Lee Kana and Kim Jong In were once the best of friends.

Lei Yu’s familiar knock reached my ears. This time she brought me letters that I would actually want to see. She gently placed them on my desk and left as quietly as she entered. Finally done for the day, I sorted through my mail. Junk. Junk. Bill. Oh! A post card from Luna! More Junk. Lastly, there was thick yellow parcel without a return address.

I hadn’t ordered anything, but maybe, just maybe, Kris decided to be sweet for once. Hastily, I opened it up and found something I’d hadn’t expected to see. It looked oddly similar to a wedding invitation. Every synapse in my brain was focused on the sleek silver envelope, allowing me to pull out the card with lighting fast movement. On the cover of the card two teddy bears, one in a tux and another in a dress sat on a wooden table holding hands. It was cute, but it was hard to say who sent the card. As though dealing with a bomb, I slowly flipped it open. I scanned the card over and froze as I read over the names.

That couldn’t be right, my eyes were playing a trick on me is all. Exhaustion was causing me to see things. I took a short nap and opened my eyes again to read the words. They were still the same. In disbelief I checked the name on the parcel. Violent tremors ran down my body causing my limbs to spasm with anger. I couldn’t tear my sight away from the paper in my hands, despite the drying and twitching of my eyes.

The card had read:

You are cordially invited to the engagement ceremony of Lee Sena and Kim Jong In.  

My jaw slacked as I rested my head, dejectedly, against the plush back of my chair. I slumped over and hit the button that alerted Lie Yu I needed her.

“Yes?” her cool voice which lacked any form emotion answered.

“Tell Kris I’m taking tomorrow off and I’m leaving early today,” I hissed into the little microphone. “Personal business.” With that, Lie Yu knew the exact severity of my situation.

The humid air of my office filled my lungs as I clicked away on my computer booking tickets to the next flight to Korea. After which, I began promptly (shoving) my wallet, my passport, my phone, and the letters on my desk into my bag.  I purposefully strode out of the office, making sure that anyone in my way knew not to bother me. I got into my new Mercedes and drove with skill only years of traveling in foreign countries had given me.  

“Kim Jongin,” I growled as I gripped the steering wheel of my car tightly, turning into the airport’s valet parking lot. “How dare you even look in my sister’s direction?”
