Description

In Chicago, five boys have just turned 16, which means the next Choosing Day will be theirs. When the day comes, the five, who have been together in Amity their entire lives, will each change directions, being forced to turn against each other.

Inspired by the Divergent series, which I finished on Tuesday, December 17th, 2013.

Foreword

If you've already started reading, you may have noticed that quite a few things are different in the story than they are in real life, such as government in Chicago and the plain order of the characters' ages.

Let's start with the background of this alternate reality, shall we?

To put it as basically as possible, the government of Chicago, IL, USA is separated from everywhere else, running a completely different government, one involving five factions, named Abnegation, Amity, Candor, Dauintless, and Erudte.

The Abnegation are mainly about selflessness and giving. They wear primarily gray clothing, a plain hairstyle, and their only accessory admitted is a watch, because it is practical. Their values are selflessness, protecting yourselves from vanity, greed, and envy. According to the Abnegation, if you have little, and want for little, then you are all equal and envy no one. Their faction symbol is a pair of hands being held together.

The Amity are the peaceful, playful, and kind faction. They dress in mainly yellow and red, they value peace and kindness, and their beliefs are living in peace with one another, living against aggression, kind, loving, and free. Their faction symbol is a large tree.

The Candor are the honest, candid faction. Their standard uniform is a black suit with a white tie, but it can be any black and white clothing. They wear black and white because that is what they see the truth as. They believe in telling the truth in every situation. Their faction symbol is a scale.

The Dauntless are the bold, daring, brave, intense faction. Their values are courage and bravery. Their beliefs are to prove their bravery, to protect and guard the fence of the city (from what we do not know), and to face your fears and push them away. Their faction symbol is a flame.

The Erudite are the serious, focused, intelligent faction. They value intelligence, and they believe that a calm mind is a clear mind. They also believe in constantly pursuing knowledge, keeping careful record, and that knowledge is power. Their faction symbol is an eye.

Hopefully that was enough, and not too much. Now, to the differences between characters. There aren't many. The one that will probably show up most is the difference in ages. I know it's hard not to picture TaeMin as the youngest, but he isn't in this story. The order, oldest to youngest, is:

MinHo, JinKi, JongHyun, TaeMin, KiBum

Lastly, the title of the story, KDS, is short for 'Kpop Divergent Series'.

That's all for now!
