Part1

If We're Together (Two Shots Sequel)

Another normal lunch break at school, well, except Dongjun sitting alone on their usual table because Siwan was sick and Kevin went to library straight from their class, because sick Siwan means he need to survive his Korean quiz alone. So there he is, with earphone plugged into both of his ears, a comic book in one hand and another hand holding his eating utensils. He actually was about to skip his lunch, because really, eating alone isn’t one of his favorite things to do, but a Dongjun needs to eat too.

He was about to flip his comic books when someone put a tray in front of him and took a seat across him. He lifted his head up and greeted with a handsome boy grinning to him.

“What do you want?” He asked the boy sitting in front of him as he took off one of his earphone.

“Eating lunch obviously..” the other boy answered him, still wearing his radiant smile.

“What I mean was why are you here? Why don’t you sit with your other friends?” He asked him again.

“Didn’t we usually eat together these days?”

“That if Siwan was here. Since he’s not here now, I don’t feel the need to eat my lunch with you, or any of you that is..” He started to lose his patience.

“Ah.... I thought we’re all friends already, but can you let this one slide? Minwoo and Heechul aren’t here too today, and I don’t want to look like a loner, I’m not going to bother you, really, and you don’t even need to talk to me, just ignore me, okay?” Junyoung, the boy in front of him was practically begging him to let him sit there.

Dogjun’s eyes looked around the cafeteria, and it’s seems like there’s no more empty table, and he didn’t want to take a responsibility if someone is starving because of him, did he? So instead, he just said “Whatever!” and back to his comic book and poking his rice again.

“Where are Siwan and Kevin by the way?” Junyoung asked him in between munching his egg sandwich.

“Didn’t Heechul tell you? Siwan is sick, he’s at Heechul’s place now, because he doesn’t want to stay at his own home, nor his parents would care anyway... and Kevin... He’s at the library...................................... Didn’t you say you wouldn’t talk to me?” He lifted his face from his comic book for the second time that day and throwing an offensive glare towards Junyoung.

Instead of feeling offended, Junyoung chuckled and smiled before saying “You have one of your earphones off, so I thought you’re okay with a conversation. I’m sorry, but I really want to be friend with you. That’s all.”

Dongjun blushed a little, making his cheeks looks adorable with a tint of pink. He wasn’t used to it, he wasn’t used to have people wanted to make friend with him. He’s pretty for a boy, but his appearance looks cold, and he’s indeed cold most of the time, so people never bothered to even try. Well, except Siwan, because Siwan was unbelievably persistent and patient and it worked. Kevin was dragged along by Siwan, because Kevin was lost too, for a different reason. And he thought, it was enough with Kevin and Siwan, and he didn’t expect for more.

He didn’t know what to do so he said “You’re talking too much!” instead.

Junyoung was trying his best not to squeal at the sight, he didn’t really sure whether if the pink color on Dongjun’s cheek was because he was shy, angry or maybe because the cold weather, but it’s still adorable. But he held himself just in case it was because he’s angry.

“What? I didn’t talk as much as Minwoo, but not as little as Heechul too. No, it’s not that Heechul talk so little it’s just he’s so slow.”

Dongjun should admit that that was kinda true and funny at the same time.

“So,” Dongjun started again after a minute of silence, decided that it wouldn’t kill to be a little bit nice to the other boy, “Where’re your friends?”

Junyoung can’t hide his smile just for the fact that Dongjun talk to him.

“Heechul has an extra job today, while Minwoo attending a dance competition.”

Another silence.

“By the way, do you really hate me?” Junyoung finally had the gut to ask that question.

“Not really..” Dongjun answered without lifting his head from his comic book.

“Oh... I thought you were... ”

“I’m just not interested with rich people.” Dongjun finally said after thinking for a while.

“Why?”

“Just because.” With that he closed his comic books, and ready to leave. “I need to find Kevin before class, bye!”

He left Junyoung who watched his back before he disappeared behind the canteen’s door.

===========

Junyoung was ready to start the engine of his car after school when he heard a familiar ringtone from his phone, it was Heechul.

“Yes Hee?” He answered right away.

“Are you home yet?”

“What? School just ended barely 5 minutes ago, I haven’t left the school yet. What’s wrong?”

“Thank God! Can you help me with something?”

“Sure!”

“Siwan is sick, he’s at my place now, I promised him that I would bring him something for dinner, but it’s so busy here, I can barely eat my own meal. Can you buy something for him and dropped it at my place? Because I’m pretty sure I would be too late.”

“Nevermind, I’ll go there right away.”

“Thanks Junyoung! I’m dead worried about him here.”

“Hahahahahaha! It’s okay, just go back to work, I’ll hang up!”

In less than an hour Junyoung was standing in front of Heechul’s apartment with two big plastic bags full of foods and snacks, struggling to push the doorbell. The reason why he brought a lot of food was because he planned to stay there for a while, half of it because he worried about Siwan, and half of it because he wanted to ask Siwan about.........................something.

Not even 30s after he finally succeeded pushing the doorbell, a head peeking from behind the door.

Siwan smiled widely at him, “Junyoung? Why are you here? Come in, it’s cold outside!” He said as he opening the door wider so Junyoung can come into the apartment.

“Just checking your condition. Why? You don’t like it if I visit you?” Junyoung asked jokingly as he took off his shoes at the doorstep.

“No! Of course no, I was just wondering.” Siwan answered after he closed the door, before continued “Heechul didn’t tell me that you would come. I’m good by the way, I feel a lot better now, after a long sleep, and the fever is gone.”

Junyoung looked around the apartment before decided to put the plastic bags on the kitchen counter. “Glad that you’re okay. Heechul is so busy at work, he will be late, so, he asked me to bring you some food. He didn’t want his princess starving.”

Needless to say, Siwan’s face turned into a deep red when Junyoung . “Who did you just call princess?”

Junyoung laughed at his reaction. No wonder Heechul was head over heels about Siwan, he was so adorable.

“Do you want to eat now? I’ll heat these foods for you, these aren’t so warm anymore.” Junyoung asked as he opening the kitchen cabinet to find some utensils.

“Yeah, I’m hungry, I fell asleep and skipped lunch, I’ll help you!” Siwan answered on his way to the kitchen.

“Don’t, just wait, Heechul going to scold me if I let his sick princess do the hard work.”

“I’m not a princess!!”

==========

Siwan’s eyes widened at the sight in front of him. Not only Junyoung brought enough food for the rest of the year, but he was pretty sure those foods are expensive, not something you just buy at small restaurant nearby.

“This is too much.... I think... Unless you eat like elephant.” He said still with his eyes wide.

“I don’t know what food you would like to eat, so I bought various foods for you to choose, let’s start eating! These foods make me hungry!”

They eat together with small talk, trying to know each other. Siwan was trying to know more about his boyfriend’s friend, and Junyoung was trying to know his friend’s boyfriend better.

The conversation continued even after they finished their early dinner, with Siwan sitting on the dining table, enjoying a cup of warm milk tea while Junyoung washing the dishes.

“... and Dongjun said that Kevin can’t speak Korean properly not because he spent too many years in Australia but simply because he’s dumb.” Siwan chuckled at his own story about his best friends.

On the other hand, Junyoung, who now preparing a cup of coffee for himself, his heart skipped a beat hearing Dongjun’s name. He was hesitating for a while before turning to Siwan and sit in front of him.

“Can I ask you something?” He wasn’t really sure about this, but he continues anyway.

Siwan just nodded, with his eyebrows raised, wondering why the situation became slightly serious all of sudden.

“Uh, about Dongjun,” Junyoung paused a little, “I talked to him on the lunch break today, because he was alone, and I was alone too, since Minwoo was attending dance competition and your boyfriend was at work. But I think he didn’t seem to like me that much.”

Siwan pouted at the question, trying to find the best way to answer it.

“Dongjun....” he started, “It’s not that he hates you, it’s just... his life is so sad... I’ll tell you something about him, but can you just pretend to not know? He hates it if people pitying him.”

Junyoung only nodded, he couldn’t think of other response.

“One day, when he was 8, his parents left him. They left almost nothing for him, only the house he live in, and some money on the table. No letter, no explanation, nothing. Since then, he lived alone, he was forced to survive alone at an age as young as 8. Because of that, he was afraid to get close to people, because in his mind, by the end of the day, they would leave him like what his parents did..... In his mind, if even his parents didn’t want him, why would other people?” Siwan fell silent at the thought of his friend.

“I met him on middle school, and it took me months before he finally talks to me, like literally talk, not just short answers to my questions. And fortunately, since then, he started to open up little by little, our conversation became longer, and he can finally laugh again.” He continued while playing with the spoon inside his cup. He smiled a little before started again, “With Kevin it was definitely easier, but it still took him few months before he finally accept him completely, and now, Dongjun really attached to Kevin.”

Junyoung traced the edge of his cup with his fingers, there are a lot of questions he wanted to ask, trying to choose one to ask first. “So, he didn’t particularly hate me, did he?”

Siwan chuckled, “Nah~ But you need to be patient with him if you want to be his friend.”

“But he said he doesn’t like rich people?”

“Ah...” Siwan finally spoke after a moment of thinking, “Recently, he accidentally overheard his neighbor’s conversation. Those people said, the reason why his parents left him was because his parents wanted to start anew. His parents were still so young when they left him. In other words, his parents left him to make a better life, without him as a burden. He has this negative view about rich people, because he thinks, rich people are just heartless people who would sacrifice anything for money.”

“How did he survive though?” Junyoung asked again.

“When he was still a little, he did everything he could so that he can eat and go to school. He worked at the fish market after school, helping people there. He didn’t want to accept money for free, so people would ask him to do things like lifting boxes or cleaning the table at small restaurant, and they paid him. It’s a lot better since he entered high school, because he can work at a better place, like convenient stores, with better payment too.” Siwan explained.

Junyoung was at lost for words, he was trying to digest all of those information at once. He felt angry at Dongjun’s parents, and he felt sad for the boy. No one deserves something like that. “Where does he work now?’

“At a café not far from Heechul’s workplace, it’s a good place, they pay him really well.” Siwan smiled wider, happy for his friend.

Junyoung nodded, he’s happy too that his life was easier now, maybe still not easy, but definitely easier. He bite his lips before asking the last question, “You said he’s attached to Kevin, did he....”

Before he can finish his question, Siwan threw him a knowing look along with a smile.

“Nah~ He’s like a brother to him. Kevin is the most mature one out of us, so, yeah... he’s the most dependable one.”

“Junyoung,” Siwan continued with a more serious tone, “If you want to be friend with him, go ahead, just be patient, and...... I beg you, just don’t hurt him.”

“I wouldn’t.” Junyoung answered without even thinking.
