a huge electrified scorpion with sparks flying off it and sending it flying to his left, successfully killing about twenty or so Matoki soldiers.

The third boy disappeared to thin air as a Matoki attacked him from behind, only to appear again to drive a shadow-like lance down the Matoki's neck. Then, he continued disappearing and appearing out of nowhere, decapitating random Matoki soldiers.

When the Matokis around them reduced to ashes, the water-controlling boy ran up towards Baekhyun and Kyungsoo.

"What number are you? I am Suho, also known as Number Four!" He smiles happily.

Kyungsoo frowned. How can Number Four be here? Doesn't he knows that he is going to die if a Matoki gets him? Sensing Kyungsoo's dilemma, Baekhyun answered Suho in Kyungsoo's stead.

"I am Baekhyun, Number Six. And this is Kyungsoo, Number Nine."

Baekhyun studies Suho. For some reasons, he expected Number Four to look older, but no, Number Four looked like a boy just like him. Young and soft, but with a princely aura shrouding around him. Suho then introduced the other two around him. Number Seven and Eleven. Kyungsoo's eyes widened as he looked at Eleven. He couldn't believe that he actually reunited with the toddler that played with him, that gave him joy on the space shuttle on the ride to Earth. And damn, the little guy sure grown. Eleven looked as if he could pass off as older than Kyungsoo himself.

"Hello Eleven, nice meeting you again." Kyungsoo said softly, and Eleven cocked up his brows.

"Errr nice to meet you too? Well you can just call me Kai."

"And you can call me Chen!" Seven spoked.

Then, Suho cleared his throat. "Okay, no time for chit chat. We have to go now."

Baekhyun and Kyungsoo looks aghast. "What?! What do you mean go? The party just started!" Baekhyun said.

"We only came to rescue you as Suho had a vision about you guys being stuck in a cell. He is Number Four, he has to go or he will die and soon will the rest of our planet!" Chen shouted.

"You are the one that sent us that message?" Kyungsoo asked.

"Yes, apparently one of the three before me has that power, and when they died, it was passed onto me. So now hurry! Kai will get us out of here!" Suho said urgently.

"Wait, hold up grandpa. I can only transport three other people with me when teleporting-"

"Then take Baekhyun with you first. Kai can come back for me-"

"No I am not leaving you!" Baekhyun said, looking incredulous.

Kyungsoo caressed Baekhyun's face. "You have to go, you suffered enough-"

"But I don't want to leave you alone here! If you are staying to fight, then I am staying too!"

"Don't be stubborn, Baek, you have been here for more than a year already! You must be dying to get out of here! I will come soon after, I promise!" Kyungsoo assures. Baekhyun looked pass the caverns as he heard voices coming. Time is running out.

"Promise me. Promise me that you will be right after me." Baekhyun felt a tear slipped, but Kyungsoo caught it.

"I promise. Now go!" Kyungsoo urges.

Then, Kai linked arms with all of them and in a flash, the four of them was gone, leaving Kyungsoo alone. Just then, from the mouth of the cavern, the General Matoki appeared together with his guards. Kyungsoo tilted his head as his eyes gleamed. It is time where the predators becomes the prey.

He is going to have his revenge.

I am going to kill them all.

Kyungsoo waited so long for this.

He feels giddy as he tore his way through the sea of Matoki soldiers, plucking a head off here, tearing a limb off there. That was when his other Legacy materialized. Super strength. Another Legacy into his collection. He was awed by how a punch from him could send the head of the Matoki flying off his body hitting the wall roughly twenty-seven yards away from him. He whirls through their ranks, sweeping them off one by one, summoning stalactites and crushing them as he goes. Was the Matokis that captured him here within the ranks? Kyungsoo doesn't knows as they will all die the same.

Kyungsoo didn't realize that he was laughing until he was choked by the ashes of the bodies. He savors it.

Then, as the Matoki soldiers were all defeated, the General was left alone.

Fear. Kyungsoo could literally smell it off him.

"Send my regards to the devil when you sees him in hell." Kyungsoo whispers as he sent six rock spikes through his body. He relished in the blood that was splattered onto his body; he finds warmth in it.

He hears a crack, and there is Number Eleven, staring at him dumbfounded. Kyungsoo cracked him a smile, as if showing off his handiwork with the mountain of bodies and torn limbs littered all around him.

"Are you seriously enjoying this? Are you crazy?" Kai asked, horrified.

"Try being captured by them and killing your own Cêpan before asking if I'm crazy again." Kyungsoo said. "This is the best day of my life ever since the Matokis invaded our home land. Is it wrong for me to enjoy killing them?"

It is true, as Kyungsoo haven't felt so exhilarated in forever.

Rolling his eyes, through all his judgement, Kai still held onto Kyungsoo's arms as they need to use his Teleportation Legacy to get the both of them out of there. "Hang on tight."

They teleported.

Somewhere through the teleportation, Kyungsoo felt something went wrong.

He felt that they hit a wall, then he felt Eleven's power building up, pushing them through it.

Then, he heard a scream, and an unholy roar.

Then his whole world out.

When Kyungsoo awakens, he finds himself on a riverbank.

He felt a kind of migraine he never felt before as he sat up and studied his surroundings. He is in a type of forest. A tropical one. The crickets are singing, but nonetheless the place is quiet and serene. Beside him, Kai lay sprawled and unconscious in the mud. Kyungsoo tried shaking him, but Kai just laid there, still as a corpse. Kyungsoo started panicking when he realizes that Kai isn't breathing.

"No..." Kyungsoo mumbled. "No! Wake up Eleven! Don't die on me!" He says as he pounded Kai's chest. Kyungsoo pinched Kai's nose as he began to give him the cardiopulmonary resuscitation; an emergency procedure for manually preserving one's life, one of the life saving skills that Ryeowook taught him. He prays hard that he will not feel that burning sensation of the mark being burnt into his skin.

"Wake...up!" Kyungsoo pleads as he pressed on Kai's chest more urgently. "Please wake up, you can't leave me alone! Not when we just found each other! Please, Eleven, wake up!" Kyungsoo cries.

"Kai...wake...up!"

Then, a miracle happened as Kai suddenly sat up, spluttering and gasping for air. Kyungsoo was elated! He hugs him as Kai continues coughing, and he rubs his back until Kai's convulsion turns into a series of shallow breathing.

"I'm so glad that you're alive." Kyungsoo mumbles. Kai pushed Kyungsoo away lightly.

"Eww, you have Matoki blood on your shirt."

"Save me the dramatics, I just saved your live." Kyungsoo said while rolling his eyes. Then he realizes that they are alone. There is no Baekhyun here to greet him, and it was strange. He looked around, trying to find Baekhyun and Numbers Four and Seven. But no, he is alone with Kai on these muddy banks.

"Where are we? What happened? Where is everybody?" Kai tried to stand up, but his feet wobbled and Kyungsoo immediately held onto him to keep him from falling. Kai watched the river beside them flowing and the damp smell in the air was filled with the scent of rotten mangroves.

"I...I don't know." Kai replied. "I was transporting us through space and time when we hit a dimensional rift. It never happened before but it sure hits hard. And next, I just pulled us to wherever the rift opens to." Kyungsoo bites his lips in frustration.

"We aren't going to see them anymore, are we?" Kyungsoo asked quietly. He faintly recalls promising Baekhyun that he will be right after him. He remembers Baekhyun's tearful face when he knows that they were about to be separated. Slowly, rivulets of tears slipped and he punched a tree beside him in frustration.

"Hey, calm down Nine. We will see them again someday. I am sure that we will. Suho will find us, he has the Legacy of telepathy. I am sure that we will reunite one day." Kai reassures Kyungsoo as he hugs him from behind, refusing him to do anymore damage to himself. Kyungsoo turns around and hugged Kai tightly as he sobbed into the younger's chest. Eleven is all he has left. He let his heart out and cried freely as the younger his hair comfortingly.

"We will reunite and rise again." Kyungsoo murmured through his sobs.

"Yes we would." Kai knows that promises could not be made easily, but it was only to calm the older down. Kyungsoo released Kai from his arms as he stood back and stared at the setting sun. The sun, it's been so long since he felt it's warmth. The Matokis will pay for what they did. Kyungsoo will see to it himself.

"We are going to kill them all."
