Fur Elise

Ever since Baekhyun was a kid, around eight years of age, he treated music as life, melody as his oxygen, and the piano as his love. He likes how the musical notes tickle his ears the moment he press his slender fingers on the keys. He feels happy whenever he learns new pieces and he immediately pulls his mom to sit with him and listen to his performance. After every piece he completes, she would always pat his head and say, "Wow~ our Baekhyun is improving day by day!"

Of course, he knows that sometimes, even without improvement, his mom says the same thing just to show him how much she appreciates his talents and obviously, to let him feel her love. Baekhyun would always return his mother's compliments with a tight hug and a kiss on the cheek and then, both of them will start playing random songs together, humming with the tune.

Baekhyun got interested with pianos because of his father. It was the time when his father was composing a piece for his solo performance in an orchestra and Baekhyun, who was peacefully in sleep, woke up from the beautiful sound that emitted from the instrument. Since then, he wakes up early to watch and listen from the stairs to his room. His parents didn't know he was interested back then. All he did was watch his father play then pause for a while to scribble on his music score and continue.

While listening, he closes his eyes and somewhere in the middle of the piece, he would always hear his mother's giggles. Before he could even open his eyes, he smiles. He knows why she's giggling. It's as always. He knows how his mother loves to tease his father while he's concentrating. She slightly pushes him to the edge of the chair before she sits beside him. After that, she'll start to distract him with a kiss which is very effective. Though his father loves it, he would groan in complaint and start to tickle her sides making her giggle endlessly. For Baekhyun – even if he's still a kid – seeing his parents flirt with each other like that is good. It's a sign to him that they really love each other.

One day, Baekhyun's father was away for a musical concert tour. He was left with his loving mother in their little mansion and he couldn't help but get curious of the piano. Oh, how good could it be if he'll be able to play that thing? Seeing that his mother is away in the kitchen to prepare for lunch, he climbed onto the stool and opened the heavy cover with his small hands. He began to run his fingers on the keys without making any noise, just to familiarize with the smooth texture. After a few seconds, he settled his fingers on them in the same manner as his dad did – according to his observation. For a moment, he sat still and thought of something. Then he remembered, one time, his father played a piece and his mother shouted how much she loves it. It's her favorite. With a smile, he began to press keys one after the other.

It was like magic. Baekhyun couldn't help but grin widely to himself and be proud. He never thought he'd make it. He was able to play the first part! Though he's pretty sure there was a difference from what his father did, he knows it sounded close.

"Hon, you're already home? Anyway, you sounded a bit off… OH MY GOD!"

His mom was shocked, and so was Baekhyun – mainly because of her reaction. The glass of milk that she was holding slipped from her hands and dropped on the floor. The milk splashed on the ground and the glass shattered.

"Eomma! Are you alright?" blurted Baekhyun. He was about to jump down from the stool but he was stopped by his mother. She smiled, waved him away and said that she was fine. Of course, Baekhyun obeyed. After his mother cleaned the mess, she ran towards him and put her child to her embrace.

"Wow~ that was awesome, darling." She praised. "When did you learn Fur Elise? And when did you learn to play the piano?"

            "Just now."

That was all Baekhyun said leaving his mom puzzled. What did he just say? Just now?

His mother needed to check if Baekhyun's not joking with her so she dialed her husband, not minding if he's probably in the middle of an orchestra performance at that moment. Luckily, it was their break time and he picked up.

"What happened? Is there something wrong, hon?" Baekhyun's father asked worriedly.

"Nothing much happened. But there's one thing." She answered.

            "What is it?"

"You should have told me that you taught Baekhyun how to play the piano. I was really surprised when he played Fur Elise!"

"What? Play the piano?" he asked. Shock was evident in his voice. He's too busy these days to even teach his son a few notes. So, how can he play it? Fur Elise even.

That incident led to the discovery of Baekhyun's inborn talent. Unexpectedly, he turned out to be a genius. No one taught him how to play the piano yet he was able to play his mother's favorite in his first try. There's no question in it. There's something great in this kid. How often do you come across a person who can play the piano for the very first time he sets his fingers on it? More specifically, a kid?

From that moment on, his parents took extra care of him. Having a prodigy son is something to be proud of but at the same time, it should be feared as well. People might take away the joy of childhood from him if they find out and so, Baekhyun's father decided to keep the news to themselves. That would be for the best. He started teaching his son during his breaks. They played various pieces and he made sure that his son still has time to play. After all, his son is still just a kid who loves to play and all.

One afternoon, Baekhyun left his swing for the piano. His father was sleeping so he took the opportunity to try and master Fur Elise. Soon, it'll be his mother's birthday. Two more days to go to be specific and he wants it to be a birthday to remember. He started playing the symphony in softest way he can. When it came to the fast and complicated part, he keeps on missing the right timing or sometimes, he presses the wrong key so he always end up playing right from the top again.

In the corner of the hallway, which connects the kitchen to the living room where the piano was placed, stands Baekhyun's mother. She smiles gleefully as she observes her son secretly. She couldn't help but feel happy that her son is making such effort just to make her birthday unforgettable.

When Baekhyun stopped, he let out a sigh of contentment. Guess it went well. There may be few flaws but it was somewhat better than before. He decided to rest first when his mother emerged out of nowhere, clapping her hands saying, "Bravo!" as she walks to him. Because he was just a kid, who gets overly happy at the sight of his mom, he instantly jumped out of the chair and advanced to her in happiness. She squatted down and opened up her arms for him. Due to the impact, both of them stumbled down with giggles. Baekhyun was on top and he kissed his mother's cheek, giving thanks.

"Hey~ since you mastered my all-time-favorite Fur Elise, why don't we go out and buy you something?" offered his mother making Baekhyun gasp in disbelief. Really? They're going out?

"The three of us?" he asked excitedly. She nodded.

            "Yehey!!"

An hour later, Baekhyun and his parents went to an amusement park. It's been a while since they went to such a fun place and laugh their hearts out in enjoyment. They bumped each other's cars in bumped cars. He and his father tricked his mom to enter the horror house where she shouted upon seeing almost all sorts of scary looking things. His mom accompanied him in riding the blizzard – since he's still too young to ride the roller coaster – and his father took pictures of them. They simply enjoyed everything, had fun together, shared smiles, hugs and kisses with each other.

When they were about to go home, Baekhyun's father couldn't help but notice how his son pokes his head out of their car at the sight of a toy. His wife elbowed him and they locked gazes. It seems like they have some sort of mental telepathy. They smiled to each other before he pulled to a stop. They all went out of the car.

"Baekhyun-ah~, stay here with your mother, okay? I'll go and get that toy for you." Baekhyun's father said, pointing to a toy car in a store just across the street. Baekhyun's eyes sparkled in delight. He didn't utter a single word yet his dad wanted to buy it for him. This sure is the happiest day of his life! Or so he thought.

"Darling, there's an ice cream stall nearby. Want me to buy you one?" his mom asked. Baekhyun nodded his head though his gaze was still fixed on the store across the street where he can see his father checking the toy he loves for defects. His mom turned to the ice cream stall and starts to order.

His father came out with his toy car. It looked really cool in its red shade. He chuckled at how his dad struggled to lift it. Maybe it's a little heavy but it doesn't matter. He knows how strong his father is.

Baekhyun anticipated the moment that he'll touch the car for the first time. He waited for his father to cross when some random kid ran to his father and tugged on his shirt. He suddenly lost balance and Baekhyun's toy car fell on the ground. One of the wheels was detached and it rolled its way to the center of the road. Baekhyun was angry. His newly bought toy broke without being used. Without thinking, he ran for it.

"SON!!" his father exclaimed making his mom turn around in alarm. His father wasn't able to move fast and his mom stood still in fright.

A car honked madly. Baekhyun's father was about to run and save his son but he froze instantly when it happened.  Everything was so fast.

            "Baekhyun-ah!~"

That was the last words that came out of his mother's mouth. When she saw her son in the middle of the road, holding a small wheel, while a car honks endlessly at him, she didn't hesitate to toss the ice creams in her hands aside. Move darling! Please, move.

She advanced to her son and pushed him to the other side of the street where his father is. Unfortunately, the car hit her. For a moment, it was like the world stopped. Everything went black. There she is, rolling in the air in slow motion before she finally landed in a harsh way. There was a cracking sound. Then, stream of blood flowed out from her head. She was soaked with her own blood when Baekhyun saw his father shaking her back to life. But it was useless. She already left.

With his heart pounding hard, Baekhyun stood in shock a few meters away, staring as his father cry endlessly. He wanted to cry himself. But there were simply no tears. He couldn't do anything but stand there and grip his wheel tightly.

"It's your fault!! It's your fault!!" He could hear his father yell at him.

"It's your fault that she's gone! You're worthless! You don't deserve to live!"

Baekhyun bolted up. His breathing, unsteady.  Cold sweats run down the sides of his face as he pants. Nightmare. It was another nightmare about the death of his mom. He creased his brows and face palmed. His heart was still pounding harshly in his chest that it hurt. After all these years, how could he still be dreaming of it? It almost seemed like it was only yesterday. The memory was still fresh.

With shaking knees, he crawled out of his bed and walked to the bathroom. He opened the faucet and washed his face with the cold water, hoping that it might wake him up. "Eomma," he whispered. As he stared to his reflection, he noticed a tear drop from his right eye. It hurts. It really hurts.

Moments later, someone knocked. "Young master." She called from outside. It must be their housekeeper so he answered back as loud as he could. "Okay. I'll be there in a moment."

"Young master, it's already 8 in the morning. Your father's furious." She added.

Baekhyun's eyes widened. Oh no! Did he oversleep again? He shut his eyes and squeezed it tight before heaving a sigh. Byun Baekhyun, brace yourself for another sermon. He thought to himself.

            "BYUN BAEKHYUN!!" roared his father.

Baekhyun rolled his eyes. "I thought so." He said. After that, he dressed in simple pants and shirt then he ran downstairs.

"Where were you? You're supposed to be practicing! Not sleeping all day long!"

            "Sorry, dad."

"Sorry's not enough, young man. It's never enough! Now, pull yourself together and start right away."

With that, Baekhyun's dad went to the garden and greeted his friend, Maestro Han, leaving him behind. Twenty years had passed but never did he see him smile again ever since that day. Well, he smiles around other people but around him, all he did was ignore his son, drink liquor from time to time – but not to the extent that he's drunk – and spend the rest of his time in the music school that he founded. Baekhyun's used to it though.

The father who was once close to him is so distant now. It's depressing but it's the cruel truth. Everything has changed between them. Baekhyun was forced to train himself to become one monster of a pianist. He often goes to orchestral performances and plays few pieces. But all his earnings in those concerts never touched his hands. His father takes them all. Maybe because he hates him. His father blames him for his mother's death.

Baekhyun agrees. If he didn't get that stupid wheel, she must still be alive.

Baekhyun walked to the piano and placed his fingers on their places. He dreamed of his mom again. Maybe it meant something. Maybe she missed him and the sound of his Fur Elise. Though Baekhyun was forced to play the piano, it didn't change his love and passion for it. In fact, it's the only thing in the world that makes him feel happy after his mom died. It reminds him of her and her love for him.

With closed eyes, Baekhyun started to play. He poured all his heart to it. He hit the notes perfectly and this time, his emotions radiated from the symphony. After one round, he opened his eyes and sighed. "I wish you were here, eomma."

To Baekhyun's surprise, a pair of hands went clapping appreciatively. He turned around just as the person said, "Bravo!"

For a moment, Baekhyun thought it was his mom. Another dream, maybe? But this time, it might be a better one. However, he went dismayed instantly. It wasn't his mother, but some other girl that he doesn't know. Who is she? Why is she in his house? Is she a guest? He doesn't know.

"That was really great!" she chirped.

"Thanks." Baekhyun answered shortly. He studied her. She's a petite girl with long wavy black hair. She's wearing a long dirty-white skirt cascading to her knees and a fitted white long-sleeved shirt. He also noticed how unnaturally pale her skin is. But there's one thing that made him smile mentally. Her eyes resemble his mother's. They both have light brown irises.

"Who are you?" he asked politely. Actually, Baekhyun's used to seeing unfamiliar people in their house. Sometimes, his father brings home few of his pupils for private lessons. Maybe she's one of them. He thought.

"Are you a student of my father?"

"No. His friend's." the girl said, pointing to the garden where Baekhyun's father and Maestro Han are enjoying their coffees. Baekhyun nodded. Maestro Han is his father's best friend and Baekhyun envies him. He gets to see his father's smiles while he, on the other hand, sees nothing but frowns. Nevertheless, he put his attention back to the girl. He shouldn't be feeling envious now. Isn't he used to it already? But he couldn't help but admit to himself that life would have been better if only his father smiles at him even once in a blue moon.

When he stared back to the girl, he noticed the violin in her hands. "So you play the violin." Stated Baekhyun. She gazed to her violin and chuckled. "Obviously, yes." She answered, still chuckling.

Baekhyun blinked rapidly, getting shy about saying something obvious. What is he thinking? But then, Baekhyun couldn't help but laugh with her. She looked so happy that it took her almost two minutes before she finally stopped.

He stopped laughing after she did. When was it that he last laughed like that? He couldn't remember. But this feeling sure is good.

She became silent. Baekhyun noticed how intense she stared at the piano. Maybe she wants to try it out. "Wanna play the piano for a moment?" he offered. Her eyes rounded instantly. Those eyes. Those eyes are like mine. He thought. They burn with passion.

"Can I?" she asked. He nodded. With a smile, she started walking to the piano as Baekhyun stepped aside but she stopped when Maestro Han called her. "Angel, it's time to go."

Baekhyun could swear he saw the sad look on her face before she forced herself to smile and turn around to face Maestro Han. "Yes, father." She then took small steps to the door where her father is waiting. Baekhyun was bothered by the way she walks. It was unnaturally slow. Hold on. Father? She's his daughter? Baekhyun thought.

"Baekhyun, it's nice seeing you boy. Anyway, we have to go. We'll see you some other time, okay?" Maestro Han said then Baekhyun bowed respectfully and bid goodbye. While walking slowly, the girl turned her head around and locked gazes with Baekhyun. She smiled and waved her right hand at him as a goodbye.

Night came and Baekhyun is still thinking of the girl earlier. He stared at the ceiling as he lay peacefully on his bed. What's her name again? He tried to remember what Maestro Han called her. Right! He called her Angel. Oh~ what a nice name. It fits her perfectly because she was just like an angel when he saw her. Her smile is radiant and she's so pretty and and…

"What's happening?" Baekhyun asked himself. He clutched onto his chest. Why is his heart beating so fast? His cheeks felt unusually hot. Is he sick? But no. He's pretty sure he's fine. So, what's this? This is so weird to him.

He closed his eyes for a moment and when he opened them back, he gasped out loud when he saw Angel on the ceiling, smiling at him. He shook his head. Get a grip of yourself Byun Baekhyun.

After lots of tossing and turning, he finally drifted to sleep.

It was already 9 in the morning and Baekhyun is still asleep. No one bothered to wake him up which is somewhat weird. The housemaids are supposed to be pestering him as early as 7am but this time, it's different. There must be something wrong.

Baekhyun woke up at the sound of a violin. He frowned. Who's playing 'Italian' this early? He scratched his head before he squinted to the clock on his nightstand. It read 10am. It's still early. He thought then he closed his eyes and covered them with his left arm. But then, he jolted up. Oh no! It is 10 already?

He started to push the blanket away from him when the sound of the violin hit him again. Hang on! There's no violin in the house. So who's playing it? "Angel." He gasped.

Baekhyun is not sure why he ran his way downstairs without bothering to fix his appearance. His hair's a mess and there might still be traces of saliva on his cheeks but he doesn't care. All he wanted was to confirm if his guess is right. And he is. Angel is there, playing the violin with her father coaching her. He felt happy. Then he thought, "Why are they here?"

"Maestro Han." He called. Angel paused and looked up to Baekhyun. She muffled a giggle which wasn't noticed by the boy. Maybe he looked funny that's why she giggled.

"Oh, Baekhyun! Finally, you're awake." Maestro Han exclaimed.

            "Where's abeoji?" Baekhyun asked.

Maestro Han put down his stick before he went to Baekhyun's side and patted his shoulders. "Son, he'll be away for three months. He'll stay in Europe for his European tour with lots of other well known musicians. He flew there before the break of dawn so he didn't wake you up. Sorry if you knew about it just now."

Baekhyun sighed. "There's no need to apologize, sir. I knew he wouldn't bother to inform me." He answered coldly. Yes. He never informs Baekhyun. It's normal. There was nothing unusual about it.

"Uhm, sorry to be rude sir but, why are you here?" Baekhyun wondered. Normally, if he's father is away, Baekhyun is left alone. He never remembered seeing Maestro Han in one of those days in his life. Not that he doesn't like it, it's just strange for him.

Maestro Han gave him a light gasp, as if he remembered something that he had forgotten.

"Oh right! I almost forgot! Angel, Baekhyun, the both of you, listen carefully to what I'll say, okay?" Maestro Han said. Both Angel and Baekhyun nodded.

"I'm a part of the tour, too. So, we have to leave you both here." He continued.

Angel gave a weak protest while Baekhyun frowned in confusion. It is always hard to register all the info in your head when you're half awake. "What? Why are you telling this now, appa?" Angel asked.

"I will take part in a string quartet, darling. It'll be my first time to perform in Europe. And, shouldn't you be congratulating your father instead? After so many years, my dream will finally come true." Maestro Han explains while he softly Angel's hair. Baekhyun stood still as he watches them.

"But, three months is too long. That time I'll be…"

"That's why you'll stay here. And no. That won't happen. Okay?"

Baekhyun's spirit rose up. It felt like electricity ran through his veins making him feel very much alive and awake. Angel's staying in their mansion? And, just the two of them? Isn't that weird? Both fathers agreed to let their son and daughter stay with each other? It doesn't really matter with Baekhyun's father. He doesn't care. But what about Angel? Surely Maestro Han is aware that Baekhyun is a boy, and Angel is a girl.

"But father." Angel tried hard to convince her father that she shouldn't stay.

"I trust you two. I know you won't do anything stupid to ruin your names because if that happens, you both know how big the possible damage could be."

Maestro Han is right. Small mistakes can lead to big issues. Angel and Baekhyun are no normal kids. They carry the names of two of the most famous musicians in South Korea's history - a very big burden on their shoulders. They can't do what they want, and they don't have freedom.

Baekhyun stared at Angel sympathetically. He knows how she must be feeling. They're both alike in some ways but Baekhyun couldn't help but pity her. She looks too delicate to carry such burden.

On the evening, Maestro Han left after he tucked in Angel to bed for sleep. He went to Baekhyun's room and bid goodbye then he stepped in to his car and drove to the airport.

Morning came and Baekhyun woke up late again. He was not able to sleep early for the second time around. Maybe because he's aware that Angel is sleeping in the room next to his. Yawning, he dragged himself to the bathroom and forced himself to brush his teeth and take a shower. Finally, he's awake.

"Jieun-ah, prepare one more serving for our guest." Baekhyun commanded as he walks down the stairs. Jieun is a housemaid in their mansion. She works all around. She cooks well so Baekhyun made her in charge of breakfast, earning her extra income for her sick mother. At first, his father was against the idea but he eventually accepted. Baekhyun treats her like a little sister.

Seconds later yet there was still no answer. Where's that kid? "Jieun-ah!" Baekhyun called. Still no answer. He slowly walked to the kitchen and called again.

            "Jieun-ah!"

"Oh, I'm sorry. Are you calling the kid who's supposed to be cooking here?" Angel answered. Baekhyun took a step back in surprise. What is she doing in the kitchen?

Baekhyun's eyes traveled down to her hands. She was holding the pan with an omelet in it. He also noticed the apron plastered on her. Is she cooking? But she doesn't have to. Where's Jieun? It's her job. Not Angel's.

"Are you cooking instead of Jieun? Oh Angel, you shouldn't. Leave it to the helpers." Baekhyun blurted. He scanned the entire kitchen but it's unusually empty. He ran to her side and grabbed the pan from her. "You should have left the job for me if no one's around. You're a guest here."

"No, it's alright. I should at least help in little ways. I don't want to be a burden here." Angel answered, trying to take the pan from Baekhyun.

"No, it's alright. Let me do it." Baekhyun insisted.

"No, let me." Angel countered. Both of them started fighting over the pan until Baekhyun touched her hands unintentionally. They froze. Baekhyun felt his heart skip a beat. It's the weird feeling again. Angel immediately took her hands away and cleared . Baekhyun stopped staring at her and managed to say, "Uhm, I'll cook. You can go and wait by the table."

"Hmm~" Angel nodded. She turned away from the counter but when she was about to walk to the table, she lost her balance. Luckily, Baekhyun caught her in his arms. She clutched onto her head.

"Are you okay?" Baekhyun asked worriedly.

"I'm fine. Just~ just migraine." She answered faintly. Is she sick? Baekhyun couldn't help but wonder and be concerned. He led Angel to the nearest chair and helped her sit down. When she did, he went to the fridge and took a glass of water and gave it to her which she gladly accepted and drank in one go.

After Baekhyun was done with cooking, they both had their breakfast together. Had a little chitchat and shared childhood experiences with each other. Baekhyun found out that like him, Angel lost her mother at a young age due to sickness. Though he knew Maestro Han for so long, he never found out about this one. Maybe because he was preoccupied with his mother's death and was busy learning the piano. He also found out that this was the reason why she let Jieun go and tried to cook the omelet herself. Jieun went to visit her mother in the hospital. She last visited her 5 months ago so it's good to let her go.

"I miss my mother." Angel blurted. Baekhyun agreed inwardly. He wanted to at least say something but he was already immerged in the thought of his own mother. Both of them were reminiscing. Then, Baekhyun thought of a bright idea.

"Wanna hear my mother's favorite again?" Baekhyun offered.

"Again? You mean, Fur Elise?" Angel asked excitedly and Baekhyun nodded. "I'd love to!" she exclaimed.

Baekhyun and Angel proceeded to the piano. While they were walking, Baekhyun noticed how slow Angel walks, just like the other day. Is this really her normal? When he asked, Angel said she really walks slowly. Said it was part of etiquette that her father teaches her. But it's too slow. Too slow that it took them 10 minutes to arrive at the piano while it only takes 3 minutes with Baekhyun's 'slow' walk.

Angel sat down at the other end of the chair and Baekhyun sat beside her before he started playing Fur Elise. Baekhyun couldn't help but smile at the sight of Angel enjoying the music. She had both her eyes closed and she smiles every now and then. Since Baekhyun knows the keys by heart, he let himself stare at her beautiful face as he plays. She looks pale but there's still a faint blush of pink on her cheeks and her lips were the same.

After the whole piece, Angel opened her eyes and slowly stood up with a smile. She went to the back of the piano where she left her violin. "Now, it's my turn to show you my mother's."

She gracefully placed the violin on her shoulder, rested her chin in place, and then she started playing. It's the same piece that Baekhyun heard yesterday. It's Italian. Italian is a famous composition of Felix Mendelssohn which he dedicated to the city of Italy. When he visited the place, it gave him the feeling of liveliness and bliss.

Since Italian is a lively symphony, Angel gave her best to keep up with it. She gathered all her strength to show Baekhyun how well she plays it. Playing it correctly and perfectly is also a tribute to her mom. For her, the fewer mistakes she commits, the happier her mom gets no matter where she is right now. But in the middle of the piece, her grip on the strings loosened and she dropped the bow. Baekhyun stood immediately to help her up when she fell. This time, when Baekhyun studied her face, she became paler. Her lips got cracked and her eyes looked so weak that they're barely open. How could they change so fast?

"Are you really sure you're okay?" Baekhyun asked.

"Yes." She answered. "Maybe I just overdid it. Dad said I should rest for today."

With that, Baekhyun reprimanded her though it isn't his job. He's not sure why but he felt angry that she neglected her health. It turns out that she had migraine since last night. He guided her upstairs to her room and let her rest whether she likes it or not. Before Angel could protest, she already drifted to sleep. It's funny how she wanted to get out of bed but she actually stayed on it.

It was soon to evening and Baekhyun was startled by Angel who came down the stairs. He was still on the piano, practicing as silent as he could so he wouldn't wake her up. She smiled and walked up to him. He scooted to the end of the chair and let Angel sit beside him. When she sat, she asked if she could play the piano. A few seconds later, the room was filled with the same music it hears almost every day. She's playing Fur Elise.

"How are you feeling?" Baekhyun asks while she plays. Angel glanced to him and back to the piano. "I'm feeling better, thanks." She answered with a smile.

"Good." Was all Baekhyun could say. He ran out of words to say. While she's playing, he turned his head to the side and sighed silently. He clutched onto his chest. Aish~ it's fast again! Stupid heart.

"You're lucky Baekhyun." Angel said. Baekhyun turned to her. It's the first time she called him. And she called him in his first name. Just his first name. He likes it.

            "Why?"

"Because you get to play the piano." She stated enviously while still playing Fur Elise. What does she mean by that? Then Baekhyun remembered the look on Angel's eyes when she was slowly approaching the piano when she first visited.

"I've always wanted to play the piano. But, father plays the violin. He has this legacy that I should take over." She added. Baekhyun blinked. It means, she loves the piano more than she loves the violin? Is she forced to play the violin? They talked again, exchanging information with each other but this time, it was more about Angel. And Baekhyun found out lots of things.

This night, Baekhyun learned how Angel ended up playing the violin. It was her choice. It was because her mother loves it and she wanted to make her happy by playing it. Just like what happened to Baekhyun. The only difference is, at least he loves the piano while Angel loves the piano more than her violin. He asked for the main reason why she loves the piano more than the violin but she refused to give him the answer. Baekhyun respected her decision and stopped asking. Maybe, someday she'll tell him.

They both went to sleep when it was 9pm. Angel was extremely tired that Baekhyun helped her up the stairs. Guess she's having a really bad migraine. He made sure she's on her bed before he went to his room and drift to sleep. This day was great. He felt like there's someone he can trust and share what he's feeling. It's like having a human diary, a mother and a companion all at the same time.

He noticed how open he was with Angel this day. It wasn't hard for him to share his life with her. Maybe because they have a lot in common. Like passion for piano, love for their mothers and much much more. But he can feel that Angel is not telling him everything. It doesn't matter though. Someday, she'll tell him. He knows she will.

The first month went by. These days were all the same. They both have breakfast together, play the piano and violin together, talk about happenings in life and Baekhyun always sends Angel to sleep before he goes to sleep himself. It became a habit. There were also times when they go out to shop for groceries or eat in a restaurant. Baekhyun strolls her around whenever he feels that she might be bored just being inside the house.

One day, when they were fresh from the groceries, Baekhyun decided to bake a cake while Angel observes. Angel dipped her fingers on the icing and wiped it on Baekhyun's face. The latter took revenge by grabbing a handful of icing and rubbed on her face making her pout but both of them shared laughter. Both were happy.

Sometimes, they go the garden and water the plants. They end up getting soaked in water though but Baekhyun makes sure that Angel is not exposed for too long. She gets sick in just a matter of seconds. It concerns him but she said that it's her weak immune system. At morning, Baekhyun teaches Angel how to play the piano and in the afternoon, after Angel gets her sleep, she teaches Baekhyun how to play the violin.

Whenever they're together, Baekhyun's heart throbs loudly in his chest. Could it be that he likes her? But he kept shaking the thought away. He thinks it's only because they've been together for long now. Living under the same roof, sometimes he felt like Angel is his wife.

There are times when Baekhyun brings Angel to the swings, too, where he used to play when he was a kid. She sits on it and Baekhyun pushes her while they talk about their past, as usual. Then a question hit Baekhyun. Yes. He wanted to know about it. With throbbing heart, Baekhyun asked Angel, "Have you ever loved before?"

Angel's lips curled to a smile and asked, "You mean, my first love?"

            Baekhyun nodded.

"I was five years old when I had my first love. He's the reason why I love the piano."

"What?" Baekhyun blurted. At five? At such young age, she fell in love? That's crazy. "Are you sure?" he asked. He didn't know if he'll actually buy it.

"No, I'm telling you the truth." She insisted.

"Okay?" Baekhyun answered, but more like asked back. He isn't sure of it. How could it be true? Maybe she's just playing around.

"Until now I still like him." Angel said.

It's weird but Baekhyun felt hurt. Is there really such thing? How could she love someone that long? What connected her to that man that she wasn't able to let go? Is he that handsome? Is he that talented? Is he rich? Is he better than him? Wait. Why is he feeling so affected?

Baekhyun gasped silently. His eyes rounded when realization hit him. I like her. He thought. How could I not know? How could I be so stupid?  Now, Baekhyun knows the misbehavior of his heart when he's around her. It's the first time he admitted he likes someone and it never crossed his mind that he could be slow sometimes. Baekhyun's a genius, no doubt. But maybe he's a bit dumb when it comes to identifying feelings. How could he have not noticed that he likes Angel all along?

Sure he met a lot of women before. Sometimes, musicians set him up for dinner dates with their daughters but none of them impressed him. None of them captured his heart. Until Angel came. All she did was be herself and nothing more. But he fell.

His thoughts were cut off when Angel coughed hard. She cupped with both of her hands while Baekhyun started to rub her back soothingly. She coughed continuously. Baekhyun asked if she's alright. She nodded then she gestured that she'll go to the bathroom with her hands still cupping . Angel then walked ever so slowly to the nearest bathroom. Shouldn't she run? There's no need to think of etiquette whenever she's with me. Baekhyun thought to himself.

Weeks later, Baekhyun couldn't help his heart anymore. Whenever she's near, even if he's only thinking of her, he feels happy. His heart thumps quicker and he can't help but smile. Baekhyun couldn't remember when he started liking her. As time goes by, he notices every beautiful thing about her. He can say that he loves her passion for musical instruments, he loves the way she talks, he loves how she smiles and most of all he loves her eyes.

Baekhyun thought, keeping this feeling to himself will only drive him crazy. He's got to tell her. He wants to confess so badly. Angel's just so perfect. He thinks she's the one for him. She has to know. If there's a perfect day to confess, it's today. Or more specifically, tonight.

Baekhyun tiptoed his way to the door of Angel's room. He was about to knock when he overheard Angel talking on the phone. Must be her father.

            "I'm alright, papa… Yes… Yes… I'm always taking it… No, it doesn't show… But papa, I have to tell you something. These past few days I was…"

"YOUNG MASTER BAEKHYUN!! WHAT DO YOU WANT FOR BREAKFAST?" Jieun shouted from the kitchen. Aish~ that kid really! She shouted at the wrong timing.

"ANYTHING JIEUN!" he shouted back, a bit irritated.

            "OKIDOKI!" Jieun chirped.

After Jieun replied, the door burst open. Baekhyun was startled while Angel stared at him in question. "Baekhyun? What are you doing there?" she asked.

"Uhhm~ Well~ I-I…" Baekhyun stuttered. Then in a split of seconds he finally thought of words to answer. "Uhm, I just wanna say, do you want to watch a movie with me tonight?"

            "Movie? Tonight?"

"Yes. Let's go to the mall and have a, uhm, if you could call it date, or not date. We'll just go out."

"Oh, I'm sorry Baekhyun. I'm feeling really tired this day. I couldn't move properly."

Baekhyun's heart twitched in pain. She rejected him without even saying what he has to say. Why is he so unlucky? Then he frowned. Hang on. Couldn't move properly?

"Uhm, I'm not rejecting your offer if that's what you're thinking, Baekhyun. Well, why don't we just watch here instead?" Angel said. Watch here? Baekhyun brightened up. That's better! He was so happy that he forgot what she said earlier. In his happiness, he kissed her on the forehead making Angel freeze in disbelief and shock. Baekhyun cleared his throat, said sorry and awkwardly left the room.

Evening came. Everything was prepared. From popcorns to cookies, balloons to decorative. Baekhyun also prepared lots of fluffy pillows and blankets. He put the DVD inside the player and pause it. He went back to the mansion and upstairs to get Angel who was dressed in her pajamas. They both agreed to wear pajamas because Baekhyun thought it would be their concept. Angel laughed at first but she eventually accepted.

"You look beautiful." Baekhyun praised. Angel slightly blushed before she answered, "Now, don't go saying things you don't mean." Then she laughed.

Baekhyun smiled back. "Come on." He said, taking her hand in his. He started dragging Angel but she moves so slowly that Baekhyun became impatient. "Uhm, don't be mad, okay? But I think I should do this."

Baekhyun lift her up, bridal style. "Byun Baekhyun." She gasped, encircling her arms on Baekhyun's shoulders for support. Baekhyun frowned. Even her grip on him is quite loose. But he didn't bother. He's happy that she wasn't pushing him away. She just let him be and let him carry her all the way to the greenhouse.

"What are we doing here?" Angel asked.

"We're going to watch the movie here. I know you'll love it."

Baekhyun gently put Angel down before he pushed the gate open. When he did, Angel's eyes widened in surprise. The place is beautiful. She scanned the area and spotted a 60-inch television right in the middle. The plants encircled them which made it even more beautiful. It was simply jaw-dropping and of course, romantic.

"I told you so. You'll like it." Baekhyun chuckled. He felt proud of himself when he saw the look in her eyes. She was in awe and her smile is so wide that it made her more beautiful than ever.

"I… I don't know what to say." Angel gasped. She turned to face him and sincerely said, "Thank you."

When they settled down on the couch, Baekhyun took the remote in his hands and pressed play. He plastered a smile on his face. He's pretty sure Titanic will set the right mood. The intro played but it was something chilly. There was no romantic music at all. Oh no! It wasn't Titanic. It was The Conjuring!

Baekhyun panicked mentally. He doesn't like horror movies. He gets no sleep when he watches one. And to think that he's trying to confess, it won't help either! He'll be too scared to even utter a word to her. He was so immerged with his thoughts that he didn't notice his hand was sneaking to Angel's.

"You're cold Baekhyun. And you're shaking. Are you afraid of horror movies?" Angel teased. Baekhyun was shocked. How'd she know I'm afraid? How'd she know I'm cold and I'm shaking? He thought.

Angel laughed at Baekhyun's dumbfounded look. She knows he won't notice his hand intertwined with hers so she held their hands up to his face. Baekhyun gasped. He was actually holding her but he didn't notice. Then he remembered. It's a habit of him. When he was younger, when his mother was still alive, he intertwines his hand in hers to make sure that he's not alone.

Baekhyun felt embarrassed. He said sorry and slowly held his hand away when Angel gripped it tighter. "Don't." She said, looking him straight in the eyes. "You'll feel colder."

Is this really happening? Is it really okay to hold her? Baekhyun felt so glad and at the same time, confused. Instead of watching the movie, all he did was stare at her. She looks so focused. She smiles over silly happenings and comment on scenes like 'Uggh. They better stop playing that clapping game. There's just the two of them.' and 'That doll is creepy' 'Why is it always the basement?'

While watching her, his subconscious mind told him, "Few more day s to go, and you'll have to let her go." Right. Time's running. He doesn't have forever. Baekhyun felt sad all of a sudden. When that time comes, he won't be able to send her away. He doesn't want to go back to normal. It'll be hard to make things the way they were before.

Unconsciously, Baekhyun cupped Angel's face with his free hand and the latter faced him questioningly. They locked gazes. Angel looked at him in confusion while he stared at her longingly.

"I don't wanna lose you." Baekhyun whispered.

            "W-what are you saying, Baekhyun?"

A tear dropped from his eye. He couldn't stop himself from imagining Angel's departure. He doesn't want that to happen. He'll never want to go on arranged dinners again. He's sure. The girl in front of him right now is the one he wants to be with. Forever.

He pulled Angel to his embrace. Angel didn't know what to do. She thinks maybe watching this film made him feel scared. Maybe he doesn't want to watch anymore. She rested her right hand on his back and started rubbing it soothingly. "Shhh~ it's okay." She hushed him.

Baekhyun's hug tightened making it hard for her to breathe. "I love you." He whispered. Finally. He managed to confess.

Angel gasped. Did she hear it correctly? Baekhyun loves her? She was shocked but she can't pull back from him. Baekhyun pulled back but he surprised her with a kiss. A kiss full of love. Angel felt it. He's sincere. But this is not right. This is not what she wanted. After the kiss, she abruptly stood up.

"I'm sorry, Baekhyun." She blurted. Then she ran away from the greenhouse leaving Baekhyun sighing. Baekhyun sat there with sorrowful eyes. He failed. He felt weak. He felt numb all of sudden. But then, there was a loud thud. It wasn't far so Baekhyun stood up to check it out.

He ran outside. What could it be? Then a few meters away, he saw Angel lying lifelessly on the cold ground. Oh no! He ran to her as fast as he can.

"Angel! Angel!" he exclaimed. When he came to her, he lifted her up, enough for her to sit and he rested her head on his arm. He tried to shake her and luckily, she gained consciousness. He was about to ask what happened when she coughed hard. It lasted for a minute.

Baekhyun held her hand in his. But there was something. Her palm was wet. He stared at Angel who was shaking her head before he flipped her hand over and saw blood all over her palm. He gasped. What's happening?

"I can explain." Angel said softly. But Baekhyun prevented her from saying anything. Instead, he lifted her up and brought her back to her room. He's afraid of what she might tell so whenever she's trying to say something, he would always cut her. He settled her on the bed before he went to the bathroom and grabbed a pail and he went out of the room and took a jug and a glass of water. When he came back, he sat on the side of the bed and made her gargle with the water and let her spit all the remaining blood into the pail.

"Baekhyun." Angel called but he ignored.

After making her gargle, Baekhyun took a small towel and dipped it in lukewarm water then he began patting the side of her lips and her hands. Now, she's all clean.

Angel tried to call him again but Baekhyun simply does not answer. He's there with her but she felt like he was miles away. She needs to say it. There's no use to hide it. She gathered all her strength and yelled with all her might.

"Byun Baekhyun! Will you PLEASE… listen to me." She begged. Baekhyun froze. He doesn't want to hear anything. But it was too late to cut her.

            Angel blurted, "I have leukemia."

Baekhyun heaved a sigh. Tears were threatening to come out but he raised his head to prevent them from falling. He couldn't look at her. Why? Why is this happening? Everything was so perfect. He wasn't going to give up even if he gets rejected multiple times. But what's this? This is all so sudden.

"The doctor said I wouldn't last for two months." Angel continued. "That's why I didn't want my father to go to Europe. But I guess, he wanted to go so if that happens, he wouldn't feel so sad."

"Stop it! Please." Baekhyun couldn't help it anymore. He started to cry. He advanced to her and hugged her gently. "I don't care. I don't care if you're sick. I'd still love you."

            "But Baekhyun…"

"No. You're not going anywhere. You won't die. You've stayed with me for more than two months now. There's still hope!"

"But I've stopped the treatments. It's no use anymore. Eventually I'd go. You have to accept it." Angel exclaimed. Baekhyun stopped arguing with her. It'll only make things worse.

"Sleep now. It's late." He said and tucked her in before he went to his room and cried to sleep.

Baekhyun stood in front of his mother's casket, sniffing as he cried. His father was unapproachable and there's no one to talk to. Everyone hates him. Everyone thinks that his mother died because of him, even he himself. There was no other person to blame. He went outside of the funeral home and curled down, hugging his knees as he cried more. Then, a little girl approached him.

            "Hey, don't be sad."

He lifted his head up to look at her. He couldn't see her face properly because of the tears. "Are you Byun Baekhyun?" she asked. Baekhyun nodded.

Baekhyun wiped his tears with the back of his hands to see clearer. The very first thing he saw was the small violin in the hands of the little girl. Then he looked on her face.

"Who are you? Why do you know me?"

"I'm Seonyul. Han Seonyul." The little girl smiled and held her hand to him. He took it and she lifted him up though it seemed hard for her. Baekhyun frowned at her familiarity.

"Have I seen you before?" Baekhyun asked.

"N-no! I-It's my first time seeing you." Seonyul answered back in a stutter as she waves her hand frantically that her violin fell on the ground. Baekhyun helped to get it for her.

"What are you doing here?" he asked. Seonyul pointed to another room in the funeral home. "My mother is there. She died in a colon cancer four days ago."

Baekhyun felt sympathy for her. They are the same. The world has been cruel to them when they were just kids. He went closer to her and gave her a hug. He rubbed her back soothingly. "I'm sorry for your loss."

Seonyul started crying but she was happy that she earned herself a friend.

Ever since that day, Baekhyun and Seonyul started comforting each other. They also played in a playground a few blocks away from the funeral home. One day, they both sat on the swings and Baekhyun realized something.

            "Seonyul. Han Seonyul." He muttered.

"Yes?" Seonyul asked. Though Baekhyun muttered it silently, she still heard. Baekhyun snapped out of his daze and turned to her.

            "Why?" She asked.

"Come to think of it, you have a really nice name." He complimented. Seonyul nodded with a smile. "It means 'one harmony' right?" he added.

"Hmm." She nodded. "Seonyul means harmony and my family name is Han. So when you say Han Seonyul, it means 'one harmony'. It's my father who thought of that name. Genius, isn't it?"

After a moment of silence, Seonyul searched her pocket for something to tie her hair with. Then she tied her short hair to a ponytail. Baekhyun froze. Now he knows. That's why she's so familiar. Anger boiled in him. He stood up from the swing and yelled at her.

            "I hate you!!"

Baekhyun woke up. A dream. Another dream. But why did he dream of her? He never once dreamed of Seonyul before. In the middle of thinking, Baekhyun heard Moonlight Sonata. Another masterpiece of Beethoven. He jolted up. There's no other person who'll play it other than Angel.

He ran down the stairs and there she is, looking weaker than before. Paler and more sad than ever. She shouldn't be playing a piece that's so gloomy. It'll only depress her more. Baekhyun walked nearer and back hugged her. Angel stopped.

"I'm sorry for what happened last night." He said.

With a weak smile, Angel turned her head to him and cupped his face. "Don't be. It's not your fault."

Baekhyun leaned down and kissed her. When he pulled back, she avoided his gaze and went back to playing the piano. He sat down next to her.

"I know you feel something for me, Angel. I can feel that you like me, too."

Angel's fingers dropped on the keys making an awful sound. She heaved a sigh and faced him. "You know nothing Baekhyun."

"No. I'm sure." He answered firmly. He's sure of it. Angel likes him back. "Because when I kiss you, you don't push me."

However, she was not pleased with what he said. Instead, she shut her eyes tightly before she gritted her teeth. "I'm sick Baekhyun! Do you think I have the energy to push you?" she snarled. With one last glare at him, she stood up and walked away. Baekhyun followed her and immediately caught up with her because of her slow pace.

"Then tell me otherwise! Tell me you don't like me! Tell me you feel nothing for me!"

Angel didn't answer. She only stood there. Her eyes became watery until she begun to cry. Baekhyun pulled her to his embrace again. "Please stop it Baekhyun." She sobbed. She's not supposed to love him. She'll only bring pain to him. She's no good.

"I told you so. You like me."

"But Baekhyun. I'm dying." She whispered. It hurt Baekhyun a bit. Why? Because it's the truth. She'll soon die. She'll leave him forever. But he didn't think of it. Who knows? No one can predict when or where a person will die. Then, something came to Baekhyun. A brilliant idea. He pulled back and cupped her face with his hands.

"Angel." He started. "Will you marry me?"

It was all so sudden. Angel's heart thumped faster. It beats louder. Marry? That's a big word. That's a very very hard question to answer. And with her state, she never imagined that there'd be someone who'll ask her hand in marriage. With that, she felt grateful to Baekhyun.

"Baekhyun-ah~ Will you play something for me first?" she asked softly.

"Then you'll give an answer to my question?" he asked. Angel nodded.

Baekhyun lifted her up and walked to the piano. He made her sit down before he sat next to her and fixed his fingers on the keys. "So, what is it that you want me to play?" he asked lovingly.

            "Fur Elise."

Baekhyun played it with all his heart. Fur Elise. His mother's favorite. Angel's favorite. It's the favorite of the two women he loves the most. While playing, Angel leaned her head on Baekhyun's shoulder. He smiled.

"Do you know the story behind Fur Elise?" she asked. Of course, Baekhyun knows. But he wanted to hear her voice so he shook his head as if he knows nothing.

"Beethoven was in love back then. They believe that Fur Elise was composed by him for the woman he loves, Therese Malfatti. He asked her hand in marriage, but she refused." She narrated. Baekhyun suddenly stopped. Is this it? Is this her answer?

"Are you…" He wanted to ask but he couldn't finish his question.

"Thank you Baekhyun. Thank you for loving me. But, I think it would be better if we just stay like this."

Rejected. He was rejected once again. "So you're following the footsteps of Therese Malfatti, is that it?" Baekhyun asked sadly.

            "No, Baek."

            "Then what?"

"Therese never loved Beethoven. There's a big difference there. I love you." She confessed, looking straight to his eyes. Baekhyun frowned.

"Then marry me. If you love me, marry me." He replied, almost begging. But Angel stood firm with her decision. "It's not always the case."

The door burst open. Both Angel and Baekhyun turned their heads to the man. It's Baekhyun's father. He's back. So it means…

"They're back." He whispered and Angel nodded. Maestro Han emerged from behind his father and smiled widely to his daughter. Baekhyun fixed his gaze on Angel. She was smiling widely, too. She looks so happy that her father is back. He knows she misses him so badly. Sometimes, in the middle of the night, Baekhyun would run to her room and check if she's having nightmare because there were times when she cries out her father's name. Baekhyun always come to calm her down.

"Oh my Angel." Maestro Han cooed, spreading his arms. Angel stood up and 'ran' to him or more specifically, did her best to run to his embrace as soon as possible. But…

Angel was about to reach her father. She runs at first but then she started to walk until she stopped. Her eyes shut close and she collapsed to the ground. Everybody in the place who witnessed ran to her, including Baekhyun and his father. Maestro Han pulled her to rest her head on his lap. He tried to shake her but she remained the same. Unconscious and still. Baekhyun felt his heart twitch. He felt panic. What to do? What to do?

It was just like before. It was like watching his mother die. Is she going to die? "Byun Baekhyun! Call an ambulance!" called his father but he heard nothing but voices in his mind saying, "It's your fault! It's your fault!"

Tears started to form in his eyes as his father tried to check her pulse. "It's weak." He told Maestro Han which made the latter burst into tears. "Hold on, my love. We'll call an ambulance for you."

"Snap out of it! Call an ambulance!" Baekhyun's father yelled and finally he snapped out. Baekhyun shakily took his phone out and dialed the emergency number. After he did, he stared back to Angel. He stood on his knees and touched her face with the back of his hand. "Please hold on." He whispered.

"It's getting weaker!" Baekhyun's father announced a few minutes later. This time, Maestro Han couldn't take it anymore. Where's that ambulance for goodness sake?!

"Angel. Angel. Get a grip of yourself. I know you're strong. You know that, too. Hold on darling. Hold on." Her pulse is getting weaker and weaker by the second.

"Angel! Angel!" shouted Maestro Han. "Angel! My Han Seonyul!"

Baekhyun froze. Han Seonyul. He called her Han Seonyul. The girl he met at the funeral home when he was a kid. His playmate at the nearby playground of the funeral home. So that explains the violin. But what made Baekhyun shocked out of all was the fact that Han Seonyul is the girl he hated the most. Other than himself, he blamed her for his mother's death. Han Seonyul was the one who came tugging his father's shirt when he bought the toy car for him. She was the reason why it fell on the ground and its wheel rolled to the center of the road where he picked it up. And that led to his mother's death.

So that's why he dreamed of that kid. Because that kid was Angel. Angel and Han Seonyul is one same person. And he fell in love with the woman he hated.

The ambulance came and took Angel away with Maestro Han while Baekhyun was still on his knees and in a trance. His father walked pass him making him snap out of his daze.

"Abeoji." He called. Baekhyun's father came to a halt, his back facing his son.

"Are you aware of it?" Baekhyun asked. "Aware that Angel's that child."

He turned to his son and nodded. So he knew. He knew all along.

"You didn't resent her? Even just a little?"

"It's all in the past." His father answered shortly. Past? But that didn't apply to him. Why? He hates his son. Why does he hate him when he could say it's all in the past? This is not right. This is unjust. His father was about to step when he stopped him again.

"It was her fault that that toy car fell!"

Baekhyun's father turned around to face him. "She's innocent!"

"And so am I!" Baekhyun argued back.

"But it was never her fault that you ran to the center of the road to get your toy car's damn wheel!" his father snapped back. He's right. It's still his fault. He's still the main reason.

"Do you hate me that much?" Baekhyun cried. "Why father? Why?"

"I never told you I hate you. You assumed." He retorted and with that, he turned back around and started to walk away from his bewildered son.

He never hated me. I was the one who convinced myself that he does. Baekhyun thought. So it was all in his mind? All those things that he told him on the day his mom died, was it all in his head?

"It's your fault!! It's your fault!!"

"It's your fault that she's gone! You're worthless! You don't deserve to live!"

Those words. They all came from him? From his own? Baekhyun stood up and unsteadily dragged himself to the wall. He then shouted, releasing all the tension he's feeling inside before he started punching the wall. He punched so hard that his fists went bleeding but he still continued.

"You're a fool Byun Baekhyun! You're a fool!" he hissed. After a moment a strong grip on his hand made him stop from punching the wall. He turned to face the man. It was his father. His father looked him in the eye with teary eyes. "Please, son. Please put an end to your suffering."

            "Abeoji~"

After so many years, he felt his father's hug again. He missed it. And it somewhat calmed him down. "Let's all move on son. Don't dwell in the past."

He couldn't stop from crying anymore. Baekhyun tightened his hug to his father and sobbed everything out on his shoulder as he felt him rub his hands on his back. Baekhyun's shoulder started to feel wet and that's when he realized, his father was actually crying with him.

They pulled back from each other.

"I missed hugging you." His father smiled and Baekhyun ree to him. "I miss you too appa. So much."

"Now, aren't you going to the hospital? Gokjo told me you confessed to his daughter last night." His father said. "Here. You might need your money." He added, handing his son a card.

Right! Angel! He needs to go and check up on her. Baekhyun brightened and realized that if it weren't for her, he might have thought that his father resents him 'til now. Baekhyun couldn't express his gratitude to the girl he loves. He felt guilty that for a moment there, his hate came back. But not anymore. He'll fix things up. He'll go to her and bring her back to life. Back to his side.

Baekhyun jumped in to his car and drove his way to the hospital where Angel was admitted. He immediately looked for her in the information desk and he ran as fast as he could when he learned she just came out of the emergency room and was transferred to a private room.

"Angel." He sighed when he came. He neared her and her cheeks before he leaned over and kissed her forehead with closed eyes.

"Baekhyun, son." Maestro Han called. He signaled for Baekhyun to come with him outside. They both sat on the chairs and Maestro Han released a sigh.

"Have she told you?" he asked. Baekhyun couldn't comprehend so he asked. "Told me what, sir?"

Baekhyun waited for an answer but received none. Instead, he patted Baekhyun on his shoulder and stood up saying that it's better if Seonyul tells him herself. It must be something important. But Baekhyun nodded. He's willing to wait until she regains her consciousness. He turned his head to look at the disappearing figure of Maestro Han. What could it be? He couldn't help but wonder.

Days passed by yet Angel's still asleep. Every day, Baekhyun visits her and puts a bouquet of flowers beside her. He talks to her though she's asleep and he kisses her cheeks whenever he goes. He reads her stories and cleans her hand. Basically, Baekhyun lives with her in that room. Maestro Han would always scold him if he doesn't want to go home when it's already late.

And now, it's already 9pm. Cut-off time of visitors.

"Come on, son. It's time for you to go home." Baekhyun's father said. He turned his head to him and smiled. "One more minute, appa. Just one more."

With that one minute, Baekhyun stared longingly at Angel. I wish you wake up and hug me again. He thought. With one last sigh, he stood up and kissed her forehead. His hand was still holding hers when he turned around to leave. His grip on her loosens when he felt her hand grip his. Baekhyun's eyes widened.

"Baek… Baekhyun~" Angel managed to call. He, Maestro Han and Baekhyun's father all gathered around her. She's awake! She's finally awake!

"My Angel. My Han Seonyul!" Maestro Han exclaimed in happiness as he held his daughter's right hand and rubbed the back of it on his cheeks before bringing it to his lips and kissed. Baekhyun tightened his grip on her left hand. "I'm here. I'm right here." He answered. "How are you feeling?"

Baekhyun's father went outside to call the doctor then Angel whispered, "Guess I dozed off." Then she let out a weak laugh. Her father and Baekhyun laughed with her.

"Yes you did." Her father answered. His voice was cracking a bit. He sniffed before he said, "I'll go and check up on Hyunjae. Now, where's that doctor?" then he went outside and left the both of them to themselves. Baekhyun brought her to his embrace and Angel closed her eyes, savoring the moment.

Minutes passed by and the doctor finally came. She checked up on Angel and she turned to all of them after all the tests. "It's a miracle." She simply stated. Their eyes glowed in celebration. She's alright!

Baekhyun ran to her side and held her hands again. "I told you so. Everything's going to be fine." Angel nodded. Her eyes still looked tired but it's okay. As long as she's alive, Baekhyun will do anything for her. If she needs blood, he'll gladly donate all of his. The question is, do they match? But it doesn't matter. If they have different blood type then he'll look for someone with same blood type as hers.

Everyone went out of the room except for Baekhyun who stayed by her side and talked with her endlessly. Though she seldom answers, it is okay with him. He knows she's still feeling tired. At least she's awake and she listens to his jokes and laugh heartily.

"Baekhyun-ah~ Could you please help me up?" Angel asked. Of course, Baekhyun obeyed and helped her sit up. However, Angel pushed the blankets away from her and started pulling her IV with her. Baekhyun couldn't do anything but help her.

"Where are you going?" He asked, helping her walk but she almost tumbled down so Baekhyun decided to carry her in his arms instead. They both went out of the room with him carrying Angel and the latter gripping the IV stand so it'll follow them wherever they go.

            "So?" he asked.

"Find me a piano, please. I know there's one in here." She answered. Though Baekhyun was confused as to why she was looking for a piano, he still agreed to do it. People stare at them as they pass by but all the both of them did was to smile at them. Other girls couldn't help but feel envious.

Finally, they found the piano she was referring to.

"How'd you know there's a piano in here?" he asked.

"This is where my mom was hospitalized. And this place was our favorite in here."

Angel gestured for Baekhyun to put her down and the latter did. He settled her on the chair and he sat beside her as usual. "Baekhyun-ah~ Let's play Fur Elise." She requested.

Baekhyun started playing while Angel nodded her head with the tune. She missed it. She missed the sound of the piano and she missed Baekhyun playing it for her. Baekhyun smiled, happy that he sees her enjoying his performance.

"This is a private concert. You should pay, madam." He joked. Angel couldn't help but laugh. Moments later, the place was filled with other people. They came to check out who's playing the piano.

"Now, it's not private anymore." She teased. "Do I still have to pay?"

Baekhyun grinned. He continued playing until Angel leaned her head on his shoulder. Others started whistling but they didn't mind. It still felt like there was no one else in there aside from both of them.

"Do you remember when I told you about my first love?" Angel suddenly asked of nowhere. "And do you remember that I told you I still like him even until now?" she added.

Baekhyun didn't stop playing. He answered, "Of course. You were five back then right?"

"Yes. I was five back then when I first met you." Baekhyun was speechless. Then Angel continued. "I'm very sorry about your mother. I didn't mean to cause your toy to fall. Silly but, I tugged on Maestro Byun's shirt when I learned that you're his son. I was so happy when I saw him at my mother's toy store."

So it was their toy store. Baekhyun nodded to let her continue. For now, he wanted to listen first. Listen to everything she has to say.

"By now, maybe you're aware of who I am." She said. Her tone was a little depressed. Baekhyun turned his head to the side where she was leaning without stopping from playing and smiled.

"You're Han Seonyul." He said. "And you're the woman I love. The woman whom I want to be with forever." Angel sat up straight and stared at him in surprise.

"Byun Baekhyun~" she gasped. "You're not angry?"

"Of course not. It isn't your fault. It's no one's fault. It was an accident." He explained. Then he leaned his head closer to hers. "So, have you considered it? Becoming my wife and lifetime partner?"

Angel smiled. But not like the normal smile. Something bothered Baekhyun. Is she still hesitating? Angel hugged Baekhyun tightly who was still not done playing Fur Elise.

"I love you~" she whispered. A grin plastered on Baekhyun's face. At last. She's accepting his proposal! Angel pulled away and kissed him passionately. The crowd went wild, even their fathers. The both of them came without the lovebirds noticing.

"I guess we'll be family, huh." Baekhyun's father grinned happily to his friend beside him. But, Maestro Han only sighed and patted the shoulder of his friend before he lowered his head to cover his sadness and walked away.

Angel pulled away from the kiss and hugged Baekhyun again. Fur Elise is reaching its end any second from now.

"I'd love to." She answered. Baekhyun smiled in victory. But Angel whispered a continuation.

"… in our next lifetime." With that, her hands fell down to his sides as her eyes closed. Her breathing stopped at the very moment Baekhyun hit the last note of Fur Elise. The time stopped. Baekhyun froze as he felt Angel becoming colder. She was gone. Forever gone. He hugged her tight not minding how cold she felt in his arms. He let his tears fall down as he whispered to her ear, "I'll count on that promise. Let's meet in our next lifetime. By that time, don't ever reject my proposal again, okay?"

One year later…

It was Angel's death anniversary. Baekhyun bought a bouquet of flowers and drove to her grave as early as possible. He used the truck instead of his car. When he came, he grabbed the flowers in his hand and settled it down.

"Yah! Han Seonyul! Did you miss me?" he asked aloud. "Oh, but don't try to answer. I might run for my life if you do." He quickly added and laughed on his own silly joke.

"Oh, wait. I brought you something." He said. He ran back to the truck and opened the container at the back. There, he grabs a hold of the rope that was attached to the piano and started pulling it just like what Bruno Mars did in his music video. He pulled it until he came to the side of her grave. He settled the piano before wiping the sweat on his forehead.

"Lucky you're on top of a mountain and not near a railroad." He joked again. Baekhyun went back to the truck and carried the missing piece. The chair. He placed it in front of the piano and he sat on it.

"Ready, Angel? Okay then. At the count of three. One, two, three."

Baekhyun began playing Fur Elise: the piece that she loved the most. He knows that she's hearing him play it now. Baekhyun scooted nearer to the other end of the chair, leaving a little space beside him. Maybe, Angel will sit next to him just like she always did and put her head on his shoulder.

Baekhyun closed his eyes and feel the breeze embrace him. The place is so peaceful. Angel must be feeling really contented here. Especially now that he's playing her favorite. "Do you like it, my love?" he asked.

There's always no answer to everything he says but Baekhyun knows that she hears him. She's there with him, listening to Fur Elise. She's there, waiting for him. She's there. Though it feels lonely that she's not around, Baekhyun will bear with the pain. He'll hold on to her promise.

Someday, they'll be together again to live a happily ever after.
